"Unique, clean, safe, stupid parking charge!"
Unique hotel! It is in a very nice area of St. Louis (Clayton) and close to shopping, movies and the loop that offers lots of Restaurants and entertainment. I did not appreciate the $7.00 parking charge per day! They need to add the fee into the room, it looks better and more hospitable. They have to realize people are bringing a car, they need to find […] another way of doing this. Charging an extra fee is tacky!! Be a little more clever and add in the fee elsewhere and then people wont have to complain or get rid of it all together!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great central location"
Cute hotel centrally located. Our first room was next to the bar and very noisy till after 1:00. There was a squeaky door that kept us up the first night. After that, they moved us down the hall, which was a little better. Not really worth the price overall.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Awesome staff, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again in a heart beat you cant beat the location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wanted a romantic weekend while we attended a friend's wedding, and The Cheshire was a perfect start! It's a charming, Old World sort of English public house that embraces St. Louis's love affair with stained glass. Each room is named for a famous author -- our room was Chaucer -- and the decorations are book themed. The rooms are classically beautiful, […] but comfortable. The common areas remind me of old family houses -- taxidermied bears and deer, antique furniture with just enough wear and tear to make you feel relaxed. Good pub right in the hotel with music Fri and Sat night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was located only minutes from Washington University and Forest Park. Lovely hotel with lots of charm. Surprised that they charged for parking as they were a community hotel with ample parking. Rooms were beautiful and clean. Very small bathrooms with limited counter space. Nice buffet breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay when visiting near Forest Park"
We have stayed here before and always enjoy it. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, breakfast is tasty and the loaner bikes are great for quick trips around Forest Park or the nearby neighborhoods. Plus we get to learn a little about an English poet or writer while we are staying in our room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are looking for a unique boutique type hotel this is the place. Exceptionally friendly staff, comfortable bed, and old world style furnishings. The continental breakfast is very european and delicious!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lobby Men Room had no hand soap. Lobby Ladies Room had no paper towels. Together we got our hands washed and dried. The room missing bath enough bath towels. The fitness room hand or shower soap in the rest rooms. We were very satisfied with our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun Theme. Great getaway."
The Cheshire gives you the cozy inn experience with modern attitude. A great place to base your St Louis travels or just spend the evening enjoying your room, The Fox and Hounds pub or poolside. Staff were cheerful and helpful. The only issue I had in my stay was having to waid past the valet line to get to the otherwise convienient underground parking. […] Despite that, I plan on returning to The Cheshire. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed in the James Bond room and absolutely loved it. The room was clean and decorated neatly. The bath tub was huge, it was great! there was also a door to the pool in our room which was continent, even though it wasn't pool weather they still had a great set up that could spend the beautiful evening outside. Everyone working at the hotel that […] I came into contact with that so friendly and helpful! I would definitely recommend staying here!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable. Very large bathroom but the bedroom area was a little small. Wished the room had a fridge. Service was great. You have to pay $7.00 to park in their lot, but it is only a one time fee. I didn't eat anything there, but stopped by the bar which was enjoyable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel but..."
You have to pay for parking in the garage below. The lights in the bathroom come on by a sensor, which can be a nuisance when they go off while in the tub, or goes on and stays on for awhile after you return to bed. And the bathroom floor is slippery. The coffee maker was not cleaned, so no morning coffee in the room until you go to the free breakfast, […] which was great. And the light bulb was missing in the lamp on the desk. No microfridge but the ice machine is on the same floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed here before an event at Forest Park. It was really close. The hotel has a lot of character. The staff was super friendly, and everything was clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cool atmosphere - DIRTY room!"
My husband and I were very disappointed with our stay at The Cheshire. The room was filthy - hair and gnats in the bathroom, a burnt-out light bulb, the exhaust fan did not work - slime/algae in the shower and dust everywhere, a thick layer of it. The coffee pot had not been cleaned, and there was a cigarette burn on the chair...it was a non-smoking […] room. We stood on a hand towel in the shower it was so dirty. Not sure was has happened to this place - but it's VERY sad!! (On a better note - The staff was very nice, and the breakfast was good!) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Many things to like about this Tudor style hotel but the ever present differed maintenance, dirty common rooms and young, sometimes snotty desk staff take away from what should otherwise be a great place. It's been a little hipified in the recent past and the pool area is great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Handy for Wash U parents"
Always love the quirkiness of this hotel. Beds very comfortable. While the grounds and busy street might not be as nice as some other hotels, having 4 food options right on the property now is very handy and it's close to Wash U campus and surrounding university housing for move in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay at the Cheshire"
Very much enjoyed the feel of a British hotel. Our room required a little attention and the restocking of the breakfast items was slow. The service behind the front desk was very good. Justin was very helpful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was very nice. I just don't like the idea that we get charge to park our car on the hotel parking lot. We did stay at the hotel then, yet we pay $7.00 to park their own parking lot. The bathroom is so small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cleanliness & Maintenance"
The staff were friendly and courteous. I also thought the hotel was safe. Unfortunately, the sheets were not cleaned and the lights in the bathroom did not work. The breakfast ran out of coffee and was not well maintained. In retrospect, I was surprised the hotel had such a high rating. I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Fabulous Weekend"
The Chelshire is one of the most charming hotels I have stayed in. We spent an entire day by the pool with our adult sons and the comfortable accommodations and service could not have been better. The hotel is near the Washington University Campus, and all of the activity centers at Forest Park. For this visit it suited us perfectly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"What a Gem!"
I don't leave reviews, but feel compelled to leave a review for the Cheshire. Our expectations were exceeded at our recent 5 night stay for a family wedding. The rooms were comfortable, with soft sheets and the hotel staff was very friendly, not only at check in but as you came and went from the hotel. The Euro-breakfast (think fruit, yogurt, rolls, […] cheese, etc) is nice, and the juice/milk bar was helpful for our toddler who wanted milk in the evenings. We had drinks one time at the Tavern, dinner outside another night that we carried back to the hotel, and the pool was hopping all the time. I will definitely stay at the Cheshire again. Quant Cheshire Inn is located within easy access to everything we needed for a 4 day stay. Kids enjoyed the pool as much as adults, fun themed rooms were just the right size. Too bad the yappy little dog in 322 wasn't as happy as I was...I would have been able to sleep past 5am otherwise. Maintenance on the 2nd elevator was noisy, but other than that, […] the stay was enjoyable with friendly service, an OK breakfast bar & easy access to restaurants. The pool was great- only downside was not enough lounge chairs. Location was perfect, restaurants and bar were great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel, while quite a distance from downtown, was amazing! The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are beautiful, and have a little added bonus of being named after great English authors! Sitting poolside for the day was also a lovely little luxury! I'd go again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not what I expected"
It is very old fashion and classy. I thought it would be a nice romantic hotel for me and my girlfriend but it was just way too old school. You get a book to read and everything in the hotel looks like it is from the 1800s. If you are a history buff and looking to relax then it is the right hotel for you. We were looking to go out and have a good time […] and there isn't any nightlife or anything for people in their twenties to do near the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This could be a first class establishment, but we found many faults, the worst being the cleanliness. This place needs to be detailed, there were areas that have never seen a cleaning tool. There were other guest's hairs in our bathroom, and the corners and baseboard trim were filthy. The eating utensils in the breakfast room were dirty and the tables […] were not kept clean between guests. The breakfast was adequate, although some of the fruit was moldy, and the staff had trouble keeping everything replenished in a timely manner. Watch out for the bed frame corners in your room that are wider than the mattress, and are easy to walk into, so we stuffed pillows into each corner to avoid walking into them. Refrigerators and microwaves are available upon request, REALLY? We tried for 2 days to get one, told it was available on the 2nd day and would be delivered, it never was, then we were told there were none available so we gave up on that one. Only one elevator was operable, so there was usually a wait. There are some positive things to say about The Cheshire. The staff was pleasant and friendly, the decor and antiques added to the ambiance of the hotel's historic theme, the on site restaurants were very good, and the location is close to Forest Park and a couple of the universities. Overall, for the rate of this hotel, there could be much improvement. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming, but not as quality as other choices"
This is not my first time staying at the Chesire. It's a charming place with the English theme and literary thing...but the quality overall is a little lacking. The walls are paper thin. We could literally hear the next room's conversations on the phone and what they were watching on TV. The front desk offered to provide a fan to drown out the noise; […] but the next room was not being inappropriately loud. During one day, some vent cleaners emptied out a bucket of dust into the toilet and didn't clean after themselves. You also pay at least $7 a day to park your own vehicle. The good is that the staff is VERY nice and they do try to do their best considering what they are working with; but overall.....I don't think the price point for a "boutique" hotel aligns with the quality in amenities and the infrastructure you get. If you value being near the park or Washington University...then it may be a good option. I would not pay more than $140 a night to stay here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great, friendly staff. Exactly what we were looking for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
After spending all night driving around St.Louis and having a previous reservation at another hotel that was not a safe environment at all. We were so happy to finally get to the Cheshire. The staff was friendly and professional. There was a nice aura to the place that made us feel safe. We were excited about the themed rooms and the entire hotel was […] nice and in good shape! "Perfect place to relax away from the city"
It was far enough away from the actual city to relax, but close enough where you could drive in 10 minutes to get in the heart of St Louis! Great Price, and WONDERFUL place to stay! Loved how homey it was!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not so clean room, weird shower, hot room."
The room wasn't bad, but it shouldn't have been better for the price. There was "stuff" on the toilet seat, some nastiness on the wall above the trash can. The shower was just a hand held shower, with a seat in it. The shower floor was even with the rest of the bathroom floor, so when you showered it got half the bathroom floor soaked. The AC worked […] but not very well, it was hot all night. Also the breakfast itself was ok, but there is limited seating by the breakfast area so we sat in the bar area. We got kicked out of there bcs "there might be a manager looking." I explained to the guy that we were almost finished and we would clean up any mess, but still was removed from the table. All in all pretty bad experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A great spot to stay in St. Louis"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. "Worst service ever"
The first room we had was not clean and even had flip flops that were left from someone else. There was hair was under the covers. The second room had a sensor for the bathroom light that would get triggered by the AC every 20 minutes or so so I had to unscrew light bulbs in order to get rest. The Breakfast was awful and unsanitary. They had turkey, […] cheese and ham slices that you had to serve with your hands. The napkins were kept on a dusty windowsill. When we made these complaints when we check out, the front desk said there's nothing they can do about it and to contact hotels.com. I don't normally complain about this stuff online but this place was overpriced and across the board terrible. I'm not sure how they got good rating considering just how bad it was. Should've stayed at a Motel 6. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"We will come back"
Great quick getaway, food, and service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Ok so it's a very cool and unique concept. Interesting. Not like any place I've been. There appeared to be a ventilation issue and redistributing other people's hair in our bathroom. Day #1 upon entrance to room noticed all sorts of hair (not ours) in bathroom, glued to shower walls, etc. I wiped some of them up myself. Day #2 more new hairs appear […] in bathroom (not ours). Not real happy with that. Good have been cleaner for sure. But unique concept of English hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel! Smells a little weird inside"
We LOVED our trip, and this hotel was a huge part of it! The staff is SUPER awesome. The pool is wonderful, but there is no hot tub / whirlpool. Just noting that. They provide a lovely breakfast free of charge each morning. My kids loved the workout room. We ate at the Basso: very different and exciting! The wait staff got to know us by name. Our beds […] were AMAZINGLY comfy, but the housekeeping staff did not give us as many towels or complimentary hair stuff (shampoos, conditioners) as we requested daily (we needed 3 per day... girls with long hair!). Everyone is super-friendly, and they want to make your stay incredible. I ordered up this hotel online and had no idea what I was getting into, and we were SO PLEASED. "Dr trip to St Louis."
We drive up to St Louis once a year from southern MO to see the heart specialist at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The Cheshire was rated very well and was pretty close to the hospital. It was an older property but very clean and well cared for. The bed was really nice and comfortable. We had a drink in the pub after checking into our room. It had a nice atmosphere […] and drinks were good. We inquired about restaurants nearby and decided on a neat little local place just down the road. "Jimmy's In The Park" was a great little place. We really enjoyed our dinner. Food was great. The continental breakfast was good the next morning. My only complaint is the way the breakfast bar is set up it was really crowded. Everyone was lined up blocking the bar. I would like to have gotten something else but there were so many people in the corner I didn't bother. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Out of a novel"
The Cheshire feels like you have stepped into the pages of a novel or a Shakespearian work. It has a classic old English feel and look. Accommodations are modern with an antique look. While we were there they were having trouble with the AC which made for a warm stay, but the staff was on the ball and very prompt in responding to the issue (which was […] not in their control). Aside from the pool, the grounds were very kid friendly (even sending the kids on a clue based scavenger hunt with a prize bag of goodies when they completed it). The pool was very nice (cabanas, nice furniture, and complete with a bar), although not much room for kids to play at all. Breakfast was nice. This is our 2nd stay at the Cheshire, and we will return. The charm of the grounds and wonderful staff certainly makes up for any of the shortcomings. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
