The hotel has an easy access to the train station. I do not recommend to a handicap person. The elevator is not accessible to every floor.

Besides close to all the attractions and good breakfast, there was not much can said about the hotel. The room is too old. Not too many service personnel can speak English. No heat even room was cold and there is a non-functional thermostat on the wall.

The Hotel Novo Domus was an easy 10-minute walk (5-ish blocks) from the entrance to the Vatican museums and the people in the hotel were relatively nice and helpful, but the physical state of this hotel let down their best efforts in almost every way. In our room alone there were multiple issues: the main (double) bed in the room sagged when sat upon, […] which after investigation was a broken bedframe that somebody had tried to fix by stuffing extra blankets into (fixed after the first night), the carpet was worn and stained, the wallpaper and ceiling had multiple markings and/or damage to them, and the bathroom, although clean, was poorly put together (for example the bath fixture would not switch completely to shower or bath so we had a flaccid shower and wasted hot water). But wait for the kicker: the second night we were there (out of three) I was awakened by a dripping noise to find the ceiling dripping water onto the carpet! After complaining about this to the front desk, they "fixed" it but the fix was turning off the AC - so the next night we had dripping again and ended up with 3-4 inches of water in a garbage can. ONE BRIGHT SPOT was breakfast, which was quite a good spread, clean, and well organized - they should put the person who manages the breakfast in charge of the whole place and maybe it would get straightened out. I have stayed at several hotels throught Italy, and this was a fairly good value for Rome, the location is excellent, only 3 blocks from the Cipro metro station and 4 blocks from the Vatican walls. The hotel itself is in need of renovation, as it shows quite a bit of wear in the carpets and ceilings. The beds are the usual European style (kind of uncomfortable compared to American style mattresses), but the bedding and towels were very clean. The room was actually bigger than the standard and could comfortably sleep four (one queen and two twin beds). Overall I loved this hotel, easily my favorite hotel I stayed at in Italy (out of the 5). The price was also somewhat comparable to the other hotels too. The room was really nice, the included breakfast was outstanding, and the location was not too inconvenient. This hotel is located in a largely residential area which is walking distance to the Vatican […] Museum. It is about a 5-10 min walk to the nearest Metro (there are 2 buses that are slightly closer, but they didn't come by often during our stay). There isn't any Italian food that close by, there is an Asian food place right next to it, otherwise you will have to walk a ways to find a place to eat. It is really close to a big supermarket, which is convenient. The breakfast was the highlight of my stay here. They had a buffet of coffee, eggs, bacon, pastries, breads, yogurts, juices, and more. It was nice having this included. The room was plenty nice, clean with the nice firm mattresses I learned to love in Italy. The lobby is really nice with leather couches, the only place I stayed at with an actual lobby. This was one of the 2 out of the 5 hotels I stayed in Italy that wanted you to drop off the key at the front desk, but it was definitely the largest hotel I have ever stayed at that required this (it is a very big hotel). I had gotten somewhat use to this traveling abroad, but it still was slightly disconcerting that all I needed to do was say a room number to a employee I had never seen before, and I was happily handed the key. The front desk staff was really helpful when we asked about recommendations and help with finding operating hours of tourist spots. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone going to Rome and planning on visiting the Vatican. Read more

Breakfast buffet was above-average (salami, ham, cheese, fresh bread, eggs, bacon, butter, honey, jam, three types of cakes, etc.). Good location, less than 1/2 mile from subway (red line) AND busses (express line 30), both of which go to the heart of Rome. Many good restaurants […] within 1/2 mile radius. Note on cabs - the hotel is only two blocks outside of the inner city limits - so the fixed-fee cab ride from the airport may not apply (i.e. you may need to pay a few bucks more). This was our first time to Rome and I wasn't sure where I wanted to stay. I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Vatican. I wish I would have stayed closer to the Travestere area. But, regardless of that, the first two rooms we were placed in, the AC did not work. The hotel rooms at Nova Domus in Rome were not accurately reflected on their web-site. The rooms had not been remodeled in decades and were extremly tired and worn. The bed was beyond uncomfortable. Wireless service was charged per HOUR and was not reliable. I would not stay there again or recommend it to anyone.

I go to Rome twice a year for work, and have stayed at the Nova Domus the last five trips. The hotel's condition has always been ok, but it is clean with a pleasant staff. However, this trip I was on the top floor, and it was raining in Rome. The roof leaked into the ceiling of my room. The sound of water hitting the tiles woke me up at 2:30 am. The […] conciere came up to look at it, and said it would be ok! I will not stay with them again, unless the hotel maintenance is improved. I am also sending an e-mail to Choice Hotels, the owner of Nova Domus, with pictures and ask for an explaination for the conditions of the hotel. We were lucky to find this hotel in Rome upon our arrival since the place we had booked turned out to be a house of horrors. The hotel was clean but needs some upkeep. A light shade in our room had a very dark burn mark from the light bulb on it and the lamps on the wall were loose. These are little things that are easily repaired. Anyone who is bothered by perfumes would definitely be bothered by it. Luckily, I did get used to it and didn't smell it anymore after the first day there. Overall, it was a decent hotel and we had a nice, two-room suite. Bathroom was clean and the water was hot and pressure was good. Nice selection of refreshments in the mini bar but no tea kettle. VERY clean, INCLUDED parking, and a HUGE room/suite! The bldg used to be part of a monastery. This explains why the rooms are big for European standard and the corridors are wide. We were surprised that the bathtub even has a jacuzzi installed. Rooms have high ceiling, carpet flooring. Small tv of 14 inches, but who spends time on tv while on vacation anyway? There's minibar inside the room and a small […] safety deposit box. They clean the room daily and turn the bed at night. Just across the hotel is a Japanese-Chinese restaurant with reasonably priced meals. All said, the caveat is don't buy hop-on, hop-off ticket from the hotel counter. They will ask you for a deposit of 6-8 euros per persons, depending on 1 or 2 days validity, with the balance to be paid directly when you take the bus. However, when you reach the terminal, you will see that it will be cheaper to get other hop on service even if you throw away the deposit you made, which the hotel front desk will not refund despite your non-usage of the facility and despite the fact that they will not be billed for it since you still hold the deposit voucher. In short, either the front desk person or the hotel benefits from the non-refund of the deposit. Other than this, we certainly will recommend the hotel. Just scout around first for sight seeing options. By the way, the rate we got from hotels.com is better than the rate you get when you directly book with the hotel. We learned this when we tried to extend for two more days, only to find out that the rate was relatively higher. Read more

This hotel is located on a quiet street, but at the same time is close to " tourist" spots, subway and shops. The staff is top notch and provides superior service. I have stayed at Estates and 5 star hotels, but they are no match when comparing service to this hotel. I can't say enough on how excellent the service was and management should be extremely proud of the staff (speaking as a former hotel manager myself).
