I had to find a place to stay overnight in Boston, and this seemed like like the only place which was close enough and accessible without being very expensive. I read all the reviews and wasn't hoping for much, but I was proved wrong. I checked into it in the evening, and the manager was very prompt and polite. There is a bus stop near the hotel which takes you to the Malden Center Orange line station, but look up the bus schedule ahead to avoid waiting for a long time. The Econo Lodge in Malden is an older building, and the age shows, but the proprietors obviously do the best they can with it. Despite the obvious age and some minor scratches/dents/chipped paint, the place was very clean. The water was hot whenever I needed hot water. I found an excellent Brazilian restaurant in nearby Everett on the route I had to […] take between the room and Cambridge, which was nice. There was also gas and shopping on the same route, adding more convenience. There was a refrigerator, microwave, and a valuables safe right in the room. Malden is only five miles outside of Cambridge, but that five miles was a drive of almost 40 minutes, and it was easy to miss vital turns on the local roundabouts. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The wi-fi was adequate, but it would have been nice if they'd had a placard telling me how to connect so I didn't have to walk back up to the front office to find out. Be sure to ask for extra pillows, as the ones provided are so thin and lacking any sort of cushioning that even stacking two of them together will leave you unsatisfied. The 'continental breakfast' was your choice of toast with butter and jelly, so don't expect anything fancy in the morning unless you're dining out. Read more

The girl who checked us in was way more interested in her telenovella, while the guy who checked us out wouldn't interrupt his phone call to talk to us. this is a very average hotel. it is a bit out of the city, however its a very easy bus ride and subway ride to the city. the bus and subway comes frequent (every 5 min or so). the rooms have fridge and microwave. the neighborhood is ok it seems. if i go to boston again i would stay here.

We needed a place to stay for one night because we were flying out of Logan International Airport in the morning. The hotel was relatively easy to get to from I-93. The hotel receptionist was friendly and helpful when I asked how to get to the nearest Subway station, but I had to commmunicate through a thick pane of glass, so it wasn't easy to hear, […] plus I wondered why it was necessary to have such a safety feature. We were on the second floor. As far as I can tell, there were no elevators -- not a problem for my family, but it could be for others. Plus, the last step was bigger than the others leading up to it, so if you weren't careful, it would be easy to stumble. We wanted to head to North Boston for a few hours, so we didn't spend much time at the hotel. We tried to take the bus but didn't have the route or schedule figured out. Later we leaned that you could take catch the 410 or 430 bus at the stoplight on Salem street right in front of the hotel. Instead, we drove to the Malden subway station and parked in a garage and then took the subway to downtown Boston. It looked like there was an interesting neighborhood a few blocks west of the hotel on Salem street. I saw some restaurants and shops. The airport was relatively easy to get to from the hotel. You essentially turn right when you exit the parking lot and follow the route 60 to 1A which takes you into the airport. Read more

Hair on the new soap. It was wrapped but gross. A bug on the sheet. Yes it was a smoking room (it's all they had available and we were desperate) but it was so poorly ventilated. It smelled so strong a bitter of cigars. Definately not passing a health inspection. It was shockingly disgusting.
