Beautiful old hotel in the center of Porto. Wonderful breakfast and accommodations, except for a very erratic shower. A fantastic restaurant, "Book," is right next door. If you manage to find the hotel (directions in Porto are very tricky), the bellman will park your car for you in an underground lot for 12 euros a day.

The hotel is very well situated to tour the historical area of the city. The members of the staff of the hotel were most helpful and responsive. As we were checking out, we mentioned we wanted to tour Graham's winery and the desk clerk gave us a free pass; so, the wine tasting cost nothing.

Never got my wakeup call and they tried to say that it was my fault. Old style security, one simple lock, no card key. Concierge recommended a restaurant that turned out to be a half hour away by cab. Not hospitable. A five star hotel that's really three stars.

It was POURING rain when we arrived at the hotel. As with most "city" hotels we stayed at in Portugal, there is no place to park a car while checking in and we dreaded the thought of having to find a place to park in the rain (best advise . . . .avoid driving in downtown Porto). So we pulled up in front, completely blocking all other cars from entering […] and exiting, but the doorman said, "no problem," walked us to the entrance with an umbrella, asked for our keys, and parked the car for us. I have stayed at other 5 star hotels in Europe (usually, I downgrade the star by one, when I am in Europe- compared to the star rating in US). Well, this is NOT a 5 star, period. I had to debate between the location vs. really nice hotel, and chose location. There was a portable AC in the room that did not work. I tried the AC remote control several times with no success. It wasn't too hot although I stayed here in August of 2010, so that was ok.. Bathrooms can be nicer but it is ok. The guys at the front desk were not that friendly but they were ok. Breakfast was also ok. So overall, this is not a great hotel nor a bad hotel. I would think that they would be a 3 star hotel in US, and perhaps 4 star in Europe, definitely not a 5 star. But then the price is great compared to other 5 star hotels, so I think it is logical that you read the reviews and expect 3-4 star hotel in a great location. Dining tip: There is a restaurant right in front of the hotel called Augustim, and they had great food, and the service was more than superb. Try there! Read more

Turn down service with chocolates left on our pillow every evening was a bonus after a long day of sight seeing and walking (lots of hills in Porto so be prepared for exercising your calf muscles!) Really good, clean hotel in excellent location for both sight seeing, shopping and dining. Very friendly and helpful staff. Get a room facing the back and away from the service elevator as you might otherwise have some difficulty getting proper sleep. Rooms are small but well equipped. Excellent value for money. We will return for sure.

Wonderful hotel - loved all the Art Deco furniture. Room was immaculately cleaned at all times. Only criticism is that the bar downstairs never seems to be manned and we were unable to get a drink every time we tried!! Really enjoyed the breakfast buffet each day too. Highly recommend this hotel - very central too!

The good things - the staff was very helpful, and the bed and the pillows were the most comfortable I have ever seen. The bathroom was nice and big and the hotel is beautiful. This is rated as 5 * hotel but we did not have a five star experience. The bathroom was dark and shabby. There was barely room to get out of the bath/ shower. Also the room was dark with no natural light. 3泊しました。とにかくスタッフが親切で明るい。勧めてくれるレストランは的確かつ有益、早い時間の電車に乗るため7時半からの朝食は取れない日があったとき「あしたは朝食抜きなんだよ・・」とダメもとで行ってみたら「ささやかだけど用意してあげる」と6時半にパンとコーヒーを準備してもらえ感激した。こんな観光地の便利なロケーションの由緒あるホテルで、こんなにアットホームなホテルに泊まれると思っていなかったので、本当に満足。建物も古風なエレベーターや無意味に広い（笑）エレベーターホールなど、建物自体の歴史を感じさせて、ポルトに居るんだなぁと実感できる。

ポルトは坂の多い町。地図では距離が短くても、大きな荷物を持った旅行者には、きつい上り坂だったりする。このホテルは、メトロのアリアドス駅から多少坂を上る位置にあるが、そのような苦労は無かった。歴史や格式の方で取り上げられることが多いホテルであるが、利便性も高い。

4月の終わりに3泊しました。内装がとてもおしゃれで楽しめました。何よりエレベーターがレトロで、乗るときドアを自分で手前に開けて、というのが面白かったです。私が泊まった最終日は土曜日だったのですが、裏で太鼓を叩いたり歌を歌ったりの騒ぎがあって目が覚めました。特にお祭りというわけではなく、週末は若い人たちがお店に集まって騒いでるそうです。ポルトの主な観光地に徒歩で行けるので、街歩きにも便利だと思います。
