During the 2011 year, I've stayed in multiple hotels. I always stay at hotels above 3 star ratings. To insure that the room, and bed is very clean. As well as everything functioning properly, and on par to a 3star hotel, or higher. I stayed twice at this hotel, and the first time was as bad as the second time. Never giving this hotel a another change! For […] being a newer hotel, built around 2005. This hotel looks really old in the inside, and out. The wrong with the hotel- -Shower head didn't work. Sprayed all over the bathroom. Leaking all over the floor. Never got fixed in the 2 night stay. -Heater wasn't functioning all the time. Only a few times did it start up. Froze one night when the heater wouldn't start. Tried everything. -If you're allergic to mold, then STAY AWAY. Lots of mold for such a new hotel. -Many stains through out the hotel. Dirt, and such on the walls, rugs, and especially the bathroom. -The halls smell of cigarette smoke since they have smoking rooms in the hotel. A huge FAIL on there part. -Crappy service at the front desk. The Good- -The bed sheets seemed to be clean, and comfortable to sleep in. -The convenience on the hotel. Located around all the malls, and highway. I recommend staying somewhere else. This hotel might of been a 3 star hotel, 6 years ago. Read more

I travel very frequently with my infant daughter. I travel for business and by the end of the day I like to be able to relax in a nice quiet clean room. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of this room, especially the bathroom. I felt uncomfortable bathing my daughter in the bathtub because it was clearly dirty. I was also disappointed that the […] room did not have a microwave. The hotel staff invited me to come to the front desk and they would heat my daughter's bottle, but it was on the other side of the hotel. I was unhappy with how far I had to walk across a skybridge and down a long hallway to find our room with several bags and a baby. The room was also poorly insulated and I could hear EVERYTHING that the guests above and next door to me were doing. I travel 75% of the month, and I will not be staying at the Monarch again. Using Hotels.com was fast and easy. The hotel was as described in the listing. The hotels computer was not running properly and over charged a few guests in the holding funds of their stay. The total was correctly charged to my account. I am sure they have fixed the problem. Great shopping and dinning in walking distance.

My only complaint is: At about 4am the person in the room next to me turned on their TV. The walls must be very thin. I could hear everything. Other than that, it was great and very comfortable.

I know they want you to eat in there restaurant in the morning, but I really didn't have time. I'm fine with there not being any complementary food available, but some coffee in the lobby would have been nice.

Room was modern and comfortable, but small. Had a lovely view of the freeway, which delighted my truck-loving toddler, but kept us all awake half the night. HORRIBLE wifi connection, I had to go sit in the hall to use my computer. They do provide a computer room near the lobby, however. Traipsing through the lobby and main entry in our bathing suits […] to go to the pool was a little awkward. Also, there were no clean towels at the pool, either in the early afternoon or evening. The room was modernly decorated. included a fridge, comfortable beds, however, you could tell that at one time smoking was permitted. We were there just to sleep so didn't get to explore the pool or the restaurant. With the numerous choices in the area probably would stay somewhere else in the future.

This Hotel needs up dating. Service as far as the staff was concern was great but everything else was marginal. Docar in the rooms old. No newspapers.Very noisy after hours( we could hear the people walking around above us.

Hotel is close to shopping and freeway. It is generally quiet.. But it is tired and somewhat dingy. From the reviews I was led to believe I would get a lot for my money. I think we got just what we paid for, a mediocre night's stay. Free parking, no breakfast. Hotel staff was also just mediocre.

The Monarch is now my new Go To hotel when I travel to Portland. The staff is friendly and helpful (as it should be - but is often lacking at other hotels), and the rooms are updated and comfortable. Sam's restaurant on site is nice and the food is good, but a little pricy for what you get. very good location to clackamas shopping areas. literally across the street. not too far from the airport, free shuttle a big plus. airlines use this hotel as a place to keep flight crew, so a bit crowded and check in/out is slow. a little run down, but serviceable.

The bed was so comfortable and the handicapped room was the BEST that I have experienced. I was VERY pleased with room service, the Sunday brunch and the bar! And everyone was so kind and helpful. I didn't get to all the wonderful restaurants that surround the grounds nor did I make it to the huge mall just a block away.... so I have to go back!

This was our first stay at this hotel. We were happy with the condition of the place and the staff was very helpful. We both work in hotels in Vegas and really appreciate it when someone goes that little extra bit to make your stay better. Every staff member we came in contact with was great. It was nice to have the lounge to go to after a long day […] also. Several of the staff referred to this long all glass enclosed walk way the "hallway from hell". Because of the lack of enough ventilation in the hall. We were fine with that even. After all, we are from Vegas. And we all know it's hot here. Over all it was all good. Checked in at 6:30 pm and rooms weren't ready, but after about 1/2 hour of back and forth with housekeeping, the front desk finally checked us in. The front desk gal was not all that professional (lots of complaining and negative comments about housekeeping). The rest of the staff were great and gave us good advice about staying away from the bad river […] areas. Location next to Clackamas Town Center was absolutely worth it....lots of shopping and dining options and the area is nice enough to walk if you wanted. Rooms were recently renovated and they were nice....a/c was ice cold and we loved it! Restaurant and laundry in the hotel were very convenient and the outdoor pool was a hit - you can even get bar & food service at the pool - awesome! The only advice would be 'stay away from the hallway of fire'! We visited when it was in the 90's and there is a skybridge that connects to the other side of the hotel....it got 100+ degrees in there which is how the front desk direted us to our rooms. This hotel was exceptional from its friendly staff, clean rooms, and the mattress was comfortable. The front desk clerk provided us information on downtown Portland including how to access the metro light rail, what weekend events were going on downtown, as well as what nightclubs and restaurants we may be interested in. The neighborhood is extremely […] secure and safe and is located right next to a mall with lots of eateries surrounding the hotel. The hotel does have an outdoor pool, but no hotub or sauna...the pool area appeared clean with pool towels available and comfortable patio chairs. The hotel was easily accessed off of the interstate, which was also a huge selling point. I highly recommend this as a good hotel for your stay in the Clackamas/Portland metro area. Read more

I had a terrible stay at this hotel. The hot water did not work, so I could not take a shower. They were extremely vague about the problem and its resolution. Fortunately this only lasted one night as the hot water worked the second morning. Also the air conditioner did not work properly, so the room was too hot, making sleeping difficult. Upon my request […] to fix it, they apparently did so the second day of my stay, but then in the middle of the second night the air conditioner proceeded to make a loud screeching noise which awakened me, and was so loud I had to turn it off, again making the room too warm again. At the end of the second day, upon my return to the hotel for my third night's stay, the keys to my room did not work, so I needed to return to the desk to have this taken care of. Obviously only a minor inconvenience, but it was consistent with my total experience at the hotel. Upon check out nothing was said to me about any of these issues, nor was any kind of apology offered for the hot water problem (which was not confined to my room, but was hotel-wide). It would have been nice to know someone cared, or that they might offer me some kind of credit on the bill to offset the inconvenience(s). It appears they did not care. I will not stay here again. Close to Clackamas Promenade and Clackamas Mall. About 30 minutes from Woodburn Outlet Mall. Very comfortable mattresses and new sheets. Sam's Restaurant in the hotel is expensive but good quality food. Enjoyed the pool but didn't get to use it as much as we wanted to. Lots of restaurants nearby.
