The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun - Cancun

Overall great hotel but the concierge service was really bad. These people don't really understand the concept of a concierge. Instead of accommodating our needs they just made us waste time with small things. Not that we asked for much, but they messed up the few things that we did. Advice: if you want something done, DO IT YOURSELF!

What a wonderful hotel. Every single Ritz employee we encountered was gracious, helpful, and genuinely focused on enhancing our experience. The beach is great and not nearly as crowded as some of the other resorts along that stretch of the hotel zone. The Hotel and the Christmas decorations were superb. Inside our individiual room, however, was a strange set-up - there was no normal place to put the desk, because the mini-bar was in the way (which, by the way, was not used the entire stay, although it was in the the way the whole time).

We loved the hotel and the helpful staff. Their Christmas decorations were amazing and that's coming from someone who dislikes decorating for the holidays from all the time I've had to do it. They made their 5 story stairwell center into a pop-art Christmas tree with lights that go up to stain glass ceilings and contemporary sculpture with a nod to […] the Mayan community. We also liked the large gingerbread house they built that made the lobby smell like cinnamon. We did not like our original room placement but our bellhop, Ruben, did a wonderful job of finding a room that had the view we desired. We had steak, oysters and fresh Mexican seafood and it was the best pricing I could expect for a Ritz. I don't know how they did it but the sand in the Ritz beach was whiter and finer than other hotels around there. We stayed at more expensive hotel in Cancun for a wedding and there was trash and rocks on their beach. Read more

From the food to the service - everything was exceptional. The hotel restaurants and common spaces are beautifully decorated, and the outside landscaping is beautiful. We ate most of our meals at the hotel and all were delicious. The beach is on the property and it is gorgeous. We've stayed at many hotels, and this was certainly the best.

It's the Ritz Carlton, so you would expect great service, and that you will get. The service is the best I've experienced in Cancun. We've stayed at the two Marriott Hotels, Dreams, and the Riu. The beach in this area of Cancun is the best, IMHO. The water is amazing and we swam everyday. There is no sales presentation anywhere to be found (which we […] did encounter, even at the JW Marriott). As far as negatives, the rooms are a bit dated. The furniture is typical Ritz Carlton. I like the more modern feel of the newly renovated hotels, but the Ritz is still very nice. My only real complaint is that the restaurants are so-so. There is much better around Cancun and they seem like they need to be updated. The lobby lounge is also a bit conservative and boring at night, so we ventured out often. Gustino's at the JW Marriott was our favorite restaurant nearby. I also recommend taking a day trip to Isla Majeura. That was the highlight of our trip. Rent the golf cart and spend the day there. The water on the north shore is incredible and the island has a real Mexico feel that is still very safe and caters to tourists. I would definitely repeat at the Ritz Carlton again, but might consider trying some other resorts as well. Read more

The hotel is too luxurious (old traditional parisien style) and formal for the beach experience. It is not a place to wonder around with shorts and sandals, especially not anywhere near the restaurants. Probably due to low hotel occupancy, there was too much staff all over you. The only especific complaint is that after we forgot to tip the towel gay in the beach once, we never saw him again. Excellent! We had wonderful time staying in the hotel and relaxed on the white sand beach. There is travel angency at the hotel. It is easy to book excursions to Chichen Itza, Dophine Ride, Coral Sub See.

We genuinely enjoyed our 5 days at the RC Cancun! Staff was great, service was great, room was well appointed and the view was perfect! The food is beyond pricey and not extremely impressive, but not bad by any means. Our only issue was with the smoking policy - I am severely asthmatic and smoking is allowed everywhere out doors on the hotel grounds […] and beach. So, it was difficult to enjoy the beach, pool area, outside grill/restaurant, or even our own balcony because of the cigarette and cigar smokers everywhere. We paid just as much as the smoking guests and yet felt trapped in the confines of our room (the only smoke free area) while they could enjoy all the hotel areas and amenities. It was very off-putting and the staff didn't seem that concerned when we complained about these limitations due to my health. Only one of the beach attendants (Claudia) was kind enough to set us up on the non-crowded side of the beach where she promised to try to "police the smoking" for us. Truly above and beyond! The RC should consider changing their advertising from "Smoke Free Hotel" to "Smoke Free Rooms". How hard would it be to designate just a small portion of the expansive beach as "non smoking" or the smaller pool area? Despite this set back for us - we had a great time and will likely be back with better planning for the smoke issues! Read more

This is our 3rd trip to the Ritz-Carlton Cancun. Each one has been amazing. The staff does an incredible job of delivering hospitality throughout the property. We saw several familiar faces among the staff and have gotten a chance to get to know them. Great experience!

Excellent hotel with excellent service. The ONLY issue is Ritz does NOT credit Marriott rewards points for your stay as indicated. They offered points only for incidentals which is ABSURD. Ritz is very relaxing. They dont have many hotel events like most in Cancun but its a very nice property.

I have now stayed in many hotels in Cancun. There is not much variation between each hotel. They are all too big, food is too expensive for the quality, and the rooms are all pretty much the same. What changes is the look in the front. The Ritz Carlton decoration is not compatible with the surrounding.

My 2 daughters (ages 13 and 16) and my best friend took a "girls trip" to the Ritz Cancun while my husband was climbing Machu Picchu in Peru. We had an oceanfront room on the club level. It was an amazing experience once again! I definitely would recommend the club level if it is available. The 4 of us ate breakfast there every morning, went up for […] lunch (sandwiches, fruit, salads, drinks, etc), and my friend and I had some wine every evening. It was worth the price paid for that alone, but the service is exceptional! It's nice to have food out and not have to sit and order something when you just want a quick bite. The concierge there is so willing to do anything you need. We each had devices that we wanted internet on, and the room only covered 3 devices but they gave us another code complimentary. They also recommended very good restaurants for dinner each evening. The turtles are laying their eggs now, so one evening we got to watch that and I even got to collect some of the eggs! My wife and 2 y/o had a wonderful time. The housekeeping wasn't great due to minor oversight items but one below great in your word/s. Hospitality, hospitality, hospitality was this hotel. I was trying to locate a trash can to dispose of a soda can, when I couldn't find one, I said out loud I'm just going to leave here (coffee table) cause I can't find […] a trash can. An employee heard and notice and replied, "sir, don't worry I will get, don't worry that's is why your here.". The room can get a bit uncomfortable when sun is out and you have an ocean front, but they are very nice. The overall appearance guesstimate for myself, I would say the hotel was in between 5-7 y/o. Note: we purchased a one day all inclusive to Hard Rock and breakfast was substandard, lunch Buffett horrible. I have to admit dinner at Kobe, and some Brazillian restaurant were very nice and tasty.
