Staff was really fiendly. The room was very nice for the price. The bed was AMAZING!!! The parking was horrible!!!!! Only parking available was the VALET parking which costs $32. There's street parking around the hotel, but good luck trying to find a spot once the nightlife gets going. Overall I was pleased.

If you want to be central to shopping, business and shows, this is the place to be. Like much of California, you'll need a car, but this hotel is the center of SD. We spent the day at the zoo as well as the next morning in Old Town, could have headed to the Museum of Making Music (a 45 min drive) or south for more fun...(20 miles). either way, this is a great place to stay and there's great restaurants and shops all within walking distance...just walk out of the hotel, turn right, pass through the mall and you now found some great places up and down these next streets.

We stayed in a 5th floor room expecting that we would have a well appointed room & a great night sleep on the Westin's "Heveanly" bed. We were very dissappointed to find that our bed was hard as a rock and sagged in the middle. We also had the sink back up before we even used it, leaving little hairs (that were not ours) all over the bottom of the sink! Did I also mention that parking was $32 a night! Let's just say the Gaslamp Westin is a hotel I will not be staying at again!

The location is very good. Horton Plaza is right next door so you can pick up anything you need. The furniture in the room is a little worn but the bed is excellent and extremely comfortable. I found the hotel staff to be friendly and helpful. The only negative comment I can make is about the cost of the food there but since so many restaurants are nearby, you can find cheaper meals within walking distance.

The hotel location is really perfect for a city vacation, "in the middle of everything you need". The 24 Hour Fitness is just behind the hotel. Ralph Supermarket opens 24 hrs, is just the other corner of the rear of the hotel. Westfield shopping mall is next door in two minute walk. If there is no plan to go out side the city, you don't need to rent a car. Valet parking is $30/day not optional. I stayed here three days for the Pride clubbing, I used taxi to go everywhere around the city. The hotel building itself looks big, but inside is quite small, especially the check-in area. The elevators are old, and make noise when they pass every floor, but the speed is not too bad. Elevators are kind of small, so 4-5 persons in them can make you feel uncomfortable. The size of the room is good enough for 2-3 persons, but old decoration. Table and counter tops are glossy glass and look dirty. I guess it hard to clean and make it looks clean. Two good-size windows can be open to feel the fresh air. Furniture is in dark brown color and there are some scratches and cracks, so it looks old and needs maintenance. Lighting is very well design in the room except in the bathroom. The bathroom lighting is a little too dark for make-up or setting hair style. There is one magnified mirror but there is no illuminating light with it, so no use. I had to move it outside the bathroom and used it next to the window. There is no ventilation fan in the bathroom, so imagine when you take shower or do your personal stuff. We needed to leave it alone for a while before the next person could use it. The bathtub drained so slow. I called the frontdesk to fix it the next day, but there was no improvement. Maybe the waiting time for the next person to use can help with the draining, so there is no need to fix it. Overall, this hotel is worth enough for my stay though.

I stayed in The Westin Gaslamp Quarter in May 2009 while attending a conference in San Diego. I was glad that I booked it through Hotels.com rather than the conference site because it saved me £170 over 5 nights. The hotel was in a very good location. Next to the shopping centre (very convenient for fast food and quick shopping), 5 min away from the 5th avenue (the place to go for music and entertainment), 5min walk from Ralph's supermarket (good for cheap snacks), 10-15 min walk from the conference centre (depends on your pace) and 15min from the seaport village (food by the seaside). The room was clean and the bead very comfortable. The hotel was quiet even in the night that they help the high-school proms (I stayed on the 5th facing the reception area). The staff was friendly although I had no need for major interaction. Overall, good location for downtown.

The Westin Gaslamp Quarter is in the heart of the Gaslamp District and was so convenient we could walk anywhere we wanted to go. It is surrounded by great shopping, restaurants and the waterfront. The hotel itself was very nice - quiet and comfortable. No balcony or ability to open a window unfortunately - but that was really the only drawback. I would recommend the hotel for anyone who likes to be able to walk to most places - we only took two cabs the entire time we were there.

I expected better service for what the room cost me. I also got a room on the same level as a large patio. The hotel was hosting an event in the rooms accross the patio, so I had to listen to a DJ playing music until very late and people having conversation right outside my window. You have to valet park your cart at $31 a night, and they were not quick to retrieve your vehicle. It was also fairly difficult to find the hotel, though the surrounding area was very nice.
