Had to change rooms for second night as the hotel engineer explained that the heat for all the rooms on the side of the building we were staying in had hot pipes running in them and the head could not be adjusted. On second night received a call from the front desk at 2:15 am asking a question about the reservation. Can you believe it!

The hotel seems nicer online than in person. The location is great. The horrible part is the slow service, extremely small elevators, and my room did not have any heat in the middle of December. They moved me to a suite and still no heat!!! It is Chicago in December; you should have heat.

Maintenance was poor. A window would not close completely or lock. HVAC on high fan speed only, low and medium did not work. Temp was hard to control. It was "fixed" quickly after my call in a few hours but it appears no one is inspecting the rooms on a routine basis prior to guest arrival. The location is great near Michigan Ave Shopping. The restaurant is excellent but pricey. TV is good flat screen digital but no HD or DVR capability which would be expected in a 4 * hotel. Free WiFi is not included in most rooms.

The room was spacious and in good shape and included a refrigerator and microwave. Nicely updated bathroom with sufficient number of towels for two adults and two children. Room was clean. Front desk staff were terrific; bell staff a little slow and hard to find at check in but very helpful in loading the car. The location is great. Only two downsides. First was the two small elevators. This made it difficult at check out and on Saturday night because the hotel was crowded with families wanting to get to the Santa parade. Second, there is no turnabout for the car when loading/unloading, but on the weekend, the street traffic was light so not a problem double parking. But, these were a small inconveniences. The location is great -- adjacent to Hancock tower and one block from Michigan St and Water Tower Place. We will definitely stay at the Rafaelo again.

The beds were very comfortable. All the details of the room were very tasteful and well thought out. The taxes and parking fees add one fourth to the costs typical of all hotels in this area. My first choice on my next visit.

We booked this hotel based on reviews and the area. It's suppose to be a 4 star hotel. When we booked the rooms, we were suppose to get a free upgrade to a suite. When we checked in, we only got one out of four rooms upgraded. In addition one of the king rooms booked turned out to be a small double only. Overall the hotel was nice, very small but pretty clean. The decor in the rooms were very nice but small maintenace problems persisted such as chipped tiles in the shower that I scraped my foot on, not very many amenities and a tiny cramped elevator. I liked the hotel though and would stay there again.
