Nice time

Great location for walking the strip. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay.
"Great Price, Poor Hotel Upkeep"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The room was a steal at the price, and it was right on the strip. Only complaints /i had were poor lobby lay-out (had to ask where the check in desk was) and poor room and elevator maintenance, the elevators shook so bad i thought we could plunge to the bottom at any moment.

"TI Las Vegas"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Hotel accomodation were OK, been Treasure Island, was expecting better accommodations, but hotel is showing his age and use. Got surprise when we check in with a mandatory fee for resort, that seen like I miss reading about when I pay, was $29 per day, but since I book so early was charge $22 a day,I try to explain we was not interested on using pool or gym since we were there for convention, but was explain that fee was not a choice and we have to pay, so we have to pay 5 days more over the price of the room. Also I ask for handicap room and they told me our room was handicap accesable, but we have a tub and no shower.

The neon, twinkling lights of vintage Vegas are on full display downtown at the Fremont Street Experience, a five-block area that features a few of the city’s longest-operating casinos, a pedestrian mall, and an overhead electronic canopy for laser and light shows. Downtown Las Vegas also houses city hall, the 18b Arts District, and a large outlet mall.

Wait until construction is done. This is a mess.
"Construction"
Construction/destruction inside hotel starts at 6:30 AM, completely unacceptable that I was not notified of this. The workers fill the elevator up with drywall/destructed debris all day long, have to ride up and down elevator with all of it. Hotel should be closed during this. I was one room from where rooms were being torn down, walls and all. I will […] NEVER return to this hotel. Read more
"Ok if nothing else available"
The room was very small and very old, but had been newly upgraded with tile, carpet, paint, and furniture. Bed was very clean and comfortable, AC was good. Hot water in shower was inconsistent, either way too hot or too cold, difficulty in achieving a nice warm/hot shower, water pressure was okay. Staff were very, very good and helpful. I may stay there […] again after all of the constrcution and upgrades are completed. Read more
"Great place for eveing entertainment!"
My fiance and I enjoyed our stay at the Gold Gate. Things were very clean. It felt like home! We enjoyed the nights out on "Old Vegas" and would def come back again!! The negative reviews we read were ALL wrong! All of our party stayed on the main strip and the cab drives back and forth cost a lot so next time, we're going to tell'm all to stay here […] :))) Read more
"Very Small Hotel and Casino."
The hotel was under renovation. No parking lot to park your car. Room was never cleaned properly. Lots of Construction noise from 5:00 am till the afternoon.

"Fun reasonably-priced Vegas"
We will visit the GoldenGate once its reno is completed!!!
"Internet access poor"
Don't fall for the "fast internet" ploy. I had to buy internet time from the casino next door.
"a shocking experience"
so much old carpeting everywhere , static shocks with every door knob touch or every elevator button pushed. 'cool location . small room but serves it purpose, i dont think i had a ironing board though, decent casino. dancing girlz ok. but the ones in las vegas club are cooler and hotter to me
"Wait until renovations are complete"
The Hotel is under renovation (April 2012), so I would wait until that is compelte. The location is nice if you want to stay on Fremont. We paid very little (U. Grant for Fri & Sat night) so I felt it was worth the money, but I would not have paid a whole lot more as there are nicer options, especially given its current state.
"Golden Gate Hotel in Las Vegas"
Normally, I don't have a problem with Hotels rooms in Vegas because, I'm there to sleep...BUT... Their website does say it's being remodeled/updated, but nowhere does it say that the parking lot is totally gone! You can use the Valet, but there is only about 12 spots. The room was only about 12x12. No extra space for sitting. The room was clean. […] The room looked remodeled a bit, but the bathroom did not. I'm not a snob, so it was clean enough for my standards. I have stayed just about everywhere in Downtown Vegas and love it down there. I drive up from Phoenix, so if I'd known there was no parking lot, I wouldn't have stayed there. Read more
I am very picky about hotels and I liked this one I liked the charm of old fashion feel and all furniture and bedding was new I did have some problems with the plumbing but they came immediately and handled the situation I would stay here again but it is true about the air conditioner doesnt really work well I dont think I would stay here in summer […] time unless its the new side they are adding on Read more
"Be a part of History"
The first Hotel in Las Vegas! Got a great corner room with views of Main & Fremont streets. Noisy from outside until after 2am then wasn't bad. Nice room, bed.
"front staff"
the staff at the front desk were very helpful when there was a problem with my reservation that needed to be resolved.
"Front Desk needs a clue"
Customer service could go a long-way to helping this hotel. Was able to get on an earlier flight, arrived at 10am, politely requested if it was possible to check in earlier, if not we'd be happy to leave our bags. Front desk said "yeah, about 5 hours too early, we check in at 3". We apologized for not calling ahead, but then were given keys, so I guess […] that was a win. Room was small, but clean. Overlooking a band on Fremont street. First time to old vegas, looking for the "charm of old vegas" that everyone was talking about, but overall this street is a dump. Hotel is currently in renovation, so its a pit, but has potential. Go when renovation is complete. Cheap option, I had an idea of what to expect, but this was below my already low standards. Wouldn't stay again, cheaper/comparable options on the strip with a scene in vegas that I prefer to the "Fremont st Experience" It was an experience all-right. Read more
"Golden Gate in Vegas"
Great location, got last-minute reservation, room was ok but bathroom was small & old. Shower was a dribble. Staff was great, very helpful.
"unreal noise"
The room was clean but tiny. I could not see the fremont street experience but it was if the band outside were in my room. Incredibly loud, even at 1am. I've stayed at every other downtown property except fremont and gold spike and this was my least favorite. The shrimp cocktail is now $2.99. The staff was nice and check in and out were fast. Elevator […] was slow. Read more

"Cleanliness"
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Golden Gate Hotel this past weekend, celebrating my acceptance into grad school. The reason I picked this hotel was because it was conveniently located, reasonably priced and the rooms seemed to be clean and comfortable. When we arrived we found hair within the sheets and pillows. I was disgusted, we ended up staying […] in our friends hotel room at planet hollywood on the main strip. We let the concierge know when we checked out but i don't think it was documented. Hopefully this was just a one-time incident. We hope to find a hotel we can stay at under different circumstances. We stay in Fremont often and plan to use hotels.com for our future reservations. Read more

"Great Stay"
Yes the rooms are small, but great location and all the amenties in room where great. Would go back in a heartbeat.
"Golden Gate Hotel and Casino"
My husband and I were very disappointed with our stay at your casino. We had just driven 9hours and arrived tired and wanting to enjoy a relaxing evening after enjoying the walk down Freemont Street and the attendant at the desk gave us a room right below the band that was playing that evening and it was so loud we were unable to sleep. We understood […] that this hotel was under construction, but surely we could have had a better room, so the next evening we did get a much quieter room and larger one also. We appreciated that the staff there did their best to accomodate us that next night, but it would have been so much better if we had this same room the night before. We're sure that the new part of this hotel will be much better, but our stay there unfortunately was not what we expected and we were very unhappy with this experience. We also thought that for all the construction and noise, that at least we could have been provided with free coffee and internet, like so many of the other places we stayed at had. Read more
Very noisy due to construction. Also very thin walls, you hear everything. Bathrooms are very old and out dated. Would not recommend this hotel.
"small rooms"
First off the room is really small and although I had a nice flat screen TV in it the room had no cable service
"Right by all the action"
The staff, location, food and casino were great. I won't comment on the physical condition because they are in the middle of a major renovation that should be over with this spring. Suited my needs perfectly, the price was reasonable and where else can you watch dancing dealers but in their casino? Then you walk right out the door to the main stage […] on the Freemont Street Experience where you can wonder up and down the street, with street vendors and light shows. Elvis impersonators and show girls all willing to stand by you and have their picture taken for tips. Read more
"Golden Gate Hotel - Las Vegas, NV"
Lady at registration desk was extremely RUDE! Was informed that our room was facing Fremont St but that the noice wouldn't be too bad. Had to wear earplugs until at least 1:30 because of loadspeakers for bands. Nasty mold in tub, water pressure was terrible (shower water went from cold to hot and back every time another guest turn water on). Got shocked […] alot when touching any metal. But DuPar's restaurant was pretty good. We won't be going there again and have told friends about our terrible experience. Read more
"Golden Gate Hotel and Casino"
The first night the hotel manager knocked on my door accompanied by an armed guard and asked me if I had taken a shower. There was water leaking through the roof into the gaming area downstairs and she was knocking on all the doors in the corridor. The carpet in the reception area was very old and stained. This hotel is one of the oldest in Las Vegas. […] The room was clean and comfortable. They charge for coffee in the room. A day after leaving the hotel I noticed a transaction on my credit card " T and E Golden Gate hotel and Casino" for fifty dollars that didn't correspond to anything that I am aware of that I purchased at the hotel. I called the hotel and they said that they have no record of this transaction. I called the credit card company and they say that the Charge came from the hotel. The first night was very noisy as there was a bad heavy metal band with gogo dancers performing outside the hotel on a stage in Freedmont street. Surprised that they are allowed to present this type of entertainment next to a hotel even in Las Vegas. My impression of the hotel lobby and casino area was that it was downmarket and a bit sleazy and that some of the women I saw there were not just earning their incomes from gambling. They say that they are renovating it. The staff were courteous.A friend who stayed there at the same time could not lock his window that faced onto a roof top and could be accessed from other rooms so he left his computer with reception during the day. There was a very strong smell of cigarettes in the corridor outside the rooms though not in my room. Read more
"Golden Gate Hotel - ok for the price"
This was my first time at this hotel. The room was small but very clean and the front desk was always nice and friendly. What I didn't enjoy was the fact that there was a live band both the days that I was there until 1 am and I really couldn't block out the sound. The room was a bit warm and the indoor temperature control did not work. The worst was […] having to sign up for WiFi service.I purchased a 3 day plan and the tech support for the company that provides WiFi service couldn't get the service to work. If it wasn't for the live bands my stay here was ok, not great but it was ok. The price was awesome but the deposit on a pre-paid room is just not a very good thing. Would I recommend this place to other, if you're in a tight budget and are only staying for a bit then yes I would recommend it but I would recommend that you look around before committing to this hotel. "Golden Gate las vegas"
The location of the hotel was great we were right on fremont street where all the action takes place at night. The table games were better prices then on the strip. You could tell the room was very old and needed some updates.
"Great spot"
I spent New Year's celebration at this Hotel at the Fremont..Vegas is a nightlife city..Staying up late was not a problem. By the time, I went to bed, the band had stopped playing..The bed was soft and comfortable..I would stay in this hotel again. I recomment the Golden Gate, if you are looking to play all nite and sleep late in the morning. The hotel […] clerks were nice and glad to help with directions. The waitresses were a bit slow getting your drink while playing, but it was a busy nite..Overall, a great place to spend the night and have some fun. Read more
"Golden Gate Hotel and Casino"
Very small room, small bathroom, dark closet - felt almost like being in a prison!
"on Fremont"
the room was tiny and faced the street where the PARTY was going on.. BUT..this is Vegas! They are in the middle of a remodel so it will be interesting how this all changes. Valet parking was the only way to park, but it was really easy to do! Can't complain when you can get a room in Vegas for a cheap price!

"Hotel Stink"
The hotel is old. The elevator, rooms, etc. had a terrible odor. Could hear outside noises all night.
"Great hotel for the $"
Great spot in the re-emerging area of Freemont Street. Very small rooms, but they are very inexpensive, clean and semi-modern. Be sure you request a room NOT facing Freemont Street. Even if you go to bed after 2am to miss the live bands, they pipe music through speakers starting around 6am. Makes it pretty difficult to sleep. Fortunately, the hotel […] was very accommodating in re-locating us. Read more

"Downtown Vegas Hotel"
Nice hotel. It was the first hotel in Vegas and had an historic feel. Location was very convient, as it was right on the main Freemont Experience. That was also just one complaint. There was a concert that was going on right next to the hotel so it was a bit loud from our room that was located opposite of the concert...but who goes to Vegas for quiet […] time anyways. Read more
"So so"
Bathroom needs to be updated. Bedspread was dirty. Very loud music heard at night. Bedroom was update nicely, that was a plus. I was double charged on my card for the food items I used in the room. Won't stay here again.
"Golden Gate - Great Location"
Great Location. Hotel is 100 years old, so do not expect the Aria. If you stay up front, music from Fremont is extremely loud, don't expect to to sleep or even watch TV before 2AM. Casino if fun.
"Small"
Well, room very small. Bathroom a little outdated. Hot water pressure was all over the place. You set the shower to a comfortable level and it gets cold then hot, repeat constantly. The streets outside are a bit seedy. Surprising being it's only a block off of Fremont St. but seedy characters loitering around outside. Over all, it wasn't bad, but […] the room is just too small. It's a historic place and I understand that the rooms were smaller in the past but I wouldn't stay here again Read more
"Historic and Smelly"
We chose this as a 2nd honeymoon and to be close to activities instead of doing the long walks down the Strip. It was smelly. We do like historic hotels, but this one smelled. Although we dont visit Vegas for quiet, we do like to get some sleep . This hotel doesnt allow that. We heard everyones conversations, as well as their children running the halls. […] We will not stay again Read more
"Horrible"
Our room was adjacent to an alley where the hotel's dumpsters are. There was a garbage truck picking up dumpsters for 30 minutes around 5 am. There is one cart in the entire hotel for 100 rooms to bring your luggage up and downstairs. Bathrooms are amazingly small. Love the location and price, but would ask for a room not on the side of the garbage […] dumpster alleys. Read more
"Nice deal for the money at the Golden Gate."
Right in the middle of Fremont St. experience. It is loud until midnight but then all music has to shut down on Fremont St so it isn't so bad. Great service friendly staff. Blackjack dealers dance on the tables in the casino and are very friendly.
"Golden Gate dropped the ball."
Stayed many times at Golden Gate. Its noisy, old, but usualy a good, fun stay. Staff this visit seem uninvolved/detatched. Might be a fluke, so if you stay here, don't exspect much in service for now. The rooms are clean, quick access to Fremont st. I'm more neutral with this visit.
"Downtown is the best!"
The downtown experience is the best, and the Golden Gate is part of it. The new Party Pits are the hottest thing in Vegas. Beautiful girls, scantily clad, dealing blackjack and other table games bring the energy way up and make breaking even at the tables a great time. There is an Ozzy and Alice Cooper tribute band that plays for free on Fremont street […] every night, and they are really good. Tons of other free entertainment on Fremont Street as well. Throw in $1 margaritas and $2 Heineken or Coronas at the Fremont Hotel just down the street = a very good time @ an incredible value. Also 10 oz Prime Rib dinners at a bunch of places for $8-$9. We tried Tony Romas and Magnolia's at 4 Queens and both were worth $15 easy. My 3 friends stayed on the strip where margaritas were $8 each, we had 2 rounds for all for of us for that price, and they were good tasting as well! All 3 of them agreed without a doubt that they will stay Downtown next time. Golden Gate is one of the OG casinos and their embrace of the new party pit atmosphere is allowing them to expand in the near future. All the tables are dealt by Party Pit Beauties and 3 of them are on little stages dancing as well. Hedonistic Heaven! My one complaint is that I had a room overlooking the street, and you could hear the band playing till 2 am. It didn't bother me too much but next time I will ask for a room off the street for a bit more quiet. Read more
