"most gorgeous setting beautiful landscape"
Once we had a quiet room as requested on our reservation--room #3, it was great! This property provides lots of family activities, golf, hiking, pool, sauna etc. I would NOT recommend the bike trails as they are steep gravel and require exceptional bike handling skills. Too bad there are no flatter options along the golf courses.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The drive up to the Omni was breathtaking. This hotel is very grand and historical. The setting is wonderful nestled in the Virginia Mountains. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind and generous, he asked what brought us to the Omni and we let him know we were on our honeymoon. He upgraded us to a Premium room at no charge and then later that […] evening sent us a bottle of champagne and some chocolates to say congratulations and help us celebrate. The room was great, very large and comfy bed. Good sized bathroom. My only small complaint would be that the comfortor and the sofa each had a small stain on them from previous guests. Nothing that ruined our stay but just small details that can make a difference. Would definitely recommend this place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Homestead is doing everything right!"
My wife and I are repeat customers to The Homestead. Now that Omni is managing the resort they are doing everything right. The facilities are immaculate. The plethora of indoor and outdoor activities are first rate. The amenities from the amazing afternoon tea with English sandwiches to a live piano player in the grand lobby are so nice. The service […] from check-in to the hand shake from the head valet thanking me for coming are the best. This is an example of how a high end resort ought to be run! We will be back. "Great stay though food disappointed"
Overall lovely stay at this beautiful, historic site. The newer family-friendly attractions (water park, mini-golf) are a nice addition to the classic Homestead offerings. My only complaint was the price and quality of food - very expensive for so-so food. Would definitely go back but would make different meal choices next time!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

ALTHOUGH FACILITY HAS EXISTED FOR QUITE SOMETIME, THE FACILITY LOOKED AND FELT VERY TIRED AND LACKED THE TYPE OF OBVIOUS MAINTENANCE IT SORELY NEEDED. THE QUALITY OF FOOD IN THE MAIN DINING ROOM WAS SO VERY DISAPPOINTING - COLD AND UNAPPETISING. THE THREE HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR STAY WAS THE SPA, THE POOL AND THE JEFFERSON RESTURANT. "The Epitome of Class"
The Omni Homestead is amazing. It is truly as close as you can get to stepping back in time. Tea is served in the grand lobby every afternoon, and the Restaurants are extraordinary. The only complaint I have with this hotel, and I mean the only complaint is the people who stay here. They spend hundreds of dollars to stay here and dress in sweatpants […] or jeans, and look like disgusting tourists. Have a little class America! If you can afford to stay here, you can at least afford to look decent. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Coolest hotel/resort ever!!!! I want to retire here. I'm only 39. Step back in time in this little hideaway. A hotel that has EVERYTHING you will never be bored or hungry. I am still in awe. 5 star resort so bring your best clothes. It's better to buy the package deals. All the fun stuff to do is $$$. Each activity will cost you $30 - $50 each. Hot […] Springs was $17 a day, good deal and do it, free with spa treatment. Like someone else said, add this to your bucket list. I didn't know about this place I wished I could've stayed more than one night. See the waterfall on the way too. Restaurants reasonably priced for what you get. Rooms more 4 stars vs. 5 stars, but clean. Remember this is a classic hotel not a brand new one think going back in time. I had a suite very nice, but not fancy. Golf, croquet, horseback, fishing, hiking, hay rides, spa, pools high class, mini water slide, shooting clay and skeets, skiing, and on and on and on. Movies too and free. So many rooms in this building it took me an hour just to explore it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice but food not so great. Service hit or miss."
The Homestead's property was really nice but if you leave the resort property there was nothing else to do... at all. You are literally in the middle of NOWHERE! The only places that you can get drinks and food is on the Homestead property (unless you want to drive about an hour into town). I had breakfast and dinner at the main dining room. Breakfast […] in the main dining room was overly set price per person buffet and the service was decent. I wouldn't do it again though. I think lunch at the Casino restaurant was the only place I actually enjoyed. I had the mushroom pizza there and it was really good. Dinner in the main dining room was mediocre (food and service). I asked for wine recommendation for a wine bottle and our server gave us the most confused look ever and wasn't able to make any real recommendations. After we ordered our meal she didn't even bring out our salads that came with our meal. When I asked her about it she told me even though the salad comes with the meals we had to ask for it- I don't think that makes sense at all. She didn't refill our water nor did she refill our wine glasses. Room service: We ordered room service for breakfast. I wasn't a fan of the buffet breakfast in the main dining room so I figured, let's try room service. OMG it was horrible! Everything was over cooked, I think it has been sitting in the metal covers for way too long under the heat lamp before they brought it to us in the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place to relax"
My daughter and I stayed at the resort for 3 days. The hotel and staff were great. The room was very nice and we were able to relax in one of the many ballrooms rooms they have throughout the hotel. The only concerns we had were the tennis courts weren't open and it was late April (not sure why) and booking activities in advance was a must! It was our […] first trip to the resort and we did not know what to expect or what we wanted to do however once we arrived everything including getting a message at the spa was full. We had a great time and got the rest we were looking for but just know to book things in advance if you want to secure a spot. This would include dining. We had to dine when the restaurants had an opening not when we wanted to go. The spa day was very enjoyable! I would recommend this resort to anyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

My husband and I made a quick 24 hour trip to The Homestead and it was wonderful. We were able to explore a little bit of everything and had a wonderful time. "A great birthday weekend!"
We had a wonderful weekend. The hotel staff were amazing. They learned that it was our daughters birthday weekend and they went out of their way to make her feel special. Our room was huge and the beds were very comfortable. The only downside of our room was the view. Our window opened up to the roof of the hotel so all we saw was white cement, but […] for the very little time we spent in our room it really didn't matter. The outdoor pool was great. "Nice and relaxing stay"
We liked our stay. There are a lot of things to do at the hotel and the surrounding areas. The room was clean and well maintained except the drainage in the bath tub. One of the things I hate the most is taking a shower in standing water! I called the front desk and they told me they will send someone to fix it. They never did. I also mentioned it at […] the checkout but I don't think it was taken seriously. This was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This was a Mother/daughter celebration of Mom's 75th birthday. The decor is exquisite. The staff is most helpful. The food sumptuous. The activities great (skiing in Southern Va. in late Feb). The spa was the best $25 I have ever spent. "Not a 5 Star Hotel"
Horse back ride was good. When we realized that the carriage rides were no longer on the roads, but on the same trail, we cancelled that activity. Elevator buttons do not indicate lobby level, brass worn and damaged. Bath sink dripped, long dark hair in tub and only lukewarn water on Friday morning. No bath exhaust fan. Room service brought breakfast […] - salt solidified in shaker, coffee cold, forgot fruit. Room service called to see if service was OK and we told them about fruit. Server outside door when they called and took cart. They sent him back with fruit, but no silverware or linen. Made third trip for that. Dinner at Jefferson's was tasty, but soups were cold. Dinner at Main Dining Room was tasty, but plate was dirty and waiter forgot to ask for wine order. We stopped him and told him what we wanted. He came around again in a few minutes to verify what we had told him. Long wait between soup and food. We wanted wine with dinner, but when dinner was served and we had finished half of our meal before the wine was served. He brought the wrong wine...not even close. Long wait between entree and dessert menu. Breakfast buffet- young waiter did not know the difference in the 2 levels of buffets, had to ask another waiter. Large butter bowl empty. On check out, bellman called for car. After waiting for 30 minutes, we asked the main desk about it and the valet called over to the lot and was told no one had called for our car. "Great family trip!"
Fabulous place! Great pools and activities for adults and kids. Loved the Jefferson to eat. Dinning Room was okay, but Sam Sneads was way overpriced for the food. We will not eat there again. Make sure to make dinner reservations a few weeks in advance. The area is beautiful and we will return again. For Labor Day they had awesome fireworks!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Itself and Grounds are lovely ..."
... but everything else outside of the spa is acceptable at best. The service and food are not outstanding. Many of the activities are overpriced for what they are but interestingly booked and unavailable. I had hoped at this price point that the service, food and amenities would be better. The pools and the spa are excellent. Either pack food for the […] kids or drive out a few miles to find better dining options. I have had better rooms at a Holiday Inn Express at one third the cost. I appreciate that the place is old and maintenance is costly, but the rooms should be better. I would go again for a night with just my spouse, but I would not suggest vacationing there for several days with the family. I travel frequently for business and feel I have received better service at any of the major brand second-tier lodgings that I did here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"good weekend excursion"
-Good weather (mid June) -Good mornings at the pools (hardly anybody wakes up early enough for pool activities) -Good food (variety, on-the-go stuff) -Variety of activities - ran out of hot water .... - activities are far away...the hotel provides shuttles --OK with us since many of them required lots of $.Genuine Expedia guest review
The activities are amazing, we did shooting and the Jeep excursion, you will not be disappointed. We will go back, again, and again, and again. The only negative is there isn't much nightlife and to get to non-hotel restaurants and bars, is a drive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Customer service and attention could use a little improvement. Didn't like the resort fee charge either considering that you have to pay for almost every activity separately anyway. But it is a very beautiful location and lots of history.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Relaxing family weekend"
Overall, the entire family had fun at the Homestead Resort. People were very friendly and the facilities were very good. We liked the fact that we were able to ski, ice skate, swim in the hot springs, have a wonderful afternoon tea, roast marshmallows, shop, watch a movie all in one day. The one issue seems to be the miscommunication between the concierges […] and the restaurants. We were told twice that there were no available tables until 8:30 p.m. to find out 10 empty tables at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Also, one of the concierges told us that we had to be divided into two tables (we were a party of 8) because there was nothing available for a big group. We agreed to the arrangement since there were not other possibilities for dinning on that evening. When we arrived to the restaurant, the maître d' told us that he had a table for all of us and that he didn't understand why we were given two tables of 4. The restaurant had about 15 tables available the whole time we spent dinning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Jefferson Pools in need of immediate restoration!"
Large historic grande dame hotel, which requires a tremendous amount of constant upkeep. Gets it in some areas, but not in all areas. Grounds are gorgeous, scenery spectacular. Plenty of available activities. The biggest problem is that for years now, they have promised to renovate their most valuable asset, in my opinion, the Jefferson Pool structures, […] but have not done so to date. These are the best springs in the area, and the only ones, to my knowledge, without added chlorine in them. The wooden structures covering the springs have peeling paint on walls, and are terribly neglected overall, and parts of the structure are primitive, dirty and slimy. It's surprising that they have not been shut down by state or Federal health authorities. The Homestead just spent a fortune on a new water park/ice rink complex on the grounds of the resort. There are quite a few resort guests, who would have preferred to have them fix the Jefferson Pools first and foremost, as these are historic healing springs with medicinal properties. "good older historic property"
This hotel is an older very historic property, it is also very pricey. We don’t mind price for value however, it doesn’t seem right when hotels do not allow you to check in until 4:00 and then close the main activities by 5:00 or 6:00 and then not reopen them until 9:00 or 10:00 the next day. With checkout by 12:00, this almost forces you to stay 2 […] nights to enjoy the facilities. This hotels main feature is the hot springs, one off site that a shuttle runs to, one huge outdoor pool and one indoor pool. The main bath area, the off- site Jefferson pools close at 6:00 and the last shuttle runs around 4:30. The outdoor pool area closes by 6:00 however the indoor pool area does stay opened till 9:00 or 10:00, but the water is not very hot. For example, the Pagosa Springs in Colorado has 22 outdoor hot spring pools and they are opened until 10:00 at night and then reopen for early morning visits at either 7:00 or 8:00. They run around the same price as this hotel, but the value for us was so much more. We read mixed reviews about the food and would not recommend eating at the Sam Snead restaurant. The locals were talking about the chef changes they have gone through and they may need to change again. Our food was not good, service was fair and again it was pricey. The grounds were beautiful and it is worth a visit if you are in the area, but would not recommend staying unless you have the funds for several nights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent service, excellent setting"
Our stay was wonderful. The service is nothing short of spectacular, and I would recommend the Homestead to anyone looking for either an activity filled stay or some simple R & R. My only real complaint would be that the construction is not yet complete on the new pool and water park. However, once completed, it will be a fantastic destination on par […] with any top resort. Your staff needs more training in the Spa reception area: they did not know about certain treatments, etc. Also the Operator when I called to ask if there was someplace IN the hotel where I could get a soup, salad or sandwich without going outside the hotel, they said there wasn't anything. In fact, the coffee shop had all that right there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"An Amazing Resort - Just Needs Some TLC"
Overall this place is fantastic. Yes it is in the middle of nowhere but if you want to get away from it all in a luxurious setting then this is the place for you. The staff could not have been more friendly and the number of things to do is plentiful. Do be prepared for extremely high prices for the spa and other activities. However, you will not be […] disappointed. For example, m wife and I went skeet shooting for the first time and the instructor David could not have been nicer to us. My only criticism is that the resort should consider making some small investments to conserve energy. For example, most of the windows were very drafty and in many cases the doors to the outside had large caps underneath them, letting a lot of heat out. If they simply applied some weather stripping to the doors, for example, they could cut down on energy costs and not ruin the historic look. They might also consider using more energy efficient lighting where and when appropriate. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
