We just needed a place to crash, clean, and comfortable. Driving up to the hotel the word "sketchy" came to mind, even as we checked in. But we saw a nicer looking interior lobby with the Redskins football team emblem and started to feel a little better. The advertisement states renovating when it should just shut down due to renovations. The restaurant in the hotel is closed, there is not a continental breakfast and the evening clerk did not seem aware of the functions of the hotel. The hotel is fine for one night but do not get comfortable there.

Restaurant had lousy service and grumpy manager. The hotel was undergoing construction and they started hammering at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Before booking check to see if they've completed rehabilitation of the facility.

Booked 2 rooms for a business trip to Richmond. Was appalled at the condition of the hotel. While there was construction going on and some untidiness should be expected, this was not acceptable. Filthy hallways, trash all over the place, rooms smelled awful (like stale cigarette smoke), detours to avoid construction messes were not clearly marked, etc. […] Some front desk employees were helpful, others were rude to guests (not us, but guests in front of us in line). The beds were great we slept very well. The staff was efficient and courteous. But I don't have much more positive to say. This hotel looks closed for renovation from the street and construction is underway. Breakfast was expensive but good. Near I-95 and there is some traffic noise. The hotel is utilitarian, but it had one of the better handicapped bathrooms for an above-the-knee amputee. There was plenty of room to roll around at night with my leg off. The desk was high enough and had clearance for me to work at my computer from my rollator (a common walker - transfer wheel chair combination). There are issues including odd placement […] of some light switches and a desk chair that would not adjust to increased height. The clientel was a bit noisy at 11:00 PM, but everyone seemed nice. The first room was occupied! opened the door to find people's things in it. Our second room's bathroom didn't work. The 3rd room's phones didn't work and the sink leaked all over the floor. The shower head was stuck on pummeling and hurt our backs. Front desk staff seemed incapable of the chaos.

The condition of the property was awful. The room was dirty the hallways and elevators are dirty and in disrepair. It appeared to have people living there because I saw lawn chairs and a grills on the balcony and there were groups of men on Motorcycles drinking and playing loud music in the parking lot. I was afraid to walk to my car. The bathroom floor […] and tub has MOLD in the grout and tile. The property is going thru a major renovation and scaffolding and drywall is all you see everywhere. I felt like I was in a war zone - I will NEVER stay here or at another Clarion again. I want my money back. The photos on this website are misleading. Chose Richmond because it was halfway between Jacksonville and NJ and needed an inexpensive hotel which took pets. But would stop sooner so not to go to this hotel again. Pet stains on carpet. No directions to get on interstate. The $25 pet deposit seemed higher than anyother hotel. Front desk was not as professional as a Clarion would be. Could not […] reach front desk as phone out of order but they forgot to tell us. No info re dining room serving dinner as we were trying to find some place to eat. After 2 hrs and calling around, had good hamburger dinner in diningroom. Positive was the meal was good and the diningroom mgr 2as very nice and helpful. Room was old and needed sprucing up. The actual rooms are located at a separate building. The elevator smelled terribly. The facilities definitely require major upgrades. I had the unfortunate ordeal of having to book this hotel twice in a week because of my schedule. I almost cancelled the second booking but did not have the time to do so. Although some staff are friendly, the man at the counter when I checked in was rather impatient and just pointed me to a side door to get to the other building where the room is. Spacious room and nice bathroom and shower for the price.Liked the 2 vanity set-up with one in the bath and the other at the clothes rack . Honestly, I will probably not stay here ever again. I will gladly pay a little extra to stay at the Comfort in on Broad st next time. The area around this hotel was a little sketchy, but it was nice for the distance of everything my boyfriend and I did for our getaway. Their were burn holes in the blankets on the bed and the pillows were rather small […] for a king sized bed. The bathroom was rather dated. The bathtub looked like someone tried to spruce it up with a paint job that was horrible. The counter around the sink looked like it had been pulled out and sloppy repaired. Over all this hotel needs a make over. The reviews on this website didn't really help either as they were in favor of this hotel. On a whim I took a look on yelp and other sites and their opinions are along the same lines as mine. The only good thing about this hotel is they were good about restocking the bathroom and changing the towels. The guy who checked us in wasn't very friendly at all. In addition to the how run-down this hotel is becoming, the ice machine was not working and there didn't seem to be another one on the other floors in the wing we were in. First, alot of what made this hotel a lower rating for me was not entirely in their control. First, the hotel is in a "developing or transitioning" neighborhood. It has nice houses on one side and an interstate and warehouse type buildings on the other. Also, locals (I'm assuming) use this parking lot as a meet up point. Also the hotel was a huge sprawling […] property built in probably the 70s or 80s when the doors still opened to the outside so only one wing of rooms had indoor entrances. Positives: 1. The room was clean 2. It had a fridge and a microwave 3. it had two sinks 4. It had 2 queen beds instead of doubles and three pillows on each bed 5. There was ample, free parking (which for downtown richmond is a plus) 6. It had a bar, restaurant, business center and fitness center 7. It had great water pressure 8. The comforter was washable and smelled clean instead of the old school ones 9. The price was great for the area considering we got a "special rate" on expedia for not knowing the name. 10. Free internet Negatives: 1. The hotel is very dark at night because they don't have outdoor lights and they don't turn all the lights on inside the lobby/conference room/business center areas 2. Outside room entrances making walking to your room somewhat scary 3. There is a lack of signage everywhere 4. Furniture in room had crusty stains that were not removed. One of the two phones did not work. The bath tub needs a new liner badly and the bathroom floor did not appear particularly clean. Upon arrival, we were almost scared to exit our vehicle with our young daughter, looking at all the miscellaneous people just hanging out in the hotel's parking lot. The room was ok, however the bathroom had mold growing in it, and the tub floor was gross. Good thing we were only staying one night, because I'd never give my daughter a bath in that bathtub! […] I was woken 3 times throughout the night from peoples voices outside our room. Front desk was very friendly. Room smelled like it has just be sprayed for bugs. Very strong order. When getting ready for bed, coverlet and blankets were full of stains, looked like urine stains. Sheets had little black things all over them, couldn't tell what they were. One sheet of sheets had hair in the bedding. We stripped the worse one, called […] for clean linens, and was given (4) blankets so that is what we made the bed with. If we had known the area better, we would have looked for somewhere else..
