Europa Hotel - Belfast

I had a two day stop over in Belfast and a crazy schedule - the staff could not have been more accomodating with any requests Philip at the front desk was a super star. A wonderful stay in an extremely comfortable room and the best location to explore the city.

The staff at the Europa was excellent. The room and resteraunt was excellent. The hotel is centrally located downtown and is about 2 minutes from the bus station. About 20 minutes to the airport. highly recommend the Europa for anyone staying in Belfast.

This place is nice and shiny. The bathroom being so close to the bed was a little disconcerting though and the door is just tempered glass with no lock. They have a nice fireplace in the guest common area and the location is central and really convenient. Although the room was small, it was well laid-out and very comfortable. First class business hotel in the center of Belfast, close to everything I wanted to do. Historic, but in very good shape. Staff made me comfortable. How could they help it if Robinson's pub directly across the street had live music until midnight on a Saturday when I was a jet lagged Yank?

Overall we enjoyed the stay however there were a few glitches and we found some of the Front Desk staff a little condescending. There is no name recognition, I was always addressed as "Madam". I prefer to be called by my name, especially when I am calling down to make a request or complaint. There was no Guest Services directory in the room upon check-in […] and the Receptionist didn't understand what I meant by Guest Services directory and so had to describe it as the booklet that is put in the room to give the guest all the information on the hotel facilities. Our reservation was for a double room but there was only one set of towels and toiletries. We couldn't control the temperature of the shower and it was too hot. Then the tap came off in my husband's hand. The shower unit is very nice, with a rain shower however, the placement of the soap dish makes it difficult to move and you end up hitting it. There is supposed to be free wifi on the first floor in the bar, unfortunately the two nights we tried to get connected we were unsuccessful. On the positive side, the F&B outlets and staff are great. So helpful and friendly and the food is good value for money. Apart from these small annoyances, we did enjoy our stay and would go back again. We also had a great rate through Hotels.com. Read more

Title says it all. Nice hotel and in a perfect location to tour the city but I need wifi and if you moved a foot away from the ballroom it just didn't work. The hotel needs to spend the money to upgrade this very important service for travelers.

Decent hotel, looks much older than it actually is. No air conditioning in rooms and it's run Soviet-style meaning you have to wait on long lines at reception in order to purchase vouchers for each breakfast or to use wireless internet in your room. They cater to large tour operators and do not seem interested in business or leisure travellers. Though […] the staff do their best to help you muddle through the system. Stayed twice during a ten day period,2 nights the first time and 1 night the second.A good experience with personal frustrations.Rooms are smaller then any hotel we have stayed in, thus full comfort was an issue.The second time we stayed,the front desk person asked us if we wanted discounted breakfast coupons which they didn't ask us the first time.The […] employee gave us two complimentary coupons to offset the first visit,but disappointed the offer was not made during the first visit.Frustration with the second visit for dinner, we did not make reservations but arrived at 8:00 and advised to sit in the lounge and they would get us at 8:30.We waited in the lounge until 8:45 since nobody retrieved us we returned to the restaurant to find plenty of free tables available.Spoke to the manager who attempted to make excuses so we decided to leave and go across the street to Robinson's.This is a very good hotel with a great location and access to public transportation but room size and staff snafu's put a less then "5" experience for our ratings. Also there was a domestic fight in the hallway at 3:00am that was frightening and required police to arrest a person.Would have been nice if hotel acknowledged and reach out to the neighboring guests the next day with some form of apology and concern, very disturbing(July 26th am on the 7th) Read more

Could not ask for a better location! My only real complaint is that you cannot regulate the temperature in our room... It was very warm and stuffy. We had a room facing Great Victoria street and thus had a lot of traffic and bar noise since we had no choice but to leave the window open all night.

This hotel has the best location in Belfast due to its proximity to an important train station, bus station [and they are important in Ireland] and in the city center. The question is can you stand the fact that the […] door closers have all failed and so every time your neighbor's door closes it slams - ALL THRU THE NIGHT! It's like being in a shooting gallery. Nickle and dined to death. Had to pay for wifi and it didn't work well 10 pounds for 2 eggs and a piece of toast. Surprised that didn't charge to ride the elevator. Fire alarm went off at 4 am.

This is the most bombed hotel in Europe. They don't tell you that when you book. Of course it hasn't been bombed in nearly 20 years, so don't let that stop you. It even makes it more interesting! Very nice Hotel with many amentities. However, Wi-Fi is not complimentary. A full breakfast is available at a discount. There is plenty of taxi service in front of the Hotel. Also, the City's commuter train station is next door to the Hotel.

Few Americans know this hotel’s history (see Wikipedia), and even fewer will understand its four-star rating. The rooms lack amenities found in Super 8 motels back home. In the United Kingdom, they must hand out ratings based on the selection of fine wines in the pub downstairs, not on whether there is an ice bucket in the room for use with an ice machine […] down the hall. But so what? Ignore the reviews that complain about room size. The attraction here is location, location, location. Of course the rooms are small; everyone wants to be here, not so much because of the Opera House across the street, but because of the bus and train station next door. After an overnight flight to Dublin and a bus ride to Belfast, you are ready to stay at the closest place available, especially if it is as clean as it is compact, and the online special rate is as attractive as the front desk clerk is charming. I traveled alone. Two people in the same room perhaps would have to move around each other like dancers in a TV competition (but isn’t that what hotel rooms are for, sometimes?). The “rain shower” referred to in other reviews is an overhead horizontal disk, perhaps nine inches in diameter, with different settings for different water sprays. I enjoyed it; anyone taller than 6'4" might not. You can eat at the restaurant, or you can cross the street to Tesco and often find discounted sandwiches, pastry and other items marked down after 7pm, in order to sell them before their expiration date. The biggest complaint you will have about the Europa is not the establishment itself but the patrons, who enjoy slamming the not-so-soundproof doors and shouting from one end of the hallway to the other at all hours of the day or night. Ask for a room far away from the elevator. And make sure to use the “Do Not Disturb” door sign if while recovering from jet lag, you don’t want housekeeping to awaken you at 8am. Read more

The room was overpriced and they charge 10 Euros (approx $17) per night for internet access & 16 Euros (approx $26) per night for parking. This hotel was really great. The rain shower in the bathroom was a welcome luxury after sightseeing all day. The only downside to this hotel, and many in Ireland, the rooms do not have their own temperature controls. The heat is by radiator and the air conditioning does not exist. Our room was adequate as far as a bed goes. Lighting was extremely poor....no reading lights except by the bedside. TV could be seen from in bed only. Choice of channels extremely limited......no national news channel. No refrigerator....no ice bucket.....no ice available on the floor. Internet was intermittent at best. I have stayed in this hotel many times & I always enjoy it. It is around the corner from the bus station with direct busses to Derry & Dublin. Just walk through the shopping mall between the station & hotel. Room has a safe, tea-maker, hairdryer, etc. Standard room has just a shower but you can upgrade if you require a bathtub.
