"Historic Hotel next door to the Alamo"
A beautiful well maintained hotel beside the Alamo. Also adjacent to the River Center Mall. The touring tram stops outside the hotel all day. The Menger bar is very cozy and inviting. We only had drinks there. My room was in the old section of the hotel and was just perfect for one person. The hotel staff was warm and extremely helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
Perfect location right next to the Alamo and River Walk. Rooms and hotel were in great shape while still maintaining the historic feel. Only suggestion: avoid the valet parking; it is a mess and takes forever to get your car that is 1/2 a block away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel, lousy valet"
Everything about this hotel minus the valet parking was exceptional. We checked in on a Thursday, and didn't really need our car until we left on Sunday. I then had to go get my own car in order to leave, as the valet wait was almost an hour.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was disappointed in my room. My room was in older part of Menger Hotel. Room located next to elevator and on Saturday night heard elevator bell and door open/close all night. Room had full size bed that was very very firm, neck and back hard next mornings. I don't believe anyone from Hotels.com has spent a night in the older part of hotel. This room […] was not a value. The staff is extremely friendly. The hotel and rooms were very clean. It was everything it promised. The entire family was very impressed and loved it. Everything was in walking distance, we didn't even use our vehicle the entire stay. We will definitely say at the Menger Hotel our next trip to San Antonio and would (and have already) recommend it to […] others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
In the pictures, The Menger Hotel looked nice. We even took a look at their website, and found nothing on their website that would make us choose another hotel. WHAT THEY FAILED TO SAY IS THAT THE MENGER HOTEL IS HAUNTED! In fact it is one of the most haunted in the state of Texas... If you don't mind crying noises from a woman coming from the closet […] at 2:30am and the bags in both trash cans moving around at 3am and something playing with your shopping bags and the blinds moving up and down on their own and the bathroom door opening while your both in the bed then you may ok with staying here. But never again will we.... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Menger Hotel was such a nice hotel with lots of historical value. The rooms were a little small, but very clean. The beauty of the hotel made up for the size of the rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Next door to the Alamo"
When traveling to SA we always stay at the Menger. Great hotel, rich with history and close to everything around the boardwalk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An Old Haunted Hotel"
The Menger Hotel was built in 1859, so if you like old buildings, it is very authentic. It has had lots of restorations, but they have successfully maintained a lot of the original antiques and preserved the history of the hotel. The hotel is known for being the most haunted hotel in Texas. I took my grand daughter there for her 21st birthday as she […] likes the paranormal. I'm sorry to say we did not see any ghosts, but the stay was enjoyable. We had a couple of little glitches with hotel staff, but nothing that wasn't rectified. A very enjoyable stay and I would definitely recommend the Dinner & Ghost Tour with the Sisters Grimm. Excellent tour. Lauren certainly knows her stuff. The hotel is also within walking distance to a lot of things to see in San Antonio, such as The Alamo (right next door), the River Walk, and lots of historical buildings. A very nice trip was had by all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"History, Beauty and location"
Travel made us arrive at 3:00am and check in was fast and easy despite the predawn hour. We were on the third floor of this beautiful old hotel. Went to ice machine and were a little spooked by the somewhat spirited atmosphere. Beds were comfortable. There are amazing tropical gardens and pool area. We had a delicious brunch in the formal dining room […] the next morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful historic boutique hotel."
As in most old hotels, the rooms are a little small - and maybe the finishes don't scream "five star," but everything else is fabulous about this old gem. We love historic hotels, and this is one of my favorite. Who knows maybe you're staying in a room that Robert E. Lee or Teddy Roosevelt stayed in? ...and the location is perfect.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Enjoy the past"
When I was arriving at San Antonio, It seemed like any other US modern city, high buildings, big streets, and so on, but just after I got into Menger Hotel, it was like to travel back in time one century ago, so you could expected to see at any time appear southern people of that age, so it was exciting, walk through the halls, restaurant and corridors […] inside of Mengers Hotel. "The only place I will stay in SA"
You just can't beat this place! My husband and I checked into the menger after midnight (after canceling our res with a less than favorable hotel on the river). The staff at the menger were so helpful and positive. They gave us the last room available and warned us it was a little small but that we would be able to switch rooms the next day. They were […] right, it was small, but after 2AM, if there's a clean bed, then who cares right? The next morning, we switched to a king room which was much more spacious. After seeing the single double room, I can tell you to pay the extra $15 and book a king room. However, no matter what room you stay in, they are all clean and comfortable. The staff members always go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The hotel itself is beautiful and only a 2 minute walk to the river. It's just next door to the Alamo and from some of the rooms, you can see over the mission wall into the gorgeous courtyard. I've been visiting San Antonio for almost 25 years and have stayed in almost every riverwalk hotel. I really feel at home in this hotel and we will never again stay anywhere but the Menger. "Nice hotel, had the best beds ever!!!"
We stayed in this hotel for a weekend, it is walking distance to everything, we valet the car and didn't take it out at all, everything is so close by you don't need to. To save money though, don't valet with the hotel, it is $28/day. It is better to find a parking spot yourself since you're not even going to need your car, there's lots of parking around […] the hotel. The beds were the best!!! so comfortable! and the pool was really clean, over all, it was a great hotel Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"...like a step back in time into a relaxing era..."
The staff was marvelously attentive; the atmosphere was welcoming; the interracial aspect was encouraging and pleasant... a wonderful place for a family vacation or a home base for visiting the Alamo and the River Walk. Well done!Genuine Expedia guest review
"I always stay at the Menger"
My first visit to the Menger was on our 30th anniverary (That was 15 years ago). My husband insisted we stay there and I know why now. It is an awesome Texas landmark, with so much history lining the hallways. The decor is so elegant and inviting. The staff is exceptional. The restaurant has superior food and service. "Wonderful Historic Hotel in San Antonio"
Great hotel next door to the Alamo. Two minutes to the River Walk. Next to River Center. Hotel is 125+ years old and Teddy Roosevelt's ghost hangs out in the bar. Hotel in itself is beautiful, restaurant is fabulous, location is best you can get. Go back? In a minute, can't wait.Genuine Expedia guest review
Close to the Alamo and Riverwalk. Would like to have requested a queen or king size bed, as we got a full size.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place close to alamo"
The place had a lot of history. Problem was you can smell how old the hotel is. Rooms needed upgrading. But over all great stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Amazing historic hotel& excellent customer service"
I was so excited when I found this room on hotels.com because I researched it and knew the history of the hotel, I didn't expect that I'd leave my necklace in the room and then called the hotel frantic 5 days after my check out date to see if they'd found it. I received excellent prompt customer service from the house keeping department and my necklace […] was back in my hands, 2 days after calling the hotel. This is an awesome place to stay because it is right next door to the Alamo. I will definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Booked this hotel at random and it ended up being an awesome stay. The hotel has an amazing history and the service was fabulous. Would definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location if you are staying on the River Walk, but you have to understand this is an old hotel. The hot/cold water in the shower never really worked, it either was freezing cold or burning hot. I would definitely stay here again!!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Historic Menger Getaway"
Great getaway with the girlfriend. Awesome location and a lot of history. A bit off the mark because of ageing fixtures. Beyond that it was a great stay and a cigar store off the original lobby to boot. Nice!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Riverwalk"
My overall experience is that the hotel is old and it smells old - that is the first thing that you notice - outside of the beautiful entry - once you get inside other areas the hotel has an overall smell of "old" and it's very displeasing. It was close to the Riverwalk which was fantastic. Also, they need to have free computer access for guests - each […] time I had to print directions or look up something minor, there was a charge and to date, I have charges on my credit card that should not be on it. "Great location and history"
We spent one night at The Menger as a family of four. Check-in was a breeze and the reception was courteous. We were offered a 20% coupon for dinner to the Colonial Room. Our room was clean and very cool the entire stay and this was extremely welcoming as the temp outside reached 103 daily. The beds in our 2 double room were cery comfy with nice down […] comforters. The only drawbacks in the room was that they are very dated and lack a fridge. I feel fridges in a room in any hotel (esp. In San Antonio) should really be standard at this price point. Other than that, it was a great stay and the location cannot be beat! Love the historical memoribilia everywhere and enjoyed having a drink in the Menger Bar. Great stay and great service! Great location, rooms, and pool. Only drawback for me booking this again is that the pool closes at 9PM. Granddaughter disappointed after we had a day in San Antonio not to be able to use the pool. It needs to stay open longer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Across from the Alamo"
It was quaint and historic feeling...not overly cleanly and no modern amenities. Staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A fantastic, history filled hotel stay"
That would have been PERFECT, if they had not scheduled a huge birthday party from 8pm-12am.... if the walls shaking, windows rattling, constant BUMP-BUMP-BUMP of rap music pleases you, then your stay would have been great. Even after TWO CALLS to the front desk, the party continued. BEFORE making your reservations, check with the hotel about any […] events they have scheduled during your stay. Or plan on NOT relaxing until very late. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Got stuck in a room with one double bed. Our reservation was for a king room. It took talking to a manager to finally get moved into the king room. The king size bed was so hard and uncomfortable. The walls in the hotel are paper thin. We got very little sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was beautiful but we got a room that had an excellent view...of a rooftop. Room was moderately clean and the hotel is supposedly haunted. There were actually people there the night we stayed with ghost hunting equipment. Overall moderately decent.Genuine Expedia guest review

Old fashioned outlets and no control over room temperature. Average hotel, nothing special except history.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok but could have be better"
Just stayed there for 2 nights. Location was excellent! Steps away from everything. Rooms were ok. Very uncomfortable beds and air conditioner didn't work too well. We stayed in one of their "updated" rooms and I was not impressed. Did not seem updated at all. Restroom was very outdated but did,Iike that they had a cabinet full of towels with extras […] too. Only had valet parking and it was way too much. Attendants at valet we great though. I don't think I would stay here again when I visit! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Menger Hotel in San Antonio"
Comfortable and quiet room overlooking pool on 3rd floor. Breakfast buffet on 2 mornings was a hit for my wife of 47 years and 12 year old grandson. "Hotel close to Downtown"
The good: close to mall and riverwalk. The bad: hard to regulate room temp. and small rooms. Shower would go from hot to cold depending if someone else turned on water in different room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Love The History"
This place is beautiful! The rooms are small but clean. The beds were small but comfortable. The biggest downfall is there were many many families with small children so the pool was packed full like daycare day at the pool. The children were running in the halls after 10pm and you can hear everything. Bring earplugs!Genuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed the menger. Location is great service was great pool area was great the kids loved it. Ck in & ck out was quick & easyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location convenient to everything"
Great except for one thing. The outside courtyard and the pool area are both smoking areas. It would be nice if maybe the pool area was no smoking since there are more children in the pool area than in the courtyard.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
