"A little difficult to find, but worth the search"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Slightly difficult to find at first, but nicely updated and clean. Was very surprised that the kitchen was clean - you can just never be sure about public kitchens, but all of the appliances and surfaces throughout the room were clean. Hotel location is decent (obviously depends on what you are visiting for), but be mindful that it is on an airplane path (for Reagan) - its completely silent at night, but in full action starting at 6-7am.

Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.

Awesome location, next to the White House. Good for seeing the sites and having a central location to get back to. Bathrooms are NOT sound resistant. CVS is just around the corner for those last minute things you might need. Rooftop bar is okay, drinks are pricey, but you are paying for the atmosphere, go to the bar around the corner for better and […] more reasonable priced cocktails. Read more

"Great Location- Overdesigned spaces/ restroom"
We stayed at the hotel for downtown festivites for the new year as we had stayed at the hotel when it was the 'Hotel Washington'. We checked in around 4:00pm as we had early dinner reservation downtown. They were preparing for the nights festivitesin the lobby and valet pickup so things were a bit hecktic. Check in was smooth and we were each given […] a glass of champagne and went up to our room. The room was small and had an interior courtyard window as we got a basic single queen-bed room. Got changed and went to dinner and then when we returned we noticed all the small problems with the bathroom. The bathroom was oversized and very over-designed. Along one entire side of the restroom was a vanity and mirror. However the sink was only 2-3" deep and the flow rate of the dual facutcets was terrible. Their might be 5" total clearance to rinse my hands under the gooseneck facuets and with the drip flow it may of taken me 3- 4 mintues to fully rinse my hands of soap/ shaving cream. The lighting of the bathroom was also a problem. There are only 2 MR16 halogen recessed downlights that lighten up the entire room and they are 4' away from the mirror. So she had to rely on the single pendant fixture that diffused the light with a crystal 'stalagtite' cover. Again way to overdesigned and boutique and no function at all. Read more

"Good location, small rooms."
Hotel location can't be beat, but W experience just not for me, it feels more like a club than a hotel, with bouncers and cordoned areas in front of elevator. What they call "Wonderful Queen" rooms are basically small rooms, with nice design. Will not go back. Left my laptop charger in room after check-out and staff handling request to check room was […] not very helpful. Front desk, whatever/whenever and rooftop staff were very friendly and helpful. "Do not stay at this W"
I normally like the trendy nature of W hotels because it is so different from my home. But, this place is totally uncomfortable. So many inconveinences that added nothing to the trendy decor. Most importantly, the shower/ toilet area is about three feet away from the bed, with no wall in between, just glass. This means that if your companion goes to […] the bathroom in the middle of the night the entire room is illuminated. The walls are paper thin too. Normally I'm of the "who cares if the room is small, you're only sleeping there" kinda mindset, but I got no sleep here. Read more
"Close to everything and a Metro Station"
We stayed at two hotels and this was by far the superior hotel. It was blocks away from the Metro Station, not a 15-20 minute walk like a lot of hotels are. it was also close to casual eateries and a food mall which was nice on the budget. There were a few "inconviences" though. One the room key was a pain in the butt. Everytime you go through a metal […] detector it would make the card invalid. EVERYTHING has metal dectectors in Washington DC, so there was a lot of going back down to the front desk to fix the room key. Also they double booked the room so we did have an unexpected guest in our room at one point, but they totally made up for it by comping a meal at their restaurant, which was wonderful food. We definitely would consider this hotel again and any of the chain's hotels in other cities. Read more
"Too focused on hip versus service"
This W tries too hard to be cool at the expense of service. The people are nice and work hard, but the Whatever Whenever greeting has worn thin, as has the Unz Unz music in the lobby and the tiny impractical rooms. If cool is still your top priority and you don't mind being out of step with the times, you'll enjoy this place. If not, I suggest you look […] for another hotel. Read more

Extremely dissapointed. Bathroom door didn't close completely. If there were two people in the hotel room, the one in the bathroom wouldn't have any privacy. I initially thought it was an issue with the bathroom in our room and asked to be switched, but when we got to the new room I noticed the same thing there, so Im guessing the whole hotel is that […] way.. Also, the drinks on the rooftop use the worst quality alcohol. I had two martinis, and my girlfriend had a cosmo. Worst martinis and cosmo we've ever tasted. Next morning I woke up with red spots all over my face and not feeling well at all. Won't stay there again. Read more
"W Hotel DC - tragically hip"
High points - excellent plumbing fixtures and water pressure, top location, fabulous roof-top bar, elevators were very available, George Washington silhouette was a nice touch HOWEVER check-in took WAY too long, velvet ropes, REALLY!, $9 Fiji water (even complimentary Poland Springs would have been better), a shower cap would have been nice, replacing […] the 99% empty body wash for the second day would have been helpful, small room overlooking interior shaft (we did get a very good rate so that can be ignored), $14.95 for wi-fi even Kimpton has free wi-fi, thin walls. I could go on... Read more

"W Hotel in DC...not a good experience"
Upon checkout, they charged me $50 for "Wheels Valet" It was for parking, but I had no car. They claimed that someone must have parked in their parking lot, and gave them my room number...and that they trust people, so they did not check. Seemed a bit shady to me. Also, there is little bathroom privacy. It has a pocket door that does not even close […] fully...there was about a 1 inch crack to see thru when you fully close the door. Not real cool when sitting on the toilet and virtually no privacy. I would not recommend this hote. Read more

"The W in Washington, as close as you can get"
The hotel is located right across the street from the Treasury and two blocks from the White House. The view from the rooftop bar onto the roof of the White House is amazing. All the memorials and monuments are in walking distance. The room was very nice, especially the huge bathroom with a walk-in shower. There was party in the lobby and on the rooftop […] every night. Overall very stylish and hip, but a bit expensive perhaps. If you are a family with young kids it's probably not a good choice but if you're young and want to have fun it's the place to stay! "Nice, but reallllllly small"
Ultra contemporary in a historic building. Cross the two and you have trendy and small rooms since the building could not be altered due to it's historic significance. Decent location, extremely expensive. I used my welcomerewards to stay there for a night.
"View the roof of The White House"

"Whatever Whenever"
I would highly recommend this hotel, the concierge went out of their way to make us comfortable and were very helpful with any questions we had. The Acura MDX shuttle was a bonus.
"Great Location, You must go up to the roof terrace"
I had a great stay at the W in DC. The rooms are a little on the small side, however this isn't an issue if you are out sight seeing all day. The location is fantastic right by the white house and all the famous landmarks are easy to walk to. Two must do's are the Old Trolley Tour of the monuments at night (seeing the washington memorial in the reflecting […] pool is amazing) and visit the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. I would also add that you get a much closer view of the white house from the north side (Lafayette Sq) rather than the usual south side. I was pretty lucky as Marine One flew in twice. I had a throroughly enjoyable trip, no real issues and I felt very safe. If you are looking for somewhere to eat, the best place I found was the Old Ebbitt Grill by the Treasury Building, it served great food and ales. Read more
