Very nice hotel and stay. Great location in the Gaslamp for all it provides. Hotel Staff seemed very willing to appease us and make our stay more enjoyable. While the pool wasn't heated which we felt was a bit odd and unfortunate, especially for this time of year and weather, we will definitely use the Westin again for the Gaslamp.

We booked Westin for the first time ever thinking that paying a premium price would get us an unforgettable experience. I had heard good things about Westin but never thought we would utterly dissappointed.There was no shampoo or conditioner in the room when we checked in. Very nice stay in a clean and spacious room, with modern furnishings that were attractive and made efficient use of space. Pocket door for bathroom was not operable, and there was too much noise from adjacent rooms for my liking, but these weren't "deal killers." I especially appreciated little touches like a refrigerator that was incorporated nicely […] into furnishings, small fold-out LED reading lights recessed into the headboard of the bed, Starbucks coffee, complimentary bottled water, a container for recyclables, translucent blinds that assured privacy while admitting plenty of natural light. Best discovery? Bath gel, shampoo and conditioner containers with labels in a font large enough to be read without glasses - big deal if you've ever errantly poured bath gel or moisturizer on your wet hair... I wish that Westin (and other large hotels) could figure out how to offer free wireless access. All in all, a very good stay in a convenient and interesting location. Read more

Overall - I had a good stay at this Westin. The bed was ridiculously comfortable and the room (a traditional king) was pretty spacious and had a nice bathroom and shower with a rainfall showerhead. Everything was clean and the room was ready to check in when we got there around 2 - it was nice not having to wait at all. We were able to walk everywhere […] that we wanted to go and it was a short drive getting there to check-in from the zoo. The two stars come off for the following reasons: 1- We get to our room immediately after checking in to find that both keys won't work. We walk down to the lobby to get it checked out. The woman at the front desk apologizes and re-programs the keys. We head back up to the same room. The keys work this time - only, we open the door and find ourselves in an already occupied room with someone else's luggage and personal belongings everywhere. Of course, we immediately close the door and go back down to the lobby. Aside from raising the issue that the hotel just gives out random room keys, we were saved from what could have been a completely awkward situation by the family/couple/whoever not being in the room walking around naked or something. Seriously, thank god they weren't there. 2- Housekeeping kept knocking and knocking starting at 8:30 AM to see if we were out -- dude, check out is at 12pm... give us a break and give us a chance to answer the door before entering when you awaken us from a dead sleep! The hotel and location were great! Lots to do within walking distance. Cab fare from airport was only $14.00 and to the beach was about $32.00. The downside was the cost of parking! $36.00 a day! Customer service was fabulous!

I was impressed with the overall quality of the hotel. Staying in the Gaslamp Quarter on St Patrick's Day weekend instantly means you will be shelling out some money to get a hotel, let alone a decent one. We found The Westin on Hotels.com and was the second cheapest of all the hotels in that area. I personally don't need a fancy hotel, but was impressed […] by the quality of the hotel and the service. The personnel there was very helpful as we were looking for the major hotspots of the Gaslamp Quarter. The gentleman at the concierge was very helpful. Our room was very comfortable and was nicely decorated. I am a light sleeper so I was shocked to find out that the walls were thick enough where we didn't hear neighboring rooms nor hallway traffic. The beds were oh-so-comfy. If you like squishy beds, then you'll love them. Side note: you can purchase a King mattress for about two grand. Yikes! Our transaction was smooth and had no hidden charges or fees. Everything is laid out for you. The only negative is that there is no free breakfast, so be prepared to order room service or go to a restaurant nearby. Overall, great experience. The Westin is very close to many attractions. One of the finest Westin's I've stayed in over the past few years. The lobby is modern, clean, and very nice if you need to sit down and get some work done, or visit the bar for a beer. We stayed here for our anniversary and were not impressed. The room was small and the beds were small. They were not queens but fulls. The bathroom had a pocket door that slid out yet did not lock. The valet staff was very friendly when we arrived which always is welcoming! The concierge was very prompt and made sure all my request were granted. The room was much more than I had expected. The only things I didn't enjoy were the elevator ride because it beeps every floor and 16 floors later it can get pretty annoying. Also we arranged for spa services, […] but there isn't a designated waiting area so we had to stand around in the workout room which was awkward until someone finally showed up and they were late for our service. Then they had issues with the lighting and during our massage they kept stopping to fix the music so it seemed like they were unprepared. They told us things had been changed in the room so that was the reason for their tardiness. If we didn't have the spa service or had to ride the elevator overall this was an amazing experience. Extremely nice staff in a nice hotel. We did not get a chance to enjoy their bar but it looked like fun. Their valet service is very nice and had no problems getting some things out of our car that we forgot. Overall, a great place to stay for the weekend. And just a block from all the night life in the Gaslamp District.

The hotel was nice, but the surrounding area is rowdy at night and dead in the morning. You can walk to a lot of places, including the Gaslamp, train, and Harbor. The room was comfy but small. The beds were luxurious. The pool was small and cold and the Jacuzzi didn't look very clean, kinda moldy. For a Westin, it was descent for the price.

It was good hotel for a one night stay. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go in the Gaslamp. It wasn't a very warm day so we didn't use the pool but did use the hot tub, which was very small. It had strong jets but felt more like a gym hot tub than one for relaxing.

Hotel service, amenities, and location were terrific! Very satisfied with our stay. The only negative comment I have is on the bathroom door in our room. It was a pocket door that was very heavy and did not slide easily. I have never been disappointed by a Westin property and I'm glad I can continue to say that.

This is an excellent hotel adjacent to the Gaslamp district with convenient access to highways. It accepts small pets and there is a open area across the street to walk your dog. The city provides "poop" bags to pick up after your pet but you should also bring your own bags. There is full service valet with in and out privileges but it is a bit pricey […] at $36/day. But considering the location and the room rate it is probably a fair price and the valet service is polite and prompt. Not having to worry about your car while having nearly instant access is worth it. Wireless internet access in the room costs extra; it should be free. However we were able to get satisfactory broadband access for our iPad and iPhone and didn't need the wireless access. Like most hotels that accept pets you are not supposed to leave your pet in the room unattended. We did for a couple of hours and received a complaint from a guest in the adjoining room. We apologized and kept our small dog with us when we left the room and had no further problem. It would be nice if there were a short term self-service kennel available. It might be a small profit center for the hotel. Read more
