Upon first arrival when we opened the doors to our room there was a puddle of water dripping from the air conditioner so someone had to come clean it.....the mirrors in the room were always fogged up ......maybe from the combination of heat and air conditioner being on? We went here with our 3 year old daughter. We are a bilingual family and wanted her to hear more Spanish - El Cid was perfect! There were lots of locals visiting, the food was fine (not great, but lots of good authentic Mexican fare), and the facilities were clean and neat. We had a fantastic week and our daughter made a lot of new friends.

We enjoyed our stay at the El Cid Castilla Beach hotel very much. The check-in experience was very professional and efficient. The room was spotless and spacious. The hotel staff could not have been nicer. We especially enjoyed the pool and the afternoon games hosted by the staff. It really is a first class operation.

This hotel was beyond disgusting. Too expensive, dated, the food was not edible, they charge you for everything including bottle water in the room, the fitness center (which by the way is from 1970) and the coffee packets for the coffee maker in the room. Would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a good time at the hotel. Julieta at The Club Elite customer service team is great and really helpful, like getting us on the correct bus to the Cathedral area. We got ungraded to the ocean view room and we really enjoyed it. First of all, hotel/resort is nice, pool/landscaping very nice. Ocean beach in front is very small, but nice as well. The resort includes various restaurants (4 I think), which are nice. There are always activities (volleyball, games, dancing) going on in the resort that kids seemed to really enjoy. Overall, a nice resort, not the nicest, but offering […] an area for a great vacation. I think this place would be great for a bigger group of people to vacation. For a family or multiple families/friends it would be perfect. The reason for not being satisfied is the service. I went with my girlfriend, just two of us. We paid the premium price for the all-inclusive package. This includes food and drinks at various restaurants around the resort. It is also supposed to include drinks at ALL the bars and restaurants. When I would go to the ONLY swim-up bar in the pool, they told me they would not serve me because I was an all-inclusive customer, and had to use the all-inclusive only bar. I walked over to that bar, and found the drink selection very limited, and the only beer available was served WARM. While waiting there, MULTIPLE customers were allowed by the waitstaff to cut in front of me in line because they were NOT ALL INCLUSIVE. So basically, the staff would let them go first because they would be paying, and I have already paid in advance. This type of attitude continued at other bars around the resort. Great place. The pools were great, the food good, and everything was very clean. We had an OV room with all inclusive and for the price it was a very good deal. The entire staff was very nice. The only thing we did not like was the bed and sheets; time for new sheets and mattress.

the hotel room was OLD and the TV was at least 10 years old and the sound was broke then they changed the TV out and told us this is how all the TV sounds in Mexico.. that is 100 percent not true as the TV's in the other areas of the hotel did not look or sound the same.... the room was really out dated, they NEVER told the vendors to no bother us so […] ALL day long they would go under the ropes and be in our face... and we had no hot water for one of our days...I would never stay there again and I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. We were greeted by the front desk with an explanation the Expedia customers are registered in their Club Elite, their concierge level services. I was greeted by Marisela who quickly and professionally explained the hotel, services, our use of the Club Elite and their availability to resolve any issues, answer any questions and do what ever it takes […] to make for an excellent stay in the hotel. Our room had a beautiful view over the pool on the right facing the water. Sunsets at night from the balcony were wonderful. Our room was on the second floor, at times there was noise from the atrium/room entrance. This did not bother us but may others. And we did have the opportunity to change rooms, but chose not to. I would recommend a room higher up or in one of the building that is perpendicular to the beach, not the main building. The pools are beautiful, lounges plentiful, entertainment daily, happy hours and the beach is extensive for morning or evening walks. There are a number of restaurants to chose from too. We didn't take the all inclusive offer, but it is there for those who want it. This is a time share offering, but if you are not interested in attending a meeting, NO is accepted and you can enjoy your vacation. There are local buses right outside the hotel to take you to grocery stores, Walmart, or the public marina. There is an El Cid Marina hotel which is a private shuttle. Read more

We went with 2 other couples.We went Feb. 05 to Feb.12 The checkin went smooth and quick.We were asked by the timeshare people to go for the sales pitch we told them no and we didnt get asked again. The food was good in most of the resturants. The buffets were good the food was the same or close to the same every day but it is like that at every buffet […] that you go to. The beach and pool was good. The waiters and bartender were very helpful and yes we did tip them. Room maid did a great job every day. We had a problem with our room on the last night and they sent matintainman up to take care of it.Then they sent up head of housekeeping to check on the room. When they then moved to another room. It took about an hour for whole process which we thought was good. The only problems we had was that we had special night planed so that was shot, and the moved us to to 2 full beds instead of the king bed. We had a great time. This was our 2nd time at El Cid 1st time was about 3 years ago and we had agreat time then too. I was having medical problem when we went the 1st time and the staff made sure i was taken care of the whole time. We would recommend El Cid to our freinds and family. Read more

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, most with fluent English. Gorgeous rooms (mine was gigantic). Amazing swimming pool. Located right on the beach. Family friendly. Cons: Because I carry a lot of expensive equipment for work (the in-room safe is not big enough for a laptop) and am sometimes sleeping at odd hours, I am particular about staff entering […] my room while I have the "Do not disturb" sign up. This is exactly what happened on my first night, when a staff member knocked on my door while I was sleeping, and then entered when I did not answer. He was offering complimentary chocolates which, although nice, was not an emergency by any means. After I complained about this to the front desk, it did not happen again. Hotel guests are required to wear a wrist band while on the hotel premises, else they will be stopped and questioned. It is impossible to remove without breaking. I ripped mine off the first night and carried it around to show staff when asked for it and didn't have much trouble doing that. If you have a visitor at your hotel, they will be required to register. I am not sure whether or not a guest fee is charged since I didn't have one. I understand the desire to keep outsiders from entering, but I found it extremely annoying. For anyone interested in this hotel for its Wi-Fi connection, it was very hit or miss and did not work half the time. Summary: Very nice hotel for a decent price, but due to the cons mentioned above I will avoid using this hotel in the future. Read more

Good hotel. Nice, clean, good location. The check in was easy and because we booked through Expedia they upgraded us to an Ocean View room. Because we got upgraded we had access to complimentary beverages in the "Blue Room". Likes: The pool was great - somehow my Daughter hurt her foot going down the slide. They helped us find crutches for her and even sent up some chocolate covered strawberries for my daughter. Pool side service was plentiful. Lot's of lounge chairs. They need to invest in chairs a little more comfortable though. I do hate the wrist bands they make you wear. The wife and daughter liked the spa. Overall a very reasonable cost for the hotel. They were working hard for a good review from us and they earned it. Dislikes: The water in the shower had temperature fluctuation. Went from hot to cold often and not tied to anything in our room. The toilet water did NOT look filtered. Never really looked clean. I just told my family don't drink the toilet water. Want to go somewhere? Just walk outside and catch the open air taxis or the "limo" (pickup truck with bench seats in the back, that is hilarious and fun). Overall I would do Mazatlan and El Cid again. JUST PUT IN YOUR MIND SET YOU ARE GOING TO GET ASKED ABOUT TIME SHARES. JUST SAY NO! THEY WILL EVEN OFFER YOU CASH! IF YOU HAVE THE TIME AND WANTED TO MAKE SOME CASH I GUESS THAT WOULD BE OK. We only stayed at the El Cid for the one night when we arrived in Mazatlan but the hotel was great. Pool area was huge and our little one loved the pool. Breakfast buffet was alittle pricey (160MX peso) before 10am (180MX Peso) after 10am. If i went again probably book the all inclusive to save money we spent on food and drinks.

Great food, great service, beautiful beach, overall a great stay. We went there on our honeymoon and had a great stay. The hotel has a few new managers with some strange new policies-not serving or being able to take food to the beach& not being able to wear a cotton tshirt when sitting at the swim up bar. We visited Mazatlan in June 2012. We did not experience any problems or trouble spots and felt safe in the old town and in the hotel zone. El Cid Castilla staff were excellent. They are lovely people and work hard to ensure guests enjoy their stay. We booked an ocean view King room (all inclusive)- this room is great. Very large, very clean, great views […] from the balcony, comfortable beds, English TV (if you want to watch TV). Tour desk available. Don't fall for the time share at the airport. You pay at a tiny booth outside the airport for a taxi to El Cid, $25 US one way. Would highly recommend El Cid Castilla or El Cid Moro (next door). Didn't see rooms at the Moro but pool and restaurants nice. You can eat at 3 El Cid's with the meal package. Food not fantastic (breakfast was great) but overall not bad. Overall my girlfriend had a good time. Sometimes we found the service to be lacking - specially some waiters if you didnt tip them right away, they would not come back to serve you another drink for 45 minutes in the pool. And some of them fell in the category of presumptuous and some were really nice and did thrive to give you a good service. We found that food it was a hit and miss,they served really delicious dishes and sometimes they were average but overall good. All mexican dishes were excellent :). Also all-inclusive: three reservations to 4 specialty restaurants (Argentinian, Italian, Mexican and Japanese) For relaxation purposes it served well - the beach and weather were amazing - although you did have people trying to sell you stuff very frequently within an hour time, but if you are the kind of person who doesnt mind ignoring them you still can manage to have a good time. The town was safe to walk outside the hotel. The hotel can arrange transportation to the most popular clubs to provide you with peace of mind. The pools are very nice and it is in the heart of the Golden Zone so there is lots to see and do.
