We enjoyed our stay here. The room was a little on the small side. We felt pretty cramped. But in Hawaii, who stays in their room anyway? The free breakfast in the morning was nice. They give you a little bag to put food in and bring to the beach. Which might be necessary if you get there after 7:30am. The pool area where they serve the breakfast gets filled up quickly. They have a musician and a hula dancer perform for an hour or so every morning. By the 4th day I was sick of all his songs (Christmas songs with Hawaiian flair --- I couldn't get my mind around it being christmas time while I wore shorts and sandals in perfect weather), but he was a very pleasant singer. And of course the hula dancer was graceful and lovely, The Aston is not the hippest of places, seemed to be geared toward group tours and older folks. But the value was reasonable and the service was good so if you're looking for a good value, then this may be your place.

All we wanted was a comfortable place to spend a couple nights on the beach in Waikiki. The location was great and we had a great ocean view. However, the street noise and the extremely loud band at the Tiki bar made it impossible to actually hear the ocean. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, add that to the loud music playing past 11:30 and I couldn't sleep. Then, the shower was the worst I have ever had in a hotel - the water pressure was so hard it hurt my skin. I would not stay here again.

Wonderful location at the end of the beach. Directly across the street from the beach. Nice kitchy retro-Hawaii decor. Good live music in the hotel bar. Major drawback is a terrible elevator system that creates a lot of frustration with waits, crowds and delays. This alone would make me not want to stay here again, when there are so many other hotel options close by.

Breakfast should have been handled better...It was only only available from 6:30 to 8:30, line for fruit was way too long and it always ran at by 8am. I would also suggest a better facility to allow people to eat breakfast rather pool chairs. $25.00 for parking every day was higher than the fee at other hotels.

I debated a number of hotels based on their reviews and booked the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel mostly on location. There were a number of 'blah' reviews but I found none of the issues other people had. The elevator was fine. It is a high tech version where the cabs stop on only certain floors. This is a really great system so that if you are on the 22nd floor you don't have to stop at every floor on the way down or up. The breakfast was a packaged deal. No better or worse than the airline. At least it is 'included' in the price. The staff is outstanding. We had a room right behind the elevator shaft that we would not accept and were moved promptly. The room had one engineering issue that was fixed within half an hour of calling it in. The room was very clean and of a good size. Most of my hotel stays are in New York so this was a palace sized room compared to there. I overheard other people complaining about some things in their room creeking and about the 'confusing' elevator. Did you get more than 400 on your SAT? You can figure out the elevator. This is also the tropics. Things get wet here and start to rust. The one thing that bothered me was the nickel and dime taking of the hotel. For example, it is $3.00 plus tax to use the safe in the room. $2.00 to get something warm at breakfast. $2.00 deposit for a room key. I expect to pay for the internet - a bargin at $10.00 a day and parking, $27/day with in and out. I started by saying this hotel has location and it does. It is an easy out of town to H1. The tiki bar downstairs is great for cocktails and music. I will have no problem staying here again on my next visit.

Admittedly our room with a beach view has one of the best views on Waikiki and we could see past Pearl Harbor to Diamond Head from our balcony. Near the end of the business district this room was actually a reasonable quiet room considering it was looking over the street. If you want real quiet in Hawaii, go to another island. The elevators were high tech but simple to use and created less crowding. Everything was clean, all the staff were polite and the morning breakfasts were convenient and tasted fine every day for the week we stayed there. Trips/excursions were planned quickly and easily at the hotel. I don't know anything I'd change.

My second mistake, after booking this place for a three day business trip, was expecting that the price tag would correlate with the accommodations and service. I was sorely disappointed, and if not for the no-refund policy, I would've moved to another hotel. The staff I encountered was friendly and helpful- but stretched too thin to be adequate. My bathroom wasn't clean upon arrival and a request to have it cleaned was never fulfilled. There was a loud vibrating noise coming out of the bathroom and an engineer assured me that it was just part of the plumbing, and that it's an old system. He suggested I close the bathroom door while trying to sleep. The parking situation is expensive and inconvenient, mostly due to low staffing and limited space. Don't bother with the "breakfast on the beach," it's a joke. The view is stunning, but beach views are plentiful in Waikiki. Stay elsewhere.

Nothing too fancy, but good for the money. Probably best feature is location on Waikiki Beach. One-way road access to hotel is a bit confusing, but once you mess it up once you figure it out. Stadard rooms are not large, but sufficient. Staff was courteous and gave us a free partial ocean view upgrade. Could have been because hotel was not too full. One issue is the bizzare elevator situation. You need to take a small elevator down to the valet service. No direct elevator down there from the rooms. It gets crowded. We didn't like paying $22 per day for valet service either, but that's Waikiki.

I think, though, now that I've seen the neighborhood and surrounding hotels, I'd pay the same price for a nicer hotel another block away. The Aston was clean, people were very nice, free breakfast by the pool was lovely with a talented accoustic guitarist, BUT it was crowded and some elevators weren't working and the few that were did a poor job of accomodating the numbers of people. And you don't want to take the stairs every time if you're on the 21st floor!!! Our room was tight for the 4 of us, but the beds were comfy and the room was clean.

The hotel is beautiful and very well decorated. It almost sells itself--ALMOST! Then you meet the staff and the lack of customer service. One major problem with this hotel is that the the bell staff and valet staff play double duty. This causes MAJOR backups in the garage. On a routine basis I would call from my room 10-15 minutes before going to the valet to get my car only to still have to wait an additional 40-50 minutes for my car to pull up. ALMOST AN HOUR WAIT WAS THE NORM! This is not good if you have appointments to make certain attractions on the island. Also, if you like being called "Bra" instead of "Mr. Such and Such" you will be at home. The front desk is equally as poor with customer service and was very unaccommodating. I was in town for a triathlon and had a $7000 bike that I wanted to store in a secure location. The lady behind the counter informed me that bikes were not allowed on the property and that I had to park it on the street. Calling all bikers! Does this appeal to you and your race needs? I think not. Later after talking with the hotel manager arrangements were made to keep it behind in the office (where it was maladjusted after being tuned for the race!) The maid service...well if they get to your room by 3pm you should feel fortunate. Honestly it is a crying shame, because this property is beautiful and in a perfect location on Waikiki, but the staff kills this place. Don't stay here.

For the price, this is an excellent hotel. The free breakfast, although somewhat of a "cattle call," is very nice to have. This can be worth quite a bit of money, considering prices in Honolulu. Throw in a free cooler, and it's an even better deal. They had some free entertainment at breakfast (hula dancer), which was a really nice touch. The not-so-good. The place is crowded (not surprisingly), so getting around can be bumpy. Mostly it's the small things, but they can be irritating. The elevators are slow, crowded, and you feel like you're waiting for a NY subway train to arrive. The internet didn't work, and the staff offered little help on that. The beach is right across the street. Breakfast is a cattle call. If you are not there at 6:30 AM, they will run out of food. The food is tolerable at best.
