"A beautiful period hotel"
This grand old hotel dates from the beginning of the 20th c. It has grand public spaces and lobbies. It harkens to an era when one could live for weeks at a hotel like this, as it is truly full service. I amine that business and political leaders did set up temporary headquarters here from time to time. After falling on hard times after WWII, the hotel […] was refurbished in the 1980s and is just fabulous today. It's pretty expensive for the Richmond market, but if you are used to more expensive cities and nay staying a night or two, the high price tag (we paid about twice the going rate in Richmond for one night including valet parking) isn't really a problem, but it is worth mentioning! Overall, the place is great, and a real experience. Unlike many newer hotels. the Hotel Jefferson is truly memorable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Place to Stay!"
The Jefferson came highly rated by Mobil and AAA (Five Stars/Diamonds) and it definitely did not disappoint. The room was beautiful, the service and food were very good, and the Grand Ballroom is probably the nicest area inside a hotel I have ever seen. Gorgeous. Nice mini "History Museum" inside the ballroom telling all about the hotel and its history. […] I really liked the Alligator theme in the ballroom, the lobby, the front entrance, and the fountains in front of the hotel. I have stayed in Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons and The Jefferson is right up there. The only small complaint was concerning the free car service which is a nice touch however the one night we used it (to attend "Wicked" which was playing at the very nearby Altria Theater) the driver was late getting us from the hotel (we still made it on time) and wasn't there when the show ended (we walked back to the hotel since it is probably only a half mile away and it was a beautiful night to walk). This was only a minor issue as the rest of our stay was exceptional. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect as usual"
We love the Jefferson with all of it's little quirks (creaking floors). Nothing like sleeping in history.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Memories are made of this"
We met up with family to celebrate a big birthday and staying at the Jefferson certainly made this a memorable event. The Christmas decorations were still up and they were fabulous. It is a Grand Hotel with exceptional service. A wonderful experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"visit to daughter at VCU for her birthday"
It was great! Wish we could have had the breakfast package- person selling the room's stay said there were no packages avail for the weekend, however I heard others at breakfast seemed to have a breakfast package. Also wish they'd offered some discount for a VCU person visiting their child, as they do Sun-Thurs. This might make me think about staying […] at the lower Doubletree nearby- but really want to stay at Jefferson due to atmosphere, service & comfort. consider a weekend discount - not quite as much as during the week, but incentive for this group of customers. thanks, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved the package. Food and Service were great but the room was a bit dirty and tired. Lot's of dust and spots on the carpeting in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Service and hospitality"
Beautiful vintage hotel complimented by exquisite service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Amazing place, my only complaint is that rooms are not soundproof. On Saturday night, weddings take over the hotel and we could not sleep because of the noise above us and down the hall. Great service, I'd stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Christmas at The Jefferson"
Our family came from far and wide to celebrate Christmas together, gathering at The Jefferson. We had a delightful stay including opening presents by the beautiful Christmas tree! The staff was always available and friendly. We will reflect on our memories of Christmas at The Jefferson with fondness and will remember the special moments for a long, […] long time. Thank you! Excellent hotel and great staff. Only criticism is that we felt that the main restaurant was expensive and that the food didn't live up to the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great hotel. Would recommend to friends and business contacts alike.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The friendliness & attentiveness of all staff was outstanding, within a few minutes of arriving all staff appeared to know our names and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is an impressive Victorian/Edwardian style, well maintained and impressively clean, yet modern. The room was adequate rather than impressive, but nonetheless fine. The quality […] of the food in the restaurant was also very good, without being too expensive. However, the most memorable feature of the hotel were its staff, they were outstanding. "We Were Royalty !!!!"

Happen to catch a glimpse of this magnificent hotel on TV and was intrigue to find out more. Once I saw the history, it was a must stop on our travels down south. From the moment we arrived to the second we left we were treated like royalty from every member of the friendly and courteous staff. The room was decorated with retrained taste which gave the surroundings an elegant feel. The restaurant was fine dining at its best giving us a culinary treat that we had never experienced before. It will be on our future travel plans
"Not worth it"
10/11/14 Phillip J Trenton, New Jersey
Why is it so expensive to stay here? The rooms are like shoe boxes, unless you shell out an absurd amount of money to get a bigger room. The layout of the floors is confusing. Front desk staff, overall extremely rude. Concierge staff was hit or miss. Dealt with a doorman who could not hardly give me any information, and what I could understand of what he did say was completely wrong. Had to double check with a valet before I drove off because of the doorman's inability to communicate. Had a great experience with 2 different bellmen, seemed to be 2 of the better employees in the whole building. Drivers during the week were so-so, I was picked up by a valet driving a hotel car one night because apparently the driver was too "busy." When we arrived back at the hotel the driver was just parked in the circle, didn't seem too busy for me. Overall, not impressed. If you want to see the hotel while you're in Richmond, drive up, park on the street and walk in. That's certainly what all the homeless and somewhat mentally unstable in Richmond seem to do. Asked my company not to put me up here again, it's just not worth it. Honestly I'd rather stay at one of the nicer, newer hotels in the city.
"A jewel in the city, if you don't stay here stop in and visit anyway"
10/09/14 BambooH2O Virginia Beach, Virginia
The Jefferson Hotel is a classic. Located in the heart of Richmond it provides a modern walk into an era past. The interior lobby and rotunda areas are what you see first upon entering the hotel and they are magnificent examples of architecture no one can afford to build today. They are breathtaking and beautifully maintained. These alone are worth a visit. The rest of the hotel is as well done and has quite a history. Both the bar areas are classic examples of old school elegance. Although we didn't eat at the restaurant, it has a stellar reputation as well. The layout of our room was unique and well thought out. In addition, the room was in excellent condition and had all the expected amenities. Internet access was a breeze. The staff, room service included, were friendly and very helpful. The Jefferson keeps getting excellent reviews and they are well deserved. This one is truly a jewel in the City and I hear Christmas time is icing on the cake. Put this on your list and don't miss out.
"Best Sunday Brunch"
10/09/14 ConnieH440 Syracuse, New York
If you are in the Richmond area over the weekend you MUST go here for brunch! Historic marble interior, white linens and Southern Gentleman in bow ties. Champagne brunch with all you would expect and more. Southern specialties like spoon bread, grits, pecan pie, in a gorgeous setting ice sculpture included. Reservations a must, ask for a table on the same level as the buffet. We didn't know this, and had a mezzanine table which means going up & down the elevator with your food.
"Can See Why this is a Five Diamond Hotel"
10/05/14 Riderbill ST ALBERT
This is overall an excellent hotel with facilities and service that are exceptional. Kudos to the concierge staff ( Gibson, Jeanita, and Jesse and Ross) for excellent service and their kind hospitality. This is the best concierge staff I have ever encountered in some 35 years of travelling. Our room was above average ( and the price was right and showed good value with my AAA discount) would like to try a suite or more upscale room the next time we visit just to get a better flavour of how prestigious this facility is. The fitness room was probably the best I have seen in a hotel, and would rival a lot of stand alone fitness centres. The Sunday brunch was the best I ever had and the service at the Brunch, Tj"s and Lemaire top rate. The prices were not outrageous considering the facility quality of food and service. The only issue we had was when we arrived on late Saturday nite, the nite bellman did not use a cart to take our luggage nor did he open any doors for us. Somewhat surprising considering the quality of this facility.
"Grand Hotel from a Gracious Era"
10/04/14 R K Woodbridge, Virginia
Truly a "Gone With The Wind" venue. We come often just to treat ourselves and relax. Easter and Mother's Day buffets shouldn't be missed! Love the rooms, Nice pool, spa, several places to eat. Despite that, the staff can be spotty.. Most are friendly and try to make your stay even nicer, but a few are inattentive and act like you are an interruption! Managers are great and quick to respond though. We still love it!
"A yearly tradition!"
10/03/14 Tina S Luray, Virginia
We stayed at The Jefferson 21 years ago on our wedding night and have made it a yearly tradition since 2008. It is beautiful and so very friendly. We have never had bad experience. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms in the studio suites are amazing! The bedding is so very soft and the pool is a lovely treat. We came with our 3 children around Christmas and it is even wonderful for families. I cannot say enough positive things about this Richmond gem!
"what an amazing gem!"
10/03/14 Laura M Paoli, Pennsylvania
my husband and i stayed here on our way to visiting my parents in NC. All I can say is that I wish we had way more time to fully enjoy this hotel. We checked in late (at 10pm) and walked through the gorgeous entrance and lobby. I loved the statue of Thomas Jefferson and the couches that surrounded it. I learned that this also functions as a tea house. So cool! On our way to our room, we came across the grand staircase (wow!). We were hungry and just made it to the restaurant/bar for something to eat. The service and the food was great. The drink choices were neat and very tasty. Our room was fantastic! We couldn't believe how big it was. The minibar had a variety of choices. The bed and the multiple pillows were comfortable. We had breakfast the next morning at the other restaurant and the food was amazing. A few negative things - lots of emergency vehicle activity overnight since we were in the heart of downtown. I heard several sirens throughout but we're used to it living in a city ourselves. According to my husband, the shower head wasn't the greatest but it did the job. I was surprised there wasn't a fan in the bathroom to help with steam. We also had to pay to park in their lot a block down. Really? Regardless, we definitely plan on staying here again.
"A stunning hotel HOWEVER."
10/02/14 redmanfloridapvb florida
The hotel's public spaces are, to say the least, SPECTACULAR . When I saw the lobby the great hotels of Atlantic City built in the early 1900s came to mind. The Roosevelt in NOLA , Omni Penn Plaza in Pittsburgh or the Fairmont in Quebec are similar but not as grand as the Jefferson. However the rooms are terrible. We had a one bedroom suite that had a view of a gravel roof, floors uneven and squeaks when walking upon. Decor was bland, bedding was way to soft.We needed to speak to the front desk for turn down service that was not done until 9 PM. Also had to wait 25 min for bellman to send someone for our bags. If management wants see how a hotel room restoration should be done, stay at the Ritz in Montreal. A special thank you to Maria at the front desk a real professional .
"A beautiful building - historical opulence."
09/27/14 Jacqui B Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Truly a magnificent property - beautiful decor and historical ambience. It truly would rival many and win. The grand staircase is what they fashioned Gone with the Wind from and you can see why. The staff was very pleasant and attentive but you are hard pressed to find one that smiles; across the many we encountered throughout the hotel or restaurant, there were less than a handful. This is, as the locals said, "the place to come for Easter brunch or a bridal shower". We cancelled our reservations and went to Weezie's in Carytown and enjoyed local more casual fare. Obviously, it would provide a decadent backdrop for a wedding however as a hotel, it was the property you were paying for, not the room(s). Be warned, the rooms are quite small and the walls even thinner (as we unfortunately we privy to the amorous couple in the room adjacent ours). However, the bed and linens, divine! The onsite restaurant's food equally as delicious.
