Booked a "waterside" room. Was told that they didn't have any waterside rooms when I checked in. Room had a view of a lighted walkway tunnel and some buildings! Hated the view but I did ask for and received free buffet breakfast and parking. Nt interested in staying at this hotel again.

Typical Marriott. I'm not fond of Marriotts and the room decor was not quite Motel 6. Also, staff was not particularly helpful about getting me into a room a little early (many hotels I use will knock themselves out to get me a room if I've just come in from a red-eye). It would have been nice to have a disclaimer that the hotel was undergoing an overhaul before I booked my room. There I nothing like spending your first day off in over a month getting woken up by several fire alarms and hammering in the room above. It took three tries to get a room that wasn't next to noisy mechanical equipment that was loud inside the room.One room was directly over the HVAC equipment for the entire hotel. Very nice hotel and room. Great restaurant (Shula's) at the hotel. Waterfront attractions in walking distance as is the Granby St restaurants, bars and clubs - easy to party till late and be close enough to walk to the hotel. Wells Theater also in walking distance as is MacArthur mall. I'll stay here again.

This hotel has a great location in downtown Norfolk. I needed an early check-in which was given to me without a problem. The room was pretty clean with the exception of a couple drink rings on the furniture and the remote to the TV was grubby, but the beds were clean, NO BEDBUGS, and the pillows and comforters very comfortable for sleeping. Upon check-in I mentioned that it was my son's birthday and about 30 minutes after we arrived we get a knock on the door from room service - and surprise! The front desk clerk sent up a pint of Hagen-Daz ice cream nestled in a bed of ice with a pretty little bowl and couple of spoons, and two Pepsi colas. Inside was a nice card with birthday wishes for my son (he is 11) and boy was he excited! So the few shortcomings with the room were more than made up for by the thoughtfulness of the staff. We attended the 25th Annual Town Point Wine Fest and decided to make it a full weekend. We selected the Marriott Waterside because it is located across the street from the festival. Service at check-in and check-out was super and our room was very comfortable and clean.

Not enough valet parking spaces. Better to arrive early to get valet service or park your car in one the nearby garages. Which can be a problem if there is an event going on during your stay.

My time at the Norfolk waterside Marriott was very good. The staff were courteous, personable, and willing to accomodate us during our stay. The Hotel's proximity to the mall and to other restaurants was great. The one thing I would be careful about is at checkout - when everyone is trying to leave the elevators stay full, so be prepared to see around […] three full elevators before you can get on one. There were multiple events taking place during the weekend of our stay, but none hampered or deterred our opinion of the hotel itself. The housekeeping,restaurants and event coordinators were fabulous, very pleasant and did not act as if our requests were unreasonable. There were no refrigerators in the room and we had to ask for one from the front […] desk. The front desk personnel were rude. For example, they were on the defensive rather than the offensive. When we asked for a lock box, the reply was not apologetic but was "we don't have any!" We had to prode for a reason. When asked for a roll out bed, we were told "the entire state of Virginia does not allow for roll out beds and you will not recieve one because it is against the fire code." In the hotel service book located in the room, it clearly states to ask the front desk for a roll out bed if we need one. Only one person at the lobby desk was helpful in assisting us in directions to a local event. Lastly, when we were checking out, we did receive a receipt under our door the morning of check out, but we wanted to ensure we were checked out properly. The front desk person saw our receipt with a zero balance and again with a snappy, rude tone said, "why are you here for?" We said, to check out. He replied in the same snappy, rude tone, "you have this, you don't need to check out." Front desk personnel need additional training on customer service skills. Read more

I was quite dissapointed upon arrival due to the fact that they didn't let us check in until quarter after five when check in is supposed to be at four. We had a few minor problems that were beyond the hotels control .... like no tv for instance but that was the sattelite companies fault. As for everything else it was great. Location was great and within walking distance of almost everything. GREAT!!! would stay there again.

Very comfortable and quiet room! Just what I needed before an important interview. The room service was fast and tasty. Enjoyed the exercise room all to myself in the morning (I loved that it was open 24 hours). Try the private hot tubs outside! Valet parking was very convenient, especially if you have luggage.
