An OK hotel with great service and good location. Rooms in Garden Wing sometimes smell moldy. In my opinion the restaurant is expensive, especially the breakfast buffet. The service, cleanliness and the amenities are excellent. Best hotel for the money. Food is great, especially the breakfast buffet. If anything negative, would be the TV reception and the TV...they still have old analog TV sets in the rooms I stayed.

I think Renaissance Jaragua deserves to be recommended to others. It is a good place to stay. It's was a real pleasure to have my breakfast every morning. The waiters are very courteous. I was satisfied of my 3-day stay at this Hotel.

Excellent pool overlooking the Malecon. Close to all restaurants and friendly staff. Very safe, Rooms are a very clean, beathroom need to be renovated very low water pressure in shower. Outstanding rates make sure to include breakfast it is well worth it. I prefer to stay in the garden rooms. Nice gym and souna.

I stayed in the main tower which I preferred. Reception was excellent. Very cordial. The staff in general was very nice and anxious to be of service. My room was very clean and the bed was great. The bed was very comfortable with down pillows and a great mattress. People seemed to be enjoying their pool. I did not go into the pool area. It was a short stay, but I have been before in this hotel and it needs remodeling, very long overdue. Last time that I stayed was 5 years ago and it needed it then. The staff are nice, location is good, but the facilities, amenities and furniture and equipment not great!!! If you are on a budget it is an ok 3.5 stars hotel.

Best for Business Travellers. I was with a female friend, in separate rooms. Cleaning staff was strange - we had to always ASK for coffee for our coffeemakers. They were throwing out our stuff that was NOT in a garbage bin. We left them note - FAVOR NO TIRA COSAS IN BASURA. Everyday some little (plastic forks and utenciles) things ended up being taken […] away. They also went through my clothes hanging in the closet and decided that some of them should be put in a "DO MY LAUNDRY" bag. I find this quite outrageos. The cleaning staff needs training. Other than that, they cleaned nicely. All other staff were excellent. There was another caviat at the chck -out time. They wanted to carge me some 800 Dom Rep. pesos for 2 phone call. PRIOR to asking front desk staff to place calls from their desk for me, I asked whether I will be charged and whether the calls were local. I was told - NOT TO worry, it is completely free. SO I refused to pay and asked the lady to pass my comment on. They were very nice giving us additional FREE internet usage. The beach near hotel is not swimmable, water contaminated, even though the did a wonderful job creating the GUIBIA beach, the sewage system in the city is still terrible and the beach is not of use. We had to get ourseves a driver and visited other beaches. Overall, I would recommend it for those who don't mind hiring a driver to go to beaches and those who enjoy meeting local people. Read more

It took us about 50 minutes to check in to the room. Three women at the desk and only 5 other guests in front of us......really really slow. On the minus side, internet is not free, there is a charge per day or per hour; valet parking is convenient but also has a daily charge; but there is free self-parking in the back. There is quite a wide range of nationalities visiting, and the casino is pretty nice. All in all, this is a terrific hotel, well located and as comfortable as they come at a reasonable price. I moved to the Hotel Jaragua from a smaller hotel in the colonial zone. I spent 6 days there, and explored everywhere but the casino. The food and service were good, the pool was nice and I enjoyed the view of the Caribbean Sea. I took advantage of a special at the spa for a massage and was very impressed. I was able to take advantage of an Expedia package that included the breakfast buffet and also Internet. This was a great deal vs the individual a la carte pricing from the hotel. Way to go Expedia!!! Not being a Spanish speaker, I sought help from the concierge/navigator many times during my stay (to order a pizza, to book a city tour, to help me schedule my transfer to the airport) and they were great. Honestly the staff and service is what bumped my overall rating from a 3 to a 4. On Christmas Eve they came to each room with a small plate of sweets for 'Felicidades Fiestas'. A small gesture that said a lot to me about their focus on guest satisfaction. Two nights during my stay the hotel had live music and dancing in the Casino theater. These events were advertised on local TV so a big deal and nice extra for guests at the hotel. Read more

The room and bathroom were dated--and supposedly they upgraded my room from a Garden room to their tower. (By the way, I'm a little suspicious about this because they wanted to charge me more for it, and when I said I wasn't interested, they said they would give it to me anyway because I was an American.) When we arrived, I was informed that I would have to pay for breakfast and wireless Internet access; it was a good thing that I had come prepared with a printout of my Expedia itinerary indicating that my reservation included both. The hotel fully took advantage of the fact that no restaurants would be open on Christmas Eve, and hence, charged "an arm and a leg" for dinner that evening. After drinking a bottle of wine I ordered, the waiter came over to inform me that the price was misprinted on the menu and he would have to charge me more. Of course, I did not agree to that and paid the menu price, but I think most people would agree that the restaurant's actions were extremely inappropriate and rude--and frankly, ruined my family's Christmas Eve dinner. The hotel charged a 10% fee to provide me with the equivalent of $100 when the ATM did not work. Read more
