The hotel is being remodeled, so you'll find a few loose ends, but at a reduced price it's a bargain. This was my second two week stay in the past 6 months. The hotel is comfortably modern and conveniently located. It's nice to have a Starbucks, Subway, and gas station, on the adjacent property. With a brief stroll you're in the heart of La Jolla Shores which is the best beach town in SoCal. You can walk to downtown La Jolla in 15 minutes including a trail hike along scenic cliffs. Top floor has a great bar and restaurant.

The newly renovated room was absolutely gorgeous!!! Very modern, and I loved the shower! I had a king with an ocean view. It was well worth what I thought was a very reasonable price. The view was very nice as well. It was just a short walk to La Jolla shores and some great shops. There was also a grocery store near by and a Starbucks. Although I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, the menu looked great. I would definitely recommend this place.

Nearly all of the hotel was under construction. Our room was the only room that was inhabitable on our floor, and when asked to be relocated we were told that all of the other floors were in the same condition. We were woken up by construction at 7:30 am, the elevator was deconstructed and there were construction workers everywhere. We barely had hot water. This hotel really should not be open in the condition it is in. When we complained about the conditions of the hotel, the hotel staff was unreseptive to our complaints. Do not patronize this hotel, they do not seem to be concerned at all with their guests' experience or customer service.

The Hotel La Jolla at the Shores was under construction when I arrived, hence the excellent price. The staff was extremely accommodating and courteous and placed me in a room that was far from the construction and I was basically unaffected by it. There computer systems are out of date which can lead to some difficulty with reservations, but once checked in, the rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. Additionally, the hotel is a short jog from the beach, which is nice.

The positives: 1. There was a great guitarist playing Latin guitar in the hotel restaurant (Clay's). 2. They have a nice workout room. 3. The rooms are large. The negatives: 1. Our room was not that clean. The bathroom walls had some questionable brown nature stuck to them. 2. There was construction going on during our stay. We understand the hotel is trying to upgrade the look of their rooms, but they don't need to do this at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. 3. Clay's (the hotel restaurant) is open until 3:00 p.m., at which time they close to prep for dinner service. We arrived at 2:50 p.m. and was told the restaurant was closed. 4. The morning we left, we looked forward to a hot shower. This was not possible as there was no hot water. None. My husband opted to not shower at all rather than have an icy cold shower. 5. The hotel's idea of a "garden view" was the parking lot with some palm trees around the perimeter.

The hotel is in the middle of a major renovation. Construction is 9-5, Monday through Saturday. When finished, it will be very contemporary for the price and location. We stayed in an older room and were very pleased. The rooms are large with sitting chairs and ottomans, a desk, and king size bed. Plenty of room to move around--not your standard small hotel room. The bathroom lacks size, but is functional. From the ocean view room the balcony provides a wall of windows that allows you to see the Pacific several blocks away. Hotel has very easy access to freeway, beaches, and Torrey Pines. The daily parking charge should be eliminated, because parking in afternoon and at night is full due to the restaraunt on the top floor of the hotel sharing parking with the hotel guests in an already small parking lot.

We would also have to agree with others that the front desk service is pretty abyssmal and surly to boot. But, the room was nice, the maintenance and cleaning staff friendly and effective. So, still recommended for a nice room, if you are self-sufficient and do not require lots of (or any...) support from the front desk.

If you're into parties - this is the spot - if you want quiet and a good night's rest - then book somewhere else. The noise from the 11th floor can be heard from the 1st floor - it is a constant boom-boom-boom spewing from the club's sound system. This combined with the street cars below as well as sirens from a nearby Firehouse created the atmosphere of being at Grand Central Station during peak hours. So, stay here if you don't like to sleep. The only thing good about this hotel is that it is pet-frendly. Our dog had a great time at the hotel - hmmm, maybe she should have paid the bill!!
