"A beautiful period hotel"
This grand old hotel dates from the beginning of the 20th c. It has grand public spaces and lobbies. It harkens to an era when one could live for weeks at a hotel like this, as it is truly full service. I amine that business and political leaders did set up temporary headquarters here from time to time. After falling on hard times after WWII, the hotel […] was refurbished in the 1980s and is just fabulous today. It's pretty expensive for the Richmond market, but if you are used to more expensive cities and nay staying a night or two, the high price tag (we paid about twice the going rate in Richmond for one night including valet parking) isn't really a problem, but it is worth mentioning! Overall, the place is great, and a real experience. Unlike many newer hotels. the Hotel Jefferson is truly memorable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Place to Stay!"
The Jefferson came highly rated by Mobil and AAA (Five Stars/Diamonds) and it definitely did not disappoint. The room was beautiful, the service and food were very good, and the Grand Ballroom is probably the nicest area inside a hotel I have ever seen. Gorgeous. Nice mini "History Museum" inside the ballroom telling all about the hotel and its history. […] I really liked the Alligator theme in the ballroom, the lobby, the front entrance, and the fountains in front of the hotel. I have stayed in Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons and The Jefferson is right up there. The only small complaint was concerning the free car service which is a nice touch however the one night we used it (to attend "Wicked" which was playing at the very nearby Altria Theater) the driver was late getting us from the hotel (we still made it on time) and wasn't there when the show ended (we walked back to the hotel since it is probably only a half mile away and it was a beautiful night to walk). This was only a minor issue as the rest of our stay was exceptional. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
our stay at this hotel was incredible. the staff was both helpful and friendly, the room neat and quiet, and the atmosphere amazing. our only regret was that we could only stay for one night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect as usual"
We love the Jefferson with all of it's little quirks (creaking floors). Nothing like sleeping in history.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The pick up and delivery to sights by the hotel bus/ limo at no charge was very convenientGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Memories are made of this"
We met up with family to celebrate a big birthday and staying at the Jefferson certainly made this a memorable event. The Christmas decorations were still up and they were fabulous. It is a Grand Hotel with exceptional service. A wonderful experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"visit to daughter at VCU for her birthday"
It was great! Wish we could have had the breakfast package- person selling the room's stay said there were no packages avail for the weekend, however I heard others at breakfast seemed to have a breakfast package. Also wish they'd offered some discount for a VCU person visiting their child, as they do Sun-Thurs. This might make me think about staying […] at the lower Doubletree nearby- but really want to stay at Jefferson due to atmosphere, service & comfort. consider a weekend discount - not quite as much as during the week, but incentive for this group of customers. thanks, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved the package. Food and Service were great but the room was a bit dirty and tired. Lot's of dust and spots on the carpeting in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Service and hospitality"
Beautiful vintage hotel complimented by exquisite service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Amazing place, my only complaint is that rooms are not soundproof. On Saturday night, weddings take over the hotel and we could not sleep because of the noise above us and down the hall. Great service, I'd stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Our family came from far and wide to celebrate Christmas together, gathering at The Jefferson. We had a delightful stay including opening presents by the beautiful Christmas tree! Worth the money if you are looking for a relaxing stay. As I was anticipating, service, quality and hospitalty was tastefully offered by gracious team members. Definitey staying any time in the future over another location. As someone in the hospitailty industry my husband and I were grateful to recieve such balanced and polished service. "The Jefferson Hotel - a must!"
We found this hotel, their staff, restaurants, et cetera, to be stellar. True southern hospitality and the hotel has an interesting history. Be sure to stay here when visiting Richmond and you will not regret your decision.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent hotel and great staff. Only criticism is that we felt that the main restaurant was expensive and that the food didn't live up to the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great hotel. Would recommend to friends and business contacts alike.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The friendliness & attentiveness of all staff was outstanding, within a few minutes of arriving all staff appeared to know our names and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is an impressive Victorian/Edwardian style, well maintained and impressively clean, yet modern. The room was adequate rather than impressive, but nonetheless fine. The quality […] of the food in the restaurant was also very good, without being too expensive. However, the most memorable feature of the hotel were its staff, they were outstanding.
A recommander.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A hotel that's simply beautiful"
07/20/14 J D Miami, Florida
The service we experienced was top notch. Yes, the rooms vary in size is this truly is a historic property. Our room had a curved wall, good windows and was simply divine. Other reviews are simply unfair to compare this to a hotel built within the last five or 10 years. Housekeeping and maintenance were well above average and certainly they have lots to look after. Read up on the history to enhance your visit I would highly recommend this historic hotel is a once-in-a-lifetime visit worth a trip to stay or more often if you are in Richmond again.
"Going back in time"

It is a grand hotel!! The restaurant inside is good, a bit pricey but it is worth not having to go outside and find some place to eat. The lobby takes you back in time and thinking what it would have been like during the grand balls etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful
"Great Property in Richmond"
07/17/14 jeff3545 Dallas
We had only one night in Richmond, and the Jefferson ended up being the highlight. The staff is quite friendly and highly competent at all levels. The hotel itself is a wonderfully restored Victorian treasure. I don't think I've seen anything like the two story atrium lobby. The bar is very pleasant and the Lemaire restaurant is a truly beautiful room (and excellent food and service at a price that will astonish big city dwellers.) We had an upgraded room which was spacious, but a not particularly well furnished. The bathroom however, was large and outstanding. The towels and linens were are high quality. This isn't a built for purpose Four Seasons or Ritz where everything meets the currently acknowledged five star standards, but instead a quirky old building where the staff manage to create a five star experience in rooms that are close enough. You could find issues, but then, you would be no fun. Just go and enjoy a great meal and nice stay in a wonderful place full of history.
"Grand Hotel with an Alligator Past"

This is the Grandest of Grand Hotels. We loved hearing the stories of alligators traveling up north from Florida. We loved cocktailing in the grand lobby. The staff was very friendly and professional. If your travels take you close to Richmond you must make this a stop. You will not be disappointed.
"Grand Hotel, just a few quirks"
07/11/14 MootHouse Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom
Stayed three days on the "summer at the Jefferson" offer. Nice idea to send an email requesting preferences before we arrived, although the results were slightly odd; our daughter stayed with us so we requested non-allergy bedding, but this resulted in the complete removal of the feather "comforters" on the beds with no replacements, so strangely the first night we were cold. The air conditioning was effective, but smelled of ionisation: that was efficiently fixed the next morning in both respects. In the first case I feel they should have used replacements or explained the proposal. The air conditioning issue was I guess on of those things, although it did spoil the first nights sleep. We found the mattresses a little uncomfortable compared with other top class hotels. The staff were lovely, Tommy the limousine driver took us to the Hollywood cemetary and the staff thoughtfully packed water bottles for us as it was a hot day; when we were picked up Tommy checked what we had got to see and then drove us to the section we missed, and gave a mini tour commentary, great! Room a little lacking in power outlets for all the technology we carry, wifi a little flaky from time to time, safe a little small (all that technology). Would prefer minibar empty and complementary waters for the room; also we like to have coffee making facilities in the room, ideally nespresso. Room quiet, good sized TV modert chioce of channels, but in house films too expenive at $13.99 which is much more than we pay to own a DVD or steam on line these days; a little out if touch, I feel. Valet parking smooth, although ideally they would turn on air conditioning for you as an option so the car is cooler. I have reviewed Lemair and TJs separately. The prices charged strangley did not match the prices quoted on the email booking. Good location in town, wonderful public spaces
"Grand, Historic, Luxurious"

Our three day stay in the Governor's Suite (Room 150) was wonderful from the moment we stepped into the grand lobby to the moment we drove away. The friendly and professional staff throughout the hotel made our time there all the more enjoyable - everyone seemed to genuinely care that our experience would be a good and memorable one. Lemaire restaurant was a hit both evenings for dinner and breakfast on Sunday morning. Fabulous ingredients, delicious and creative dishes, fun/interesting menu. Lunch at the more casual TJ's was equally enjoyed. Drinks al fresco - and dining offered outside too - was just lovely. It was an almost perfect stay except for the lack of Southern Comfort, which they no longer stock because no one drinks it (except my husband apparently!) :-) That small detail notwithstanding, we thoroughly recommend the gorgeous Jefferson Hotel for a break away from it all. It's a beautiful venue for a wedding too.

This beautiful Grand hotel built in 1895 was one of the best we have stayed at with our dog. Stained glass ceiling in the lobby, marble floors and spacious, well appointed rooms. Gracious, helpful & friendly staff.
"Grand & Beautiful with Great Restaurant"

This is one of the most grand hotels I've been to in my travels. It was absolutely stunning; I found myself taking pictures of its many details. I stayed on the top floor in a corner room. To my surprise, it was quite large, comfortable, and had a nice view! I have no complaints - the bed was comfortable, shower had adequate water pressure, everything was clean. The only strange thing about the staff was the constant push for their 'free shuttle service'. Every staff member you speak to will mention it at least once. Ironically, the two times we tried to use it, it was unavailable. Perhaps they should get more than one van if they want to make such a strong push? I did love the restaurant downstairs - it was perfect for our group of ten. Great wine list. Some of the food items had a bit of whimsy to them; such a surprise!

When we arrived at The Jefferson Hotel all of the staff were welcoming from the valet to the bellman to the desk clerk. They upgraded us to a suite, absolutely fabulous. Everything was perfect and immaculate. The decor was grand. We had a driver take us to Carytown and he was so personable, a joy to ride with. The views of Richmond at night from the room were outstanding. Wonderful, wonderful hotel.
"Grand Traditional Hotel"

The public areas of the hotel are exceptionally beautiful. Every aspect of the hotel are first rate from the staff to the room and amenities. The courtesy transportation to the dining/entertainment district was a nice touch and the driver couldn't have been more friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only disappointment was that the bar in the lower grand hall closed at 4pm. It would have been a very pleasant place for an evening cocktail.
