The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It doesn't have much character but the price for the location is fantastic. The MAX light rail is around the corner which takes you everywhere around town. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on that. If you're looking for a save and clean hotel to sleep this is […] it, but if you want fancy views, luxury rooms or to hang out in the hotel facilities, then look for another place to stay. We stayed on the 2nd floor so you had street noise. Didn't like the fee for parking. $17.00 a day. It's cheaper to park in HI then OR. I thought we paid for the hotel & everything was covered. This was the 2nd time this happened to us. I will have to rethink when we need another Hotel whether we us this type of website again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The pictures are deceiving"
So the pictures are definitely not true. The room smelled like damp cigarettes. I paid quite a bit to stay here thinking it was going to be a nice place. WRONG!!! This is actually a Red Lion Inn with a cheap 'Portland Convention Center' banner draped over the sign. Super Lame!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"VERY BAD HOTEL I HAVE HAD............."
1. The hotel is very old model and smell compare to picture is opposite. 2. There is no working air conditioner; sorry ... we can have a fan for you... 3. There is no parking spot during weekend because of late party on Saturday. However you have to pay for it $ 14.00. 4. The party night is too loud. Could no sleep!!!!!!!!!!! Until MID NIGHT. 4. There […] is only one elevator working instead of two. 5. Staff work there is nice until you have complain ... "Walking Distance to the Moda Center"
We were attending a marriage conference at The Moda Center, so this was the perfect location. We left our car in the parking lot and walked, so it was just perfect. The best part was the very comfortable king bed, one of the most comfortable hotel beds (and pillows) we've ever slept in. Two drawbacks: only one elevator was working and it wasn't very […] quick or efficient. Also, I was disappointed that I couldn't use my AARP discount because I made the reservation with you, so it ended up costing us more than it should have for a very basic hotel. It was really more expensive than I would expect for a basic room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the price far outweighs this run down hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was clean but it was not modern. The air conditioner was very loud. Only one elevator worked and we constantly had to share it with cleaning staff or movers. We wanted an inexpensive hotel located in the city or near transit so this hotel met that requirement.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worst hotel we ever stayed at"
Old hotel with stained carpets and broken elevator. Room was ok, but need to have windows cleaned and change curtains. While we were checking in this guy was walking in with a shady looking woman that was obviously there to earn some money. That says it all! We only spend one night , thank God! Also Max train runs next to the hotel so you hear the train […] all night long. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great Location. It is just starting to get renovated. I think it was closing to remodel. I have stayed here in the past and it has always been nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"requires a lot of maintenance."
This hotel extremely needs a makeover badly, down to its original structure. It's old and hasn't been properly maintained and in sore need of a massive restructuring. I'm not surprised that it's closing to just as I spoken.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The air conditioning did not work and the pictures posted are NOT from this hotel. Not to mention it was $130.00 for one night. Parking was $14.00 for a Monday night. Ridiculous. Then the lady working the desk that evening was rude when I asked about the surrounding area (I.e. Somewhere to eat.)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Filthy Room Over priced parking"
Will not return to this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It is an old hotel and poorly maintained. During our stay, one of the two elevators was out of service. The walls were rather thin so it was difficult to sleep at night. We could hear everything going on outside the hotel and outside our room on our floor. My advice is don't stay at this hotel unless it is your only choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was very nice and very helpful, room was very clean and comfortable. Within walking distance to many different eateries, a grocery store, the Lloyd Shopping Center. 5 minutes from Union Station and about 10 minutes to Downtown Portland on the Max Light Rail.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is need of an upgrade. That said the Bed is very comfortable. Location was perfect for my needs. Only one elevator working was a disadvantage.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth saving a few dollars"
The hotel is in an uninteresting and run down area. Not a far walk to downtown. Reservation was for king bed, got 2 queens and told sorry, that's all there is. Hotel is run down and tired. Hallway carpet is filthy and halls smell bad. 6th floor bar dated and service poor, no safe in room. Price was not bad considering Tom Petty and the Quilting convention […] were in town but next time I will spend the extra $$$$ and stay in town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was ok. Nothing fancy. One of te elevators didn't work the whole time we were there. The max station and streetcar were within 2 blocks to get downtown easily. The overall hotel was stained from the walls to the carpet. Little ventilation in the rooms. Beds were comfy. Not the best view on the east side. We were in Portland for a concert at the Moda Center, and this hotel is a convenient and easy walk to the venue. They are definitely overdue for some upgrades, but our room was comfortable and clean. The carpet in the hallway was horrible, but thankfully our room was much better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, tired looking property."
Room was comfortable and ok. Hotel common area looked tired and dirty especially the stained hallway carpets. The place was fine for an overnight stay but I expected better for $196 ( total including parking )Genuine Hotels.com guest review

It was OK, cheap for being booked at the last minute, it was in a convenient location easy to get to from the airport. Room had a funky smell to it but it seemed clean, just older and in need of a renovation. Staff was helpful and nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
Recently changed from a Red Lion. Beware, the metro like is very close and seemed to run at least until 11pm. Too loud. One of the two elevators was broken. Air conditioner was non existent, Hotel claims a central cooling system. Luckily we were on a corner room and opened all the windows before getting dinner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Used to be Red Lion"
This hotel has been purchased from Red Lion and is due to shut down on October 1 for a year's renovations. This is not reflected on the Red Lion website. The rooms are nothing special. Obviously, no extra effort is being made as far as upkeep. Surprisingly, even though it is Oregon, the room was way too warm and the air conditioning only blew some […] air, none of it cold. Outside if hotel was not great but inside and condition of our room was excellent. Portland seems to have a lot of old hotels, so I was resigned to staying in one. But the refurb was well done and we were comfortable except for one of two elevators being out of service.Genuine Expedia guest review
We checked out after the first night. The room we had was facing the street....the streetcars, light rails(?) were just too noisy to sleep well. As first-timers to Portland, we didn't expect the noisy streets.Genuine Expedia guest review
Loud AC , hotel lounge was always booked and either too busy or unavailable to hotel guests. Bed and pillows were uncomfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Definitely not a Red Lion Hotel as advertised"
Hotel was very run down. Only one elevator worked and the pool was closed. There was a Dennys restaurant next door. The host at Dennys also served as a bouncer to keep the homeless people out who were sleeping between the hotel and the restaurant which was about 40 yards away. Though it had been a Red Lion when I booked it, it was now called the Convention […] Center Hotel. I guess if it was still a Red Lion it wouldn't have mattered except that the pictures portrayed in the booking photos were nothing like the reality. Red Lion prices, but a very run down part of town....and hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
One working elevator. DIrty carpet Old. They explained they were closing for a major remodel but I would have stayed there only after ruling out other options. They had banners for signage.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was fine. The staff was friendly. About what I was expecting for a lower budget hotel. Parking costs 14$ per night which wasn't advertised but is still a lot cheaper than a lot of other hotels in pdx.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Max, otherwise very very dated"
Room was OK, but the hotel itself is very dated. It seems to be under new ownership, perhaps they will remodel the entire hotel. It seems like it was built in the 60's and past its life expectancy. The lobby is especially bad. I would recommend aganist booking here, since there's no telling where new management is going to go. Also, I really dislike […] hotels that charge for parking($14). A/C didn't work at all, room actually had a fan in it, so seems like the know and either don't care or it's not a priority(there's a lot of needs at this place). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A work in progress.."
This hotel was under new management during my stay, so your mileage may vary. Unlikely to change anytime soon is some of the doors were too short for the doorways, which combined with the thin walls make for awkward exchanges with neighbors. The elevators are slow enough to be measured in epochs, and both broke simultaneously during my stay; only one […] came back online. If you have small/any children, this would not be your first choice in lodging, though the warning sign for that is in the name. These alone are not deal breakers; the location is relatively convenient and the staff is both pleasant & accommodating. You'd stay for business, but not for pleasure. "Adequate, with some warnings"
Overall OK, but - We twice requested two queen beds in advance, but ended up with one king (all they had) - The hotel is labeled "Convention Center Hotel" or something like that, not "Red Lion." It thus took us a long time to find it. When I asked the front desk staff person about this, she said "I guess we're technically a Red Lion." What does this […] mean? Weird. "I'll be back!"
Firstly, location make everything work. This hotel was conveniently located near the tram lines and very easy to get to. However, I do have to gripe about the front desk staff who acted like they were disinterested in doing their work. They were very unfriendly and not knowledgeable of anything going on in the city or even the train schedule. Aren't […] locals supposed to know certain things? They attitude came off as rude. It kinda sucked too that only one elevator was working and there wasn't even a bell hop to assist with taking luggage to our room. (But I guess you can't expect too much from a 3 star hotel, right?). The room itself was spacious enough for 3 people. The bed a true king size, soft and comfy and we had enough pillows! Everything was super cozy! Only gripe about the room was the AC which was a little off and had the room feeling a little stuffy after showering. Bathroom was clean and shower had good water pressure which is always a plus. Great stay for a couple of days if you want to check out Portland. Make sure you do your homework as far as places to see or eat because the front desk staff is pretty unhelpful. Or you might be lucky enough to bump into a friendly Portlandian that is willing to help out. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room smelled like cigarette smoke, AC was turned off so only outside air circulated, fan supplied in room didn't work, couldn't get WiFi to work.Genuine Expedia guest review
Friendly staff. Location wasn't ideal for what I wanted to do in Portland but there is a Max stop and buses right around the corner. If you're a light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you because there is constant buses/trains going by. The noise didn't bother me though. Very comfortable beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Do not go here ..."
Smells like water leak inside the hotel ... rooms are small and not even close to a 3 star hotel. I should have opted for 2 star hotel instead . Previous reviews on Expedia were not justified at all. "Nice staff, but no hot water"
The staff was very nice and friendly both in the cafe and hotel. The room was as expected given the rate. The disappointment was that nobody got a hot shower in the morning as the hot water heater apparently had gone out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was in a really good location, close to everything. The room was nice and clean and had everything you could need for a hotel room. My only complaint is that the air conditioner barely worked. We had it turned to about 70 and it felt like it wasn't even on. It was a hot and humid day outside which didn't help.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleasantly surprised"
As I was on a personal trip vs. work, I was footing the bill. So I went with one of the best rates I could find in a mid range hotel. I was a little nervous and did not expect much. But, I was pretty amazed. Of course the location is great, right off the Max and very close to the river to run. But the cleanliness, professionalism and comfort were top […] notch. The rooms looked and felt more like a 4 star. I will be back and would recommend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"One of the worse hotel I have stayed at...."
I do travel a lot...and usually do not post reviews....but this was such an unpleasant experience that I wanted to share....I picked that hotel because of the location near the Oregon convention center for a trade show but would have stayed somewhere else if I had known.... 1- Do not try the hotel restaurant....breakfast was honestly the worse I have […] ever had....Stopped after two bites...and they tried to charge me twice the regular amount 2- The hotel is near a very busy street....with cars...and tramway.....VERY noisy! 3- The bathtub was all scratched up... 4- Fitness room very small....No TV (only the wall mount....)
