"Great Hotel right in the middle of everything"
Enjoyed my experience, except for the $32 per night valet. If you park 0.6 miles away (a short 10 minute walk), you will only spend $15 per night at a parking lot on 6th and Market.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel with elegant charm"
Nice hotel with elegant charm, walking distance to shopping mall and gas lamp. Restaurant downstairs offered great happy hour.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent for an extended stay in San Diego"
The service was first rate, the room was very comfortable. The third floor is simply amazing. I wish I could have used it a bit. I will definitely consider staying in this hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great experience. Close to Zoo."
We enjoyed our stay here. Hotel was great and staff friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
I love this hotel. The service and the amenities are the main reason to keep coming back. Can't say enough nice thing about this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice to have close to the gaslamp district."
Not a fan of this hotel. Old and tired. $32 charge to park the car per day plus $15 per day for turn down service and who knows what.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was very nice. The fitness center is meh. The wireless internet is not very good. It is designed to look like a very old hotel even though it is not (it was built in the 1970s). Overall, it's a nice place to stay if you want to be close to Gas Lamp quarter and the bay. Not so good for business given the issues with wireless.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Right location and beautiful room! If it is in your budget it is well worth it! The staff was very helpful too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Classic Charm"
Great hotel. 5 blocks north of the convention center. Far enough away from the Gas Lamp Quarter to avoid the rowdies and noise, but within easy walking distance (two blocks west on Broadway). Train runs right behind the hotel to travel on public system. Especially enjoyed working out at 6am under skyscrapers with a lit 25 meter pool, padded running […] track and covered exercise equipment. Staff are friendly. I think tips are probably covered in the $15 per night fee. (There is no description for what this fee is used for. Hope an employee of the West Gate will comment on this?) "Touch of Versailles and Seventeenth Century Charm"
The greeting by the valet and doorman was pleasant and not rushed at all. Sometimes you get that feeling they want you out of their way, not here. Tucked away off Second and Broadway downtown San Diego this hotel gave me the sense of elegance and class the minute I walked into the lobby. Decorated with some of the same style art, chandeliers, furniture […] and carpet that you would find from the period of French monarchy you feel transformed into a guest not just a customer. Front desk staff was pleasant and helpful with early check-in and late check-out. Room was comfortable, quiet, clean and well decorated with marble bathroom and elegant window coverings. We had an excellent view with large sliding glass doors out onto a small standing balcony facing out towards the Coronado Bridge/Island. The location puts you about three blocks North of The Gas Lamp District and plenty of restaurants, clubs and entertainment. From House of Blues, Yard House and Hard Rock Café to one of my favorites La Fiesta Mexican Seafood or Fred’s Mexican Food just for fun. Whatever your taste you cannot go wrong with the service, style and location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Early Morning Noise."
Good location but too noisy in the mornings.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Westgate Hotel Dear Guest., Thank you for your feedback from your recent stay. Unfortunately we cannot control the trolley noise outside of the hotel; we will accommodate all guests if the matter is brought to our attention and correct any issues immediately. As far as the resort fee, it appears you reserved your accommodations through a source other than directly with the hotel and that source does not disclose to your all the fees and services to you prior to purchase. If travel brings you back to San Diego I would love to welcome you back to The Westgate Hotel. Please feel free to call me directly at 619-557-3619. Sincerely, Sarah Gunter Director of Operations
Went to San Diego for the weekend and a Monday night football game. First visit to the Westgate Plaza, what a great find. Location was perfect, easy walk to Gaslamp quarter, rooms were quiet and well appointed. Was instructed by my wide that this is now our regular hotel when we visit San DiegoGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hidden fee on checkout"
The place is by no means a resort and they hit u with a $20 a day resort fee on checkout, when I questioned it the staff was very unfriendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
During our stay we felt that the outdoor noises (i.e. train, street activity, construction.) made it very difficult to sleep and relax. We were charged unexpected hidden fees per day; an extra $15 'room charge' for internet usage, etc. and $32 per night for parking. 'We were not told to expect the level of noise that we encountered during late evening […] hours. The maid service was excellent, the concierge service was unprofessional, the parking attendants were well groomed and very helpful. If we needed any additional items they were delivered to the room immediately. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff were excellent and I couldn't be happier with the room! The king bed was so comfy I never wanted to get out of it! There are a lot of perks, such as room service. It was nice to have breakfast brought to me and the food was delicious.Genuine Expedia guest review
From the moment we arrived until the time we left, we received excellent service from everyone we dealt with at the Westgate Hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel decor was luxurious, the lobby had a wonderful smell as you walked through the doors and the room was so nice and clean. We ate dinner in the dining room and the food […] was fantastic. "Great overall service and amenities"
The ornate decor is... well.... ornate. The amenities and service are fantastic. Turndown service, 24 hr room service and a general feeling of being spoiled is a good thing when your road-warrior trip has gone from tiring to an absolute grind. The flowers on the breakfast tray, killer croissants, outdoor pool with lap lanes for a real swim, a semi indoor/outdoor […] fitness facility, the jazz/retro vibe and cushy robes all combine to rejuvenate the spirit. I popped out of there ready for a few more weeks on the road. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Westgate San Diego"
Fabulous hotel and staff, elegant hotel incredibly well maintained, beautiful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfort and character"
I really, really liked the Westgate. I had spent the first two days of my San Diego visit at a convention hotel (the Manchester Grand Hyatt). The Hyatt had a harbor view, huge TV, modern trendy decor, and no character whatsoever. I far preferred the Westgate and will certainly return if I ever visit San Diego again. It's hard to pin down exactly why […] I found my room so comfortable: decor (slightly old-fashioned but for that very reason welcoming), intelligent layout of the furniture and bathroom, plenty of floor and closet space. It was pleasant to spend time there. Two quibbles, one of them minor. First, at least in my room (1595), there was no electrical outlet near the desk; so you could either run your laptop on battery power or work somewhere else. Second, I'm going to echo others who complain about the $15 "facility fee." This is mandatory, and there is no excuse for not including it in the advertised room rate. Sorry, Westgate, but you need to be more honest about this. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Hotel in Gaslamp District"
We loved the décor. It was almost like a being in a fairytale. The staff was pleasant and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff was attentive and very professional. Housekeeping was best i have experienced in a long time. I was there for a conference at the westin and was glad i stayed at the westgate. "Comfortable luxurious hotel"
Westgate was a pleasant stay. Upon walking into the hotel, I immediately thought I was on he Titanic. The old school Victorian design with high ceilings and hanging chandeliers was quite charming. I was surprised when the room key was an actual key that you had to turn. I haven't seen one of those in forever. Hailing a cab or walking around from the […] hotel was quite easy as well. The hotel was close to almost everything we wanted to do which was a huge plus. We walked everywhere.. in heels! The only thing about the hotel, which is not their fault, is there was construction on the street below our window, which woke us up at 7am on a Saturday, after a long Friday night. It was irritating, but the hotel staff was gracious enough to wave their hotel fee for us. I had to ask of course, but it was nice that they were so accommodating. Also, the mini fridge is stocked with water bottles which is nice. Overall, the hotel is nice, friendly, and accommodating. "very clean and fancy hotel"
When you walk in through the doors it smells like flowers and there is someone playing the piano!!! Parking is $32 per night! You end up having to pay about $50 extra for their fees and parking!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable & Friendly"
Stayed for 6 nights for a convention (about 15-20 min walk to convention center). Staff friendly & helpful. Hotel is downtown and with my room being on the fourth floor, I was woken up nearly every night by the sound of emergency vehicle sirens. Overall condition of hotel was very elegant & appreciated the twice a day room service (they ensure you have […] plenty of bottled water & get ice, if needed). Would definitely stay there again! "Convenient for Gaslamp visitors"
This hotel conveniently located in the Gaslamp District - walking distant to all the local bars and restaurants. The hotel staff was extremely welcoming and the establishment was very upscale and beautiful. The demographic of the hotel patrons is much older than the group I came with, but we still had a great time. My only negative comment on the hotel […] was the parking - pricey valet :( aside from this aspect, my friends and I had a wonderful stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good hotel"
All in all this is an excellent hotel. It is located in downtown San Diego. The noise from the trolley, which is right outside the hotel, is bad on the side of the hotel that overlooks the tracks. They moved us after the first night and the noise level was much smaller. If you are looking for a good hotel with a convenient location this is the hotel […] for you. The room is very clean and big. "Westgate trip with sister"
Very impressed with hotel...wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel staff was very accommodating!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived very late, and the first young man we met at the reception desk was very unhelpful and an unnecessary black eye for the hotel. Luckily, we were rescued by a lovely woman who checked us in and helped us immediately. The rest of our stay was wonderful, and I will definitely highly recommend the Westgate to my colleaguesGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice & clean but victorian, nice rooftop pool"
If you like victorian style with european flair then this is the place for you. Good location but brass in the bathroom, big paintings, and just reminded me of grandma's house. Good pool along with outside workout area and track.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great stay in a perfect location."
The hotel has a lot of character since it feels very elegant. It seems understaffed and a bit worn, it needs some upkeep. It is close to everything, trolleys, buses, gaslamp, etc. The room and the hotel is lovely if you like Baroque architecture. The room is very clean and the bed is a little hard.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This is our Go-To San Diego hotel"
The location is a bonus but luxuriating at affordable prices is the prize. We have stayed many times at the Westgate and love everything about it. The only suggestion I would have is if they could somehow absorb the extra daily fee into their pricing or provide free internet, that would make the check out bill less painful. One of our trips we booked […] 9 nights for one room and 6 nights for a second room so daily addition really added up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"20th Wedding Anniversary Stay"
We were pleased to stay at the Westgate to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The staff was friendly and offered us a room with a great view of the ocean to help us celebrate the occasion. I enjoyed the antique decor and the overall atmosphere of the hotel. Our room was very comfortable, although the bed was only above average. But the size of […] the room was perfect, with much closet space inside the bathroom and a nice sized tub/shower combo. We also enjoyed the pool, hot tub and workout equipment, although I would not classify the workout area as a "fitness room". The location is also fantastic, as we found all of our shopping and dining destinations within short walking distance. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close enough to nightlife but still nice/quiet"
We had a nice two-night stay on the busy Labor Day weekend. The Hotel is just far enough outside the Gaslamp area so that it is calm and quiet. It would have been better if the Hotel would allow us to bring outside beverages to the pool area!Genuine Expedia guest review
Very elegant lobby and spacious well appointed room. Pool area has outdoor fitness equipment and a relaxing environment for downtown. "Old World Charm"
The Westgate was located nicely just a few blocks from the hectic pace of the heart of the Gaslamp. Rooms were quite large and all furnishings had a nice old world charm with amazing pieces in the lobby. Staff was friendly and prompt for all requests. "My stay was AMAZING!"
My stay was amazing. All of the staff was friendly and resourceful. They were efficient with every task; from room service to valet. I wish The Westgate Hotel was offered in more cities. "Disappointingly rude service at the front desk"
With a hotel like this, you would expect the service to be excellent across the board and you would expect not to be nickel and dimed. Now, it may just be a single front desk worker, but I had a terrible experience upon checking out. Despite the fact that hotels.com lists "Free WiFi", the lady at the front desk insisted that I pay an additional fee […] for it along with other facilities fees. Add to that, she was extremely rude about it. The best case scenario here would have been if they were upfront about all the costs at booking time. The next best case would have been at check-in time. They pulled this on me as I was checking out and had to make it to the next spot on my trip. I really did not have the time to argue with her. I will not stay at this hotel again and will recommend against it by name in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, nice room, but that's it."
We arrived around 3:00 p.m and were told our room was not ready and would take about 30 minutes. We strolled around for awhile only to return later to find out our room was still not available. (We both agreed while we were gone they gave the room to another guest. Finally, after some persuasion, we were given a room with two double beds when I'd paid […] for a king size bed. Fortunately, they were able to reassign us another room with a king. This whole process took well over an hour and they offered nothing for our trouble. Also, the hotel offered little amenities - no coffee in the lobby, no free breakfast, and there were mandatory extraccharges (hotel fee, valet parking). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
