The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It doesn't have much character but the price for the location is fantastic. The MAX light rail is around the corner which takes you everywhere around town. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on that. If you're looking for a save and clean hotel to sleep this is […] it, but if you want fancy views, luxury rooms or to hang out in the hotel facilities, then look for another place to stay. We stayed on the 2nd floor so you had street noise. Didn't like the fee for parking. $17.00 a day. It's cheaper to park in HI then OR. I thought we paid for the hotel & everything was covered. This was the 2nd time this happened to us. I will have to rethink when we need another Hotel whether we us this type of website again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The pictures are deceiving"
So the pictures are definitely not true. The room smelled like damp cigarettes. I paid quite a bit to stay here thinking it was going to be a nice place. WRONG!!! This is actually a Red Lion Inn with a cheap 'Portland Convention Center' banner draped over the sign. Super Lame!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Walking Distance to the Moda Center"
We were attending a marriage conference at The Moda Center, so this was the perfect location. We left our car in the parking lot and walked, so it was just perfect. The best part was the very comfortable king bed, one of the most comfortable hotel beds (and pillows) we've ever slept in. Two drawbacks: only one elevator was working and it wasn't very […] quick or efficient. Also, I was disappointed that I couldn't use my AARP discount because I made the reservation with you, so it ended up costing us more than it should have for a very basic hotel. It was really more expensive than I would expect for a basic room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the price far outweighs this run down hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was clean but it was not modern. The air conditioner was very loud. Only one elevator worked and we constantly had to share it with cleaning staff or movers. We wanted an inexpensive hotel located in the city or near transit so this hotel met that requirement.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worst hotel we ever stayed at"
Old hotel with stained carpets and broken elevator. Room was ok, but need to have windows cleaned and change curtains. While we were checking in this guy was walking in with a shady looking woman that was obviously there to earn some money. That says it all! We only spend one night , thank God! Also Max train runs next to the hotel so you hear the train […] all night long. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It will be Better"
Great Location. It is just starting to get renovated. I think it was closing to remodel. I have stayed here in the past and it has always been nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"requires a lot of maintenance."
This hotel extremely needs a makeover badly, down to its original structure. It's old and hasn't been properly maintained and in sore need of a massive restructuring. I'm not surprised that it's closing to just as I spoken.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The air conditioning did not work and the pictures posted are NOT from this hotel. Not to mention it was $130.00 for one night. Parking was $14.00 for a Monday night. Ridiculous. Then the lady working the desk that evening was rude when I asked about the surrounding area (I.e. Somewhere to eat.)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Filthy Room Over priced parking"
Will not return to this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It is an old hotel and poorly maintained. During our stay, one of the two elevators was out of service. The walls were rather thin so it was difficult to sleep at night. We could hear everything going on outside the hotel and outside our room on our floor. My advice is don't stay at this hotel unless it is your only choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was very nice and very helpful, room was very clean and comfortable. Within walking distance to many different eateries, a grocery store, the Lloyd Shopping Center. 5 minutes from Union Station and about 10 minutes to Downtown Portland on the Max Light Rail.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is need of an upgrade. That said the Bed is very comfortable. Location was perfect for my needs. Only one elevator working was a disadvantage.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was ok. Nothing fancy. One of te elevators didn't work the whole time we were there. The max station and streetcar were within 2 blocks to get downtown easily. The overall hotel was stained from the walls to the carpet. Little ventilation in the rooms. Beds were comfy. Not the best view on the east side. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless […] they revamped the place. All the workers there were very nice and friendly though! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Front desk service was great. Room was old but fine. They're renovating soon.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were in Portland for a concert at the Moda Center, and this hotel is a convenient and easy walk to the venue. They are definitely overdue for some upgrades, but our room was comfortable and clean. The carpet in the hallway was horrible, but thankfully our room was much better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, tired looking property."
Room was comfortable and ok. Hotel common area looked tired and dirty especially the stained hallway carpets. The place was fine for an overnight stay but I expected better for $196 ( total including parking )Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Recently changed from a Red Lion. Beware, the metro like is very close and seemed to run at least until 11pm. Too loud. One of the two elevators was broken. Air conditioner was non existent, Hotel claims a central cooling system. Luckily we were on a corner room and opened all the windows before getting dinner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was fine. The staff was friendly. About what I was expecting for a lower budget hotel. Parking costs 14$ per night which wasn't advertised but is still a lot cheaper than a lot of other hotels in pdx.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'll be back!"
Firstly, location make everything work. This hotel was conveniently located near the tram lines and very easy to get to. However, I do have to gripe about the front desk staff who acted like they were disinterested in doing their work. They were very unfriendly and not knowledgeable of anything going on in the city or even the train schedule. Aren't […] locals supposed to know certain things? They attitude came off as rude. It kinda sucked too that only one elevator was working and there wasn't even a bell hop to assist with taking luggage to our room. (But I guess you can't expect too much from a 3 star hotel, right?). The room itself was spacious enough for 3 people. The bed a true king size, soft and comfy and we had enough pillows! Everything was super cozy! Only gripe about the room was the AC which was a little off and had the room feeling a little stuffy after showering. Bathroom was clean and shower had good water pressure which is always a plus. Great stay for a couple of days if you want to check out Portland. Make sure you do your homework as far as places to see or eat because the front desk staff is pretty unhelpful. Or you might be lucky enough to bump into a friendly Portlandian that is willing to help out. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly staff. Location wasn't ideal for what I wanted to do in Portland but there is a Max stop and buses right around the corner. If you're a light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you because there is constant buses/trains going by. The noise didn't bother me though. Very comfortable beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice staff, but no hot water"
The staff was very nice and friendly both in the cafe and hotel. The room was as expected given the rate. The disappointment was that nobody got a hot shower in the morning as the hot water heater apparently had gone out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was in a really good location, close to everything. The room was nice and clean and had everything you could need for a hotel room. My only complaint is that the air conditioner barely worked. We had it turned to about 70 and it felt like it wasn't even on. It was a hot and humid day outside which didn't help.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleasantly surprised"
As I was on a personal trip vs. work, I was footing the bill. So I went with one of the best rates I could find in a mid range hotel. I was a little nervous and did not expect much. But, I was pretty amazed. Of course the location is great, right off the Max and very close to the river to run. But the cleanliness, professionalism and comfort were top […] notch. The rooms looked and felt more like a 4 star. I will be back and would recommend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very good price but wouldn't stay again"
I was there for a show at Arlene Schnitzer concert hall- I had to taxi from the hotel by myself which I didn't know ahead of time. The staff was very friendly which was a major plus. There was no bar/restaurant open which was a negative and no air in the rooms. It was pre-set for certain temps. It is a very old hotel that needs to be updated and the […] location wasn't the best. "Earplugs as an amenity?"
I've stayed at the Red Lion before (as well as seemingly every other hotel in the convention center area), but never before on the side closest to the tracks.Everything's still acceptable with the hotel, but it would be a nice touch to provide inexpensive earplugs along with the usual room amenities which might/might not be used depending on the guests' […] sensitivity to sound. The clickety clacks increase in frequency with morning traffic, which even the thick blackout curtains and closed windows can't muffle. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If you need to stay in Portland on the cheap"
The room was relatively clean, but air quality streaming into room was poor and was laced with smoke of all kinds. Carpet cleanliness left much to be desired especially in the hall ways. One of the elevators was broken the whole time we were there and there were only two so riding up and down was crowded and less convenient than taking the stairsGenuine Expedia guest review
firstly, we had to pay for parking in the lot so count that as additional cost of $14 a night. Parking is under hotel, elevator was out of order. Hotel entrance is small and hotel is outdated. Rooms were surprisingly roomy and updated. King bed is comfortable. Our room was next to the BART track, so all night and morning you have the train. We didn't […] mind since we were tired and ready for rest. For the price of this hotel stay, we will book at a higher end hotel before ever staying here again. Service was marginal. "Tired old hotel"
Aged room & poorly furnished, not particularly cleal or dirty, just worn.Genuine Expedia guest review
This Red Lion was definitely in a great location. My husband and I booked tickets to an event in Portland near the newly named Moda Center(previously known as the Rose Garden). The walk to the event saved time and money. We were even surprised to see the Max Train station was right there so we bought all day passes and rode the train (10.00) which was […] really fun. I absentmindedly forgot an expensive yoga mat in the room. My bad. I remembered 5 hours later and called immediately. It was no where to be found. It disappeared. I can't imagine that that is a typical event for them. It would seem a little more obvious than a phone charger, but I could be wrong. I acknowledge that I forgot it, but I felt I caught […] it in enough time to have had it located and returned. The cleaning crew probably wouldn't have been off schedule yet. Oh well, lesson(s) learned. I am disappointed in myself for a lapse in attention and in the hotel staff with respect to integrity. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
One broken elevator the entire stay. No stairs other than fire escape. Very steep entrance from road causing car to bottom out frequently.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel smelled of poop in the hallway. The elevator was slow n other one broken. It just looked run down. I was super excited to stay there until I got there. Couldn't believe I paid 130.00 for a dump could of went across road to motel 6Genuine Expedia guest review
"Basic, but comfortable"
The Red Lion is nothing special; lobby and rooms are very basic and a little small. However, the room was comfortable and quiet, and it was easy to hop on public transportation or walk to downtown. If you're only using the room for a place to sleep, it is an affordable and conveniently located option.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Noisy due to car and train.good location for sightseeingGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff was fine, Hotel was fine in and of itself. The only real problem i they have a bizarre central heating/cooling pump type system they use. You have little to no control over temp in your room, if its not above 70 out they will not run ac in building,no heat unless its below 55.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Be aware that if you have the option to choose your bed size when you make your reservation - that the hotel looks at this as a REQUEST and you are not guaranteed the bed size in your confirmation email. They overbooked the hotel and bumped us to one queen bed - even though I made the reservation 3 months in advance. Also, others make the same reservation […] a week in advance and they received our two queen beds. The staff was well aware of this and were prepared to argue with us when we arrived. The room was tiny, no air conditioning (although they did provide us with a fan) and very disappointing. Even though this property is in a good location - DO NOT stay here!!!
