The Balmoral Hotel - Edinburgh

The management and staff could not have been more accommodating. They booked restaurant reservations. The bellman transported our bags to the train station and helped load them on the train. The management were very helpful with a problem we had. I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very comfortable. Its proximity to the Waverly Train Station and the Princess Street shopping makes it all the more valuable. We think the hotel delivers the value for the money paid. If we visit Edinburgh again, we will definitely stay in this hotel.

The hotel was well run and beautifully maintained. Other than the fact that Scotland seems to want to secede from the UK there was nothing odd or wrong with this hotel and my stay was pleasant and enjoyable. I mean how can you complain about a country that wraps eggs in sausage?

The Balmoral is next to the train station and within short walking distance to everything within the city that we wanted to do and see. The building itself is just beautiful and elegant and made us feel like royalty. The room and views were amazing - this hotel was perfect in every way for a romantic getaway in Scotland.

Our room was on the first floor, so not only it was noisy from traffic, this totally lacked privacy, people riding double decker buses were literally in the room. Room rate with Hotels.Com did not include breakfast which was 17 pounds per person

The Balmoral is in the grand old hotel tradition. The only slight lack in an otherwise lovely experience is that there are no grand parlors on the first floor; they appear to have been turned into conference rooms. There is a fire in the entryway fireplace, but only two chairs near it. The room was marvelous.

We recently traveled to Edinburgh for the first time and found the Belmoral to be the perfect place for our stay. The location was perfect for exploring and enjoying the City of Edinburgh. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful, kind and friendly. The breakfasts were included and were really lovely. We enjoyed our wonderful spa treatments […] in the hotel spa. We were most impressed with Concierge services. There were several gentleman working at the Concierge desk and each one was extremely resourceful, pleasant, thoughtful and friendly. We engaged their help for many different tasks and their efficiency and helpfulness went above and beyond in every instance. The hotel dining was among the best experience in Edinburgh. I have stayed in some amazing hotels but the beautiful Balmoral may well prove to be an all time favorite. The location, the staff (concierge was outstanding), the restaurant, the delightful bar......and of course the room...all exceeded my very high expectations. Our overall experience was one of perfectly balanced, personalized and highly responsive service, beautiful surroundings and fine food. My wife's only disappointment was the service at high tea, which did not reflect the quality of service in the rest of the hotel.

The Balmoral is a perfect place a stay in Edinburgh. It is steps away from the rail, which we used coming in from London. You can walk to all sites and pubs from the hotel. The staff is friendly and quite helpful. The rooms are beautiful and spacious.

Staff, especially the conceirge, were helpful, warm and eager to help. Room was just okay, as I felt we overpaid for such a small room (only a double sized bed) and there was no in room coffee maker. With that said, it was a good central location, just across from Waverly Station and close to all the Hogmanay (New Years) celebrations.

Nice hotel with lots of character in a good location. Located about 2 blocks from the "Royal Mile", High Street makes this a convenient base for a visit to Edinburgh.

If you want a hotel in Edinburgh that has everything--comfortable rooms, a convenient location, friendly and helpful staff, superb (and tireless) concierges, and wonderful restaurants--then The Balmoral is for you! Granted, you will pay 5 Star prices--but you get 5 Star service. One small example: at breakfast, a boy about 12 explained to the waiter […] that his younger sister had a food allergy, so her breakfast cereal had to come directly from a box; the waiter understood, put the kids at ease and took personal care of the youngsters (the breakfast is buffet style). I happened to notice because I was at the next table--but the kindness was done without any fuss--and with no awkwardness for the little girl. The Balmoral Hotel staff were some of the best we have seen. From the front desk staff, the maids, restaurant staff were exceptional. Hadrian's Bar and Brassiere were also very good, and again the staff takes great care to make hotel guests and others feel comfortable. We would stay there again.

Walking distance to major attractions in downtown Edinburgh. First class service and accommodations, helpful staff. Expensive stay, e.g., daily valet parking our rental car was as expensive as Manhattan near Central Park. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel.

Our experience at the Balmoral exceeded all of our expectations. The rooms were spacious and brightly lit. The service was excellent; everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Our spa service was fantastic. I travel to Edinburgh quite frequently, and I will never stay anywhere else but the Balmoral in the future.

Exceeded highest expectations. Service was coridial and engaged and extremely helpful with plans, immediately researching all information (if they didn't already know it). We had a double room reserved; the room was spacious with (I estimate) 12-14 foot tall ceilings. The spa, pool and gym areas were well-maintained and wonderful to use. The Balmoral's […] restaurants were also great (although, as would be expected, a bit pricey).
