"Perfection in Old Montreal"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
We only stayed the one night at Place d'Armes hotel, on our way back to Vancouver and then home, but we wished we had more time, and will return. The hotel staff were both welcoming and efficient (not a combination one often finds), and the hotel itself was immaculate in every respect. The room was flawless in its design, the bed was soft enough to be comfortable, but not so soft as to feel like one is clambering from a bean-bag, upon rising, (as I found in so many hotels in the States!) I particularly appreciated that the designers had eschewed a bath/shower combination in the large bathroom, and installed a large, stone-clad, walk-in shower with a beautiful glass shower screen, instead. The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring Old Town Montreal by foot, which was just what we wanted to do, since we only had the one night. When we checked out, we left our luggage with Place D'Armes, mentioned when we would return for our flight and, when we did, a taxi was already awaiting us. Immaculate service.

Room was good - a great value for the price! Just a few minor complaints - TV remote didn't work; a little noisy late at night (Saturday night; we were next to the elevator). Beds: very comfortable. Pillows, not so much (overly firm). Bathroom small but clean, bath/shower good, water pressure and temperature fine. Nice pool, adequate gym. Convenient in/out parking, reduced price with hotel validation. Front desk staff: helpful and polite.

"We'll be back!"
Excellent location for the purpose of our stay! Rooms were very clean and personnel were very kind. Parking in garage for a fee but I knew my car would be safe. This is where we'll stay next time we visit Montreal.

"wonderful hotel"
We would highly recommend the Hotel Du Fort. We Had a beautiful clean room with a great view.
We were very please and will book there again on our next trip to Montreal. Very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Will recommend to anyone!.
"satisfactory place to sleep for the price"
I have stayed at hotel Du Forte several times, The rooms are consistantly clean, but getting a little worn out since my first trip. The best thing about this hotel is its location right near all the action on St Catherine street. Unless you park on the street, you will have to pay an additonalal fee to use a parking garage connected to the hotel. The […] parking garage is heated and elevators take you up tclose to the hotel loby and made coming and going easier. This feature really should be included or cheaper for hotel guests. Read more
"very nice hotel"
Hotel Du Fort this is a vey nice, well-kept hotel, friendly staff eager to help solving problems and to provide information. We booked a double queen room, which was large and comfortable, Internet worked in the room. We had booked a non-smoking room, they first put us into a smoking room, but then upon our insistence, got us a non-smoiking room and […] gave as free breakfasts as apology and compensation. Nice! The place is somewhat far from (old) downtown, but has good restaurants and a lively nightlife nearby . All ina ll a very good experience, will stay again. Read more
"Hotel DuFort Montreal - 8/26/11 to 9/1/11"
We booked two king rooms and were pleasantly surprised how comfortable and convenient it was. Our rooms were on the 11th floor, above street noise and with very little activity although the hotel was full. A breakfast buffet was available on the 2nd floor until 10 am or 11 am on weekends. It was very nice with warm croissants, scrambled eggs, etc. The […] hotel is located in a vibrant neighborhood with a college just next door. Parking is safe and available in the building with easy in/out. The metro is a few blocks away, with city center at the third stop. Staff at the reception were well-informed and friendly, Read more
"Hotel Du Fort, Montreal"
One thing that I believe needs improvement is the cleanliness of the lobby. There was an odor that permeated throughout the lobby, and elevators. Since I am pregnant, I am very sensitive to smells. The room itself was very clean.
We were able to sleep in without any outside disturbances and the rooms were very clean. .

Christine at the front desk was exceptional. Breakfast was average and was not included . The room was great and loved the location.
"Grand Prix visitor"
We were in town for the Canadian Grand Prix. The other reviews were very helpful in chosing this hotel. It was nice, clean and the staff helpful. They changed their policy on internet and now it is complementary, which was a nice surprise. Its not in the nicest neighborhood, but its convenient to at least 3 metro stations and is near the activities/restaurants […] on St. Catherine and Crescent street. Read more
"Hotel Du Fort - Montreal"
Located directly on Saint Catherine makes this hotel super convenient for all the best Montreal has to offer. Near 3 Metro stations. 5 minute walk to Crescent Street. The room I had was huge for 4 people. Good hotel. Would recommend.
"Hotel du Fort, Montreal"
I, and my wife have stayed at this hotel many times, and are totally satyisfied, and happy with it. It is reasonable, ideally located, provides great comfort, and exellent service
"Try something else"
For the cost I do not think this hotel was worth the cost of the stay. I was particularly unhappy about the additional cost of internet and the inconsistency of service -- some people were fabulous, some really mediocre. For the cost there are many competitors I will try when I return.
"Great Boutique Hotel"
Very nice smaller hotel with first class amenities. Nice large room - with sitting area and desk. It's a $10 cab ride from old town and the train station and the neighborhood is a little seedy... but close to a posh neighborhood and lots of restaurants. Beautiful hotel!!! $11 breakfast buffet is a nice touch.

"Hotel du Fort, an excellent find in Montreal"
Our room was not ready when we arrived in early afternoon, so they upgraded us to an executive suite....fabulous. Two generous sized rooms, two bathrooms, a terrific view of the city. The staff was excellent for all three nights of our stay. The parking in the underground garage was extremely convenient. The neighborhood is full of universities, so […] is full of inexpensive restaurants of every conceivable ethnic variety. There are two very good supermarkets on the corner that provide high quality take out food, which we enjoyed having in the suite. Only one block to the excellent Center for Architecture. About a 5 minute walk to the Guy Concordia Metro station, and about 10 minute walk to the also excellent Musee d' Beaux Arts. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. Read more

"Hotel du Fort in Montreal"
This hotel proved to be a good choice for people driving into Montreal, but then using public transportation to get around the city -- because it has a parking garage underneath and is located in between two subway stops, each about 3 blocks away. Great big room and very quiet. Comfy bed and lots of pillows. The nicest housekeeper you could possibly […] hope for. Sweet desk clerks who were patient with our lousy and mostly nonfunctional French. Fitness room with good, solid machines. I'd give it a perfect rating, except that the buffet breakfast is a tad expensive for what you get and the toilet was reluctant, on a couple of occasions, to flush completely. But we will definitely stay there again. Read more
"Great location"
The only complaint I have is the internet access cost of $13/day. Come on! Nowadays most hotels have free internet!
"Great place to stay!"
Right in the middle of downtown - walking distance to almost all tourists attractions, except may be Botanical Garden, which we took the subway to get to. Subway station is 5 min away. Hotel is nice, staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast is ok, not fancy, but good. Internet in room was working fine (have to pay for it separately), and they have […] a free computer with internet access in the little room they call a business center. TV works well and has enough channels in English and French. No problems with bathroom - all clean and neat. We would definitely come back to stay in this hotel. Read more
"Hotel du Fort"
The hotel is at a nice location, close to metro stations, shops and restaurants. However, when we arrived to check in at 5:30pm (check-in is suppose to start at 4pm), the rooms were not ready. Around 10 guests stood around the hotel lobby, waiting for their rooms to be cleaned. The hotel ended up moving us to a different suite because our original room […] was still not ready after half an hour. Some guests were moved to a different hotel near by. Other than almost not getting a room, our stay was enjoyable. Read more

"Excellent value"
We've stayed at the Hotel du Fort several times. It generally has better rates than others of the same quality in Montreal, and this is because the location is not quite as good--the immediate neighborhood on Ste.-Catherine is a little seedy. However, you can easily get a cab, or just pop up a couple blocks to Maisonneuve and things improve. The last […] couple times we stayed there, we got upgrades to a suite, and these are spacious and comfortable. Regular rooms are fine, too. Breakfast buffet is not so great--fresh fruit would be nice, for example. But overall, I'd certainly stay again; hard to beat for the price. Read more
"Better than average service for the money"
The hotel is just outside the boundaries of Montreal's swanker downtown hotels, but just as convenient. Rooms were large, which worked well for two vacationing families. Clean, comfortable -- great beds! -- and very helpful front desk. Nothing special about architecture or neighborhood, but the hotel was everything we'd hoped, and more, and all for […] a decent rate. "Great hotel in a great location"
We had a very comfortable stay at Hotel du Fort - on arrival we were offered an upgrade to a suite for a small additional fee, which turned out to have an enormous living area with a conference table for 8 persons, 2 sofas, and a cd player in addition to the extra TV set. The decor style seems slightly outdated but everything works, the bedroom was […] spacious; the bed very comfortable and the gym is opened for long hours and quite well equipped. The complimentary wi-fi worked flawlessly, and the hotel has its own parking garage (for a fee). We skipped the breakfast that seemed a tad overpriced as there were plenty of cafes, boulangeries and restaurants in the vicinity. The staff at reception were very helpful, booking a city tour for us and providing perfect directions for our drive out of Montreal: we were out heading for the US border within 15 minutes without a glitch. "Good, Solid Hotel"
Good location- more restaurants and shopping than you could EVER take advantage of. We walked everywhere, but the metro station was not far. Front desk was polite and acomodating, always with a smile. The heater in our room was very noisy, so I ended up just unplugging it, not tomention is was very hot! We kept the windows open all the time (this was […] mid-October) The neighborhood was ok, although we did get woken up both nights due to sirens and noisy revelers. Read more

the hotel was exactly as the reviews said.the location was great the staff was friendly. shopping, eating and night life all around. easy access to the freeway. i would def. stay there again. only negitive was the parking $20 a night
"Great hotel"
It is a great hotel. I always stay here because there is a grocery store right across the street where you can buy beer, water, wine etc. The hotel has a mini refrigerator and microwave. Also, the hotel has a safe, which is very useful feature. The hotel also has Battle Net (internet access hub) right across the street where you can access internet […] for $3.50/hour. This eliminates the need to carry your laptop for most basic connectivity needs. The only downside is that sometimes I have seen that a few light bulbs in hotel need replacement and occasionally the iron board does not work well. Read more
"Little Gem!"
If you're looking for dripping luxury, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for convenience, a friendly staff, and great sized rooms for the price you pay, the Hotel du Fort is a wonderful place. I was very satisfied with my stay there.
"Needs A Few Things"
Good location. Clean and comfortable rooms. The front desk staff could not care less that you're there. Eye contact takes remarkable effort. No bathroom hairdryer. One-computer "business center" closes by 11pm. Proof required beyond the booking printout that you qualify for a breakfast coupon.
"this hotel really made our trip a pleasure"
I booked a room that Hotels.com called a premier suite. It really was a large 2 room suite with a king bed as promised and a kitchenette. Two flat screen tv,s cd player, safe, coutch, comfy furniture,..... this made our first 5 days in Montreal totally pleasant. The location was convieniet to the metro and tons of interesting restaurants just down the […] street. We walked all over and had a great time. The desk staff was very helpful. We had the kitchen so we did not buy the breakfast buffet. This was the best value on our trip. Read more

""Very friendly staff and excellent location""
Hotel Du Fort is right in the center of downdown Montreal. Anyone who is not familiar with Montreal, the comparison could be merely been staying right on 5th avenue of NYC. Everything is in walking distance, shops, restaurants, and even supermarkets. The hotel staff were very friendly and we did have a small fire within the building on our second night […] there at 3am. But the fire was quickly resolved within 2 hours and gave us a free breakfast comp. The room itself is extremely close and the cleaning staff are very professional and friendly as well. The walls within each rooms are very solid and thick, we cannot hear the neighbors whatsoever nor the traffic in downtown. We would definitely stay here again if we ever were to visit Montreal again. The only negative part of the hotel is that nothing is free. If you wanted to use WiFi, it's $10/day, if you wanted to park your car in the garage, it's $17/day and no free breakfast neither. overall, I give it a solid A Read more
"Great Location"
The hotel was centrally located and close to the subway which was great. When we first arrived there was an smell of body order that permeated the lobby, elevator and hallways in the hotel. We attributed it to the very warm and humid day. Once we requested a reservation be made by the front desk. I think they were a little put out by the request. One […] morning we had breakfast in our room, and put the sign out for service. Our dirty dishes were left in the sink. None of the supplies (except shampoo in a dispenser on the wall, and one additional coffee) were refilled. I think I was most dissapointed by the fact that the first night we sat on the curb from 2am - 5am due to a fire in the building next to us. No one apologized for the inconvenience or even spoke to us about it. I wasn't expecting monetary compensation, but someone acknowledging or discomfort would have been nice. Read more
"parking problem"
hotel is great. the staff is great. the breakfast is great. the parking is ???? I guess assuming the lot could handle a honda suv with kayaks on it was wrong for me to do. it was a problem to find a place that could accomodate me. Oh well, life is never easy!!!
"Excellent value"
Good location with clean rooms and a great staff. Certainly worth the money.
"Wonderful Hotel"
I was very impressed with the hotel staff. Everyone--including the maids etc--were bi-linguial, very friendly, and so willing to be helpful. There were restaurants close by & markets as well. The underground parking at the hotel was well worth every dollar since parking on the street in the city is difficult. I would definitely consider this hotel […] again. Read more

"Extremely Helpful Staff"
My 14 yr. old daughter & I stayed at Hotel Du Fort for 4 days & 3 nights in the summer of 2009. After extensive research on the internet, this one seemed to have everything I was looking for. The location was about 6 blocks away from Crescent St. were there are lots of places to eat. Also the main shopping street, Ste-Catherine Street, met our hotel […] street. The rooms were extremely clean as well as the bathroom. We were on the 15th floor and had a fantastic view of the city! They had a summer sale going on, so we got our room at a reduced rate! The beds were comfy and we had a sitting area with a table & 2 chairs. There was also a small kitchenette in a closet with a microwave, sink, small fridge too. There was also a vanity table with a light up mirror! **The only thing I advise is: call the hotel in advance and ask about their wifi policy. We were told that every room is wifi capable, but when we got there we had to pay ten dollars per 24 hrs. of wifi service** That's the only thing that I was not pleased about, because most hotels these days offer Free wifi. But overall, we had a wonderful stay and the front desk staff was very helpful and polite and called me a cab when I was leaving. I would definitely stay there again! Read more

"Great room for the money"
The Hotel Du Fort is located close to many night clubs and restaurants. Rooms are big and clean. Hotel service was excellent.
"Great Location"
Great location just downtown, not too bad price and great service. In my opinion breakfast was too expensive, but the hotel is so close to many restaurants and bars that it didn't matter. Great time!
"Pleasant Stay"
We stayed at Hotel Du Fort for 4 nights in June. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is close to a popular street(St. Catherine)which had a lot of resturants, stores, and things to do at night. It is also close to Guy-Concordia or the Atwater stop on the Metro which made it easy to get around. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful and speak […] English well. The room was large, had a lovely bathroom, and we truly enjoyed having the kitchenette in the room as well. There is grocery storeand an internet cafe right across the street too. This hotel is great! "Great stay, as always"
This hotel suits us perfectly. The staff is always most accommodating, the beds, pillows and bed linens are of good quality. The location suits us well because it is located close to family. At $19.95, parking is a little pricey but we've got used to that. The complimentary Wifi works well and is a great value added feature.
