"Exactly what you would expect for the RItz!"
The hotel presents itself in all of the allure and classical fashion that is expected for a Ritz. The marble floors were pristine, the room very spacious, pool area was well maintained. Workout facility was also really nice, could have used a few more pieces of weight equipment for variety, but got what i wanted with the dumbbells. Beach spot was great, could walk out into the water at least a good 30 to 40 yd before loosing my footing. There was a life guard present all times on the beach, felt safe, even from the jet skiers. We had a fantastic visit. We arrived early (9:00 AM) and the car from the hotel was waiting for us at the airport. Our driver offered us water for the ride, and we had a very pleasant ride from the airport to the Hotel. The entire place was spotless at all times. The staff was just over the top and always went above and beyond at all times to make you feel very important. They always remembered your name. You pay a little more for this hotel but the free perks you get save you money in the end. They had waiters by the pool and on the beach to make sure you have food or drink any time you wanted it. The room was huge and a lot more space than we needed which was very nice. The view from our balcony was beautiful or the ocean and the pool. The room was always cleaned and out clothes folded at all times. The rooms were quiet and you never heard other guests. The hotel has many restaurants that were just excellent. The beach was private. The chef personally came out and thanked us several times and made sure the food was to our liking. You just do not get the customer service that we experienced here at other hotels anymore. Its was customer service is all about and these people are models of service to their guests! Awful! I thought thè hotel would be better. We had a pillow top mattress. That's what it was pillows! The hotel really needed a shuttle. We rented a car but only used it going there. First time ever in Mexico, Cancun or a Ritz-Carlton. The hotel was very nice....not overly posh or stuffy. The staff was available and willing to help with any questions about the hotel, attractions, restaurants, transportation or Cancun area.. This was not our first time in a Ritz and we have to state the following: - peronnel is well trained and very friendly and helpful - the standard rooms are outdated - restaurants are very good but really pricy-breakfast costs pp. ....not good compared to other hotels there...ME was way better! - sun chairs are old […] and sometimes broken - fitness facilities are well maintained and well equipped - beach is awesome !!! *** We moved to club level after complaining about somebody vacuuming at 1:00am an people being very loud on their way back to their rooms in the middle of the night....*** - club level rooms are remodeled - club level service is outstanding - AC in upper level is unable to maintain 73F in the summer... even at night. - club level had some dressing requirements for certain events...deliberately ignored by... lets say folks being too much into themselves to care... there are very good restaurants accross the street for a reasonable price. We stayed at several 5 star resorts in Cancun and Ritz excelled in some categories but was worse in others. Wins: Service is bar none. Restaurant Fantino at Ritz provided us with the best dining experience we ever had. We ate at best restaurants in Paris, SF, Venice but Fantino really rolled out a red carpet for only $200 for two with wine. Free refreshement […] frescas on the beach and scented towels were a nice touch. The umbrella service was excellent. Location was perfect as its 5 min walk to awesome argentinian steak house Puerto Madera and the marina where they have deep sea fishing charters. I even had the hotel grill the fish I caught! Also important: good crowd. No drunks or ghetto ppl here. Go to live aqua if you want a meat market type of athmosphere. Losses. The pool area is boring and poorly decorated. Its just very average. No swim up bar or nothing like Fiesta Americana had. Maybe thats why its caller fiesta ;). Minor thing but metal keys instead of plastic cards were kind of annoying and inconvenient. "More Like a 3 star Hotel"
OVERALL: Extremely disappointing stay, especially considering this hotel is rated so high and it's suppose to be a RITZ. The entire hotel and grounds are outdated, in need of repair and maintenance. ROOMS: Room's are terrible, based on location of the south wing of the hotel, ALL the rooms fill up with smoke from the beach restaurant due to improper […] sealing of the balcony doors, at times it was getting so bad it was hard to breathe, when we mentioned the issue to the hotel staff they offered us a Febreze air freshener (I guess that's the RITZ type of treatment). Besides being filled with smoke, bathrooms had a constant sewer smell. It was impossible to take a bath and not feel sick from the smell. Although considering the smoked filled room, smell of the sewer was a refreshing break. FOOD: Hotel breakfast was completely overpriced and terrible quality. ACTIVITIES: Got nickel and dimed for everything. Even kids painting activities by the pool cost $10.00 each time. Very sad considering this is suppose to be a 5 start family friendly hotel. "Hotel like a BOSS!"
Every aspect of the Ritz was top notch. We had one on the newly renovated rooms with an ocean view and balcony. The room and bathroom both displayed luxury decor and finishes. The rooms were always well kept and attended to. Almost every employee knew your name. Having stayed at other top tier hotels around the world, I would have to say the service […] and the hospitality of the staff was above and beyond any other place. From the doormen, the beach and pool staff, front desk and housekeeping...everyone made sure your every need was met. I'd say the only negative about our stay which had nothing to do with the Ritz was (1) with their preferred travel agency company (Olympic Tours). They had incorrectly booked our tour to Tulum and Coba for another day and we unfortunately had to redesign our vacation without these tours. (2) The draw of guests. Believe me I understand the idea of paying a premium to stay at any Ritz Carlton however I am also always humble in my stays and always treat the staff and other guests with respect. I observed many "well to do" guests acting very entitled and down right rude. I observed many talking down to the staff, throwing their their towels or napkins on the floor like it was their home and letting their ugly children run around during the buffet breakfast and in the common areas.
