"Needs major improvement"
The hotel is in a great location but it needs major remodeling and updating. The entrance to the hotel is at the corner of two busy streets so when we first drove up to the front of the building, we cannot stop and get off the car because there was no driveway and we were blocking the street. We had to go around the block to check if there was another […] driveway to drive through, stop and get off the car. The lobby was old and had the look of a grand old saloon. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a junior suite which I thought was very nice. The room they gave us was big but old and dated, nothing special. It looked out to the roof and air conditioner compressor of the other building. There was a flat screen TV on a dresser drawer about 10 feet away from the bed. "Historic hotel but a lot of changes needed"
While the location of the hotel was perfect, everything else fell flat here. The walls were EXTREMELY THIN, the room size is small, the television was unplugged when we got here, the bath tub had scratches in it, there was a water stain on the floor, and the sheets weren't completely clean. We called the front desk to ask for our sheets to be changed […] and when we came back, we realized they only changed the top sheet. We called again asking for them to change them, but they simply just delivered sheets up for us to change ourselves. Even worse, they gave us the wrong size sheets so we had to call them again for new sheets. The new sheets they gave us were the actual size, but they gave the wrong type (we needed a fitted sheet). "Close to convention center and central area"
I thought this was a very nice hotel. The price I got on this site plus the location near the convention center and central downtown area was great. The parking was off site but worth the 29$ you pay for valet because everything is within walking distance and if you accidentally left something in your car the hotel staff would gladly have the valet […] service retrieve it for you and bring it to your room. My only complaint and reason I did not give this place a 5 out of 5 rating is because the beds were really hard, no in room fridge, and no free breakfast, but the Italian restaurant attached was worth the money for breakfast and dinner! "Comfortable Hotel, close to Convention Center"
This is a newly remodeled hotel in downtown San Jose near the Convention Center. The downsides are that you can only valet park your car ($29) with in-and-out privileges, but they said that we could park in city parking for $10 less but wouldn't have in-and-out privileges. We were only staying one night, so that wouldn't have been a problem, but figured […] the extra $10 was worth having our car. The POSITIVE side is they give you the valet ticket with a number/email address to text/email when you're ready for your car (10 minutes before). They were quick, and before we finished checking out our car was there and ready. Close to convention center, and the inside was nicely remodeled. The staff were very friendly, and the only downside is our room was next to someone having a loud 11:30pm party. Loud talking and laughing could be heard, and we had to call the front desk to ask them to quiet that room down. The sheets and bed were comfortable, the bathtub had a high shower head for tall people (myself) and the shampoo/conditioner were high end and smelled wonderful! I was glad to be informed upon check in that the hotel is undergoing renovation to become a Westin because that explained a lot of the shortcomings: very tired and not so clean rooms, lackadaisical service, A/C not working and faucet handles falling off. This hotel built in the 20's and has gorgeous decor in the lobby. The only one complaint I had was the deadbolt in our room was so sticky that I could barely lock and only my husband could unlock it, so while he was gone for the evening for several hours I could not use it which didn't give me a secure feeling. If I had used it I would've gotten locked […] in the room. But in fairness I didn't ask to change rooms. Only other issue was a somewhat rude front desk clear who made a remark about how they couldn't accommodate a request I made for adjacent rooms with my friend because they were full and I booked the room "through Expedia". Hotel was clean,nice with plenty of charm but the room itself was tiny. Had a huge tv stand/chest that took up half the space and the queen bed took up the rest.
