I would like to say it was an enjoyable stay but after checking in they tell you it's going to be a $20.00 a day to park...it's gated and you have to have a room key to get thru to even park a vehicle. I don't know why they felt a need to charge such an outrageous amount. I will NEVER stay there again!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Too many problems to ignore"
No disclosure about twenty dollar/day parking add on! Also an extra nine dollar/day resort charge add on. Felt nickle & dimed. Room was not ready until 4. They took offense that we arrived at 2:30 hoping our room was ready. Odder yet, the hotel was not full. They play music throughout the resort (like a Disney resort). Did not care for that but we did […] not complain until the loud disco music on Easter morning. Don't get a room by the smaller pool unless you have small children - you will get no peace. Kids play in that area all day. Great if you have kids, but gets old for anyone hoping to relax. The air conditioner dripped onto our patio and created a large puddle outside our patio door. I placed our room trash container under the drip and dumped it out every day. Our power went out in our bathroom when the neighbor plugged a hair dryer. We asked for a rollaway bed. They just left it in the room without setting it up at all. 3 conditioner bottles, but no shampoo - had to go to the office. Nice coffee maker with packets for 6 coffees/day - but only sugar for 2??? They have a nice happy hour (albeit too early) at the main bar, but the bar next to our pool did not have a happy hour. Same hotel and food service, but yet not??? Our room had a metal door for adjoining room access. It was not soundproof at all! We could hear everything in the next room, and they were loud. Look elsewhere if you are spending money for quality and service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The pictures are a little deceiving. The hotel is a little old and dated but I had a great time. Being on a marina was awesome. Room service was quick. The workers were all very nice and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very Nice Hotel"
I was pleased with the cleanliness and amenities of my room. The wireless internet was good. The Keurig has plenty of coffee for caffeine addicts like myself. There was plenty of parking available. There is a convenient bus stop outside the hotel for trips to Mission Beach. The marina at the hotel was beautiful. The bar at the Firefly Restaurant was […] nice and I had good service. The pools looked inviting. Even though I was in San Diego for business, there is a shuttle to Seaworld. Cost of a taxi from the airport was $23. I would stay at the Dana the next time that I in town. We stayed at the room with the bay view, it's beautiful... however, they charged $20.00 for parking although they have a huge parking behind the hotel, and when I asked if there is any free parking around the hotel, the clerk said that we have to drive about 15 minutes to get a free parking. The price seems to high for the quality of the hotel. We brought […] our luggage to our car, and going to have breakfast, when we get back the room had been cleaned even early, about 9:30 a.m. so we have to check out early. Booked hotel for king room and we got their and they told us they had upgraded us to a pool view room. You would think this would be a good thing. We got there and it was two queen beds and the only room in the middle of a bunch of rooms booked by a group of college kids. Called the front desk and they said they dont guarantee bed size. "Great view of the Bay"
My husband and I really enjoyed this hotel. If you want a view of the bay, make sure you book a Bay View Suite. It is more expensive, but well worth the money. Originally we had a room with bay view. Well this room was right over the parking lot and our view was of the cars and boats docked. We upgraded when we got there and got a room looking over […] the water with a balcony. Amazing view and very quiet. Expensive, but with it for our 25 year wedding anniversary! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wish I could have stayed longer!!!"
After reading some reviews on this hotel, I was a little worried about noise and cleanliness, but my stay at The Dana was fantastic! Check-in was polite and friendly. Our room was on the second floor (so no noise from above) and overlooking the garden. Everything was spotless and clean. My son forgot his toothbrush, but a call to the front desk remedied […] that--someone was at our door in five minutes with a brand-new toothbrush! The beds were incredibly comfortable. I enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee in my room in the morning. I have nothing but positive feedback about this hotel. Would love to stay again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel looks all great online, we picked this over the Bahia and Humphreys, and we even upgraded to the room with a "view" but totally not worth it. The room with a view was there if you didn't mind overlooking the parking lot and then viewing past that...not to mention, unlike Humphreys or the Bahia, there's nothing in the area to walk to for food […] or any other convenience items. You can walk around the little marina that's there but you can also do that at many other locations in SD so in my opinion not worth it. I'd rather spend the same money or more and go somewhere else. Also the front desk called us in room shortly after our arrival stating to just call the front desk if there was anything we needed...and I did...some matches for our candles. They said that it was a smoke free facility so they did not carry items like matches or lighters...which I understand...at the same time don't call the room saying if there's ANYTHING we need to just call and ask... "Extra charge for parking"
Hotel is ok but there is an daily $20 extra charge for parking which is not specified in the website. Why is there such a charge?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
There did not appear to be any information when I booked this hotel about a $20 per day parking fee. What a bunch of crap. There was mention of a $9 daily fee for coffee and wi-fi - I guess they figured that nearly $200 a night was not enough to cover those two items. So at check out you spend another $87 above and beyond what you booked. How do they […] expect people to get to their hotel - unless they drive. No underground parking and no covered parking - just a crappy parking lot with people parking too close to you and you get to pay $20 per day for the privilege. I do not think this hotel is worth it. And for my nickel - the food is terrible. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"review of stay at dana"
My initial reservation for the hotel was a room with king bed. Upon arrival the room I was offered with a king bed room and view, but it was a handicapped room. This was not appropriate as regards the bathroom and it also took a lot of extra space from the bedroom area. Upon asking for the room change the front desk staff were very accomodating and […] we were offered a room within the newer buildings. Sadly it did come with extra cost but it was very more approriate for our needs. We enjoyed the menu selections and the food was excellent in the dining room. The pool facilites were excellent. "Used to be a great Hotel!"
Room was not ready on time. I was advised to wait at the restaurant and someone would call me on my cell when my room was ready......45 minutes later I went back to the lobby after no call and had to wait in line again....... I was able to check in at this time and went to my room to get ready for a business meeting only to find that the AC was not […] on and the remote control was locked and the AC could not be turned on. I had to call twice to get someone to the room to switch out the remote and get the AC (wall unit) running, leaving me pressed for time to get showered and to my meeting. "Great location for Mission Beach and SeaWorld"
We really enjoyed the Dana. The rooms were great, the grounds were very well maintained, the pools were fantastic and outdoor furniture was great. There is an on-site water craft rental and bike rental, which is super convenient. The only issue we had is the room keys kept erasing and we had to get new room keys almost daily, which is a huge inconvenience! "WASTE OF MONEY"
This was the most expensive hotel stay I have ever had. The standard room is overpriced. And by standard I mean, looking at a tree for a view. We also said we had 5 guests, and there was no room for our fifth person to sleep. Also, there is NOT A COMPLEMENTARY BREAKFAST. Even the rooms with a view, only view boats. Just a bunch of boats. Not a good […] view at all. And everything is overpriced.. I would never recommend this hotel. EVER. Look at another hotel right now. Don't waster any of your time on this hotel. Also, this is quite a drive away from Mission Beach. There is nothing here for you unless you have a nice boat and you ahve to be watching it all the time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was spotless and extremely comfortable. The grounds were a lush paradise next to the bay and very convenient to different areas of the city. The restaurant food was excellent, but the staff was short handed. This will be our place to stay when in San Diego.Genuine Expedia guest review
I booked a room here for my birthday, and when I checked in, they didn't give me the room I paid for. Upset, I went back to the lobby to complain because I paid a lot of money for a really nice room. They gave me another room and it was just as bad as the first one. I broke out in tears because they weren't giving me the room I paid for... Especially […] since it was my birthday. I went back to the lobby after talking on the phone with some of my friends telling me what I should do. I went into the lobby demanding I talk to a manger. They didn't let me talk to a manager, but the man at the front was able to upgrade my room to the one I originally paid for, but we didn't get this figured out until 10:30 at night, and they didn't allow me a later check out. I figured they would because I spent so much time dealing with this. It was a nightmare getting it sorted out, and I really didn't want to deal with this hassle on my birthday. But when they finally figured it out it was fine. I will not be staying at this hotel ever again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I found my room to be extremely noisy, not only from outside noise such as people walking along the sidewalk but the walls were paper thin and activity in the adjoining rooms was not conducive to sleeping. I wanted to enjoy this resort although my experience wasn't at all enjoyable. When we first checked in we were on a lower level room and the first two mornings we were working up by someone above us taking a shower - it sounded like a chain saw being used for over 20 minutes - not pleasant at 4 am. Every time I wanted to speak to someone at the front […] desk there was a line that I had to wait in for at least half an hour. There would be 3 people working at all times but they weren't very fast. One clerk ignored me standing there and helped 3 other guests while I was waiting and I had been there first. My young son spilled some pretzels on the ground that didn't get vacuumed up for 4 days. The housekeeping staff would not replace all towels or replace the coffee in our room daily, or give us fresh drinking glasses. Seems like something so small but it soured our experience. Before we checked out I very nicely told the staff about our experience and they were very unwilling to do anything for us in light of our not so good experience. Most other resorts have offered to waive the fee for our resort cost but this resort did nothing to compensate us for our unpleasant experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Dana can't be beat"
The Dana was amazing, beautiful grounds clean rooms pools fabulous views. Conveniently located to everything food shopping beaches and San Deigo attractions. They have a wonderful restaurant called the Blue Pearl with the friendliest most accomodating wait staff and manager food was great and priced well, there is a second restaurant on the property […] by the name of The Firefly, this one is not priced as, the staff is quite a bit younger and a little snooty, they were more insterested in closing early than and going home than tending to their patrons, they actually shut the door in our face at 9:20 pm on a Thursday evening when we stopped by for a late evening dinner and night cap, other than the Firefly staff, the place really can't be beat, we will return but this time will be sure we have eaten out on the town before heading back from our day excusions. "Romantic get away"
Our first room near the Tropical Pool was small and the room had a couple of maintenance issues. We requested a move to the Bay side of the hotel and although there were no rooms available that night they arraigned for us to move the next day. I have to say the move made all the difference in the world. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a fantastic […] view. The room was twice the size and well appointed. Definitely worth the slight increase in the room rate. Room service was prompt and food was good with large portions. We really enjoyed our stay and will stay there again when we return to San Diego. "2 star room for a 4 star price"
Room was rated on Expedia as 4.1 stars, we paid almost $250 for one night at what was a 2 star facility, it should've been half the price; we were very disappointed. We booked the hotel, expecting to have a nice place to stay over night before our trip to SeaWorld and while the location to the park is literally unbeatable the room itself was a big disappointment. […] It was a lot more like a motel than a hotel and the housekeeping team did a terrible job; our glasses were all dirty, the tub looked gross, they even left a roll of trash bags on our floor. The room was also in poor condition, the drawers on the dresser would constantly slide out and people would bang into them, all the hooks holding the shower curtains were all broken and falling off. Upon check in the woman at the front desk was very unpleasant, I'm not sure if the Blue Pearl eatery in their parking lot is run by the hotel itself but our waiter there was also very unpleasant. The only positive experience I had with the staff here was when I called down for check out and the girl that I spoke to then was very nice. To sum it up, the location is great if you want to visit SeaWorld but the hotel itself is definitely nothing to write home about and I can't imagine why it has such a high star rating on this page. I doubt I will ever return to this establishment and recommend folks find a better place to stay on their vacation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We were given a room in the older (1970s) section of the hotel. Very small room; very dated; very noisy. "Great value and close to beach"
The Dana is a great value providing 2 pools with hot tubs, a beautiful garden and a sand box for small children. I especially enjoyed the pool area with views of the marina. Seals swim casually along the shoreline as the sun sets. The views of the bays were relaxing and having access to rent kayaks, paddle boats, and jet skis were an added bonus. Bicycles […] are also available. Firefly is a relaxing eating environment that serves great tasting food for both adults and children. The scallops were the best I have eaten in many years. My 10 year old ate spaghetti and meatballs or mac and cheese every night. The Blue Pearl is open for breakfast daily and serves the standard breakfast fare and also some Mexican favorites. The portions are huge and allow for some leftovers that can be stored in the fridge in rooms in the 2000 building. Our 1st room had some issues and when brought to the attention of management, we were moved to an upgraded room, no questions asked. Our 2nd room had a wonderful balcony that overlooked the bay and allowed for picturesque sunsets. The 1st room did offer a retractable clothesline to hang wet swimsuits on that our 2nd room didn't have. There are vending machines around the property that offer a variety of snacks including some ice cream. Well within walking distance is a small store that offers beverages, sandwiches, and other snacks as well as fishing supplies. There is a clean, well-maintained laundry room.
