"Could do much worse."
But you could also do better. Decent place affordable in an expensive neighborhood. Their driver added tolls to my bill when that was prenegotiated. So sort of got ripped off there, watch out for that.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I don't do titles"
Exterior somewhat offputting. No elevator. Cleaning implements in the hallways. Comfortable bed. Enough room to move in - often not true in NYC. Decor marginal. Convenient to Columbia. Would use again with similar needs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Older hotel, but adequate for the need."
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the bell captains are very good and great attitude. The hotel is an older hotel, but the room was very comfortable and clean. No elevator so we walked up - really, like everyone else, we pretty much ran and scampered up - four floors to our room. I'm 58 and overweight and raced my 17-year old daughter up the […] stairs so you can, too. I'd say worth the money. About a 20 minute walk to Columbia U, and there are a lot of interesting sights and sounds in between the two so we didn't mind the walk at all. Tom's Restaurant from Seinfeld is up the street on the way to Columbia and we had a decent breakfast there. If you're looking for a modern, well-appointed, full-service Marriott type-of-deal, then you will be disappointed. If you like great service staff and a comfortable room in a great location, well, there you are. The bell captain very quickly fetched our luggage and hailed a cab the morning we left, very prompt and crisp service. Jim Cameron Stayed 8-6-14 Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great area, nice boutique hotel"
It was a nice surprise to enter the Marrakesh hotel. Up the stairs on Broadway and you find modern lobby with very nice people. Our room was another 2 flight of stairs up. We have no problem on climbing stairs. The hotels are New York size, small but will all expected amenities and remodeled, which is the best thing you can find on a hotel. Noise insulation […] is not a hotel forte, as you can hear the water flowing on the adjacent rooms and bathrooms. The location is amazing. Morningside is one of NYC's best neighborhoods, and there is a substation on the corner of 103 St. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
it was ok nice room a little too small I think but we didn't need much space so it was ok the staff was nice and the hotel was very quiet I liked thatGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was nothing like it claimed to be on its website. Not only that, the rooms were not clean, the hotel was difficult to find ( their lobby is on the second floor) and there are no elevators! The rooms were not even numbered in order...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't bother. Just spend the extra cash."
Way too small. Not manageable even if two people are in a double. Extra tiny. No Internet during out stay. Took two days to fix. Bugs galore. Smells. No ac just a fan. Towels smell like chemicals. Bathroom disgusting.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Columbia University Area Hotel"
You get what you pay for, but this was carrying it too far. For two mornings in the row, there was no hot water. Entry to the hotel was a long walk up a narrow stairway. All public areas of the hotel had rugs that appear to have not been cleaned in recent weeks. No elevator that I could find. Hotel advertised free internet, but it appears that it the […] wifi signal cannot reach above the second floor. Rooms were spartan but clean, but absolutely no amenities at all. As I said, you get what you pay for. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Marrakech Hotel Thank you for your comments. The Marrakech Hotel is a historic building dating back to 1908. By such, we can not install and elevator. However you might have seen our bell staff that is available 24 hours a day and will help carry any luggage or packages you might need assistance with. Since your stay, we have replaced all the hallway and stairway carpets. While we had an issue with our hot water boiler, that has been repaired and all our rooms have ample amounts of hot water. Our Wi-Fi was upgraded to include up to 10 megs of Wi-Fi speed to all our guests throughout the hotel. I hope you come visit us again when you come back to New York to see all the wonderful improvements we have been doing to the hotel.
"worst hotel ever"
be careful when you using expedia's unnamed reservation, especially in Newyork, this is the worst hotel ever I have lived, no elevator, smallest room & bath room, not daily service, annoying noise from heater through the night, will never RECOMMEND!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A great neighborhood"
Great access to the subway and a nice quiet area, close to conveniences and central park. We covered lots of ground from d'town to Harlem. Great eateries, entertainment, memoriesGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good price to quality ratio"
It's Manhattan, your budget pretty much determines what your hotel will look like. This is and quaint, cozy little place that could use some renovations but really gets the job done if you are the early-bird type who doesn't want to spend too much time in your room. Super staff and great area if you want to experience the quieter side of ManhattanGenuine Expedia guest review
"Couple of days lay over"
The hotel was still undergoing renovations and not all of it was ready for guests. That said the staff were good and for NYC, location v price was fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Marrakech Hotel Hi Sonny, Thank you for your comments. It appears you must have stayed while we were replacing our hallway carpets. That has been completed and the halls and stairs have a fresh look and new plush carpet. We look forward to you staying with us again when your travels take you back to the NYC area
"Hotell i lugnt område"
Ingen garderob där man kunde lägga in övrigt. Då jag var ensam i rummet var det tilläckligt […] för mig men för två personer hade det blivit trångt. Å andra sidan åker man inte till New York för att vara på rummet. "Some people really do CARE"

We were booked at a sister Hotel and pawned off on the Marrakech Hotel even after booking (and paying 1 night) a year in advance. For us it was the best that could happen. The staff were very helpful and the Manager went all out getting us a refund from the other Hotel and allowing us to pay the same price. Rooms were clean and the bed was a "DREAM". The only minus was maybe the very small clothes closet but, hey ist New York!

We stayed here early December 2014, the hotel was very clean and the staff where very friendly and helped us with a number of things from booking taxis to trips out around the city!! The rooms where small but very clean but what more do you want apart from a clean room to sleep and wash in!! The location is a little way out but with a subway station right outside it was no problem at all access to anywhere in the city was quick and easy. We got off the subway early on our last night and walked from 96th back to 103rd where the hotel is and we wish we had explored more near the hotel to as there was some nice looking shops and places to eat we missed out on!! Overall we was very pleased with our hotel and would recommend to most, the only people who may struggle is anybody with mobility problems or the elderly as there are no lifts and a a few stairs but the staff are always there to help with everything and like I said before very friendly.
"New York, New York"

Ok, so please bear in mind that Broadway runs the length of Manhattan when booking this hotel. The hotel is located on 103rd Street which is a 15 min subway ride away from Downtown. However, I can highly recommend this lovely, little hotel. The district in which the Marrakech Hotel is situated is lively, young and trendy. There are some fantastic bars and places to eat nearby. It is quiet and away from the craziness that is Downtown. Great area. The hotel itself is worth the stay. Our room was clean, comfortable and the decor was cool. There is free wifi throughout the building, a nice bar area for drinks. The staff are very friendly and accommodating - they organised our airport transfer and were always quick to help with our luggage - there was always a friendly welcoming when we returned each day. Have fun!
"5 stars for VFM"

Rated on value for money you can't go wrong. Came as part of a lastminutedotcom deal, and for a 2 (or maybe 3) star hotel I doubt you can find better. We stayed 6 nights. Room was a good size, bed was comfy, WiFi was free. Subway on the #1 line is 50 paces, and the hotel sits over a starbucks so no problem with getting a coffee, even if there are no facilities in the room. Staff were helpful, and though perhaps a little worn, the room was clean and well serviced. Agree that the shower was a little temperamental in temperature, but always plenty of hot water. It deserves 5 stars for what it is - not a 5 start hotel, but a good, honest value for money place to stop in a convenient location in the middle of upper west side (Midtown is a half dozen stops downtown on the subway). Happy to recommend.
"A week at the Marrakech"

We have just returned from a week at the Marrakech, and it was fabulous. It's not the fanciest hotel but at the end of the day, you haven't paid for the fanciest hotwl. rooms were bigger than what we expected, the bathroom was fine but the shower can be a bit temperamental but a few minutes and its sorted. I can't believe that people have complained about no fridge or mini bar, you have gone to a three star hotel, what did you expect!? If you want those type of services, pay more for a 4 or 5 star hotel! The staff were particularly helpful, always greeted us when we were leaving or coming back. One man in particular was very helpful when trying to arrange a transfer to the airport, we are sorry but we didn't catch his name. Staff are willing to carry bags and go above and beyond to help! Location was ideal, a few steps from a subway station that took you less than 15 mins into the heart of the city. Nice area and not once did we feel unsafe in the neighbourhood or anywhere in the city. Definitely check out the bar they have as they have a little electronic map that tells you about places of interest, and again the staff were more than happy to point out how to get places. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return if we come back, which I'm sure we would as we got engaged in the city! Happy holidays to all the staff there and thank you.
"Staff very friendly"
I have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Marrakech hotel. The staff there were excellent they were very helpful and extremely friendly do not have a bad word 2 say about them. The rooms were ok abit on the small side but we was hardly in the room. Location was good soon as you step foot out of hotel the subway is there and is the easiest way or getting around the City! I would defiantly recommend this hotel and will defiantly be returning. Lisa x
"Great little base."
Spent 5 nights here recently and must say I was really happy with the hotel. It's location is great, a short subway ride down to the main attractions like Times Square or 34th Street for shopping. Bed was nice and comfy after a long days walking, I was worried about the stairs people complained about in other reviews, the building has no more than 4 flights of stairs so it's nothing. My only gripe would be the lack of fridge or ice machine in hotel. But enough stores nearby to get drinks.
"Maybe I am fussy!"
11/27/14 Ann H
About the only good things I can say about this hotel are that the wifi was free, and that it is just two steps from the NY subway! I thought that the place was dirty and drab, everything was grubby and badly worn. The rooms were extremely small and when I sat on the toilet, my knees touched the wall opposite - and I am not tall! There were no basic facilities at all (tea/coffee making facilities or basic meals such as breakfast) for a hotel costing USD 200 a night! My first night, I was put in a room right at the top of the building (no lifts/elevators) which was freezing cold (no heating), and woke up to no hot water (cold shower in the middle of winter). I was moved to another room. The only benefit it had over the first one was that it had a radiator in it! I would not recommend it and its write up should be reviewed!
"Great little hotel "
This hotel was really good. The rooms are small but ore than adequate for a short stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is on a good location right outside the metro station. There's a Starbucks right underneath too which is great. Be warned there's a few stairs to get to the actual reception area so it can be a bit tiring after a day of walking round the city. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
"Small, loaction. "
11/21/14 Ben N
Great location right next to the 103st station. The time we were there they had the stations from 96st terminated which is not the hotels fault. The rooms are quite small and pokey. The heating radiator system is very noisey and is on at the most random times. At random times there would be knocks on the radiator as if some one was hitting it from down stairs. The walls a paper thing. We could even hear the couple next door getting very frendly. Multiple times. rooms also dont have a fridge or iron or ironing board. Saying that the service is great. We ask for an iron and board which they gave. The bell boys would take your bags to your room up a few flights of stairs. Make sure you tip them. Maids or ok. Sometimes forgetting towels. Free wifi but terrible speeds and cut outs. Tv reception is mising a few channels with a few fuzzy ones as well. 2 out of 5.
