This was a last minute booking and I have to say, you get what you pay for. Lesson well learned! The staff were great but the hotel itself was not in the best location. It took us a long time to find the hotel and the exit was easy to miss. We got in late so we had to check-in through a window outside the hotel office and that was not a comfortable […] feel. It's an aging hotel, but so is everything else near Ft. Sam Houston and SAMMC. The rooms are large for the price, and cleanliness is on par with any mid-level chain hotel. Stayed during the San Antonio livestock show the room was clean the condition of the hotel was acceptable did have some age to it. The continental breakfast was full of food. Getting to the hotel was a little trick but close to the a and t center. We will be staying their next year.

All of the staff (with the exception of 1) were very friendly and helpful. We went to my son's graduation at Fort Sam Houston and stayed for 3 nights. You can tell the hotel is old, but for me the staff and comfort of the room are what's important. I would definitely stay there again.

Overall the stay was pleasant. The room and bed was clean and comfortable. The hotel is on a one way street off the freeway which makes it very difficult to get to, especially during traffic hours.

Not being able to check-in until 3 pm was a huge inconvienence. Ended up paying an extra 20 to check-in earlier. Ultimately paying as much as a nicer hotel. So much for value. the hotel was not as represented on the website. It was a very old hotel. It was clean but worn down. the rooms smelled. I had a suite and there was plenty of room. The set up was quite nice. For what I paid I expected more, however San Antonio hotels are a little more expensive than some areas. the staff was very helpful.

From the minute we walked in we were very impressed! The clerks were friendly, informative and willing to help. It was close to two of Fort Sam's gates and the drive to get downtown was just as convenient. I would HIGHLY. Recommend this hotel and plan on visiting here again, myself!

The Hotel was not in a bad location but, was in much needed renovations. Had a hard time opening the enterance doors as they were unable to close correctly. Very bad smell in the hallways and in the rooms, we had to go buy candles to help with the smell, of which smelt like mold. Asked for more towels and were told they over booked and didn't have any […] extra towels. This was a major inconvience since we had little ones with us and were in the parks all day and needed baths after playing all day. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Read more

This is the worst hotel I have ever checked into. The room smelled awful. Lighting so poor, even with every light on, there was no way to tell how dirty it really was. It also is in a very run down area. We left and stayed in a different hotel. But it was not worth my life to sleep there even one night, and that is what I felt was at risk. I had booked this hotel based on the name of Howard Johnson which previously was a name you could expect to be worthy. Oh where to start...we arrived late & had to wait at a window in order to be helped. There was no one at the window so I rang the bell that was posted outside. Still no one came. I was there for about 10 minutes before a lady came to help me check-in. They did an imprint of my credit card...people still do that? checking in on this hotel was fast and easy and cheap but the hotel was horrible it was in very bad conditions, seat cover on the toilet was burned around the edges, carpet was ripped, we stayed 2 days and the only thing they will do was the beds and bring new towels, they wouldn't pass the vacuum or clean the sink.

Hotel staff was very friendly. Suite had queen size beds, frig & microwave, and TV's were plasma. Our kids LOVED the two-room suite. Although room-suite was very clean there was a noticable poor maintenance in the RR (tiles broken off in the shower and floor edges).

We stayed 4 nights. The bathroom was not cleaned as well as it should have been each day. I think all they did was empty the trash, make the beds and vaccum. No difference in breakfast each morning, always the same thing. It's not a bad place to stay, but it's our second time and will probably be our last.

This hotel was very close to Fort Sam Houston where i was going to see my soldier. The hotel has been newly painted and had a little remodel done to it. The staff was very nice to me and my room was clean. The few problems i had were: one, there were no bath towels in the room. i had to call down and i had to wait for towels cause they were all in the […] dryer. it took them about half an hour to get them to me. two, the entrance door to the building had a key swipe that took me multiple trys to get the door open every time, but my key worked perfectly in my room door. Othere than that the AC worked really well and it was actually really quiet considering it was right off the freeway and had a train track right behind it. The people at the front desk were more than helpful. The manager there is very wonderful and willing to help with whatever you need. At check in upgraded to a suite which could be a reason as to why the room was so unprepared for ex- room only had 1 towel in a 2 room suite w/ 5 checked in, one of the tvs was not working properly, heater was turned on with outside temperature being in the mid to upper 90s taking over 6 hours to get both rooms cool since there is only 1 a/c unit for […] both rooms. Had a difficult time getting more than the 1 towel and after finally receiving more found some to be stained. To top it all off housekeeping did not clean our room. I could never get an extra blanket, an extra towel or even shampoo. Each time I went to to the desk, the excuse was that they were the only person on duty and there was no maid staff working. Apparently, only the maids have access to any blankets, towels, shampoo, etc. It was ridiculous. The pool was green my entire stay. The room has a separate living […] and bedroom area but the only TV is in the bedroom area so the couches and chairs in the living area are useless. Rather than put a 2nd TV in the living area, they have a massive portable closet... along with a 2nd one of those in the bedroom area. musty smell everywhere, door to outside was propped open so the security lock feature is not used. Windows are older and you can hear the train several times a night. This isn't the Howard Johnson's I used to know... sad
