Very comfortable, clean. Service friendly. Location convenient, close to parking and subway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were very excited to stay at this hotel from the pics on the site. Once there we were immediately disgusted but the smell of smoke in the stairway that you have to walk up in order to get to the lobby since there is no elevator. Once at the lobby desk the front desk agent was combative with any question asked. Once upon receiving our room, it was […] so small that my gf and I had to literally step aside so the other person could walk by. Add that to finding hair in our bed sheets. I wish I could get My money back for this stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I would say so so. The room was much smaller. The only good thing was they upgraded our one room to two rooms for free.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location if visiting Columbia University"
My son and I were visiting Columbia, and this seemed to be the nicest hotel (within a reasonable price) for the area. The hotel is charming -- warm colors and super friendly staff -- but it lacks certain comforts like an elevator, which was okay with us.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Upper West Side Option"
Very nice hotel. Exceptional staff. The only drawbacks were that there is no elevator and no parking. Overall it was perfect for my needs in NYC.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Extremely small for BIG $$$"
Extremely small rooms, no sort of accommodations or amenities, did not acknowledge my prior request for early check-in/ late check-out, charged to store luggage while waiting for departure, no staff recommendations or tourist help. My first time to NYC, almost unpleasant based on hotel experience alone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Could do much worse."
But you could also do better. Decent place affordable in an expensive neighborhood. Their driver added tolls to my bill when that was prenegotiated. So sort of got ripped off there, watch out for that.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I don't do titles"
Exterior somewhat offputting. No elevator. Cleaning implements in the hallways. Comfortable bed. Enough room to move in - often not true in NYC. Decor marginal. Convenient to Columbia. Would use again with similar needs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Older hotel, but adequate for the need."
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the bell captains are very good and great attitude. The hotel is an older hotel, but the room was very comfortable and clean. No elevator so we walked up - really, like everyone else, we pretty much ran and scampered up - four floors to our room. I'm 58 and overweight and raced my 17-year old daughter up the […] stairs so you can, too. I'd say worth the money. About a 20 minute walk to Columbia U, and there are a lot of interesting sights and sounds in between the two so we didn't mind the walk at all. Tom's Restaurant from Seinfeld is up the street on the way to Columbia and we had a decent breakfast there. If you're looking for a modern, well-appointed, full-service Marriott type-of-deal, then you will be disappointed. If you like great service staff and a comfortable room in a great location, well, there you are. The bell captain very quickly fetched our luggage and hailed a cab the morning we left, very prompt and crisp service. Jim Cameron Stayed 8-6-14 Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great area, nice boutique hotel"
It was a nice surprise to enter the Marrakesh hotel. Up the stairs on Broadway and you find modern lobby with very nice people. Our room was another 2 flight of stairs up. We have no problem on climbing stairs. The hotels are New York size, small but will all expected amenities and remodeled, which is the best thing you can find on a hotel. Noise insulation […] is not a hotel forte, as you can hear the water flowing on the adjacent rooms and bathrooms. The location is amazing. This hotel was nothing like it claimed to be on its website. Not only that, the rooms were not clean, the hotel was difficult to find ( their lobby is on the second floor) and there are no elevators! The rooms were not even numbered in order...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't bother. Just spend the extra cash."
Way too small. Not manageable even if two people are in a double. Extra tiny. No Internet during out stay. Took two days to fix. Bugs galore. Smells. No ac just a fan. Towels smell like chemicals. Bathroom disgusting.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Columbia University Area Hotel"
You get what you pay for, but this was carrying it too far. For two mornings in the row, there was no hot water. Entry to the hotel was a long walk up a narrow stairway. All public areas of the hotel had rugs that appear to have not been cleaned in recent weeks. No elevator that I could find. Hotel advertised free internet, but it appears that it the […] wifi signal cannot reach above the second floor. Rooms were spartan but clean, but absolutely no amenities at all. As I said, you get what you pay for. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Marrakech Hotel Thank you for your comments. The Marrakech Hotel is a historic building dating back to 1908. By such, we can not install and elevator. However you might have seen our bell staff that is available 24 hours a day and will help carry any luggage or packages you might need assistance with. Since your stay, we have replaced all the hallway and stairway carpets. While we had an issue with our hot water boiler, that has been repaired and all our rooms have ample amounts of hot water. Our Wi-Fi was upgraded to include up to 10 megs of Wi-Fi speed to all our guests throughout the hotel. I hope you come visit us again when you come back to New York to see all the wonderful improvements we have been doing to the hotel.
"Fantastic location and great hotel for the prrice."
This is our second stay at this hotel and would recommend. The rooms are small but comfy and functional and the location beside the 1 train is super convenient. The downside to this stay was that the bath tap leaked the entire stay which in turn meant the water boiler constantly heated: a very loud and irritating noise to listen to all night!Genuine Expedia guest review

Great access to the subway and a nice quiet area, close to conveniences and central park. We covered lots of ground from d'town to Harlem. Great eateries, entertainment, memoriesGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good price to quality ratio"
It's Manhattan, your budget pretty much determines what your hotel will look like. This is and quaint, cozy little place that could use some renovations but really gets the job done if you are the early-bird type who doesn't want to spend too much time in your room. Super staff and great area if you want to experience the quieter side of ManhattanGenuine Expedia guest review
"Couple of days lay over"
The hotel was still undergoing renovations and not all of it was ready for guests. That said the staff were good and for NYC, location v price was fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Marrakech Hotel Hi Sonny, Thank you for your comments. It appears you must have stayed while we were replacing our hallway carpets. That has been completed and the halls and stairs have a fresh look and new plush carpet. We look forward to you staying with us again when your travels take you back to the NYC area
Fin och fräscht. Tyvärr ligger hotellet på fel sida stan, enligt mig. Men med tunnelbana funkar det bra.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Alt i alt helt ok."
Rent rom og ren seng, litt trangt, men alt i alt helt ok.
"Hotell i lugnt område"
Ingen garderob där man kunde lägga in övrigt. Då jag var ensam i rummet var det tilläckligt […] för mig men för två personer hade det blivit trångt. Å andra sidan åker man inte till New York för att vara på rummet. We were really pleasantly surprised by this hotel- for $80/night on the UWS, I was fairly certain we'd be dealing with cockroaches or something, but alas! Nothing bad. The only warning is one to be expected- our room was SSSSSmall. This happens. No biggie. But really, it was small, so be prepared. The bathroom was about the size of an airplane bathroom. To close the door you had to actually get IN the shower, which was also very small (and the water only either COLD or HOT, but that's ok. It was freezing, so I chose to burn myself:). Also, from my side of the bed, it was exactly 25" to the toilet:) No vanity or counter space, and really little light (the whole room was super dark). That being said, the bed was comfy and room was clean. We were on the 2nd floor- loud, but again, it's Manhattan so you shouldn't expect otherwise. The location was stellar- the best part. Literally, steps from the 103rd Street station, on the Red 1 line- which is great. The staff was the second best part- SO nice and helpful. Greeted us whenever we came or went. Young and friendly. We would definitely stay again. We fell in love with the UWS all over again while staying here!
"Value for money"
I stayed here in February 2014 with my partner and another couple. The hotel reception was up very steep stairs but we was greeted at the door by very friendly staff who carried our bags. Our rooms were also up quite a few set of stairs but our bags were once again carried up. The stairs were a particular problem at night when we were returning from a 12 hour day walking in the city. The rooms are basic but very clean . Bathrooms also small but showers very powerful. Beds were extremely comfy . On our 1st night I could not get to sleep due to the noise of banging pipes which was very loud however the staff were only too happy to move us to another room and did it all for us whilst we were out. No problems in our new room. We stayed in February and it was minus temperatures outside so the rooms were lovely and warm . Hotel reception was lovely and the wifi connection said only available in reception but we got it very strong in our rooms . The location of the hotel was fantastic . 2 minute walk to the subway, directly above Starbucks .There is a diner across the road called metro and it was amazing . We ate breakfast there everyday and was very cheap. Was open late at night too we ate in there about 1am one night. The staff organised a taxi for us to the airport and what arrived was a very fancy car which was nice . Visiting New York you do not plan to spend much time in your hotel room so this was a perfect place to stay and I have recommended it to many.
"Great little hotel"

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Marrakech Hotel on Broadway. Before travelling I read some mixed reviews on here so i didn't know what to expect from this hotel but it exceeded all my expectations. Please note that this is not a 5 star hotel. If you want a spacious room with fridge, great views and other amenities etc then you need to look at the expensive hotels in Downtown Manhattan. This is a typical quirky NYC hotel. Also this hotel does have A LOT of stairs so I would not recommend staying here if you have walking problems etc. Staff ... When we arrived we were greeted by the very friendly staff on the door who offered to carry our luggage to our room. The staff were great and couldn't do enough for us. Any queries or questions about NYC or the hotel were answered and the staff would always greet you with a friendly hello. Rooms ... We stayed in a double deluxe room which was basic and small but perfect for what we needed. We were out exploring the city for the majority of the day so the hotel was just used as a base. Rooms were cleaned daily with the option of privacy if you preferred not to. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and always had hot water available. There was also wi-fi readily available at the hotel which could be used in the room which was very handy for us. The hotel room was always at a great temperature. I would recommend turning on the ceiling fan on a low setting at night to circulate the heat around the room because of their size I can imagine it may become a little too hot. Location ... The best thing about the hotel is location. The 103rd street subway station was located just outside and the subway was very easy to navigate. The subway is definitely the most convenient way to travel and it's simply an 'Uptown' and 'Downtown' train on the red line that you need from the Marrakech Hotel . It would take roughly 10/15 minutes to travel to downtown Manhattan and we never had any issues. I would definitely recommend purchasing a 7 day unlimited metrocard pass which costs $31.00. You can purchase it from the ticket machine at the subway station and use it on all subway lines. We certainly got our monies worth from it! All in all we had a great time at the Marrakech. Staff, room and location were excellent and I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to New York!
"Good hotel in great location"
01/19/15 MattT219 Manchester, United Kingdom
We stayed here in January 2015 for 4 nights and loved our time in New York. We stayed in a deluxe double room which was very small but clean and adequate for 2 people. There were no wardrobes or drawers in our room which didn't bother us too much but be prepared to live out of your case. I had seen some bad reviews on the bathrooms but ours was clean and we always had hot water. If you plan on spending time in your hotel room this wouldn't be a great place to stay but we were out from 8am until past 11pm every night so it was perfect for us. The location of the hotel is the best thing about this hotel as it is right next to 103rd street subway station on the 1 line which is only a 15 minute ride from Times Square. If it wasn't for the location I would probably have given the actual hotel and room 3/5. Overall good hotel in a great location!
"A gem of a hotel"
01/13/15 bacchanalwomantt Toronto ON Canada
This hotel scores the highest points on location, price and staff, all rated equally. It's in the Columbia University 'hood in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, literally 10 paces or less from the 103rd stop on line 1 of the subway system. And if you're coming to NYC via La Guardia, the M60 drops you off at 106th Street, three short blocks way from the hotel. It is a walk up hotel with no elevator, much like your typical European hotel. Our room was adequate and clean. You could not want for anything better. You are literally close to all the major NYC attractions either walking or via the subway! The staff was outstanding - so friendly, always willing to help, high energy and always ready to offer advice on great eating places and negotiating the transit system. For all these reasons, I give Marrakesch Hotel a high-5!

Nice, clean room with the Morccan theme well executed. Small space(as are most NYC rooms) but well laid out. Excellent staff, especially Charisma at the front desk who was particularly polite, efficient, and helpful.

I stayed at the Hotel during November. What fantastic staff they have working here, they can't do enough for you. The location is perfect. You should defiantly try the Broadway deli a few blocks down. I will defiantly be returning here. Such an amazing stay!!!
"A comfortable stay"
01/11/15 Jimbobd1991 Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
Let me start by saying the people that are moaning about this establishment need to take a rain check you get what you pay for. Having stayed in 3 other hotels in New York (Milford Times Square, The Empire, The W Times Square) this was by far the cheapest and in terms for value for money is excellent. Our room wasn't the biggest but not many are in New York unless you pay for 4 star plus. The room was clean, tidy. It also serves the purpose of what any tourist would need of keeping your things in sleeping and getting clean. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and always available to help you with anything you need.
01/11/15 Tom B Victoria, Canada
My first night was grim. The bed sheets were not clean. There was a layer of dirt on everything (like construction had gone on) and the closet was at a post earthquake angle. The room was very small. I called down to explain my concerns and they offered to change my room the for the balance of my stay. The new room was much better, but still average and not enough to remove my thoughts of the night before. My kids were in a separate room which was apparently designed to be a hot yoga studio. No heat controls...very hot space. Nice people working there and they tried to correct things and I appreciated that. Only so much you can do with an old property. Not the place to stay if you have mobility issues as there are a lot of stairs and no elevator that I could see.
