"A beautiful period hotel"
This grand old hotel dates from the beginning of the 20th c. It has grand public spaces and lobbies. It harkens to an era when one could live for weeks at a hotel like this, as it is truly full service. I amine that business and political leaders did set up temporary headquarters here from time to time. After falling on hard times after WWII, the hotel […] was refurbished in the 1980s and is just fabulous today. It's pretty expensive for the Richmond market, but if you are used to more expensive cities and nay staying a night or two, the high price tag (we paid about twice the going rate in Richmond for one night including valet parking) isn't really a problem, but it is worth mentioning! Overall, the place is great, and a real experience. Unlike many newer hotels. the Hotel Jefferson is truly memorable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Place to Stay!"
The Jefferson came highly rated by Mobil and AAA (Five Stars/Diamonds) and it definitely did not disappoint. The room was beautiful, the service and food were very good, and the Grand Ballroom is probably the nicest area inside a hotel I have ever seen. Gorgeous. Nice mini "History Museum" inside the ballroom telling all about the hotel and its history. […] I really liked the Alligator theme in the ballroom, the lobby, the front entrance, and the fountains in front of the hotel. I have stayed in Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons and The Jefferson is right up there. The only small complaint was concerning the free car service which is a nice touch however the one night we used it (to attend "Wicked" which was playing at the very nearby Altria Theater) the driver was late getting us from the hotel (we still made it on time) and wasn't there when the show ended (we walked back to the hotel since it is probably only a half mile away and it was a beautiful night to walk). This was only a minor issue as the rest of our stay was exceptional. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect as usual"
We love the Jefferson with all of it's little quirks (creaking floors). Nothing like sleeping in history.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Memories are made of this"
We met up with family to celebrate a big birthday and staying at the Jefferson certainly made this a memorable event. The Christmas decorations were still up and they were fabulous. It is a Grand Hotel with exceptional service. A wonderful experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"visit to daughter at VCU for her birthday"
It was great! Wish we could have had the breakfast package- person selling the room's stay said there were no packages avail for the weekend, however I heard others at breakfast seemed to have a breakfast package. Also wish they'd offered some discount for a VCU person visiting their child, as they do Sun-Thurs. This might make me think about staying […] at the lower Doubletree nearby- but really want to stay at Jefferson due to atmosphere, service & comfort. consider a weekend discount - not quite as much as during the week, but incentive for this group of customers. thanks, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved the package. Food and Service were great but the room was a bit dirty and tired. Lot's of dust and spots on the carpeting in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Service and hospitality"
Beautiful vintage hotel complimented by exquisite service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Amazing place, my only complaint is that rooms are not soundproof. On Saturday night, weddings take over the hotel and we could not sleep because of the noise above us and down the hall. Great service, I'd stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Christmas at The Jefferson"
Our family came from far and wide to celebrate Christmas together, gathering at The Jefferson. We had a delightful stay including opening presents by the beautiful Christmas tree! The staff was always available and friendly. We will reflect on our memories of Christmas at The Jefferson with fondness and will remember the special moments for a long, […] long time. Thank you! Excellent hotel and great staff. Only criticism is that we felt that the main restaurant was expensive and that the food didn't live up to the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great hotel. Would recommend to friends and business contacts alike.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The friendliness & attentiveness of all staff was outstanding, within a few minutes of arriving all staff appeared to know our names and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is an impressive Victorian/Edwardian style, well maintained and impressively clean, yet modern. The room was adequate rather than impressive, but nonetheless fine. The quality […] of the food in the restaurant was also very good, without being too expensive. However, the most memorable feature of the hotel were its staff, they were outstanding. "A beautiful building - historical opulence."
09/27/14 Jacqui B Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Truly a magnificent property - beautiful decor and historical ambience. It truly would rival many and win. The grand staircase is what they fashioned Gone with the Wind from and you can see why. The staff was very pleasant and attentive but you are hard pressed to find one that smiles; across the many we encountered throughout the hotel or restaurant, there were less than a handful. This is, as the locals said, "the place to come for Easter brunch or a bridal shower". We cancelled our reservations and went to Weezie's in Carytown and enjoyed local more casual fare. Obviously, it would provide a decadent backdrop for a wedding however as a hotel, it was the property you were paying for, not the room(s). Be warned, the rooms are quite small and the walls even thinner (as we unfortunately we privy to the amorous couple in the room adjacent ours). However, the bed and linens, divine! The onsite restaurant's food equally as delicious.

We stayed here a year ago for our anniversary and will return again. We love Richmond, visit frequently, and had to do the Jefferson Experience. The exterior is so neat (with the alligator) and the lobby is a sight to behold. The classic decor in the hotel and rooms are second to none. The amenities are first-rate.

Even though I was just a guest...not part of the bridal party....the staff could not have been more helpful. I wanted to get my hair done but the hotel salon was booked. So what did the staff do? For just me! They called a local salon who opened on a Sunday morning, just for me. No idea how to get there? Not an issue...the hotel car and driver were waiting at the door to take me there and back. No charge. Now, for some of you that might be an ordinary thing, but it made me feel like a princess. Unforgettable. And so was the hotel itself - gorgeous. Rooms beautifully furnished. A memorable experience all around.
"Restaurant Very Disappointing"
09/26/14 Dustin F Liberty, Missouri
Went on a Thursday night with three of my coworkers. Service was ok at best. Waitress was on the ball right away but later walked by my empty tea glass several times without asking if I wanted a refill. We all agreed the food took a long time to come out and we all joked about how small the portions were. I got the swordfish with mushrooms and cream corn. Food was tasty but again very small portions and expensive. Hotel was beautiful but won't be dining at restaurant again.
Hotel is conveniently located,in Richmond. Not a nice surrounding area. The room was small with no view, rooftop view. Pool area was nice, very clean. Breakfast was included in the package. Food was very good, service not. Same thing for the restaurant for dinner, very slow service, bread tasted stale, food was o.k. The hotel has an amazing history. Worth a visit.

We had stayed at The Jeffferson around 15 years ago and it was grandious. Now a days it is beyond words. The service is impeccable. We had an incredible experience dining at their restaurant Lemaire. The suite was spacious, immaculate and done in such exquisite taste. I cannot tell you enough. The employees have a wonderful smile on their faces and cannot do enough to please their guests. The historical aspect adds to all the splendor that this charming hotel has. My husband and I are hoteliers and know a top hotel when we see one, the Jefferson is tops in every way. Enjoy your stay!
"perfect in some ways, needs help in others"
09/16/14 heyjudithz Knoxville, Tennessee
The Jefferson is an absolutely stunning, classy hotel which has not lost its Southern Charm. The bell staff, all except for one young man, are perfect. I was impressed with the gentleman from Haiti, who made my first impression of the hotel a great one. As to my negative bell staff experience, I inquired as to a bottle of water when I was leaving the hotel, as I had been told to ask at the bell stand. He said, "Yes, we have it - it's over there." Then he proceeded to participate in what I could only assume was a very important conversation with another bellman. The car service is excellent, and the weekday-only driver was the best of their already great department. One concierge was sort of helpful; I got the idea we irritated him with our questions at times. All of the female concierges were great, especially Hanna. One hostess at their TJs restaurant was super-attentive; the other acted bored and didn't seem interested in whether or not we got a table. Hayley of TJs is perfect and is a credit to the hotel. The housekeeping was great, all except for the one day that our room was ignored completely. This is avoidable, people! The dining room is impressive, with excellent service and food. Ditto for the bar. This area is under control. All of my observations inform me that communication is sorely lacking in this beautiful establishment. I can be in a hotel for ten minutes and tell you the basic philosophy of the General Manager; The Jefferson was no exception. If they could get some consistent and serious employee training, this could be a true five-star hotel. Otherwise, get rid of people who don't appear to want to work there.
"Classic hotel with modern luxury"

Stayed just one night for business. Upgraded to a deluxe king which had clearly been upgraded since my last stay about a year ago. Room had brand new bedding, pillows, lighting and art. Bathroom upgraded completely as well with in mirror TV, Molton Brown toiletries and a huge tub. Room was huge and perfectly appointed. Hotel was slow since it was a Sunday night but I was very pleased with everything. If you have to travel for business it is better to stay in a place with some history rather than a cookie cutter chain. Try it!
"The Jefferson Hotel"
This is an historic hotel in Richmond. I did not have a room here, I only came to visit it with a friend. It is a beautiful historic hotel with a great charm. It is a also an historical landmark. If you come to Richmond, come to visit this beautiful hotel too.
"History and Hospitality"

The Jefferson is one of those grande dames of American hotels. The view from either the top or the bottom of its grand staircase is breathtaking. The guest list of its 120 years reads like an American history book -- a couple dozen presidents, stars like Frank Sinatra and Elvis, and the queen of England have lodged here. The staff is knowledgable and eager to be helpful, the halls have a museum quality and the gourmet dining room has all the modern touches of artful cuisine within the stately walls. The old lady is in fine shape for its age, even if a few rooms could use updated baths. We had a great brief stay and classic dinner and now plan to return soon for a full Richmond long weekend.
