Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

Nice and cozy place, but no A/C. Close to Union Square shops. Friendly staff. Continental breakfast and wifi on every floor.
"The Andrews Hotel, San Francisco - attentive staff"
Ideal location near Union Square and public transportation. Helpful staff made our stay truly enjoyable. Coffee/tea/icewater in lobby 24/7, free continental breakfast, Wi-fi, and a glass of wine in the evening will bring us back again for our next visit!
"A Great old hotel"
A beautiful old hotel. Nice comfy rooms. Close to everything. I highly recommend it. However, the free glass of wine was worth every penny.
"Friendly staff!"
We only stayed overnight at this hotel- arrived late and checked out the next morning. We had a day to explore the city and did not want to lug our stuff around all day. The hotel let us not only keep our rental car in the lot until 2:30 but they also kept our luggage locked up and safe. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms are small […] and the hotel faces a busy street so expect some noise. Overall, this hotel was a great value and an incredibly pleasant experience. We would return. Read more
"Andrews Hotel - outstanding value and service"
The price was right. Other hotels in the area cost twice as much. Our room did not have AC, but that was not a bid deal as we stayed in April and we just cracked the window. The staff let us check in at 10:00 AM which was very kind, The muffins were delicious and the refreshment table in the lobby was a nice touch. I would certainly stay here again […] . Read more

small family run European style hotel would highly recommend
"Andrews Hotel - old hotel in good location"
Great and helpful staff; good and convenient continental breakfast on each floor away from crowding; Unfortunately, like many older hotels, the only air conditioning available is open windows, which works well but allows in noise from busy city street.
"Quality hotel in excellent location"
This is an old building, but the staff does their very best to clean and maintain the hotel. The cleaning service and front desk service is excellent. The hotel supplies a Continental breakfast on each floor, and guests are invited for a complimentary wine each evening. We enjoyed our stay and will return. The only slight negative was that our room […] was too hot, with no way to control the temperature other than opening windows. Read more
"Very Homey"
Liked the hotel and the staff was excellent. The owner was in the lobby when we arrived and explained it was a family owned hotel and it felt like it. Both myself and my coworkers all enjoyed our stay. The water pressure in the showers were very strong and is probably my favorite part about staying here. I would highly recommend the Andrews!

"The Hotel in San Francisco"
The hotel room is too small if you are travelling 2 or more. Also, The room is not very clean.
"Simple but convinient"
The hotel is close to union square, have efficient services. The continental coffe and the small room are quite simple but enought for a budget travel
"good location, minimum comfort"
The Hotel has a great location, next to the shopping area and to the cable car station. The room is very small, the breakfast is just basic. It was ok for a quick one-night stay, but wouldn't recommend for a longer journey.

"Andrews Hotel-San Francisco"
The Andrews Hotel is the ideal hotel for a couple traveling without child. Though it's small, it's very clean, well kept & you always have clean towels. Mary who works the front desk is a sweetheart. She made my wife & I feel very welcomed. She also has great knowledge of San Francisco. The location of The Andrews is what makes it an ideal hotel. It […] in a very safe part of the city & we were walking distance from major shopping centers & restraurants in the downtown area. All major transportation is only a very, very short walk. The continental breakfast is ok but they could have a little more variety. Overall, we enjoyed our 6 day stay & will return to The Andrews on our next trip to S.F. Read more
"Not fancy, but reasonably priced"
Overall my experience at The Andrews Hotel was fine. It is a reasonable option for people who want an decent hotel in a good part of the city, and who don't want to pay an expensive rate. The best thing about this hotel was the location. You have to walk only a few minutes to get to Union Square and the public transportation on Market Street. I felt […] safe in the area. The building is older but clean, and it seemed in better condition than other small independent hotels that were in the area. On the negative side, the accommodations are very modest. My room and everything in it (bathroom, shower, TV) were very small. Also my room was dark and dreary -- there were only a few tiny windows, which all faced an alley; basically no natural sunlight. Some things were not in the greatest condition (for example, I kept on having to jiggle the lightswitch to get the bathroom lights to stay on). Read more
"Andrews Hotel"
Small. Quaint. Very much a European hotel. Thank goodness it was cool because there was no A/C. The TV was very small. Needed more plugs. I won't stay there again.

"Excellent hotel!"
Overall the Andrews Hotel reminded my husband and I of a quaint London-esque hotel: clean, comfortable, convenient location but could use a bit more up-keep in its maintenance. Breakfast is served every morning on each floor, and is quite nice, so no having all of the guests rush all at once to the same spot each morning. The only negative point I would […] have is that the hotel is in a busy neighborhood with a vibrant night scene, so if you are not used to noise, it may be a bit much. Our room faced the back parking lot, which is shared between the hotel and a couple of restaurants. Usually all was quiet by 11pm though. The hotel also has a winebar on the main floor, which may cause some noise to travel up towards the rooms at the front of the building. The location of the Andrews (Union Square) is also a great hub for getting to the rest of the city. Less than 10 minutes to the BART station and cable car routes and many amenities within walking distance, including high-end retail shopping along Market and Post streets. Read more
"The Andrews Hotel in San Fransico"
A two star rating is to nice - lack of customer service from night front desk - did not make us comfortable while trying to resolve a situation. Will never stay at this hotel and will not recommend it
"Convenient location and great service!"
Good price, great location close to everything! All the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The rooms were cute but a little on the small size. Only complaint is that the bathroom was about the size of my hall closet and the tv was like a 17 inch. Other then that I loved it! Excellent restaurant, breakfast on every floor, and loved the historical […] aspect! Read more
"The Andrews Hotel - Great Value!"
The Andrews Hotel was adorable. The room was tiny, there was only one elevator and the stairs were super steep HOWEVER it reminded me of a cute, clean and well-run European hotel. It was definitely unique and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We asked for seafood recomendations and received several with clear directions! […] The continental breakfast was limited but each floor had their own spread of pastries, fruit, coffee and juice. We didn't go out in the evening but I felt safe walking around during the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends. Read more

"Andrew Hotel - San Francisco - a pleasant surprise"
After reviewing the recommended hotels from our source - we choose Andrew for the price and was apprehensive given it was a Two Star. What we got was a classy hotel in a great location with comfortable clean beds and accomidations. Definitely will return.
"Convenient location small, dated rooms"
The Andrews is within walking distance of many sites and public transportation. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Street noise could easily be heard all night, so if you sleep lite it could be troublesome. The TV was very small and dated as well. The free DVD that the front desk had for us was difficult to view. The edges were cut off and the […] 14" screen was difficult to see. The bathroom was very tiny and for someone tall, you will have trouble sitting on the toilet without hitting your knees on the sink. The stall for the shower was very confining as well. I expected more for the price range. If you are not tall, don't mind a little noise from the street, and don't plan on watching any TV, the hotel staff will help to make your stay pleasant. Read more
"Nice room, great staff, near all transportation"
My wife and I stayed at The Andrews on a Wednesday. We planned a mid-week getaway at the last minute. Previous choices such as the Powell were booked. We flew to Oakland, took the BART, to Powell St and walked to Post the street where Andrews is located. We arrived early and left bags at front desk, got a public transportation day pass, went to Golden […] Gate Park, ate at Pier 39, walked around Fishermans Wharf, then checked in at 3pm. Desk people great, printed our boarding passes, helped with directions. There is a restaurant that is available for diner. Cozy lobby with coffee and teas, great continental breakfast on each floor (we left early but others told us it was great). The lift to upper floors is quaint. We had a king with a pair of bay windows facing the street. It was so cool and pleasant with windows open. Room had a nice bath with the very best water pressure. TV is a computer moniter, adequate. This hotel is great. It is near expensive hotels, safe (we walked at 5am). It is a bargain when you want a pleasant stay, good price andgood accomodations. When we return to San Francisco we will plan to stay at the Andrews and recommend to others. Read more
"Old World Charm"
This hotel is very convenient for sightseeing in San Francisco. The complimentary glass of wine each night was most welcome and the bar very friendly. The rooms are cosy with an old world charm and the breakfast provided on each floor was good. We enjoyed the atmosphere of this hotel which is within walking distance of the Union Square.

"I Could Not Ask For More"
WOW! After searching and searching for rooms in San Francisco, I finally decided to call Hotels.com to speak with a live operator. I told her (I wish I wrote her name down) I was looking for an old school hotel, fairly priced, and with easy access to the city. She told me about The Andrews and I could not be any happier with staying there. First of […] all, yes the room was quite small. BUT, that is what I was looking for. If you happen to want a LARGE room, this is not the place for you. I wanted a quaint old school room, and that's exactly what I got. My girlfriend also LOVED IT! We arrived at The Andrews around 10:30 AM, and check in was not until 3:00 PM. They were so helpful in holding our bags right next to the front desk. We were able to tour the city until 4:00 and got back to check in, everything went so smooth. We settled in our room and loved it from the start. There was a great picture of the Bay Bridge being built years ago hanging in our room. The front desk staff was so nice, greeting us each time we left and returned. After the first night I asked for extra towels the next morning, and they had them waiting for us when we returned. There is complimentary wine each night at 5:00 PM in the restaurant named FINO. Unfortunately we ate out in the city each night. The best part of staying at The Andrews was the main cable car route to Fishermans Wharf was only four short blocks away at Union Square! Perfect for my girlfriend and I as we did not rent a car. We stayed there for THREE AMAZING nights. I have already promised my girlfriend a return trip to San Francisco someday, I hope The Andrews is still there, as I will not even hesitate to return! Read more

Nice stay. The staff is very friendly and helpfull, the only bad thing is the size of the room, a bit crowded but overall definately reccomendable.
"Great trip"
Loved the location. Close to everything. Also enjoyed the coffee, juice and pastries on every floor each morning. Had a great meal in the restaurant.
"ok for one night only"
The hotel was in a great location, but was way over priced for what we got. I am 9 months pregnant and couldn't got in the bathroom. Both my husband and I had to use the restroom w/the for open otherwise we were smashed between the wall and the sink. We couldn't shower because it was so small (and we are not large people). There is only 1 outlet in […] the bathroom and it is over the toilet opposite the sink so doing my hair was a struggle. The tv is smaller then my laptop so we weren't able to see it well from the bed. The breakfast was just pastries, we expected more. The phone in our room was broken so we had to call the valet service from our cell phones which was a pain because we had to look up the hotel number and then be placed on hold for 10 mins. Read more
"good location"
We took the BART from SFO, the hotel was a short walk from the Powell stop. This hotel is old but quite charming. Our room was on the 3rd floor on the back side of the building. Over all not too noisy. Great location for walking around town. The rooms are small so I would not recommend this as family hotel.

"Good location...bad service and not clean"
Each day something happened. We paid for a deluxe king and they tried to give us a standard. Room was dirty but location is great. Hotel is too old...
"Great hotel, great location (small bathroom)"
The hotel is about 10 minute walk from the Powel station of Bart and the kind men let us use the cable car with our big bags for the 2 blocks up the hill to Post St. The street itself is extremely safe and open (some expensive hotels on it). Entering the reception lobby we were greeted by a friendly girl, explained we were early and wouldn't mind just […] leaving our bags, but she let us check in as the bed was ready. Taking the elevator up, we shared it with a very friendly room cleaning lady. The room was small and the bathroom smaller but clean and cosy. The bathroom door had to be open when we were dressing, but as we are a married couple that wasn't an issue. It might be for some. Room was tidied every day with fresh towels (even though we didn't request them). We didn't spend much time in the room as the weather was beautiful so the size didn't matter. The breakfast was left on each floor. Great variety of breads and sweet pastries (the sweet was my problem as I prefer savoury), butter and marmalade (1 type), fresh fruit and lovely freshly squeezed juice. Also there were hot drinks (tea, coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, herbal teas) with milk available (yay!! I was getting sick of the creamer in other places.) The bulbs on the ceiling lamp went one evening and were fixed the next day when we were out. The only air conditioning is a ceiling fan - needed even in February (it was warm - over 20C). Would definitely stay there again! Read more
"I like this "tiny but friendly" Andrews hotel"
This hotel locates in a great place, close to the convention center and many restaurants. The room is clean and the staff is very friendly. I really like their breakfast service, which is offered on every floor! The room is "tiny", yes, if you are not a person as skinny as me, you might find it difficult to turn your body in the bath room. Overall, […] I like this hotel. Read more
Excellent location and staff; was concerned about the posibility of a noisy room but was not an issues at all; the continental breakfest was convient and great.
"great location"
I liked this hotel a lot. My husband said the walls were too thin, but I didn't hear anything. If you are a sound sleeper like me, you should be fine. I really liked the free continental breakfast set up in the hallway right outside our door, since I can never get up/out early enough for breakfast! I would definitely stay again. Great price for New […] Years Eve too! Read more
"Andrews Hotel -- Great Value and Location"
Great value and location! Nice touches, such as continental breakfast served up each floor versus in the lobby, free glass of wine each evening and coffee always available. The staff appeared to be really stressed out... perhaps because of new years and whatnot.
"Favorite hotel in San Fran"
Small room organized most efficiently. Neighborhood felt very residential with great restaurants, cafes, stores, and not too many tourists (well, relative to one block further south). Service was impecable, a burnt light bulb was changed within the hour, staff most friendly, knowledgable, and helpful.
"Affordable, but small and noisy"
Affordable, great location---but very small. No place to go but your room--lobby is just a couple of chairs, so downtime at the hotel isnt really possible. Room was okay, but small and VERY NOISY. I had read other reviews about this and came prepared with earplugs. Needed them!!!! Breakfast buffet was a simple continetal affair on each hotel floor […] . Read more

The rooms are cozy but comfortable. The bathroom and shower were extremely small but this was expected as per other reviews. Overall, a good place to stay for the price and location.
"Andrews Hotel"
Excellent, would stay there again. Very charming room, breakfast was adequate and on each floor, very convenient. Staff was wonderful. Pretty good location. Room quite small for 2 people but bed was great, room very clean. Restaurant in hotel was fantastic. Definitely a 4 star.
