This Econco Lodge served our purpose. We wanted a clean room with Queen sized beds and a roll away (no extra charge and brought promptly to our room!). We didn't want to pay more than necessary. We were there for an Univ. of IA event and it is 25 min to the University. When we pulled up it appeared to be fine. The check in was simple. However we noticed stains on the hallway carpet. When we went into our room we found that the bathroom had not been adequately cleaned and had grease on the shower head (like a construction worker had moved the head). We also noticed that there was no hair dryer in the room. I wasn't originally planning on staying at a hotel, but because my flight got in about 10 hours later than it was supposed to, I decided to stay here because it was cheap and close to the airport. It was really frustrating when I got there (late at night) and the lady at the front desk didn't know how to access my reservation because everything was […] 'backed up' for the night. After an exhausting day of chaos at the airport, I had to stand in the lobby for another half hour waiting for the lady to figure out how to solve the problem. I also wasn't happy that they didn't even have basic guest necessities, like toothpaste, available at the front desk. The hotel needs complete renovation. The tub had chipped paint, the carpet was dirty, the bathroom door had holes in it where a garment hanger must have been and there were stains all down the door........it goes on and on.

Except for seeing the laundry draped over the lobby furniture in the morning and the night clerk sitting in the lobby eating, with his shoes kicked up on the furniture ... it was a pleasant stay. The room was clean and comfy and I would stay there again.

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel with and indoor pool to break up our 8 hour drive. The bathroom area was filthy. The towels were stained. The hallway smelled like a pack of cigarettes even though we requested non smoking. Next time I'll spend a few extra dollars for a nicer place.

We stayed one night during the Olympic Trials (Iowa City) and the room definitely served it's purpose. The bath fixtures were worn but that really did not bother us at all. The bed was comfortable enough and the room smelled fresh. Nice little pool and small lobby area to relax and watch the kids swim from. When checking into the hotel the clerk gave me misguided directions so i walked up stairs to walk the length of the hotel to walk downstairs to walk back the same way I came. As soon as I opened my door the smell was of musty old air. The bathroom door had been damaged at some point and was just an eyesore. When we went swimming there were no towels in the pool area, the clerk brought some after my wife asked. I understand that the price of the hotel was cheap but EconoLodge will not be getting any business from myself or my friends. The free breakfast was disappointing. Kinda gross. Smelly, and a bit run down. I think we could have found a different one for about the same price that was kept up a little better. The complimentary breakfast looked so unappealing we didn't even try it. We aren't even very picky when it comes to hotels - look at them as a place to sleep, and that's it.

Our room was not what we expected.  Let me count the ways...there was a hole (about 2 1/2") in the bathroom door; there was obvious water damage to the ceiling in the bathroom, most likely from a leak in the bathroom above us; the paint in the bath tub was peeling; the toilet tank top was broken at each end, exposing a sharp edge immediately above the […] flush handle and there was dried bodily fluid on the bottom sheet of the bed.
