I had made reservations over the phone through Hotels.com and requested the room be a certain size and it needed to be handicap accessible because I use a power wheelchair. I had booked a "delux king" room and figured the size of the room would be adequate for $168/ night. Once I entered the room I couldn't even turn my chair around. It was extremely […] small! I couldn't even get my chair into the bathroom. Thee room was the smallest hotel room I had ever been in, I could have paid $100 less and got twice the size at Motel 6. Basically there was enough room for two beds and room to "walk around them. Me and my two guests had to stay on the bed due to lack of space. This hotel is nothing like it appears in the pictures, it's old, outdated and not in an antique way, and for sure is not worth that kind of money. The only thing good about it is the location. Trust me you'd be happier at Motel 6, this is no 4 star anything. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic hotel, excellent location, pricey parking"
Friendly staff, historic hotel with lots of character. The room was a bit small, some wear that was somewhat acceptable because of the age of the hotel. The wood sink countertops added a nice touch but they had some wear. I don't know if it's because I booked through Expedia, but our room had a view of the rooftop and air conditioning system. You also […] need to add $29/day to the price of the room for parking which is typical of most downtown hotels. Very convenient hotel if you are attending any functions that are taking place at Cesar Chavez Park, Center for the Performing Arts, Convention Center (all 3 across the street) and San Jose State (4 blocks) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Sainte Claire is the 2nd oldest hotel in San Jose. It is well maintained and located near a subway station. We drove and they offered parking at the hotel. The rooms was spacious and had many details that you don't find in ordinary hotels like a tray ceiling. Although we were under the flight path of the San Jose airport, we could not hear the planes. […] It was very quiet. I highly recommend you stay at the Sainte Claire when you visit San Jose. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Walls very thin"
Our stay was wonderful and we will probably return. BUT the next time I will ask for a room that doesn't have children next door. 10:30pm and the children were still yelling and playing, screaming, etc. As well as the adults talking very loudly. But we will still return. Very nice visit to San Jose.Genuine Expedia guest review
"In the heart of Downtown San Jose"
I enjoyed staying in the Sainte Claire Hotel. I love the feel of a small hotel. The service was impeccable and the room was comfortable. Bathroom was a bit small and old but charming.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and Friendly"
The wife and I needed a place to stay since we were spending the evening with friends out in San Padro Square/Market. The staff were friendly and inviting. Quick and efficient getting us from the car into check-in. We booked last minute online through Hotels.com and were upgraded to a larger room that over looked the park across the street. The rooms […] were clean and fresh. The mural, color and lighting in the bathroom mimicked natural light, my first thought was if there was a skylight until I entered the bathroom. The value was incredible compared to other hotels in the area. Needless to say, we will be booking with them again on our next evening out in Downtown San Jose. "Maintenance on Hold"
This hotel has been slowly deteriorating. The story has been that the hotel will be reflagged, but in the interim it seems like they have stopped maintaining the property. It's a great building and a great location. I hope that somebody gets it into shape again, but until then, I'm back at the Fairmont.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very courteous and helpful. This hotel is beautifully maintained, and it offers a view into the past without compromising present day convenience. The adjacent restaurant, Il Fornaio, offers fabulous food and a lovely setting. Bravo Hotel St. Claire!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NOT VERY USER-FRIENDLY"
HOTEL IS DATED. ROOM IS VERY SMALL. THERE IS A SPOT ON THE COMFORTER COVER SHEET. AIR CONDITIONING KEEP TURNING OFF AND ON MAKING LOUD NOISE.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, but not for business travelers"
No outlets in room for computer/mobile devices, non-existent coffee service before restaurant opens at 7am and very small/ limited scope fitness center.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, great hotel!"
We have stayed here twice because of its proximity to the Civic Center Auditorium. The room is perfect and the location couldn't be better.Genuine Expedia guest review
Dinner was okay. breakfast was good. Quiet, clean and comfortable rooms. Easy access to freeways. Would stay again. Only issue was the server for breakfast was really inexperienced. The hotel had few amenities. The porcelin in the bathtub in my room was chipped badly and was partially covered by an old rubber mat. I expected much more from a hotel with this reputation. I would not stay here again; especially with a Marriott right across the street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful hotel. Wasn't too updated so I think it was trying to maintain the historic vibe.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for events at Civic Center. Needs update."
Staff was polite, and attentive, but the hotel needs a bit of an update. The bedspread was not clean, and looked like it had a coffee stain on it. (I hope).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a very pleasant stay at The Sainte Claire. The hotel is old, but very modernized in its amenities. The location is superb (right downtown). I wasn't thrilled with the $29 overnight parking charge for our car, but I guess that's par for course these days . . .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I am from San Jose and came home for a visit. I will never stay at this outdated hotel again. The hotel was way over priced and had an additional parking fee that was ridiculous. Make sure you call ahead of time. The room itself needed major improvements. The TV was older than the one at my grandmothers house. The AC unit was so loud that it woke me […] up everytime it came on. The staff was so friendly which made things bearable. I ordered dinner from the hotel restaurant and even though it was a bit pricey, the food was delicious. Breakfast was just ok. Dirty bathroom, tub paint was chipped and disgusting looking, red paint or something red was on the tub it looked like a crime scene :( wish I would've seen this when we first checked in. But we were in a hurry. The A/C was extremely loud, kept waking me up. When we got our vehicle from valet there was a dent on the right passenger door :( Overall really […] bad experience. The Saint Claire was a perfectly comfortable and clean hotel. I checked in at 3 in the morning and was still given perfectly prompt and polite service with no hassle. We made a pit stop in San Jose before our final destination. Myself, my husband, and our 9 month old son. We utilized the valet service in Lou of street parking, we forgot our stroller (the bulky ergo 3rd wheeler) in our car. Valet service went and retrieved the stroller and brought it straight to our room in a matter of minutes! We had a great view […] and the bathroom was huge! Only complaints were that the tub wasn't clean enough, there were brown marks coming from the tub jets and the tv channel list didn't note a guide channel... Endless scanning. Would stay again, really nice location and service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The front desk was not very helpful. One girl was, Brittney, the other larger, taller woman was very lazy and not being helpful at all. I checked in after 9pm and was very tired. The first lazy lady put me in a King room when I booked a double, when I went down to switch rooms, I got a double that was dirty and not cleaned yet. Waiting 30 minutes for […] someone to come clean the room was frustrated and still, nothing. Thankfully, Britney found a clean double for us (when, lazy lady said none was available, hotel completely booked). The hotel overall looks good, it's just old and has an old somewhat cold smell to it. We blocked off 5 rooms in the hotel for family and all experienced the same thing. But, the plus side is, it's super affordable. Definitely worth $129 if you're just looking for a place to sleep for the night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Had to go to San Jose on business. The pictures on the website make it look like a glamorous old fashioned hotel. However the rooms are very run down - cracks in the bath tub, etc. View of a concrete rooftop. Very disappointed for $270 per nightGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The beds were unbelievably comfortable. The thought that kept coming in to my mind was I can't wait to get back to the marshmallow mattress:)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was okay."
The staff was very kind and attentive. The room was ok. The carpet had two large stains, the ironing board was broken as well as the iron, and the bath tub had some damage. The staff took care of it immediately and were extremely friendly and apologetic. I've stayed at the Fairmont and the Montgomery which I feel are both better choices. If I could […] I would give the overall rating a 3.75. It's not that it was bad it just did not meet my expectations at the price point I paid. I would best describe the property as a little tired. "An old hotel"
An old hotel, the lobby is nice and there are some wonderful early-20th century design features. However the bed linens were ragged and the pillows smelled. Plus, the alarm clock still played CDs, nowhere to dock an MP3 player or iPhone. There are other modern hotels in the area for a comparable price with fresher linens.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great central location, close to light rail"
Love the historic feel and the Il Fornaio at the lobby level makes the ambiance complete.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic, affordable and convenient"
I stay here whenever I stay in San Francisco. The place has a real historic charm, the rooms are fine, but not fancy and the staff is helpful. Don't be put off by the Tenderloin setting - it is not much different from any other big city's downtown and there are lots of good restaurants and coffee houses within blocks. I will go back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a Four Star by Any means"
Had a terrible night, the walls are paper thin and I heard much more than I cared for from the couple next door most of the night. I was also facing the street and could hear the metro train each time it went by. Overall the rooms are outdated, particularly the bathrooms. When asked how my stay was when checking out, I told them I had very little sleep […] because of the noise and they did comp my breakfast, so at least they are aware of the issue. I was told that they were recently bought by Westin and there will be updates made, which is good as they are desperately needed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to the Convention Center for the right price"
Another relaxing stay at the Sainte Claire. The hotel is nice. I've found that it is best to be on the 2nd or 3rd floor as the elevators can be a little slow, something that you will come to realize if you are staying there while a convention is in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I stayed here for a anime convention and it was close, the staff was great, and the room was clean and amazing. Will be staying here more oftenGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a good stay."
There was hair (not mine) in the bathroom. Supposedly had a deluxe king room. It was very small. Also an Anime convention was going on and the people in the next room were laughing and screaming all night. Security did finally get them quiet. Stayed her before and loved it. That's why I booked it again. Won't go back.Genuine Expedia guest review

Best hotel in San jose. Please do not "modernize" or do the normal hotel "frills" - the charm of your hotel is the unique décor, the feel of cozy history - and most of all the very very well trained, utterly helpful and polite, professional staff. "convenient location ~ close to HP Pavilion"
The bed was nice and comfortable, but the thermostat in the room either wasn't functioning properly, or there was something restricting the unit from properly reading the temperature of the room. We weren't in the room very much, but we never did get the room temperature to a desirable level. Both the sink and the bathtub drained really slow. The hotel was nice and had great service and was within walking distance to many resteraunt choices. "Pretty hotel, tough sleeping"
Given the attractiveness of the building, the great staff, and the good condition of the room and bathroom, it is a shame I can't rate the hotel higher. The main purpose of a hotel is to get a decent night's sleep and that was tough here. Even with the fan running constantly, the air conditioning system was so loud in its transition from condenser-on […] to condenser-off and vice versa that it woke me many times during the night leaving me less than rested in the morning. To add insult to that injury, the bathroom light is controlled by a motion sensor so that a midnight trip to use it was met with a unexpected, sudden, and blinding assault on the eyes.
