Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur City Center - Kuala Lumpur

This hotel is regularly described as a five-star accomodation, and upon arrival in the truly spectacular high-ceilinged marble lobby (which befits the name "Istana," or "palace") you would be forgiven for assuming it would be. However, the rooms are simply not up to the same standard as the common areas. My room was large, strangely laid-out, and very […] sparsely furnished, with noticeable wear on the carpets, upholstery, and bathroom fixtures. It wasn't bad, but it was clearly showing its age, and it was nothing like as luxurious as I expect from a five-star hotel. Carpets in the halls, as well, were worn and dated. Finally, the cleaning service, while certainly daily, didn't pay the same kind of attention to detail that I expect in a high-end hotel. Of couse, the room rates were also much more affordable than a five-star hotel's would be, so this may explain some of the shortcomings. The staff were extremely gracious, the breakfast buffet was palatable although not all that fancy, and the common areas, once again, were beautiful. But until the rooms get a full remodel this will be nothing more than a 3.5 star hotel with a better-than-average-looking lobby. Read more

Although the hotel is a little old, it is still comfortable and it is located inb a really strategic area. The rooms need a little upgrading (especially the bathroom). The shower knobs are a little complicated and left over from the 90's.

Hotel Istana Easy to get to very close to Raja Chulan monorail station. You can see it from the station. Staff are very good and very helpful with quite large rooms. cons :not very clean, fit and fittings are even worse. for the money go else where

KL was the last location we were covering of our Malaysia trip. Therefore the Hotel we chose had to be centrally located. The Istana's location was brilliant. Walking distance from the Petronas / KL Tower / shopping areas of Bukit Bintang. The room had a wonderful view of the Petronas Tower. Ours was a King Size bed. I had requested for a higher floor, […] which the staff agreed to. The room's condition was excellent and was very spacious. The staff's attitude was very impressive - cordial / friendly, be it at the reception / restaurant / or any department. We had a buffet breakfast as a part of our package. The buffet breakfast is one of the best i've come across so far. The spread was very good. My wife's a vegetarian and she there were enough options for her unlike other places that we visited in Malaysia. All in all a fantastic experience with Istana and i would definitely stay with them on my next visit. Read more

Hotel is located within walking distance to the twin towers and KL tower, close to a huge shopping mall with excellent food court, and is around the corner of a local shopping area. Location is excellent. However, everything was broken when we got into the room - AC, refrigerator, and the closet lights won't turn off. Took them a day to fix everything. […] Not very clean, Internet not included, no safe in the room, no robe and never extra towels in bathroom. Very disappointed as the hotel seem very nice but our room was not close to being okay. Our friends who stayed at 3 other rooms at the same time were all in excellent room. Kuala Lumpur is a very compact and walkable city for tourists, and seemingly in the middle is Hotel Istana. 1/2 block from the Raja Chulan monorail station and 1 block from the Pavilion mega-mall, Istana is also near Petronas Towers and the SkyTower. Also, if you're coming from the airport, take the KLIA Express then the monorail if you want to save […] money. The hotel sufficed. I chose it for the free high speed Internet and the great price. The room was spacious and clean. The shower needed some adjustment but worked well. My travel adapter didn't work and the hotel quickly delivered the right plug to my room. Nice. Great hotel and very conveniently located. Clean and spacious rooms. Very friendly and helpful staffs. Check in and check out was a breeze, very efficient. The only complain was there was noisy renovation going on in the adjacent room in the afternoon when we tried to have an afternoon nap. Eventually, we have to transfer room. This hotel is out of my expectations. Closed to the Alor street, eating is convience. The stop Raja Chulan is just opposite to the Hotel. The Hotels seems a little bite old but it full of Middle East style. Hotel staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast is quite good. We woke up looking on Petronas Towers! Enourmous breakfast buffet - you don't wanna miss it...We went to the whirlpool, sauna and the fitness center - all in good condition... If I go back to Kuala Lumpur, I'm gonna stay at 5-star Hotel Istana again...

If you are looking for luxury, look no further! Istana Hotel is perfect! Conveniently located - only a short walking distance to shopping, restaurants, monorail, etc.The staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the food was spectacular. I can't say enough good things about Istana Hotel.

This hotel is a 2 star hotel at maximum,,There were no hot water the air conditioner don't work . The owner is saving money not so bright owner because i will never come back to this Hotel. But like the rest of this city people here has not developed as fast as the infrastructure..

If not for www.hotels.com efficient booking service I would not have stayed at this hotel. check in and out was a breeze, room was clean and extra bed came very quickly. bathroom good except water from tap for bath-tub was brown and not possible to take bath. Housekeeping was prompt. Great breakfast spread, on one day due to large tour groups breakfast […] was at italian restaurant which was below standard - breakfast juices were served out of punch bowls, communal seating in long table, hot eggs cooking not available, spread was very much reduced. The hotel is ideally situated next to a monorail station and 15 minutes walk from the Petronas Towers or one of the mail shopping areas. We had a minor emergency with a front tooth breaking on our first morning. The hotel was excellent in that it arranged for us to visit a dentist within 15 minutes of being told and the dentist was able to do some […] (fairly major) temporary repairs with 4 hours of the initial consultation. The Hotel was interested enough to ask how we got on when we saw them the next time. The hotel also arranged an Executive taxi (at reasonable price) to take us to the airport. We required Internet access and this was made available by cable within the room free of charge. Overall we would recommend this hotel and would definitely book there again if coming to Kuala Lumpur. Our stay at The Istana hotel was great. The staff were exellent, couldn't do enough for you and were so friendly. We took the upgrade option of the Club Lounge faciliies which included Continental breakfast,cocktails, snacks and internet... well worth it. Would recomend it to anyone...

the location is in centre of the city ,it is easy to find your bus ,metro or taxi;walking is enough to go to KLCC and pavillion!if you want to close to get massage and many restaurauts;obsolutely ISTANA hotel is a good choose!

we picked up the istana hotel at the last minute since we had problems with the previously booked hotel. It was a luck and a right decision in the end to pick this hotel. Spacious room, nice staff, free broadband internet in the room. Only one negaive thing coming into my mind was there was no clear statement about if the breakfast included or not. […]  We found out it was room only until we checked-in. We stayed in a budget hotel for the first 2 nights, horrible! We had to move to a more comfortable, luxurious hotel for the remaining 2 nights and we got that with the Istana. Check in was smooth, staff were all very friendly, from receptionist, porters to restaurant staff. Our twin room was very spacious, beds comfortable. Bathroom huge and clean. […] Love that the shower was stand alone from the bath and the toilet was separated with a sliding door. There were also two basins. Great for families. Location close to city center, there is a monorail station just in front, very convient however you can walk to the center where the big shopping centre Pavilion is, just 10mins away, large food court at Level 1. This was only a 2 night stay but we utilised some of the hotel facilities. The hotel location was outstanding, 15 minutes walk to the Petronas Towers, 5 minutes to the nightlife and if shopping is your thing then 2 minutes to the shops. The room we had was a club room which came with a lounge and second loo. Way beyond our requirements. The actual room […] was a great size although a CRT TV was a bit old-fashioned. The bathroom had a bath and an excellent shower and the cleanliness of the whole facility was great. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the concierge had a good knowledge of what was where. Hotel is close to shops both Pavillion and Petronas towers shopping centre are within walking distance. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

W e enjoyed our stay at the Istana. It was clean and room was spacious although bathroom was a little dated. There was a great outdoor pool. The hotel was close to the monorail and good shopping.

Very rude reception staff not friendly we were supposed to have free breakfast at reception they said breakfast is not included if we have it we have to pay for it or it will be deducted from our credit card very old tv in the room not clear pictures very very bad never ever again

Probably the cheapest 5 star hotels around KL. But if you're expecting 5 star treatment, you'll be quite disappointed. We had to wait almost an hour to have someone come fix our safe box, and some channels on the TV were fuzzy (not LCD). Overall for the price we paid, it was ok.

Chose this hotel for overall value after assessing reports on various hotels in KL. Situated virtually half way between KLCC twin towers and Bukit Bingtang shopping & nightlife and only a short walk to either as well as being directly opposite the monorail station makes it an ideal base to explore KL. We spent 5 nights at this hotel. Staff are super polite and pleasant. Room a good size. Supplies of coffee and tea minimal - have to request every day. TV old fashioned with minimal channels; Vision Four channels are a joke with constant repeats. Internet outrageously expensive - free WiFi in the lobby is a must in today's modern technology. We stayed here for 4 nights. It was a very comfortable hotel. The staff were very pleasant & friendly. It was in a great location close to main attractions & shopping centres. The lobby & restaurants were fantastic. The food was varied & delicious. The only problem we had was when we checked in, we went up to our room only to be informed by "the man […] in the room" that it was not ready for entry as it had problems with the phone lines. We then had to go back downstairs and get another room allocated. Not a major issue, but not something that you would expect from a 5* hotel. The hotel is currently renovating the rooms floor by floor. We had a room that needed an update but was by no means shabby. All up a very good spot to stay. Read more

We spent our first two nights i Malaysia here and we enjoyed every second, even though it gets some time to get used to the Aircon :) we stayed in one of the clubsuites and had exellent service. Our kids loved the breakfast buffé and the pool.

The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Our fridge was not cold enough so within 10 mins they bought up a new fridge and as we didn't want mini bar they would deliver ice with 5 mins of me asking. Hotel Istana is the most value-for-money hotel in KL. Its location is excellent (just 2 blocks away from Pavilion, and a 5-min stroll to Bukit Bintang; the monorail station is just opposite the hotel). Room is relatively large and it comes with a decent bathtub. There's a lounge and restaurants within the hotel if you are too lazy to go out. A pity the beds were too hard, my whole body was slowly hurting all over after a few days. Maybe it is an asian preference, but otherwise a very nice hotel. Good buffet breakfast and clean.

We stayed at the Istana with our 11 month old for 5 nights. We booked a club room as we got a good deal. The service was fantastic. The room was clean, although we got a twin room (when we requested a king - which was rectified and changed the next day). The cot was wooden and very sturdy, even for our very active child. Tea and coffee were complimentary […] in the club lounge most times of the day (unless it was a meal time of course). They had a fantastic cocktail snacks before dinner. The staff were very helpful and very obliging. Can say that we really enjoyed our stay. It is very close to the golden triangle (within walking distance) and the monorail is almost across the road (little walk across the road). Lots of shops and malls within walking distance. Petronas towers and KL towers close by. Walking distance to KL towers and free minibus at various times from hotel to Petronas towers (although you can walk). I would highly recommend this hotel.
