This hotel was clean and some of the staff was very friendly. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the cleaning staff started cleaning the rooms on our flood extremely early in the morning and woke us up. The hotel is in a very convenient spot if you are going to the Trailblazer games.Genuine Expedia guest review
Was in walking distance to the loyd center which was a very nice large mall, the tram was pretty loud but that's to be expected, no complaints about it. When finding someone smoking in hotel they took care of it upon us notifying them, all staff very friendly and polite. Restuarant is nice and has nice views, would stay again, depending on which part […] of town the next event we go to will be held. We were staying to see a band play and was in walking distance to the branx in the industrial district, drove because it was constantly raining. Everything at this hotel suited our needs. Not good as hotel will close 9/1/14 and they are running it into the ground. Air and heat system failing.Genuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel was awesome; just steps from MAX and bus stops. The staff were helpful and very accommodating. The hotel was clean and room was comfortable and adequate (nice to have a coffee pot and mini-fridge available). Just keep in mind it is an older hotel so it lacks convenience of additional outlets and personalized room temperature. […] Also the vanity is in the bathroom so of there are a couple people trying to get ready for the day it can be a bit cramped. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again in the future. "Weekend in Portland"
We stayed here to visit our son for the weekend, so we just needed a place to sleep. We were happy with our stay, the beds were the best!!! Soooo very comfortable....would like to get one just like them! Was surprised there was not a better option to control the climate in the rooms. Seems like the air conditioning and heating is controlled by the hotel […] and the only option we had was to either open a window or turn on a fan that was provided. Although we were comfortable enough. We had excellent service, in fact, I left something important in the frig after we checked out and called and they held for us to pick up later. Very good customer service! We could also hear the noise of the Max train just outside our room, didn't bother us, but some may not like the noise. All in all it was very nice stay and would stay there again in future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It went okay."
The hotel itself is in a somewhat convenient location, and the rates were good. However, this hotel is definitely a "get what you pay for" location. Some of the light switches didn't work, the fan didn't turn on, and the hair dryer was broken. There were also carpet stains everywhere in the hotel, from the hallways, to the rooms themselves. All of […] that being said, my only real problem was the parking. Originally we stayed across the river to save some money, while planning on using a cab to get back and forth. Had it not been for the $14 a night parking, we would have saved some money - but the combination of cab fare and nightly parking quickly exceeded any nightly rate that we could have gotten in downtown portland. That being said, for two nights it wasn't bad. Had we stayed any longer it wouldn't have been worth it. If you're planning on staying for only a couple of nights it's a great cheap location, otherwise if you're planning on staying for more than a couple days definitely look around before booking. "Had to ask for a space heater"
The entire hotel is controlled by one HVAC system so the temperature is set at 55F in Fall/Winter/Spring. Had to keep the curtains closed as all the windows are the old single pane variety and comprise most of one of the walls in the room. The fridge froze everything that you put in it. The only positive thing I can say about the place is that the maids […] were great. Oh, by the way, it will cost you additional money each night for the pleasure of parking in the hotel parking lot, if you can find a space! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The lobby was amazing in decor, cleanliness and location. It felt very welcoming when entering to check in. Rooms need updating but the pillows and bed are heaven!!!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Good room for the price and location to where I work. I have stayed here before and will again. Friendly front desk staff and room and bed comfortable. Great TV's in their rooms and convenient desk for work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just Another Business Trip"
I stay here when my schedule has me at the Convention Center early. The cost is low, so there isn't any anticipation of a 5 star facility. The place is like most Red Lion Hotels - in need of serious updates. I travel a lot so I see how different hotels look. This is an older building, but that doesn't mean the place needs to look like a 1990's hotel. Carpets […] need to be replaced, wall paper needs to be re-done and the bath tubs need refinishing. They also might hire better people that handle the repairs. Most of their finish work is sloppy. I can tell they don't use tape when caulking seams and they don't take the extra time to make sure it looks first class. If you watch Hotel Impossible you'll understand that just because the hotel isn't a 5 star hotel, doesn't mean it needs to be maintained like a 3 star place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel near downtown."
First the good part. The staff was very friendly and helpful in all respects. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was easy to regulate and the shower head provided a good comfortable stream of water. The biggest down side of this hotel was that it was only a block away from the electric trams that ran what seemed like all […] night. As they come down the hill and clank across the intersection they make a lot of noise, making it difficult to sleep. The hotel is also starting to look it's age and could use some updating. "Uh.... No heat??"
Comfy bed. Clean room. No heat?! Thermostat had some note about heat only being turned on during certain templates. It was very cold and the heat never came on. Room was provided with crummy little portable heater that DID NOTHING. But, dog friendly. I'm torn. Room and hotel was otherwise fine. Just... Y'know... Heat is nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worst experience of my life."
We were up on and off all night due to the MAX, I feel the noise issue should have been brought to my attention upon check in with the option to try a different room and when I reached out to front desk with this feedback the lady was rude and told me it was part of Portland she can't help. I was furious and will NEVER STAY AT A RED LION AGAIN DUE TO […] THIS. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very convenient to public transportation"
This hotel was very convenient to the MAX Light Rail, Portland's excellent public transportation system. It was also very convenient to the streetcars and buses. I had no troubles getting around the great city of Portland, Oregon (all four quadrants, NE, NW, SE, and SW). Bring your umby with you wherever you go. You will get to use it. All staff (housekeeping, […] front desk, maintenance and so forth) were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, kind and friendly. Fitness center was convenient and adequate, but a bit spare. Slept like a baby in a very comfortable bed. Hotel restaurant was convenient with wide variety of choices for breakfast. Wait Staff were first rate, i.e., effective, efficient, friendly and accommodating. When it was time to go to the airport, I just walked across the street with my luggage to the Light Rail, hopped on the Red Line and was at the airport terminal in about 25 minutes. Thanks for a pleasant and comfortable stay at the Red Lion Hotel, Portland - Convention Center. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel for the price"
WE got what we paid for and it was just fine. It's a little run down, and the hotel management can spruce it up a bit. I mean, coffee stains on the elevator doors are obvious and should be cleaned up pronto, wouldn't you think? Other than that, the staff was very helpful, the sheets were clean, the bed was very comfortable. They could lower the parking […] rates for guest in the off season. Still a good value for the money. "Small & Cold"
The rooms were small and cold. There was no independent thermostat control in the rooms, only a floor heater that was difficult to operate. We also changed rooms after the first night because of the outside noise caused by the light rail trains. While the staff was pleasant, and tried to be accommodating, the building limitations wre frustrating.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The hotel itself shows some wear, but was a good value.Genuine Expedia guest review
"close to downtown"
Good. Price for parking was way too much. But right next to light rail. Stay here if you don't have a car.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pretty tired property"
Two things to keep in mind. One, I booked this hotel under what was called "Run of the House." I travel a fair amount yet had no idea what this meant nor could I find an explanation. Well, let me provide it for you here. It means that you can't book a specific type of room, you take what they give you. This meant that the 3 of us stayed in a room with […] one king bed. Wasn't too enthused to have to wait until I arrived and got this room and they couldn't change it. Second, the facility is old. The decor/furnishings are up-to-date well enough, but the rooms do not have individual AC units. Hotel rooms get stuffy, so when I got up during the night to turn on a fan, there was no fan to turn on, and there was only a small window pane that could be opened (no more than 2'x1'). Location was great, close to things we wanted to do (and very close to a Max station so it's easy to get almost anywhere in Portland), but these are things I'd have liked to have known before I arrived. "Family & Friends time"
The location was great. The Max was right there and it took us straight to downtown. The hotel is somewhat dated but the bed was extremely comfortable after being out all day and night. The bathroom was clean and had lots of towels. The only bad thing was being able to hear the Max and the hallway was a little dingy. The employees were all courteous […] and friendly. "Vert high parking fees compared to nearby hotels"
We came here because it was close to what we needed, pet friendly, and had a slight discount. However it ended up costing a lot more because they charged $14.99 to park at the hotel for GUEST!!!!! I already paid a lot of $ for the room and $15 to park is outrages especially when their spaces were tiny. The hotel across the street only charges $5 to […] park. in the end we spent more than the room would have orginally been. In the end I wouldn't return. The hotel is not in the best shape either. There was a bunch of cops in the lobby at 3am dealing with some issues as well. Thought I'd have a better expuerence but came out very disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Not a 3 star hotel. Pretty frayed around the edges. Seen better days. Lots of homeless people hanging around out front. Must have gotten the 3 star rating because it has a bar and restaurant. Didn't try either. Would rather spend another $20 a night for better value.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Wouldn't want to stay here in the summer"
Location of hotel is good if you are attending an event at the Moda Center or Oregon Convention center and is conveniently located on the Max line. The rooms are fairly small but clean and beds are comfortable. All and all it is ok for a dated hotel in need of a remodel. My biggest gripe is there is no individual heat / ac in each room, it is a central […] system. If you are someone like me who tends to be warmer or colder then the average person you may not be comfortable. They do offer personal fans or space heaters on request. I would stay here again but only if there were no other options available in the area. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Pretty nice, good value"
The rooms were quite nice, clean, and comfy. Location was exactly where we wanted. Very close to Rose Garden and convention center. Not a great area otherwise though. Outside of the hotel and the hallways left you wondering if it was a nice place or not, but the lobby (although small) and room was quite nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location and view of the city. Right beside their light rail line that will take you right into down town. It was pretty noisy with the trains 40 feet from our room. Get a room away from the tracks and you will be fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Listen to the reviews"
Ignore the perfect photos put online, this hotel looks around 50 years old, but not in a quaint way. Our room had a rusty vent that rattled when we turned in the heater and the corner of the bathtub looked unclean and absolutely disgusting. The room we got was right next to the light rail and it was very loud every time it went by (which was every […] few minutes). When we told the front desk about it, they moved us to a room one floor up, but still near the tracks. Also, the "food credit" we got as part of the Expedia deal turned out to be 10% off the overpriced food at their restaurant. Almost as overpriced as their $14/night parking. When I parked late that night, there were two shifty people and their dog hanging out there. They didn't look like they were staying there and it made me very uneasy. I will wrap it up by saying this experience has ruined Red Lion hotels for me. It was a bad sign that on the elevator when we first got there, two fellow guests asked what I thought of the hotel and proceeded to tell us how terrible it was. Don't be deceived by the pictures. For the quality it was, you might as well stay at a Motel 6. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Worst experience ever"
This hotel not only has a very rude staff but everything from the heater to the lights to the mini fridge was broken! Over a two night stay I had 4 different maitenance men in my room for hours at a time. And after all my troubles I was overcharged 'by accident' for a 4 night stay. Never ever again will I stay in a Red lion afyer this experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect for event at convention center"
This hotel has one thing going for it - it is the perfect location for an event at the convention center. It was great for our 3 day event there. However, it is desperately in need of an update. Amazing what some new carpet and paint could do! The hallways are dingy with stained carpet, but the rooms aren't bad with very comfortable beds and pillows. […] It can also be noisy so ask for the quietest area in the hotel - not floor 5 below the restaurant. The people at the front desk are more than helpful and friendly. Perfect location if your headed to Convention Center or in our case Moda Center for Tool concert. Easy walking distance. Comfortable beds and seemed to be pretty safe parking.
