"Great place to stay for a show at the Auditorium"
Room was impeccably clean, new, comfortable bed. Door did not shield hallway noise well. TV remote was a pain - very directional, but that is a small issue. Overall, staff were pleasant and helpful. Neat area of the city, lots of dinner venues to choose from within a block of the hotel. Can walk to the Auditorium.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location. Easy to access. Staff were knowledgable, friendly, and curteous. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms- nice finishes and decor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"good value, good location downtown"
just make sure you are in the renovated part of the hotel, which is quite nice, they are doing more renovations soon. The hotel staff were very nice & helpful. FWIW the continental breakfast is probably less than you expect - containers of yogurt, packaged muffins, some fruit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"'tween Park Ave and The Eastman School"
Currently under construction (August 2012) so there are no services and only 1 wing is complete. The room was nicely done. The TV was high quality and the linens were good. The neighborhood is fantastic. I am sure this will be a wonderful property when it is completed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in the midst of a turnaround. Only stay in the new deluxe rooms (the old rooms feel like a crack house). New rooms are terrific. Luxury bedding, nice decore, good setup all around. My 1 issue was that the air conditioner didn't work properly (and installation flaw by putting the thermostat too close to the unit's airflow. They need to fix […] that hotel wide. Other than that, good service, great room. Be advised that the hotel is in the middle of a renovation. When it's complete it will be a great brand in a perfect location. "Under construction, but still a nice stay."
I was pleased with the condition of my room even though the hotel was under construction. I am anxious to return after the renovations are complete. I must say the staff went above and beyond to serve me, they were more than helpful and that is a plus in these times of diminishing customer service!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice room. Amazingly soft bed, centrally located. Affordable. Will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"TINY with no ammenities"
I was lucky, had I arrived a day earlier I would've gotten an old dingy room. The day I arrived they started giving out new rooms even to 'online' bookings. (apparently they got in trouble). The room was new and clean but very tiny. only ONE chair, (for a double occupancy room). I asked for a microwave etc.. and they had suites but they didn't offer […] it to me, because the clerck 'didn't know HOW' to upgrade my room.... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
When we arrived we were informed that we were going to receive a free upgrade to a brand new room in the renovated area. Other than the understandable construction, the new room was beautiful and spotless. The pictures on this site don't show how updated the new rooms look. Brand new flat screen hi def wall mounted TV, nice new bed and very clean. The […] location is perfect - we walked around all night and hit every great bar in the Rochester area. I know the reviews on here were a bit harsh, and had me very skeptical, but I asked around after being so surprised at how great the stay was, and they're under new management. It shows. "Good location on East Avenue"
Very good location near entertainment but quiet inside. Free wi-fi and safe in the room a nice bonus, and all facilities in the room in a good condition. Would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and quaint"
The room was small but the beds were comfortable. It was fine for one night.Genuine Expedia guest review
The plumbing in our room was problematic. The toilet would not flush and tub would not drain. The management did fix this, but the problem reoccurred. Also, the tub had mildew. Also, I have a swallowing disorder and I take all my medication with yogurt. The staff disposed of my half eaten yogurt and then I could not take my medicine. I know you are […] fixing up the hotel, but when I told an employee that the toilet and tub had been fixed and then the problem reoccurred, he did not seem interested Not good. The hotel is remodelling. Smoke smelling evrywhere even we chose non-smoking room. It is dirty aneeds a lot of work. Hotel.com said there is no on-site parking, which was incorrect. There wer plenty of parking that the hotel used it to rent to the local people during the weekend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The East Ave Inn has the best location. All the sights are in a short distance. I stay here 2 times a year and Im always happy to be there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beware the Renovations!"
In the midst of whole scale renovations. Hotel rooms were stripped to the barest essentials. No mention was made of the transient condition of the room and the hotel in general. Rates did not reflect the reduced quality of the hotel. They were the same charged before the place was turned upside down for renovation. Very disappointing.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Disgustingly smokey NON smoking room- stay away"
I got in at 2am, exhausted. Got a non smoking room with the little plaque right on the door and it reeked. I was too tired to go back to change rooms. In the morning the person checking me out didn't seem the least bit phased about it and when I stopped responding to her she looked at me and started a litany of excuses including how she could sue the […] person who smoked in a non-smoking room....tooooooo late! I will never book there again and I go to that area on business 2 to 3 times per month. Stay away! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I have had the good fortune to travel the world and the East Ave Inn wasone of the worst hotels where I hav ever stayed. Besides the too being dirty and well worn, there were slamming doors with people running up and down the halls all night long. There was no plastic shower cap or I e bucket in the room. Such a shame because it's central location put […] it within walking distance of our destinations. I have great hopes for its future as it was apparent that serious revocations are underway. "Discusting, horrible, don't go there!"
When I got there the hall way smelled like Crack and Weed. Even though it says no smoking. The room smelled like old man and even though they put a sanitary "cover" on the toilet to say it was cleaned there were body fluids on the toilet I had to scrub off with soap. The beds were reused old Marriott beds and they were just disgusting. I will never […] ever go back there it was a serious hole. Plus someone kept calling my room the whole time I was there and then called at like 7:00 in the morning. HORRIBLE. And again when I left it smelled like drugs in the hall way. "Great Rochester location. Unacceptable conditions"
This hotel is truly in downtown Rochester, right by the most happening Alexander St. with restaurants and bars, and within walking distance from museums and the Eastman House. However, after I came home I discovered that I had been bitten by bed bugs, with 21 bites overall 16 of which were on my right arm. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to this […] hotel and have had to launder and clean all of my clothing as well as my own bedsheets etc. in fear of having brought any bugs back. The hotel was under construction, so perhaps this is temporary, but it absolutely unacceptable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"East Ave. Inn-Rochester review"
The room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and had cig. ashes on the window sill. We asked for another room and the night clerk moved us. The first room she showed us also smelled, but the third did not. I felt that the bed linens of the third room were not clean, but since we'd driven 1,000 miles in two days, I just slept on top of the covers in […] my clothes. We were awakened by pounding on a nearby door at 2:30 am and again at 3:00 am. The general manager was very polite and helpful the next day when we checked out. We were refunded our money for hte night's stay but would not risk staying at this motel again. Note: both the female night clerk and the daytime (gen, manager ) were very professional, polite and helpful, but the physical plant is a wreck, at least in part due to remodeling, but still a mess. "East Ave. Hotel"
I like this hotel. The only problems were sticky floors in the area with microwave and fridge and a bug that flew out of the blanket on the bed. "Filthy Hell Hole"
I can understand remodeling and even a bit run down in need of repair. I can not believe that it was never mentioned that the hotel was experiencing a large remodel of the lobby and varies portions of the building. I found the staff to be polite and cheerful however the cleaning staff must have been on vacation because my room which was run down was […] far from clean. Sticky stains on the bedside table, dirty hand marks on the door inside and out, and stains on the bedding that I was suppose to sleep on. I will not go into the stains on the sides of the box spring and the odor of the room which reminded me of human waste. I found it to be very unsettling that the smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag and sealed, there was so much wrong with this place. The final blow to this horrible experience was the bathroom. I found pubic hair on the commode where the lid and the seat met. There were pubic hairs on the wall next to the sink. I can understand many things but filth of this nature is beyond reasonable. I would not be surprised to hear that the board of health closed them down. A hotel of this nature is usually patronized by the hour. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A roof and a bed--Not much more..."
This property USED to be nice. Now, not so much. It is run-down with a seedy element comprising a good share of the guests. The halls were smokey and reeked of cigarettes and burning chemicals (drugs?) Doors slammed all night long and there was a loud, violent sounding altercation in the hall that went on some time. Later in the night, someone went […] from door to door trying to see if there were any open/unlocked rooms that they could get into. Due to low occupancy, they rent parking spaces to local club-goers. These individuals are largely 18-28, drinking heavily and do not foster a peaceful atmosphere around the hotel. In fact, it seems many seem to stay at this hotel for its proximity to these clubs and bars. Hotel staff said the property is "under renovation." However, it needs a total overhaul & I couldn't see where any work was in progress. Room did have small fridg & microwave. Central location and price are the only advantages of this hotel. "East End Mess"
The hotel was dirty and smelled of cigarettes. The air inside was musty and made me cough. While the people at the desk were nice, it was one of the worst hotels I had ever been to otherwise. Couldn't possibly recommend to anybody ever.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fine for passing through"
Fine for a night, but I wouldn't want to stay much longer than a weekend. Very friendly front desk personnel, although the lobby smelled of cigarettes and the weird glass doors to the 2nd floor hallway were a bit off-putting. I found a soda bottle cap under the bed, but otherwise the room was clean and comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"East Ave. Inn"
Our stay at the east avenue inn was based on its proximity to the Auditorium Theater, as we were seeing Billy Elliot that night. I went with friends and although check in was easy and friendly, when we arrived at our room it was clean but had seen better days. The walls had some sort of dried fluid running down the walls and the wall under the heater […] had been patched and not a good job of it to say the least. The windowsill had dead insects and dirt on it that appeared to have been there for quite a while. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small and not stocked with more than 3 Kleenex in the only box, the shower had just enough pressure to dribble water out the shower head, and the bath itself was just what I would call clean and nothing better. The free internet was useless; there were three of us, all with different makes of laptops including a MacBook Pro (by the way connected the best) and we all had difficulty with the connection and two of us gave up after trying for half an hour. After the show we retired to our room for a few drinks and then off to bed, or so we thought. I am not sure what was going on that weekend but the noise from the rooms to the right, left, and above us sounded like there was a battle of some sorts going on with load banging and other noise till well after 2:00am. I found this hotel at acceptable at best. Not a place to bring the wife and certainly not the kids. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"East Avenue Inn Downtown - Location, location....."
If you want to be walking distance to the local bars & restaurants in the East Ave. district in Rochester, this is the place to stay. "OK except for the drunk people.."
The hotel was ok - nothing fancy but I didn't expect that for the price. Everything was perfectly suitable in terms of cleanliness/facilities. The location was stellar. However - I do have one big complaint. We stayed there on a Friday and Saturday night, and both nights, some extremely drunk people staying in a room across the hall came back at around […] 3 in the morning yelling up and down the hallway, slamming doors really hard, etc. This was definitely loud enough to wake me up even from a post-wedding pass out. Obviously this isn't the hotel's fault, but the reception area was right down the hall and they didn't do anything - ask the people to quiet down, etc. It was incredibly disruptive and made it hard to get any good sleep. "Rough room in a decent location"
This was a very convenient location in downtown Rochester. There are several bars / restaurants within walking distance. The condition of the room left quite a bit to be desired.
