The hotel definitely could use some upgrading. The food was good. The best part was it was within walking distance of everything and the on/off bus made everything else close. We knew the hotel didn't have the best rating but we used it just to sleep. Great trip.

This is probably the worst hotel I've been to in DC. It's old, nasty and I don't believe the owner cares. Even the bed sheets had stains on them. I would discourage anyone thinking about booking at this hotel. I will never book at this hotel again.

This is the perfect hotel if you are looking for a close place so you can walk to all of the main attractions. Being only blocks from the national mall and the monuments, this hotel is in the perfect location and for a great price. The people were friendly and the restaurants in the area were great. Olley's Trolley (right behind the hotel) is a great […] lunch/dinner spot and Harriet's (part of the hotel) had wonderful breakfast! This was our second time staying here and we are going back again next year! NOTE: The rooms are somewhat small! This does not bother us as we are in the city all day and only sleep and shower in the room. The bed was comfortable and the shower was fabulous! Look, this hotel is old. And while they haven't really updated in quite a while, it's comfortable enough and in an excellent location. We were there for the Nike Women Half Marathon and having the start line outside of our door was super convenient. We could also easily walk to the mall and Chinatown. Also, there is a large metro station just up the […] street. The biggest inconvenience was parking. They do not have a lot at the hotel so we had to park about 4 blocks away at a lot that has a contract with the hotel. It was $16/night. Read more

The hotel is located right in the middle of all of DCs attractions! An easy walk to the National Mall, Verizon Center, and all museums. However, our room was disgusting. Although we didn't find signs of bed bugs, I wasn't very comfortable sleeping in the bed because of the condition of the room. The remote didn't work and the shower had two temperatures: […] burning hot or ice cold. There was still sticky goo on the wall from something being spilled by a previous occupant and there was dust and grime everywhere. It was clear that the room wasn't cleaned thoroughly for months. The window opened, which was a plus, except the bars and resturants below the hotel are extremely noisy throughout the night. Overall, I enjoyed the easy access to local attractions during my 2 night stay.. But I wouldn't go back or recommend anyone spend their money here. Read more

The room was overly hot despite turning the thermistat all the way down. Too few electrical outlets meant that one has to unplug the electric clock in order to connect a laptop and the outlets are located in very inconvenient locations.There are no standard amenities like shampoo or conditioner in the rooms--just soap and not a very serviceable grade […] at that. Despite an abundance of signs both outside the hotel (on the street) and inside the lobby that breakfast was served from 6:30 AM onwards, the two connected restaurants did not offer a full service breakfast. One just offered an uninviting buffet of limited offerings. I had to ask for a recommendation of a fully functioning breakfast serving restaurant in the area. The staff are pleasant and polite, and the price is most reasonable, but otherwise the experience reminded me of my travel in the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. Read more

When I booked this hotel I knew what to expect going into it, but if you're the owner of this hotel, wouldn't you at least TRY to improve some of the major concerns posted by past reviewers?! The hotel is old. No question. That doesn't mean that the furniture should be. The chairs in our room were stained so badly I didn't dare put my shoes on them. […] The sheets had strange stains on them & I completely discarded the top comforter for fear of the unknown! Another down side of an old hotel was the smell of greasy food all through the place! Also, I definitely recommend finding alternate parking separate from what the hotel will recommend! 5 blocks is unacceptable as far as I am concerned. The hotel is at a great location, just 1-2 blocks away from the Mall and most museums. It's also the cheapest hotel I found in the area, which was one of the most important things to me! There are a decent amount of restaurants nearby. I stayed two separate times in two different rooms--they were both clean, though there was some dust on the vents, […] and they were comfortable as a place to sleep and shower, although it was apparent they had not been renovated in some time. The hotel has free wi-fi in every room, though it was a little slow at times, and lots of TV channels. My rooms had a lovely tub, but they only provide soap and towels in the bathroom (no shampoo, etc.) but there is a CVS nearby so if you don't bring toiletries with you, you can always go purchase some. The windows did open, which was nice. I did not interact much with the staff, but they were helpful at the main desk. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a cheap, convenient place to stay. Many people entering a hotel carry a couple of bags. Thus, when I entered last week after a harrowing travel day, and the first set of doors opened automatically, that was great. We loved being so close to the National Mall and some wonderful restaurants. Hotel amenities were basic: bring your own shampoo. There was a refrigerator and electric tea kettle, tea bags, instant coffee, etc; iron, ironing board, and hairdryer in the closet. My room looked out on 12th AVE and was quiet mostly with the occassional conversation being heard, nothing unbearable! If your a light sleeper and into must have ammenities than this may not be the hotel for you. Room was functional... had new carpet and the bed was firm and water was hot with a refridge, which was nice, but that's it. I couldnt complain! Got to see the Pres.and 1st Lady because 11th AVE cross right over Penn AVE!!! 1 block and it was back to the hotel! Metro, 2 blocks straight up, with ALOTS of interesting shops and museums! White House 2 blocks over, National Mall 3 blocks if that! As a lady on my own, you always have to be vigilent, but I felt comfortable walking this neighborhood at night! I wish I could have stayed longer! Took the Madam Tussauds tour which is located 2 blocks up after I had breakfast the next day at the WAFFLE SHOP. Hotel Harrington is an older (built in 1914) hotel, that was comfortable - the bathroom was okay (very small shelf over the sink; water pressure in sink was low; no hot water in sink - though the shower had sufficient water pressure and plenty of hot water). It was quite warm for this time of year, but there is no thermostat. THere was, however, some […] kind of duct on the ceiling over the entry way, with a metal rod that came down on the wall. We figured out that it was probably for the a/c and heat. We opened it, and it was not up to par. The lower part of the window opened and had a screen, but the traffic noise with sirens blaring all night, made it difficult to sleep. It was very conveniently located to where our friend was staying, and a short walk to the Mall and other places to see, and restaurants. But I'm not sure that we would stay there again. Read more

This hotel is not very modern, or flashy. But the location and price more than make up for it. The only down side is the parking is about 2-3 BLOCKS away, and the hotel does not offer a shuttle, it would have been nice to know that before hand. Had a handy mini fridge, two queen beds and a nice corner room/view of the city, water in the shower was lava hot (if so desired); but I somehow booked a smoking room on accident - but I was able to open the windows and it was fine. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.

There is no parking other than 5 blocks away, that cost more money to park overnight than anyone else--and was told that they validated (otherwise I would have used somewhere closer and less expensive), no ice machine on the floor I was staying on, the room was in complete disrepair, we had to climb […] over the bed to get to the small amount of room left, the hall smelled like cigarettes and mold, the air conditioning in the room was insufficient, we could hear the people in the next room using the toilet at all hours of the night and there was nowhere to put our luggage. This hotel was advertised as family owned and refurbished, I saw no "family" and there was nothing refurbished about it. It was old and dingy and not clean.
