"Stay in a renovated room, but housekeeping MIA"
You can stay in a nice room, after quite a bit of negotiation, but you'll have to bring your own towels! Upon check-in, I was initially placed in a non-renovated room and told the top floor had been renovated, but I could not stay there. I checked out a non-renovated room where the room was disheveled and muggy as the windows were left open on a low […] floor. I requested to be moved and truly enjoyed being placed in a renovated room but received limited to no housekeeping services over my 3 day stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice, for an older smaller hotel"
The Sainte Claire is an older hotel, but has everything a business traveler might need. The room is small, but when I'm traveling on business I don't need much space. Even though space may be lacking, it has all the things I need and then some. In-room iron & board, a refrigerator, plenty of outlets for charging gadgets, desk space, a nice tv on a […] swivel, A/C, alarm clock with iPhone dock, and the 6th floor has newly renovated rooms with a very nice bathroom. On the first floor is an Italian restaurant I heard is very good, but did not personally eat at. Around the block is a little cafe (Cafe Frescati) where you can get some excellent morning coffee items. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"San Jose Respite"
Perfect hotel for what I needed: Close to the Tech Museum of Innovation, one block from Original Joe's, Il Fornaio on the ground floor, and a great area in which to walk around downtown San Jose. I would stay there, again! Thanks to the staff at the Sainte Claire Hotel!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I needed a night away from the kids. The hotel had a very friendly staff. Use the valet because it only a tiny bit more many than the parking garages a block away. I suggest calling down to the front desk to have them pull your car up. We ordered room service and enjoyed the food. The response was fast and the food was hot. I felt the […] coffee was a little over priced and was a little caught off guard since the drink prices weren't on the menu. The beds were very comfy and the room was quiet. "Right In the Middle of it all!"
Very friendly staff. With Il Fornaio as the restaurant of the property, room service was above par. There was some 9-5 reconstruction going on, but that didn't affect me. There was a disturbing leak in the shower (we're in a drought!) but they are working out those issues.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Room noise and Valet Parking Idiot"
Overall, the hotel is nice and clean. I did not like how I could hear the neighbors conversation all night long. The valet is on point BUT an idiodt from the valet parking based on his judgement thought I was driving a different car than what was really mine. My car was out front (BMW 5 series), I walked towards two valet guys, I ask for the keys I […] point to my car while I get the ticket number. The idiot guy says "no that's not his car, his car is that chevy", I tell him "no, that is not my car (smh) and give him a tip and leave". People around us heard and just starred at the guy. I honestly did feel insulted by him. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Sainte Claire Hotel Your experience was unacceptable; there is no other way to put it. It was wrong of our valet team to suggest you were not the driver of your BMW upon your departure, and to confront you in front of other guests in front of the hotel is embarrassing for me to hear. I deeply apologize about this interaction you experienced and can assure you I will be following up with our team to reiterate our high standards of guest satisfaction. In regards to the nature of our guest rooms, we are currently in the process of a major renovation which is focused on constructing brand new walls between guest rooms to prevent sound from traveling between rooms. I hope that you are able to allow us the opportunity to show you our improved look in the future. Best Regards, Eric Pasch General Manager

"Great hotel walking distance to SAP Center"
Drove up from LA arrived staff was ready and waiting out front. Valet was $29 but that seems about what everyone else was charging. Check in went smooth and quickly then off to the room. The elevator was a but on the older side but it got the job done. The hall way on the way to our room was in decent/good condition a few stains here or there. The room […] however was great besides the one chair showing a little wear. Beds were comfortable, shower pressure was awesome, and temperature control worked great. I would and will stay here again; great staff and prime location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Tired room and tired staff"
I was glad to be informed upon check in that the hotel is undergoing renovation to become a Westin because that explained a lot of the shortcomings: very tired and not so clean rooms, lackadaisical service, A/C not working and faucet handles falling off. Until the place is transformed, you'll be in a great location, nice old building/hotel but held […] in a lame duck holding pattern without any investment of service or amenities until it becomes a Westin and out of my price range. I almost got the impression that the staff didn't know if they'd really have a job or not. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Sainte Claire Hotel Dear Sushigirl, I am glad that you were informed of our renovation upon arrival and I do apologize for the current nature of our hotel. Although our renovation will be addressing many of the issues you mentioned, it is by no means an excuse for any un-cleanliness you experienced during your stay. We are constantly aware of the delicate nature of our hotel and it frustrates me to hear that the little details of maintaining our current appearance were not upheld during your stay. I thank you for bringing these issues to my attention as we can constantly improve through our guest feedback. I hope that you allow us to serve you in the future and show you our improved appearance and service. Best Regards, Eric Pasch General Manager
Very old hotel right across the street from the convention center. The rooms are small and you get a lot of noise from the street and the rooms on either side of you. "Great hotel close to everything downtown."
This cute hotel is right in the thick of all the downtown action. The staff is friendly, the beds are comfortable... The only drawback is parking is $39 per night. That seems excessive and when added to the price of the room makes it seem not as good of a deal.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Grocery shopping in Japan Town"
It wasn't quite excellent, but it was very good. Hotel was a little farther from Japan Town than I expected, but that was my fault. I didn't really care for the parking situation; Valet parking only. Hotel was very good. I travel about 50% of the year for business. I was looking for a convenient place for my Wife and I to stay while attending a competition that my daughter was competing in. Response by The Sainte Claire Hotel I want to take the time to deeply apologize for the less than desirable interaction with our guest service agents. Response by The Sainte Claire Hotel Our service philosophy revolves around our guest experiences and we are constantly challenging ourselves to be leaders in our industry. Despite the age of our hotel, it is unacceptable for any guest to depart feeling that they stayed in a dirty establishment. We are currently under a major renovation to improve our overall appearance, but this is in no way an excuse for the uncleanly nature of our hotel. Our inability to answer your calls is not our standard when servicing our guests. Although our staff is small, we require a constant presence on our telephones in order to allow every opportunity for guest communication. We thank you for the opportunity to improve from the feedback you have presented and I will be taking the time to personally address the issues you experienced. I hope upon completion of our renovation you allow us the opportunity to show you our improvements. Best Regards, Eric Pasch General Manager

"Great old hotel"
This hotel built in the 20's and has gorgeous decor in the lobby. The only one complaint I had was the deadbolt in our room was so sticky that I could barely lock and only my husband could unlock it, so while he was gone for the evening for several hours I could not use it which didn't give me a secure feeling. If I had used it I would've gotten locked […] in the room. But in fairness I didn't ask to change rooms. Only other issue was a somewhat rude front desk clear who made a remark about how they couldn't accommodate a request I made for adjacent rooms with my friend because they were full and I booked the room "through Expedia". Hotel was clean, nice with plenty of charm but the room itself was tiny. Had a huge tv stand/chest that took up half the space and the queen bed took up the rest. "Outdated and unclean..."
Not the best location, it is in the middle of an intersection with barely any space to park to check in. Coming into the hotel room, it smelled of terrible cigarette smoke even when we got a non-smoking room for our family. The people are loud, no consideration. The carpet was not vacuumed in our room and there were strands of hair in one of the beds. […] The bathroom feels very dirty...gross to walk around the room with just socks on. I recommend bringing home slippers if you decide to stay here. Not a lot of outlets for plugging in your phone or laptop. Very tight space. I do like the toiletries, though. "Nice hotel across from convention center."
We usually stay at the Marriott because it's conveniently connected to the convention center where we have to go. This time, however, we were unable to get a room there. Saint Claire is right across the street from the Marriott so I decided location-wise it was the next best thing. So I looked up rates and (surprisingly) found the rates significantly […] lower than the Marriott. But the lower rate did not take away from the quality because this place was awesome. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was absolutely fabulous. It's definitely an old hotel (built in the '20s) so it doesn't have the modernizations like the Marriott and parts of the carpet looks like it needs some attention. But, overall, this place has charm. My only complaint was the loudness of the air conditioning unit in the room (again, the hotel is pretty old) and that we could never really get a good control over the temperature. There didn't seem to be good air circulation so we found we had to keep the air running more often which made the room cold. But no big deal. With everything else a plus, I would stay here again. I've stayed at the Sainte Claire Hotel numerous times and in the past year it has been slipping downhill. The staff at the front desk is very courteous however the hotel itself is getting shabby. The room service is terrible - they took an hour to delivery my dinner and half of it was missing. The server marked down the entre never to return. Response by The Sainte Claire Hotel I thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valued feedback; we certainly appreciate it. "Classy, cordial and convenient"
Every contact I had with the hotel staff was positive. From my first phone call to checking out at 5 am, I felt welcomed and appreciated. The hotel is a beautiful historic landmark and is in a neighborhood packed with local restaurants and points of interest in the city. I came for a Sharks game and walked to SAP Center in 15 minutes! Loved it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Within walking distance to the SAP Sharks game."
The room was great. Clean and comfortable. The only downside was that after the game we could not find a place to get a good coffee drink. Baileys and coffee. "Beautiful historic hotel"
We really enjoyed our stay. The architecture in the hotel lobby was amazing and it continued into our room. The bathroom was small, but quaint with a painted ceiling that was simply charming. The bed was a bit on the soft side and while there were tons of pillows on the bed, they were just a little over the size of a piece of paper. Room service from […] Il Fornaio was very good and the gentleman who brought our tray was very accommodating.
