"I did not even check in"
Did not checking or stay. No one in reception doors locked with notice to checking on 2nd floor of adjoining property. Left standing on kerb with case until staff on break found me. I could not climb stairs to adjoining property with my case, and was not going to leave it . The staff said I did not have a booking and then after making a call said the […] would mind my case and I could come back. They were unable to find anyone to open door and safely take case. I was near tears by then and said I would not stay and would they get a taxi for me to the airport. That was what I did and arranged for a flight home !,I I would expect some compensation for such a distressing event. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Nothing went well from the beginning. This hotel is being ran by another staff. The employees at the Equus. It was a hard location to find. Was given a key to someone else room. We actually did not stay in this hotel. My husband had a stroke several years ago and he was unable to deal with the elevator on the outside of the building going up to the 32 floor where our room was. We had a fantastic view once we got up there, but requested to move to the Equus Hotel next door where the elevator was inside the building and the room […] was not so high. We had a great experience there. The Equus is owned by the same company and the staff was amazing. We stayed three weeks and enjoyed every day. We had a balcony that we enjoyed each day, fresh towels, etc. and friendly, helpful staff. The location was within walking distance for us to everything we wanted to reach and we spent quite a bit of time at the Ala Moana Park and Beach. We would recommend it to anyone with a schedule like ours. It is NOT on the beach, so if you are looking for a beach outside your hotel, this is not the one. If you like to walk, take the bus anywhere on the Island, explore like a tourist, and visit all the sites, this is a great place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Went to Honolulu to visit an old friend and do a little sight seeing, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, raining off and on the whole weekend. Still it is Hawaii so we still enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is close to the beach and shopping areas.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
One elebvator was out of service the entire stay which is a real pain in the neck. I actually walked down 21 floors before the elevator got to my floor. They need a full time elevator mechanic it seems.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I would have to say for someone who is from fancy Las Vegas and has never been to Hawaii this was a perfect getaway! I read some of the bad reviews which I never saw any of those issues. The room was very clean and the hotel staff was amazing! When I return I will be choosing this hotel again. View from our room was exceptional. The furnishing a bit old but in good condition made for a comfortable stay. "Confusing Check-In & Questionable Security"
The room itself was nice, and the view was lovely. However, the building quality, security (a fob was provided; but the front door was propped open), construction out front, and check-in process were all questionable. Check-in is not at the Tower location, and no special directions about this were provided before arrival. It might help everyone if directions […] about this process were supplied ahead of time. Check-in is upstairs (no elevator access; must leave luggage downstairs) at another location. Also, while most everything in the room appeared new, there were stains on the comforter (which I did not see until the morning, due to the way it was folded)...the bed and pillows were hard and uncomfortable. Finally, without notice, a window washer scooted - in full view, and without warning - past the 30+ story window in the morning... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We stayed at Waikiki Marina from January 02, 2013 to January 12, 2013 The hotel is in a great location, you have an ABC store right at the corner ,also McDonald's, Red Lobster and other restaurants in the vicinity. Walking distance to Waikiki beach and a couple of blocks to a huge mall that sells everything you might need. The rooms are clean and offer […] great views of the city, the rooms were cleaned everyday and new towels replenished every day. This was a pretty crappy hotel. I knew that it wasn't going to be the most beautiful hotel I had ever seen but this was way below my expectations. First this hotel is actually called equinos.... so i drove around looking for this place fir 20 mins when i finally called and was told it had a different name. Second, it was grungy and I wasn't very comfortable […] touching anything in the room. Thankfully I was only there for 1 night. FYI if you wanna park at the hotel they charge 20 bucks a day! Also, they say they have WiFi but they really don't. The only WiFi is in the lobby and the rooms have hard lines u can connect to. This was a disappointment for me because I need wifi to talk to my boyfriend who is stationed overseas... Needless to say if u just need a crashpad in the area for a night it works but I would have rather forked out 50 more bucks for the night just to feel comfortable... 1700 Ala Moana Blvd is the address for two facilities..Equis Hotel and Waikiki Towers. We had a hard time finding the "hotel" listed on our Expedia print out. We called the number for our "hotel" and the # was inactive. The information operator had no listing for the Waikiki Towers. Our GPS was telling us we had arrived at our destination and we did […] not have the other name for the hotel. We called Expedia and they were trying to connect us when we finally found it. There were some people at the desk who were complaining about their rooms and we were just happy at that point that we found a place to stay. We should have made other arrangements when we got to our room.. How bad could it be? 22 floors up with only one elevator working 38 stories in the CONDO, not HOTEL. The bed was no where near a king size bed. Super small parking spaces in the garage. Once you parked, good luck getting in and out of the car. The room old, smelly and small. Only a roof over your head if you just sleep there in the tiny bed. Tons of condo rules posted all over the common walls. The door greeter/ security guy was nice. "Worn Out Hotel"
Stay was very disappointing. Pulled in to check-in and was told I had to leave the lot of the hotel and park next door at the main hotel, which meant I had to once again circle a large block area in Waikiki. When I pulled into the "correct" parking area, I was told I could have just parked next door for the check-in. Room was SO worn I couldn't believe […] it. I paid a rate that was commensurate to the Hawaiian Prince I had stayed at the week before, so was shocked. Drapes looked like they hadn't been cleaned EVER, lamp shades were broken, clock didn't work, no soap, no conditioner, wash cloth had yellow droplets on them (I don't even want to think about what that was about), and I could go on. Was guaranteed a King bed by Expedia, but got two singles. Room was so shabby I didn't dare turn on the air conditioner for fear of the dust, so had to keep my window open all night which was not very cooling in Hawaii. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Arrived at the hotel to check in at about 4pm, it was initially a bit hard to find. I got a shuttle bus from the airport, the driver was very experienced and knowlegable. Dropped everyone off promptly and correctly, but I was dropped at the wrong hotel. As I did not have a map at the time I asked several people on the street and even other hotel consierges […] who had never heard of the hotel. When I finally found it there was nobody at reception, or the front door. Matter of fact I dont think there was a reception. I therefore waited outside for about 20 minutes until another guest came home and kindly informed me that I would have to go to the hotel next door to check in. This was nt a problem for me, however, there was nothing to specify that this is what had to be done. NO SIGN to tell a new guest where they have to for check in so I didnt understand how I was meant to know this information wthout the help of another guest. Also, slow internet. I stayed at Marina for one week. I was on the 36th floor - that was scary. I was offered the 10th floor. When I checked it out - the 36th floor was not so scary any more. On that floor I had the ocean view. I could see an ocean liner heading out to sea - wow! Inside was nicely furnished, including the kitchenette - my taste - wow! I liked that. That shimmering elevator on the side of the building made me fix my eyes and admire the numbers until the elevator finally stopped and the door finally opened on my floor. It was 'freedom time'. I was very relieved! After 2 or 3 days I began to look out at and admire the view and hope I was going to make it to the top. I did not interact much with the staff, but the few times I did, they were quite pleasant. All except for the clerk who admitted me at the concierge. It's a place I can return to again. It is also close to a major shopping centre - the Ala Moana Centre.

For a little over $100 this offers excellent value. Our room is spacious and well appointed. Free wi Fi, good aircon., cable TV, 4 stove cooktops with oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, fridge, pots and pans, basic cutlery, microwave, range hood, iron and ironing board. small but adequate ensuite, desk and table with separate chairs, very large storage space. On Ala Moana Boulevarde close to the Ali Wai canal and 1 block off the beach with some ocean views.

We found this place via the web. I wanted a condo fairly close to the beach that wouldn't cosy an arm and a leg. Although a bit run down, the room was clean and functional. We had a problem with the first room as I am terrified of heights and they moved us to a lower floor. Very accommodating and friendly staff.
"PERFECT FOR US!"
04/01/14 Mary-Lynn W Waskesiu, Saskatchewan
We enjoyed 2 great months in this recently remodeled studio suite (VRBO 272563) that was perfect for our needs. Before departing home we had received via email very detailed instructions about entry to the condo which we appreciated. It was extremely clean when we arrived & it had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. We didn't have to rent a car as we had time to take the bus & the bus stops were conveniently located to this condo. Magic Island & Ala Moana Beach Park are right across the street. If you want something quieter than Waikiki then both of these places are perfect. You can even view the weekly fireworks at Hilton Hawaiian Village from the 29th floor window. None of the suites at WMT have lanais but the window does open allowing for fresh air. This condo is conveniently located to all the shopping you need & close enough for strolling to the hustle & bustle of Waikiki. The outdoor pool area & tennis courts are lovely. The hot tub was an issue on some days. All of these amenities are kept very clean & pristine. Yes the water in the pool is cool...just the way it should be for a refreshing dip. We did not experience any difficulty with bugs (egs. cock roaches) at all. Nor was there any problem with birds. The staff are all extremely courteous & friendly & have that true Hawaiian spirit. There are 2 elevators; both are glassed in & rise on the outside of the building. It wasn't uncommon for 1 of the elevators to be out of service. And on some occasions both elevators were out of commission. This really is the only problem we encountered. Mahalo for 2 months in paradise. It was a dream to get away from a nasty Canadian winter.

Justin was very helpful , he provided what we need in our room same day when we arrived and Fely did an excellent job cleaning our room. Walking distance to the beach and all amenities, good location! The elevator was too slow and window curtain must be changed or cleaned.
"Old, crowded, & noisy room"
02/20/14 camsgram08 Jefferson, Wisconsin
When we called the owner of the room where we originally had booked our stay to find out how we check in, she told us that we could not stay there because of plumbing issues. I don't know when she planned on letting us know! She could not find a room for us at that time and we did not find out the name of it until the morning that we left our condo on the Big Island and it was owned by a friend of hers. Unfortunately, the taxi driver at the airport never heard of the place & dropped us off at the wrong building. The valet, security officer & concierge at the building where we were left at, never heard of the other place either. After calling her, she came down to the building & walked us & our luggage to our location, about a block down, having to cross the busy main street. The room was made to look nice with some furnishings and décor, but on closer inspection we found it to be old, dirty, roughly finished in some areas & not finished in other areas, half the outlets did not work, the dishes & utensils left there were filthy, and it was very crowded and extremely noisy. There was no lanai as we had booked at our first place, as it had been enclosed in the room cutting drastically on the size of the room. The lamps had old plugs from the 50's, & half didn't work. The outlets by the stove did not work nor did half of the other outlets. It was so scary & gross we ate out the entire time which defeated the point of having a kitchen available. The bathroom fan was inside the shower and we were afraid of getting shocked. Also the shower head was too low for my husband. The view was next to nothing, which was complete opposite of what we had booked initially. The 2 elevators were right by our room & extremely loud & ran until after midnight every night as there is 40 floors. It was so bad that we had to sleep with ear plugs in! We were told that this was a quieter & nicer end of Waikiki beach, the building was newer & our room was nicer. We have to disagree from what we experienced. This was very disappointing.

Staff were fairly unhelpful and cleanliness of room was very bad. Cockroaches regularly running around the room and kitchen area, we stayed on the 37th floor the view was stunning and its in a good location but bitterly disappointed how clean the room was.
"Great bang for the buck"

We found this place through Google's travel search (pretty decent), and confirmed our choice with more reviews through other travel sites. It is indeed an old building, but one would be fooled based on the chic check-in desk at The Equus Hotel. It's a bit of a weird setup, but The Equus seems to own/maintain The Marina Tower (which does not have a front desk). It was our 1 year anniversary (it's not much of a milestone), and they made it a special one by upgrading us to the 39th floor with an ocean view, just 1 floor under the penthouse. The staff at the desk were always friendly and helpful whenever we approached them. Needless to say, we were pretty floored by the gesture and was further floored by the great view. It would be a 'spectacular' view, but other hotels blocked the full view of the ocean and beaches. You do get a glimpse of Ala Mona Park/beach and the Hilton Lagoon though, which are exquisite specimens of paradise. The A/C was horrible, and is really the only investment most necessary to be upgraded. One really neat thing though, is that the room came with a freezer chest! Upon this discovery, we had to get some ice cream. The room was clean but a bit dingy. Few of the power outlets did not work, but we got by. Elevators are indeed the slowest around, and makes some of the worst noises for anyone that is afraid of heights. All in all, you get what you pay for. But in our case, we got some special accommodations! Great location - minutes from Ala Mona Mall and the Convention Center. A 10minute walk to the start of the Waikiki strip. Also right across from the Hilton, which is a fun place to visit even if you're not staying there (they don't check if you're staying, so you can pretty much use all their amenities). I'd highly recommend this place if you're on a budget and just want a place to rest your head for the night.
"Reasonably priced --- for a good reason"
09/25/13 monster00 San Francisco, California
I can only speak to my experience with the facility as a whole and not as a hotel room, since I rented a condo unit within the building that is privately owned. Pros: this place is in a great location that's within walking distance of Waikiki and the Ala Moana shopping center. For rooms on the south side of the building, there is an almost-great view of the ocean that's blocked by a few high-rises. The swimming pool is very small, but it's well-maintained. Cons: based on my discussion with other guests who did have a hotel room there, I know that their room layout was the same as ours. The window-mounted A/C unit was extremely noisy and failed to regulate the room temp well. I spent every night alternating between turning on the A/C or opening the window. The room is also very oddly shaped with a ledge about 3' from the ground that juts into the room and eliminates about 30 square feet of usable space. The 2 elevators are agonizingly slow. The fact that they have absolutely no ventilation coupled with glass walls which are fully exposed to the sun most of the day make the slow ride tortuous. In this case, you really get what you pay for. Location: 10, comfort: 3. I would not stay here again.
"Bad entry = bad maneuver..."
When I checked in the front desk was very courteous. Kudos to him. The room was upgraded to a ocean view with two beds. When I got in the room the beds were the size of my kids bunk beds, and the counter had a dead German roach on it. (Bad entry). I then killed two more as they made breaks for my fruit I bought later that day. The next day I found one more in the bathroom, and squashed him promptly. Third day in and I wake up with one in the bed with me! I ask the front desk what is the policy on checking out and just paying for my night's there, but I booked through agoda, and if I checked out early they would bill me for one more night on my card. Not cool man. Lesson learned, don't book through agora and sometimes a deal means you have to "deal" with it... Bad maneuver.
