Our stay was great until our last day 4/30/12 Monday morning there was no hot water. I told the front desk and was not offered any options. A free notes stay or offer to shower in another room would have been appreciated. There were many open rooms that nite so it could have easily been offered.

Overall we had a great stay here and would use Candlewood Suites again. The only complaint about the room is that I could not find an exhaust fan in the bathroom and it was needed. I had to open the bathroom door to let out the steam from the shower.

"Excellent for Wells Fargo entertainment."
Overall, it was excellent. We would prefer to have a room with a refrigerator, though.
"Great location for seeing concerts"
I thought the room was very clean and beds comfortable. It is an older hotel but I was satisfied. I was there for a concert at the Wells Fargo Arena and the location is very close and within walking distance. The staff was very friendly as well.

Very limited room service and no restaurants that are close. The room was fine. The folks were friendly. Hotel was convenient. They need to get an up to date list of restaurants that will deliver. 4 hours of room service in the evening is terrible
"Holiday Inn downtown Des Moines"
Upon arrival, they wouldn't let us switch cards to pay for the hotel from the one that I thought I had just held the room with... It was not made clear at time of booking that my payment was already made at time of booking online. It had no hot tub, which is a downer in my opinion, and the worst part was that they CHARGED us for a LOCAL call!! I have […] never heard of that, how ridiculous! We always order pizza during our hotel stays, and have NEVER had to pay for the local call doing so. I will not stay there again. Read more
"Super service ... Location so-so...."
I stayed at the hotel this past week for a conference. Staff was top-notch and the hotel was what you would expect for this level of accommodation. Clean rooms, decent facilities, etc... Only real issue is the fact that there is NOTHING around this place. Conference hall was within walking distance, but that helps very little as there is NOTHING around […] the conference center. No restaurants, no bars, no convenience stores, no shopping.... just something to consider if you are without a car rental. Although, another nod to the staff, they are VERY accommodating with respect to the use of their shuttle to get folks where they need to go. Read more
"Easy Trip into the Heart of Downtown"
This hotel is off the beaten path if you are doing things downtown, but the complimentary shuttle was great to drop us off right on Court Avenue. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and my friends and I really enjoyed our stay.
"Great price and location"
The hotel may not be the newest most modern but it is very conveniently located and for the price is worth it! The staff was some of the most friendly staff I've EVER had and they have a free shuttle that took us many places around near downtown so even though they aren't directly down town it was still very convenient to get any where we wanted to […] in the area. I would recommend this hotel to anyway wanting to stay near the downtown area and is looking for both comfort and quality at a reasonable price. Read more

"Hotel seems run down"
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Des Moines while attending the State Fair with my family. Our room was clean and the staff friendly, but my overall impression of the Hotel is that it is run-down. The decor was dated and looked stale. The bathroom drains didn't work properly, the pillows weren't comfortable, and there was no fan cover […] the sound of the interstate outside the window. Overall, I did not enjoy my stay. It wasn't anything particular, but the sum of several little things. When on vacation, I want to relax and feel comfortable. I didn't at this hotel. Read more
"Holiday Inn in Des Moines- Quick and easy access"
Overall it was really nice and clean. The only meal we ate there was breakfast and we had room service and it was hot and there were large portions ~ great food for the prices!! The only concern I had was that we had a room on the side of the interstate and it is near a hospital and on that Friday night the ambulance went out or came in at least 3 times, […] which did wake me, but the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in at a hotel! We would definitely stay again, but would maybe request a room on the side away from the interstate. Read more
"Holiday Inn - Downtown Des Moines"
Hotel location is very convenient. Close to interstate with easy access on and off. Besides being a little outdated in carpeting, everything was clean and staff was very friendly. Stay was comfortable.
"Very Convenient"
The hotel is right off of the interstate and just north of downtown. It seems like they recently did a mild renovation. The bed and furniture were newer, but the bathrooms weren't new for example. They gave two sets of pillows: firm and soft and even some little mints... a pleasant surprise.

"Good Location Down Town"
This hotel is you pay for what you get. The beds were very hard and need to buy new pillows. Other than that, hotel staff were friendly. My room was very clean.
"Great Location"
The location of this hotel was great, very close to the Civic Center, and downtown Des Moines attractions. The room was nice with one exception, our drain in the shower was broken. My husband was able to make a quick fix to drain it but the staff at the main desk couldn't have cared less. We did not even receive a "sorry for your inconvenience", let […] alone a "hope you enjoyed your stay". Basically don't let the door hit you on your way out. Too many nice hotels for the same price within blocks of this one, to stay again and be treated rudely. Read more

We've stayed at this hotel 3 times now while visiting our children who live in Des Moines. It is extremely convenient to downtown and the staff at the hotel, especially the restaurant, are very nice. The parking lot needs repaved, but if you stay downtown, you have to pay for parking, so I'll deal with that. The room is comfortable and the bed and sheets […] are very nice. "Needs an update"
The hotel room was very comfortable and upgraded, but the rest of the hotel looked tired. Employees were all very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast is ok - could be better. Waitresses were very nice. The parking lot needs repaved.
"Great room, great rate"
We were looking for a hotel downtown Des Moines and there weren't a lot of choices. This one was rated the highest and the rate was the best, so it was an easy choice. The front desk staff was very friendly as well as the cleaning staff. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant, which is a plus.
