We loved that this hotel was in close proximity to the train station, and that it has quite a lot of personality in terms of decor! Our room was super cute, and very clean. The staff was wonderful, and you can borrow bicycles for a deposit, which was awesome! We rode the bicycles all over town, and they definitely allowed us to see more of Salzburg […] than we would have been able to on foot. Just a short walk or ride from Old Town, Villa Carlton lets you take in all of the charm without swarms of tourists all over the place. Lovely clean hotel with helpful staff who speak excellent English. Close to train station and reasonable places to eat. Breakfast, while pricey, was very good. Staff arranged a tour for us as well as suggested places to eat within walking distance. Rooms are nice size and so is the bathroom.

This hotel is a solid, yet scenic walk to the old town and a good selection of restaurants. Walking distance to the train station. Our only complaint was we did not get our requested wake up call the morning we left. Thankfully we didn’t miss our train.

This hotel was fantastic in nearly every respect except two: no AC and a bit noisy since we had to open the windows. It was quite warm when we went to Salzburg (in the low 90s and 80s). It was too warm for comfort and with no AC it was all we could do to cool off with floor fans and open windows. If its lower than 80outside I'd say this place would […] be ok, but if you're used to AC be warned. Our windows faced the main street on the side of the hotel and since we had to have them open for a breeze all night, things could get a bit noisy when a large vehicle or ambulance went by. These to issues aside it was a great place with a great location near the Kongress (where the meeting was). It's not quite central compared with the old city, but still south of the tracks. Anyway, the staff was great, the room was large and clean, and the bathroom was asequate for 3 people. If it had not been so hot I think this hotel would be full stars. Read more

We loved our stay at the Villa Carlton. The hotel and rooms were clean, modern, seemed recently updated, and very comfortable. We really enjoyed the modern and somewhat quirky design choices. We had a room in the back of the hotel (room 211) and it was quiet with a nice view of some trees and the hills in the distance. Our friends stayed in a room that […] faced the main road in the front (room 208) and it was a bit noisier due to traffic. There was an elevator to get to the 2nd floor. The beds were quite comfortable. We had a double room which had two twin beds together. I don’t think there was air conditioning, but it was so cold outside that we didn’t notice it. We loved the shower both in design and function - it was spacious, great water pressure and even had a shelf for our shampoo, etc. Very well thought out. This hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the old part of town. You walk along the river and take a pedestrian bridge to the sights. It’s a lovely walk. We walked home on a Sunday night and still felt safe in the neighborhood despite the fact that the streets were not well-populated. If you want to stay directly in the old part of town, then this is not the hotel for you. There were about 10-15 parking spots for the hotel, but you had to pay and extra 9 euros. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room, it was 14 euros per person. This was by far the most expensive breakfast fee we saw on our trip. We had a car so we skipped breakfast (which seemed to be the usual of meats, cheeses, cereals, coffee, and breads) and drove to a bakery. The bakery was probably a 20 minute walk from the hotel away from the old city, but it was on our way out of town. There was free internet in the room that worked fairly well. The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. All spoke English. They provided directions, a map, and dinner recommendations. Coffee and tea is available at the reception bar for a small fee. Here are just a couple of quick points: - Hotel about a 15 minute walk to the center of Salzburg to get any food or see any sites - Hotel is been renovated and looks very nice - Front desk staff typical of Austria and are not over the top nice but will give you any information you need - Rooms do not have air conditioning and with having to leave windows […] open lots of traffic in the morning will be loud - Bed a bit stiff and uncomfortable, only one pillow given to sleep on - Bathroom very nice and spacious, but only one towel per person was left to be used - No iron left in room for guest use - Breakfast 14 Euro a per person - Free internet usage a big plus Overall I was satisfied with my stay, but be aware I am a Hilton Diamond member as I stay in Hilton properties over 60 times a year so I am a bit biased in service levels and perks. Short waling distance from train station. Near park and short walk from hotel to Mozart's apartment. Easy walk to historic downtown area. Very quiet. Only complaint about the very modern room the bath did not have a shower curtain or door but it did have a hose mounted on the wall (typical European setup). DON'T LET THE TITLE FOOL YOU, THIS IS A STUNNING HOTEL, RECENTLY REMODELED AND WALKING DISTANCE TO ALL THE MUST SEE AND DO SITES IN SALZBURG. THE ROOMS WE HAD WERE WAY ABOVE EXPECTATION, ROOMY AND SPACIOUS, THE BATHTUB WAS A LITTLE HIGH AND SOMEWHAT A CHALLENGE TO GET IN AND OUT OF, GREAT WATER PRESSURE AND LOTS OF HOT WATER. THE LOBBY WAS WONDERFUL […] FOR GATHERING BEFORE DINNER AND THE PATIO WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL FOR AFTER DINNER SOCIALIZING. This hotel is located in a very quiet neighborhood and a walking distance to any major Salzburg attractions. We, three of us (with two of my sisters), stayed in a suite room (2 separate rooms/with a shared bathroom) for 2 nights. The front desk was extremely friendly and helpful in directing us. A gated parking space is available for free and Wi-Fi […] is free. Although there is no restaurant in the hotel, they provided us with nice breakfast. Many decent restaurants are within a walking distance, say 400m or so. Our room was very clean and very comfortable to stay. Every time we walked into the hotel, a full size, Oscar (Villa Carlton's mascot made of plastic) greeted us with a big bow. Anybody can enjoy their stay in this hotel. Remember, there is no reason to pay for two rooms if your are in 3 or 4 -- just get one suite if available! In any event, we enjoyed our stay. Read more

I think the location of the hotel is good. It's very close to Mirabell Garden and the Salzburg HBF station and slightly longer walk to the historic town centre of Salzburg. For three girls travelling to Salzburg for a sightseeing and shopping holiday the Villa Carlton was a well located, modern and friendly place to chill out and relax. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern, the only downside being lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room itself. Drinks could be ordered from the bar but it was a bit of a trek […] to the reception from the fourth floor - a connecting phone would have been useful. The room also included a safe that required no deposit to use which was good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. The breakfast was good but expensive for what it was (mainly continental) but there were many other local places to grab a bite for a lot cheaper. On websites the hotel suggests that breakfast must be ordered when booking but this is not the case, we only paid for one breakfast that we had during our stay. The hotel has a small bar area located in the lobby which was funky and comfortable but right in front of the reception desk so it wasn't too cosy. However the bar stocked a good range of drinks that were fairly reasonable. I would certainly recommend the hotel to others who are looking for a trendy and friendly place to stay. Read more
