"Great hotel"
Reviewed by Jessica of Houston on Dec 1, 2009
I stay at this hotel every time I go to Austin alone. It's very convenient, as it's only 5 blocks (walking distance!) from 6th Street. It has free internet, and you don't need to enter any passwords or anything. The place is clean, the hotel staff is helpful, and there is complimentary breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to spend their trip in and around downtown Austin.

Our room was clean, very spacious and brightly appointed for the money. Front desk service was prompt, cordial and cooperative. Breakfast room was large, and food was ample and of good variety. We were caught by surprise that parking is valet only, $13 per day, for what is usually a motel operation. That I don't think was advertised when we booked the room and was an annoyance.

There was no waste basket in the room. 2) Even I booked a non-smoking room, I could still smell it. 3) The hotel was near the street, it was very noisy. 4) The receptionists were not friendly.

There were cookie crumbs on the end tables, the bathtub had hair in it and the shower curtain was tainted with mildew, the towels were Not clean. I refused to take a shower and almost gagged trying to brush my teeth. Margot T.

Housekeeping was awesome - very nice lady - and being able to communicate with them in English was very nice! Its Valet parking only - and even though the guys were great, it was money that I would have rather not spent. The rooms were clean. My only complaint being that the tub was clogged. ew. The noise outside was actually really bad....but with the A/C on, it wasnt as noticeable and things did slow down/become quiet at night. Well, except for Saturday. Lots of kids coming back after the bars closed at 2am.......that was obnoxious.

The valet parking was kind of a pain as the attendent moved like he was Zippy the Wonder Slug. And the lobby of the hotel smelled like someone had just finished using the restroom when we walked in. The great thing about the hotel is the location. It is close to 6th Street and convenient.

I can leave my car there, walk to the nearest CVS, to the capital, or 6th street and not have to worry about the hassle or expenses of parking. The hotel is great! Clean and had a refridgerator and microwave. Elevators on ground and in lobby. They make sure even the night owls like myself are quiet and polite and they take that seriously. I definately plan on staying here again everytime I'm in ATX.

My hotel experience was tainted by 3 main things: 1) the room was poorly insulated and extremely humid and damp. when we unpacked our clothes at home in Houston, they were still damp. 2) there was mandatory valet parking at the price of $12.99. 3) someone attempted to break into my car by unsuccessfully prying open my driver side door. i uncovered this when my window starting leaking water on the drive home in the rain. i went to the dealership, they immediately saw evidence of what happened. i called la quinta and found out they have security for their parking garage on Friday and Saturday nights, but not Sunday (we stayed on a Sunday night only). fyi - i don't consider my 2006 acura TSX a car that most people would want to steal. anyway, everything else was fine. but i won't stay there again b/c of the lack of security and damp room.
