"dingy, smelly, and dark"
The first room I was given smeled bad - sor tof like a combination of stale cigarette smoke and some deodorizer, so I asked for another, which I was given. The second room smelled the same, way, but not quite as much so I didn't go back to the desk again. But it had no windows! no sunlight! Multiple dents on the door and fixtures, rather badly maintained. […] I have stayed in cheaper hotels that were much better than this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

front desk check in was more concerned about watching the television then checking me in. It took her 3 tries to get me checked in. Lots of noise heard from other rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review

I will not recommend this hotel. They don't knoz how to receive people, they copy debit card and things like that. I asked for a non-smoking room but my room was smelling. The only good point was the rapidity of internet.Genuine Expedia guest review

Close to the city. Clean room. Good neighborhood.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the hotel/room was okay for a nite. however, hotel.com was misleading in description and distance from boston's omni parker hotel. the $$ of the cab ride from airport to hotel was more than the cab ride from the hotel to the omni parker hotel the next day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Econo Lodge in Malden MA"
I had to find a place to stay overnight in Boston, and this seemed like like the only place which was close enough and accessible without being very expensive. I read all the reviews and wasn't hoping for much, but I was proved wrong. I checked into it in the evening, and the manager was very prompt and polite. The room was clean, and the TV and heater […] worked properly. Bed was comfortable. I was satisfied. The only thing to consider is transportation. There is a bus stop near the hotel which takes you to the Malden Center Orange line station, but look up the bus schedule ahead to avoid waiting for a long time. Overall, good place to stay for a short time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Never been to a hotel where the front desk is behind bulletproof glass before - and don't plan to go again. Located far away from everything, the walls are paper thin, so you can be part of your neighbor's activities.Genuine Expedia guest review

Hotel convienent for the bus line and train connection...Housekeeping staff did a really great job! Room noisy due to smokers standing outside of room due to smoking requirements for hotel...very noisy, loud talkers...hotel management should have been on top of this...continentel breakfast...don't bother...would recommend hotel for the priceGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not Great/Not Bad"
The Econo Lodge in Malden is an older building, and the age shows, but the proprietors obviously do the best they can with it. Despite the obvious age and some minor scratches/dents/chipped paint, the place was very clean. The water was hot whenever I needed hot water. I found an excellent Brazilian restaurant in nearby Everett on the route I had to […] take between the room and Cambridge, which was nice. There was also gas and shopping on the same route, adding more convenience. There was a refrigerator, microwave, and a valuables safe right in the room. Malden is only five miles outside of Cambridge, but that five miles was a drive of almost 40 minutes, and it was easy to miss vital turns on the local roundabouts. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The wi-fi was adequate, but it would have been nice if they'd had a placard telling me how to connect so I didn't have to walk back up to the front office to find out. Be sure to ask for extra pillows, as the ones provided are so thin and lacking any sort of cushioning that even stacking two of them together will leave you unsatisfied. The 'continental breakfast' was your choice of toast with butter and jelly, so don't expect anything fancy in the morning unless you're dining out. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

disappointed staff didn't follow through on wakeup call, getting taxi as promised for our departure to airport. we missed flight mostly because taxi arrived 25 min after time promised and we had to repeatedly request guest services to call and check even though he wasn't busy at all so early in the morning. taxi driver was very unconcerned about our […] time problem. claimed he didn't have change for payment to obtain a tip. eventually "found" the change I needed. "Econo Lodge - Malden, MA"
This hotel sort of looks like Nic Cage might go there to die. The girl who checked us in was way more interested in her telenovella, while the guy who checked us out wouldn't interrupt his phone call to talk to us. The free breakfast was a stale donut and watery juice. The bathroom door didn't close, the hot/cold taps were reversed, and the hallway […] would make Stephen King blanche. Good times! "convenience of hotel was good."
I was dissapointed of the condition of the hotel. the way it looked on the computer was not how it was in person, ripped screens or no screens at all and there where many guest that made us very uncomfortable, drunk fighting, it looked like people where living thier, but the manager that checked us in and our cleaning lady Angela where great.Genuine Expedia guest review

We needed a room that was cost efficient and not too far out of Boston during our daughter's college move-in.. We were disappointed in the overall quality of this hotel and will choose to pay more next time. The staff were not friendly, the room was subpar: spider webs on walls, bathroom door broken (you had to lift it in order to close it), exterior […] door did not always lock, and the "continental breakfast" was coffee with powdered cream, white bread or english muffin with butter or jam, and powdered donuts, and juice. Instead of free bunks with the family decided to pull money out of pocket and book something. I obviously didn't pull enough money out and took one of the cheaper options. The only good thing about this hotel was that it was near the subway line. And when I say near I mean a 15min bus ride or a $12 cab to the station. "Easy to get to airport from here."
We needed a place to stay for one night because we were flying out of Logan International Airport in the morning. The hotel was relatively easy to get to from I-93. The hotel receptionist was friendly and helpful when I asked how to get to the nearest Subway station, but I had to commmunicate through a thick pane of glass, so it wasn't easy to hear, […] plus I wondered why it was necessary to have such a safety feature. We were on the second floor. As far as I can tell, there were no elevators -- not a problem for my family, but it could be for others. Plus, the last step was bigger than the others leading up to it, so if you weren't careful, it would be easy to stumble. We wanted to head to North Boston for a few hours, so we didn't spend much time at the hotel. We tried to take the bus but didn't have the route or schedule figured out. Later we leaned that you could take catch the 410 or 430 bus at the stoplight on Salem street right in front of the hotel. Instead, we drove to the Malden subway station and parked in a garage and then took the subway to downtown Boston. It looked like there was an interesting neighborhood a few blocks west of the hotel on Salem street. I saw some restaurants and shops. The airport was relatively easy to get to from the hotel. You essentially turn right when you exit the parking lot and follow the route 60 to 1A which takes you into the airport. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

we were in this same motel in Malden, Mass 2 years ago and were very satified. The room next to us had guests probably on drugs ! They had arguments and fights all night long ! We barely sleep here and there. Next morning I went tired and p... of to the manager's desk, explained to him what happened. He kindely listened and moved us to an another room […] with no further discussion. For that price you can't get a cleaner and comfortable place. We, for sure, will return to Econolodge. "Overpriced, dumpy hotel"
The entire hotel smelled horrible of cigarette smoke and urine. Staff was was not welcoming or helpful. There were groups of people hanging out outside of the rooms. It seemed as though they had famiilies living in the hotel as well. The site said the hotel was 3.3 miles away from the airport and I don't believe that to be accurate. Overall, it was […] an awful experience. Smelly, unfriendly, seemingly unsafe and no where near the airport. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Disgusting"
First off the neighborhood did not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling what so ever, unless you count my adrenaline pumping because I just wanted to run! As soon as we walked into the room you could smell a strong mildewy smell. Went to go wash my face and there was black mold all over the bathroom. At this point we decided we did not want to stay there. […] But when we went to the front desk not only did they not offer to have us check out another room, they said the problem was they had new housekeeping staff that must have missed the mold. "Econo Lodge Malden - NOT RECOMMENDED"
Shopped for price and location. Price was lowest in the area (that's not saying much), but was located 2 miles from the subway to downtown Boston, too far to walk. A fresh modern face to an old worn out motel. Neighborhood was scary, the property management 'family' all hung out at the entrance to the lobby, smoking and conversing with each other in […] a non-English language, could not tell if they were talking about you. "Unbelievably unclean"
Hair on the new soap. It was wrapped but gross. A bug on the sheet. Yes it was a smoking room (it's all they had available and we were desperate) but it was so poorly ventilated. "Econo Lodge Malden - DISGUSTING"
This has got to be the most disgusting hotel I have ever been to. It was hard to even lie down in the bed. I stayed up half the night looking up bed bugs and trying to see if there were any I could find. The people that worked there were friendly, but they also called to tell me that they put me in another guest's room...and later told me that they […] checked me in as another person?? The neighborhood was scary too. I would highly recommend spending more $ for a better place. From the other guests that I saw, I'd assume that it was a prostitute/drug spot more than anything.
