"Friendly staff!"
We only stayed overnight at this hotel- arrived late and checked out the next morning. We had a day to explore the city and did not want to lug our stuff around all day. The hotel let us not only keep our rental car in the lot until 2:30 but they also kept our luggage locked up and safe. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms are small […] and the hotel faces a busy street so expect some noise. Overall, this hotel was a great value and an incredibly pleasant experience. We would return. "Andrews Hotel - outstanding value and service"
The price was right. Other hotels in the area cost twice as much. Our room did not have AC, but that was not a bid deal as we stayed in April and we just cracked the window. The staff let us check in at 10:00 AM which was very kind, The muffins were delicious and the refreshment table in the lobby was a nice touch. I would certainly stay here again […] . "You get what you pay for"
The room was cramped and dirty. There were hairs all over the bathroom floor. The overall condition of the place was old and a bit seedy. There was a woman yelling in the halls after 10:30pm, which continued for about 1 hour. Before 5am, there was an older woman singing, quite loudly. I packed up and left after less than 1 night's stay. Couldn't imagine […] staying for the week. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Although the Union Square location is good, this hotel is on the fringe of the 'safe region'. We walked through some very rough areas.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Andrews Hotel - old hotel in good location"
Great and helpful staff; good and convenient continental breakfast on each floor away from crowding; Unfortunately, like many older hotels, the only air conditioning available is open windows, which works well but allows in noise from busy city street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quality hotel in excellent location"
This is an old building, but the staff does their very best to clean and maintain the hotel. The cleaning service and front desk service is excellent. The hotel supplies a Continental breakfast on each floor, and guests are invited for a complimentary wine each evening. We enjoyed our stay and will return. The only slight negative was that our room […] was too hot, with no way to control the temperature other than opening windows. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
We tried to put 2 business people on a local conference visit into a single-bed room, and that was not a good idea since the rooms are really quite small. The front desk was fairly inflexible in adapting to room changes. But in the end we were able to negotiate around their complex hotel code rules and get two single rooms for two people at a significantly […] increased price. Best to make sure that the person who books the room is the person who has the longest stay or you will get into philosophical discussions with the front desk clerk about who is in what room when. The walls are paper thin, but as long as you don't have loud neighbors, the stay is quite pleasant. So bring your earplugs just to be safe. The restaurant at the front entrance looks quite up-scale, though I regret I did not have time to have a meal there. If you book a hotel room on-site, there will be extra charges amounting to about $25 per night above the listed room price, so Expedia is definitely the way to book. "Very Homey"
Liked the hotel and the staff was excellent. The owner was in the lobby when we arrived and explained it was a family owned hotel and it felt like it. Both myself and my coworkers all enjoyed our stay. The water pressure in the showers were very strong and is probably my favorite part about staying here. I would highly recommend the Andrews!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming historical San Francisco hotel - centrally located"
We came into town for an office holiday party and did not wish to have to drive home afterwards. This hotel exceeded my expectation for a budget hotel just a few blocks from Union Square. The building pre-dates the Great Quake, with the original elevator working perfectly. Because of its age, hotel guests should have the right attitude when making comparisons. […] We found the hotel decor very charming and we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a king bed room with a bay window facing the street. The room and bathroom are small but functional, and we found it even romantic. Our rate included free internet service and free continental breakfast ready for you outside your door in the morning. Valet parking is cheaper than any overnight parking you can find in the neighborhood. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Small, charming hotel in a very convenient location"
Great hotel, just be sure to get a larger room. The small room is too small, but the other rooms are fine. Don't expect a 5 star hotel, but a very decent, older hotel with a very accommodating and friendly staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable and Helpful"
Stayed here in December 2011 for a week. A single room, small, but with lots of lamps to read by, television, bathroom with tub and shower and good lighting. Staff was helpful with how to get where and to print out boarding passes. Neighborhood is a little patchy but just a couple of blocks from Union Square. I would stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value for San Francisco"
The hotel is in a good lotcation and provides a comforatble (but not luxurious) stay in San Francisco. The room is small, but adequate and there are lots of extras that you will not get from the luxury hotels - free Wi-Fi, continental breakfast (excellent) and a free glass of wine at a near-by restaurant. If you aren't looking for luxury, this is a […] perfect solution. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Ok if you get a good deal"
This is an old hotel with some charm, but also many flaws. The staff is friendly and there's a decent Italian restaurant on the property, with complimentary wine in the evening. I'm surprised some things meet building codes, though. The scares were scary to come down, and even though I was on the second floor I preferred to use the 105 year old elevator […] to come down. The bathroom in my room was tiny (my legs extended well underneath the sink while sitting on the toilet) and was also a six-inch step up from the bedroom! I can imagine that many people have tripped going to or from the bathroom in the middle of the night. The TV was a tiny monitor, with a chair immediately adjacent to it so that you could see it and operate the controls (the remote did not work). No ESPN so I couldn't watch Monday Night Football. "Andrews Hotel-San Francisco"
The Andrews Hotel is the ideal hotel for a couple traveling without child. Though it's small, it's very clean, well kept & you always have clean towels. Mary who works the front desk is a sweetheart. She made my wife & I feel very welcomed. She also has great knowledge of San Francisco. The location of The Andrews is what makes it an ideal hotel. It […] in a very safe part of the city & we were walking distance from major shopping centers & restraurants in the downtown area. All major transportation is only a very, very short walk. The continental breakfast is ok but they could have a little more variety. Overall, we enjoyed our 6 day stay & will return to The Andrews on our next trip to S.F. "Not fancy, but reasonably priced"
Overall my experience at The Andrews Hotel was fine. It is a reasonable option for people who want an decent hotel in a good part of the city, and who don't want to pay an expensive rate. The best thing about this hotel was the location. You have to walk only a few minutes to get to Union Square and the public transportation on Market Street. I felt […] safe in the area. The building is older but clean, and it seemed in better condition than other small independent hotels that were in the area. On the negative side, the accommodations are very modest. My room and everything in it (bathroom, shower, TV) were very small. Also my room was dark and dreary -- there were only a few tiny windows, which all faced an alley; basically no natural sunlight. Some things were not in the greatest condition (for example, I kept on having to jiggle the lightswitch to get the bathroom lights to stay on). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap place, good location, friendly people"
Can't go wrong with here. Cheap, real vintage (building is restored... still has the old style elevators) and the receptionist was really helpful. The only complaint would be that I felt a little unsafe with the fire exit outside coming up to my window and there's no lock on the window. The walls are a little thin too. But I wasn't in the room all […] day to be affected. I'd definitely go there again. Had a great time. I'd ask for a room that's not having the window facing the outside fire exit :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Would be rated higher if the nighttime concierge would've even said "hello" let alone smile"
I chose this hotel b/c of the many reviews about its cleanliness despite its age, and they were all true. The room was clean (although I did pick a stem out of the comforter upon first arriving... but this is SF, after all) and the bathroom very clean despite its very aged appearance. The afternoon and weekend staff were very friendly and helpful, while […] the night guy made it feel like you were visiting a convent/morgue/church etc. rather than a comfortable place to crash after a long day. Here's a hint: When a guest (or anyone, for that matter) walks toward the elevator, try saying hi, or at least faking a smile. Still, satisfied and would stay here again if more cost-effective options weren't available. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent hotel!"
Overall the Andrews Hotel reminded my husband and I of a quaint London-esque hotel: clean, comfortable, convenient location but could use a bit more up-keep in its maintenance. Breakfast is served every morning on each floor, and is quite nice, so no having all of the guests rush all at once to the same spot each morning. The only negative point I would […] have is that the hotel is in a busy neighborhood with a vibrant night scene, so if you are not used to noise, it may be a bit much. Our room faced the back parking lot, which is shared between the hotel and a couple of restaurants. Usually all was quiet by 11pm though. The hotel also has a winebar on the main floor, which may cause some noise to travel up towards the rooms at the front of the building. The location of the Andrews (Union Square) is also a great hub for getting to the rest of the city. Less than 10 minutes to the BART station and cable car routes and many amenities within walking distance, including high-end retail shopping along Market and Post streets. Good price, great location close to everything! All the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The rooms were cute but a little on the small size. "The Andrews Hotel - Great Value!"
The Andrews Hotel was adorable. The room was tiny, there was only one elevator and the stairs were super steep HOWEVER it reminded me of a cute, clean and well-run European hotel. It was definitely unique and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We asked for seafood recomendations and received several with clear directions! […] The continental breakfast was limited but each floor had their own spread of pastries, fruit, coffee and juice. We didn't go out in the evening but I felt safe walking around during the day. "Nice hotel in heart of down town San Francisco"
Andrews is small hotel in the heart of down town San Francisco. The old house has been reconstructed to the hotel. The room is small but charming; the bathroom is rather small but clean; staff is friendly; the location is excellent. There is parking behind the hotel – 25$ for overnight parking- it is chip for San Francisco (usually 32$ and up). There […] is very nice Italian restaurant on the first floor. The hotel guests can get complimentary glass of wine there. The location is not quiet – there is noise everywhere in the downtown. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Affordable character"
The Andrews Hotel offers a really comfortable stay in a charming 1800's building. (I was intrigued by the fact that it was originally a gentleman's bath house and club.) The aged elevator is the real star of the hotel, and it was wonderful to stay in hotel with character rather than the standard layout and decor of more modern hotels. The hotel is […] only a 5 minute walk from Union square and has quick access to bus routes. The complimentary breakfasts include delectable muffins from a local bakery. The staff took note of my request for a quiet room and placed me on one of the upper floors, and were friendly and helpful with my requests for information on the area. "Andrew Hotel - San Francisco - a pleasant surprise"

"Convenient location small, dated rooms"
The Andrews is within walking distance of many sites and public transportation. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Street noise could easily be heard all night, so if you sleep lite it could be troublesome. The TV was very small and dated as well. The free DVD that the front desk had for us was difficult to view. The edges were cut off and the […] 14" screen was difficult to see. The bathroom was very tiny and for someone tall, you will have trouble sitting on the toilet without hitting your knees on the sink. The stall for the shower was very confining as well. I expected more for the price range. If you are not tall, don't mind a little noise from the street, and don't plan on watching any TV, the hotel staff will help to make your stay pleasant. "Nice room, great staff, near all transportation"
My wife and I stayed at The Andrews on a Wednesday. We planned a mid-week getaway at the last minute. Previous choices such as the Powell were booked. We flew to Oakland, took the BART, to Powell St and walked to Post the street where Andrews is located. We arrived early and left bags at front desk, got a public transportation day pass, went to Golden […] Gate Park, ate at Pier 39, walked around Fishermans Wharf, then checked in at 3pm. Desk people great, printed our boarding passes, helped with directions. There is a restaurant that is available for diner. Cozy lobby with coffee and teas, great continental breakfast on each floor (we left early but others told us it was great). The lift to upper floors is quaint. We had a king with a pair of bay windows facing the street. It was so cool and pleasant with windows open. Room had a nice bath with the very best water pressure. TV is a computer moniter, adequate. This hotel is great. It is near expensive hotels, safe (we walked at 5am). It is a bargain when you want a pleasant stay, good price andgood accomodations. When we return to San Francisco we will plan to stay at the Andrews and recommend to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"I Could Not Ask For More"
WOW! After searching and searching for rooms in San Francisco, I finally decided to call Hotels.com to speak with a live operator. I told her (I wish I wrote her name down) I was looking for an old school hotel, fairly priced, and with easy access to the city. She told me about The Andrews and I could not be any happier with staying there. First of […] all, yes the room was quite small. BUT, that is what I was looking for. If you happen to want a LARGE room, this is not the place for you. I wanted a quaint old school room, and that's exactly what I got. My girlfriend also LOVED IT! We arrived at The Andrews around 10:30 AM, and check in was not until 3:00 PM. They were so helpful in holding our bags right next to the front desk. We were able to tour the city until 4:00 and got back to check in, everything went so smooth. We settled in our room and loved it from the start. There was a great picture of the Bay Bridge being built years ago hanging in our room. The front desk staff was so nice, greeting us each time we left and returned. After the first night I asked for extra towels the next morning, and they had them waiting for us when we returned. There is complimentary wine each night at 5:00 PM in the restaurant named FINO. Unfortunately we ate out in the city each night. The best part of staying at The Andrews was the main cable car route to Fishermans Wharf was only four short blocks away at Union Square! Perfect for my girlfriend and I as we did not rent a car. We stayed there for THREE AMAZING nights. I have already promised my girlfriend a return trip to San Francisco someday, I hope The Andrews is still there, as I will not even hesitate to return! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
