Gran Hotel Cervantes - Torremolinos

I have been at this hotel many times. The room was renovated and very nice with a huge balcony. The service was great and had no problems. I think they are really working on listening to the guests and they are improving a lot. I really like Hotel Cervantes and the location is perfect!

The location is perfect. However, the room was very motel 6 style. 1) Old and not so pretty bed covers 2) Beds were VERY HARD 3) No iron... not even at the front desk. After traveling, all clothes were wrinkled. A big deal for me. 4) It was very hot and the air was not on. I could not breath in the room and it was hot outside. We were there April […] 7-11. So the air does not get connected until later??? very weird for me :( 5) We had the TV on at midnight and the front desk called us saying neighbor complained about it. I said: Are you kidding me? I can't even watch a movie in this hotel??? Anyway... great location, but the hotel seems like it is less than 4 stars. The photo of the hotel is not even close to what you get. My husband, daughter, and I recently stayed at the Gran Hotel Cervantes for a couple days at both ends of our cruise that was leaving from Malaga. We loved our time at this hotel! The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast is very good, and the location is excellent. While the hotel is not on the beach, it is a short walk to the beach. […] Yes, the walk to the beach is all stairs, but there is an elevator available across the street for those who may not be able to (or want to) climb approximately 130 stairs. There are many shops and restaurants within just a couple minute walk of the hotel, as well as both bus and metro access. My suggestion is to save the 20 euro taxi fare and catch the metro from the airport for 2 euros. If you get off at the Torremolinos Centro stop, you'll be within a block or two of the hotel. My only complaints would be a.) The beds are incredibly hard. They more resemble wooden platforms than mattresses. b.) On our second stay, we waited 3 hours (and called 3 times) for a crib to be delivered to our room. Grr. Even still, I'd recommend this hotel for sure! Read more

The hotel is very convenient to get to from the airport, easy subway ride and a 2 minute walk. The hotel from the outside looks like nothing special but you are nicely surprised when you enter an updated lobby area. Staff: I walked up to the counter with a smile, a greeting, and my reservation copy (I do speak Spanish as well). The desk clerk took his […] time to finish whatever he was looking at on his computer, then grabbed my paper, and handed me the keys....all without saying a single word. Very rude indeed. I had to ask himabout al the info (where is breakfast, time, pool towels etc). Rooms: We got to our room which was facing another building, I asked to move to a higher floor, even if it was smaller than we had booked. The lady accomodated, but not happily. The rooms are very outdated and reeked of chemical cleaner, It;s a shame, because I think a simple paint job, change of curtains amd bedding, and it could be a very nice hotel. Balconies have nice views, but we had a dead cockroach in ours. The bathrooms are nicely done and updated. Food: We had reserved the half board so we were looking forward to the food. There was a million options at each meal, but the quality and flavor was absolutely horrible. I didn't think anyone could make a simple egg taste badly?! Very greasy, flies around the salads, breads were decent, cheeses tasted like plastic. Despite paying for the half board, we ate out many of the 5 days we were there. If you want to gorge yourself on food despite quality, this is the buffet for you. Definitely cheap too. Pools: The outdoor pool is nice, I think saltwater filtration system. Nicely sunny, but full of pink people and not enough seating/lounging areas, The winter pool (on the roof) is quite outdated. Bathroom on the roof is horrible, stinks of sewer and old poops in closed up stalls. yuck. Overall, would have been a nice enough stay if the desk staff and food were replaced. Read more

For a well located 4 star hotel it's good value for sure (at least when we went). Lobby is quite fancy and at least the breakfast was very nice. The rooms though had very hard beds (even to Spanish standards), and our room had a funky and musty smell and the decor was outdated (even though they apparently updated the rooms in 2008 or so). This hotel is the best place to stay in all Costa Del Sol. Its located in Torremolinos shopping plaza, and you can easily take the train from Malaga airport to the hotel for less than 2 euros. Great location for train along the cost & from airport. Forget about taxi the hotel is very accessible from airport by train. We have stayed here before at half board and were very pleased. However not as much variety as usual. We would highly recommend it.

The breakfast buffet was super, both European & British. For the price, this was a terrific stay. Overlooking the beach. but quite a walk uphill if your older or have difficulty walking. Hotel is placed in the heart of Torremolinos, surrounded by many shops and restaurants, beaches and two supermarkets. I've stayed a few times at Gran Hotel Cervantes and unfortunately it has gone downmarket. Thankfully I stayed half-board and had a nice lunch elsewhere as the food in the hotel was boring. Soup consisted of coloured hot water with no flavour, exact same desserts EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Room was ok but the bed was not overly comfortable and the bedding was old and worn. We had a room at the front on the 4th floor. The noise from the bar and foyer was unbearable at times - very loud and the rooms are not very soundproofed. The hotel is very handy for the station and town centre bars.

The location of this hotel is excellent, very close to the highly efficient Spanish railway network, and just minutes from Malaga Airport by train. The public areas of the hotel were all in very good order and staff service was reasonably good. I found the breakfast to be quite disappointing, with some frankly sub-par ingredients used and just not very […] well cooked, not to mention the machine dispensing vile undrinkable cordials that are passed off as 'juice' but the evening meals were excellent, with a wide range of delicious Spanish dishes on offer. My room had a huge balcony with magnificent views and the power shower in the bathroom was luxurious but apart from this the room was a disappointment. It was small, dated, the bed was hard and not comfortable. Also, the room looked as though it had not seen a duster in months and it smelled of tobacco! If wishing to use the heated pool you will need flip flops and a swimming cap. The lifts are very slow and a bit rickety. If you're not too fussy about your room and just see it as somewhere to get your head down at the end of your day then I would recommend this hotel, as the value for money is not bad. Read more

The hotel is a typical good standard costa del sol holiday accommodation, as could be judged by its permanently full status. This was my fourth visit in two years and this vist was the first time I have been disappointed. The introduction of all-inclusive guests in recent months has changed the entire atmosphere of the hotel. This is no longer a charming family hotel frequented by Spaniards, French, Germans, Dutch and English. Now it is dominated by drunken English holiday […] makers on a bender. Goodness knows what the other nations think of us. The one good thing was that both pools were empty as most guests were too drunk to swim! The staff seem to have lost their enthusiasm and the previous high standards for cleanliness and hygiene have lowered. Food ok, salads ok and mainly fish, Long queues for restaurant, annoying when you leave and see people waiting and there are empty tables. The roof top pool was closed for the last 3 days of our holiday for cleaning, with notice posted the night before, which was disappointing. Fares not expensive, a few euros to airport, so dont need a taxi from airport. Long walk down steps to seafront, but there are two lifts, that a lot of people do not realize, that cost .5 euro, so walk down and get lift up. Wifi access really expensive, something like 5 euros for 45 minutes or 9 euros for 24 hours, which is unacceptable, as many hotels are providing this free now. Safe 3 euros per day, bit expensive. You can get an express coach to gibraltar for 14 euros at local travel agents. Great day out. Read more

Great location, close to city centre and 3 minute walk to train station, 10 minute walk for the beach downhill. The only negatives: Small single room (not a deal breaker), small elevators, and the carpet on the room floors old and dirty. Everything else very good.
