This is a great place to stay in the city. Close to everything, shopping, eating out... only downside was the elevator was being fixed and the waiting time to catch it was a little much, but the staff were very friendly, the beds were comfy as can be and I had a great time

The location was perfect because we could walk everywhere . The hotel is on the edge of Chinatown but only 2 blocks from the exclusive shopping district and historic sites of the city. The price is very reasonable considering it included a buffet breakfast.

First, the directions that we had to the hotel (google) were very hard to understand as it brought us down a street that cars could not go down. The hotel is located in a hard to reach place. We had been out drinking that night and had a very late check in, about 3am, the hotel gave us a late check out which we where thankful for. The bldg is old with narrow hallways and beat-up carpet. The rooms didn't have the comfort but for the price is was fine/ok. Only two terminals for internet access and boarding passes wouldn't print.

If you want to be in the middle of everything @ a reasonable rate, this is the place. Room on the smaller size, but location and service -- especially Chris the concierge -- more than made up for it. We moved from a high quality boutique hotel (which was very nice) on the border of The City and we're thrilled with the switch.

This is a hotel with great locations sitting in Chinatown. You can find all ranges of Asia foods with supermarket nearby. 15 mins away from Victoria Market. However, the staff service from the front desk and concerige doesn't meet my expectation. The front desk are unable to give you any locations guidance and would refer you to the conceige. Conceige […] closes at 6pm and nobody to ask around. Tried again the next morning around 10.30am and waited for half an hour and still nobody is around at the concerige. Asked the front desk many times for the appearance of the concerige but have to give up after 30 mins as we are running short of time. The front desk then tried to ask how they can help after 30 mins but believed that they cannot help after rejecting me for address questioning in the first place. The room conditions are ok except for the ceiling. The ceiling makes the rooms look like you are in the 70's and really make the stay dull without any more excitment. Those who are driving will have to pay 30aus for 24 hours unlimited time parking or 15aus for overnight parking at the nearby supermarket car park. Overall, I would not recommend any one this hotel for their services even though their front desk are the same for Mercure Welcome and Grand Mercure Hotel as I am a person who looks for services or at the minimum someon who are there for you when you need help. We have been returning to this hotel for many years because of the great location, on Melbourne's main street and close to shops and restaurants. The room we stayed in was quiet, and well maintained. The room size was just a tad small but quite comfortable for the two of us with two large suit cases and staff were prompt in delivering a luggage stand. […] The only issue that we experienced was the slowness of the lift(elevator) which the hotel management were aware of. Hotel is located in the centre of the CBD and close to everything. I was disappointed with the size of the TV, too small to fit in all the information being broadcast at the base of the screen. Worse still, it often had a dialogue glitch where the sound went off for 1-3 seconds. The person sent to look at it said he couldn't do anything, as it was caused […] by the fridge located under the TV, and we weren't as badly off as other people who had their TV change channels each time their fridge cut in! The bathroom had obviously been flooded at some stage, as the base of the door had obvious water damage. Despite the negatives, we would probably stay again because the rate was reasonable. Room was quite small and layout quite tight, with very limited circulation space between the bed and ensuite bathroom. Not ideal if traveling with more than one suitcase.This may just have been the room we stayed in as the corner rooms seemed to be a little larger. When we arrived the bar fridge was turned off, and was noisy when turned on (my partner […] turned it off due to the noise to sleep). Was noisy at night, as rooms seemed to have thin walls as we could hear other guests television at night, not to mention the air conditioning unit was quite noisy at night (which we needed as it was very hot when we traveled) and could hear water from other guests bathrooms. There was also construction happening quite close to the hotel, so often could hear machinery early in morning (prior to 7am) or reversing sounds from trucks. When we went looking for suggestions from staff to purchase ear plugs, we were provided with some and told that someone from maintenance would look at our air conditioning the following day, but had similar problems with noise (not sure if maintenance attended our room). Otherwise the staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions for places to eat, and acknowledged our request on booking for extra pillows when we checked in. Read more

Obviously has had a make over recently. Everything was very nice and clean and comfortable. Excellent budget accommodation. Would stay there again as it is so close to everything, great value for money. Valet parking a bit expensive at $35 a day, recommend park somewhere else or leave the car at home.
