My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary and to see Wicked at the Civic Center. It was so nice to walk out the hotel door, cross the street and the Civic Center was right there. We didn't have to fight any traffic after the play, so that was really nice! The minute we walked into the lobby, we knew it was going to be a wonderful stay! The lobby is beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. After checking us in, the lady asked if we needed information on any of the local attractions. Once we got into the room, which didn't take long (we stayed on the 18th floor and the elevators were very quick) it was beautiful. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, including the corners of the bathroom floor and the seams in the shower (which I always check). One of the best things is that the hotel had soft water. After getting out of the shower, I didn't feel like I had to put on a whole tube of lotion because my skin was so dry. That was definitely a nice change. The bed was also very comfortable. The turndown service was very nice to have and the robes were very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

I was very satisfied with my stay at the Westgate. The room was very elegant and I can't remember when I had my bed turned down and a robe and chocolate waiting for me each evening on my pillow. It was in the heart of Downtown San Diego and near all the transportation I wanted. I highly recommend the stay at Westgate and for the price I paid through hotel.com was well worth it. The only down side I had which is not a knock against the hotel is I would have preferred to have at least one area for ice. I needed ice daily and nightly and you have to call room service or house keeping for that. Other than that the customer service, cleanliness, location, cost was excellent. Again highly recommend the stay.

I visited the Westgate Hotel over the Memorial Day weekend 5/22-5/25/09 in San Diego and was thoroughly pleased with my stay and the hotel accommodations. I had never stayed at this hotel but definitely rate it with high marks. The inside decor, the customer service, room service, the access to the downtown area and tourist spots were just wonderful. My bed was turned down every night and the room left in a soothing ambiance. It was a fabulous stay. Only change I would like and it's not a knock on the hotel is to see one floor with an ice machine. You have to call room service or house keeping for a bucket of ice. Needless to say I was calling every evening. I highly recommend Westgate Hotel.

I spent quite a bit of time researching a hotel in downtown San Diego, looking for a romantic hotel to take my girlfriend to for her birthday. I wanted to be within walking distance of the Copley Symphony Hall and a nice italian restaurant. I was willing to spend a nice chunk of change but didn't want to spend all that cash and be shoehorned into a tiny room with standard hotel furniture. The Westgate was the perfect hotel for the occasion. Despite walking in to the lobby in shorts, flip flops, and t-shirts covered in climbing chalk (we had visited the rock climbing gym prior), the attendant was very curteous and eager to help. The room was spacious and the decor elegant. Attention to the details is evident in all aspects of the hotel. We ended the evening in the Plaza bar, which is small but very nice for a nightcap on a romantic evening. Dim lighting, plush seating, white linen on the tables, and a pianist quietly playing at one end of the bar completed a romantic evening. The bartender was friendly, professional, and makes one hell of a martini.

Staff was freindly and very experienced about the surrounding area. The overall location was nice, just one block from horton plaza. The only real downside I noticed was the view is not the best, my first trip there the view was of a parking garage next door and on my latest trip it was the top of a one story pizza parlor.

I loved the stay, it was a beautiful hotel. The room was spotless and comfortable. We had a great view and we were close to everything! The place is soooo beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was the way I was greeted. I walked up to the representative at the desk and she was on the phone, she ignored me. Then a family came up behind me and she hung up the phone and asked them if they needed help. I stood there speechless. Needless to say, the people behind me got served first even though I was standing there for 5 minutes while she was on the phone.

We've stayed at the Westgate Hotel before, so this was our second stay. We were there so that we could take a national exam that was being given at the San Diego Concourse (right across the street). So initially, we picked this hotel for it's location. This hotel is amazing. The architecture is beautiful, and the interiors of the rooms are comfortable and cozy. The only complaints that we have are simple. We wish the beds had pillowtop mattresses for a little added softness (a personal preference), and we wish the room included a small coffee maker (coffee is available in the main lobby in the mornings, but you need to get there quick before they run out). Other than that, the hotel is well worth the money! You won't be sorry if you choose to stay at this hotel.

Suggestions: equip the rooms with coffee makers, make the shower heads higher (I'm 5'5" and I had to duck to get under it). Get wireless internet in the rooms or supply the cable for your internet service; the only option for guests is to buy a cable ($8) or bring their own. The room itself was nice and the bed was comfortable, with good linens and good pillows.

This is a beautiful hotel, located in downtown right by the Gaslamp district, with spacious rooms. My wife was disappointed that there was no pool. Also, the TV entertainment menu wasn't working, so no movies were available. And our room was not cleaned one day. None of these were a big deal to us but maybe a striking disappointment when everything else is so nice.

The hotel was very beautiful with large rooms and great location. However, upon arrival was told there was no more parking for hotel guests but could park 2 blocks away at a public garage. I was told if I saved my parking reciept the hotel would reimburse me. Upon checkout I presented the ticket stub for parking in the public lot and was told it was the wrong receipt and the hotel would not accept it for reimbursement and I had prepaid through hotels.com so the issue of the refund would have to be taken up with hotels.com I explained it was the only receipt I was given and the parking attendant was off duty and the booth closed when I left the garage. The hotel manager was less than helpful saying there was nothing she could do. After parking my car and carrying my luggage two blocks in the heat to the hotel in downtown San Diego, I found the air conditioner in my room was not operating properly, because the thermostant needed to be replaced. It took sometime for engineering to respond as I sat waiting to shower in a hot misrable room (because of the tempetature).

I found a deal for the westage hotel, and for the money I spent it was well worth it. The lobby area is beautiful, and the restaurant is just as nice. There are some very nice paintings and tapestries throughout both. My room had a faint smell of mold, I don't think my comforter had been washed for awhile! And the waitress who served me breakfast in the first floor restaurant was incredibly rude. She was French, but I expect that in Paris, not in San Diego...
