The resort was lovely and the whole family, from 17 y'/o to 97 y/o, thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The staff was attentive and always pleasant. The location on the beach, overlooking Catina Island in the distance, is magnificent, particularly at sunset.

Way too much money for what you get. Five star prices and no air conditioning? I know it's by the beach but our room was consistently warm and humid. It was also dirty. The conveniences just aren't there and the service was generally unresponsive. Our mini-fridge was disgusting, with an exploded soda can inside that ruined pretty much everything (all […] of which was completely frozen). Even the dinner at Splashes was disappointing. The food was pretty good (not great) but the service was downright awful. Our server was a spectacular combination of confused and condescending. Our room was beautiful and located right over the beach...amazing. But, since the room didn't have a/c, sleeping with the door open is a must...and the waves make it really hard to sleep. The surf wasn't very big, but the waves seem to shake the building, and your head.. The hotel provides ear plugs for this purpose, I guess.

overpriced. They closed their only pool for a conference reception. There is no air conditioning, leading to a hot room till the middle of the morning. The maid came at unusual times to clean up.

There were two issues, otherwise everything was great: 1) the phone in the room only lasted about 5 minutes due to a bad battery, 2) I ordered a bottle of pretty expensive wine via room service and the bottle was bad. It took an inordinate amount of time to get another bottle. When it was brought I was told that they weren't sure if the bottle was bad […] or it smelled bad because the glasses were dirty. view. At first the room appeared fine but on further inspection we found that the locking device to the liquor bar was archaic and in need of replacement. The railing on the balcony was unsecured and is a potential hazard. We noted that glasses were missing from the room as was wash cloths and a robe. Having complained to the front desk these items […] were replaced. Unfortunately due to the fact that the phone in the room did not work, I had to walk to the front desk to get these issues resolved. Another complaint that we reported to the front desk was the "Down" elevator call button on our floor did not work meaning we had to use the stair to access the lower level of the hotel.I did not expect that having ordered room service and leaving food on the table with the patio door open, i would be woken by pigeons in the room and food all over the floor. The management needs to address this issue with every guest. Read more

My wife, daughter (17) and I stayed at Surf & Sand for the Thanksgiving weekend - the goal was to get away and relax. This is one of the nicer hotels I have experienced - the ambiance is great, sort of a mix of 5-star atmosphere and beach casual; the room was very nice - right over the beach. The waves are very loud, which we liked, but it could be […] a minus for some. There are ear plugs next to your bed at night. There is a nice coffee shop next to a plush outdoor seating area adjacent to the lobby that has a fabulous view of the ocean and Catalina Island from about 6 stories up. We did not eat at the restaurant, but had a poolside lunch of fish tacos and burgers that was very good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return to the Surf and Sand - it;s not cheap, but it is a good value. Read more

We went for my partners Bday weekend and we were quite pleased with the property and the service. We had to wait a little longer than we expected upon check in but the complimentary champagne and chocolates did a lot to smooth that over. We had a Surfside category suite directly on the beach and it was very well appointed and had first class views. […] The balcony furniture was quite comfortable and was excellent for hours of people and wave watching. The only down side to this particular hotel was how expensive it was. In looking around at other hotel properties we walked by I think we stayed at the best , but as it often happens, you want the best you have to pay for it. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located directly on the water and most of the rooms have an ocean view of some kind. If you're used to the quiet of a farm, the ocean waves might keep you awake. Nice rooms, private balcony, sunset view, good food in room service, wonderful spa treatments and massages. Beautiful place. The sound of ocean waves folding right underneath balcony. Couldnt feel any closer to ocean than when staying in these rooms. I look forward to staying again. :O)

many hotels are listed as beachfront and ocean view. here the rooms are literally on top of the beach, at high tide the ocean is under your deck. rooms are modern and comfortable with outstanding views and the constant phonetic reminder of the ocean. southern laguna, so nice neighborhood but this is orange county, you need wheels dude.
