This hotel has so much potential. The suite was big but had stained bedspreads and couch. The beds rock hard. The pool bathroom had no toilet paper and was filthy dirty at noon and waterfall not running. The lobby is pretty and Shula's Steakhouse was great. Chair rental at the beach. Staff was friendly. We stayed at The Alexander around the 2013 BCS National Championship Game. Staff upon check-in were unfriendly, and wholly unprepared for us and 4-5 other sets of guests. Check-in time is 4 pm and they were completely unwilling to move off of that time for an earlier check-in (even 45 minutes) for anyone. They also did not have enough room keys, so […] for a 2 bedroom suite with 3 adults and 2 kids, we were given only 1 key. The rooms are all different in style and all pretty dated. Our room was supposed to have one king and two double beds, but had two twin beds instead (still had the king). The beds were rock hard. Cleaning service didn't make it to the rooms until about 3-4 pm, and was average at best. The hotel ran out of beach towels everyday, including the last day we were there when most of the other football fans had already checked out. And, the towel person and concierge were rude when you brought this to their attention. Lastly, the location of the hotel is not convenient unless you have a car as you have to drive to just about anywhere (grocery store, restaurants, south beach, etc.). Cab service at this hotel was very slow. Probably a good "value buy", but don't be fooled by the website - this is definitely not anywhere close to a 4 star hotel - 2.5 stars is probably more like it. Read more

I got to the Alexander Friday at about 3: 00 pm went to the room the room was great went down to the pool with my 90 year old grandfather and asked for a regular chair verses a lounge chair being that they are so low that my grandfather could get dizzy when he would get up and the pool employee advised me that the only chair that he had was his at about […] 5:30 pm I requested some towels so that when I got out of the pool I could dry my self before going up to the room well the same employee advised me that there would be no more towels because he finished his shift at 6:00 pm and that no one had brought towels down that was then i went to the bar to get some drinks and was advised there was no corona beer Saturday on Sunday I go down to the pool and ask him how I could get an umbrella he said I had to ask the person sitting by one if they where using it and I'd not I could use it the I ask for towels and was told the same as the day before wow a hotel short of staff and towels !!!! I was told the Expedia deal was for a 900sf 1 bedroom suite and we got a larger 2 bedroom, two full bath suite so that was great, however the tub in the master bedroom wouldn't drain and wasn't fixed in the 6 days we were there, even though we complained twice. The first 2 nights and days the whole building was without air conditioning. There was no manager on duty the first day we were there and staff had poor information on when things would be fixed. Hi, If I had not gotten a special deal with Expedia, I would have been outraged by the scratched wooden furniture, old TV's and rusty refrigerator. As it is, I was disappointed by the substandard quality in the suite. On the plus side, the suite was spacious and the pool, gorgeous.

I had the misfortune to stay at this hotel on the last night of my family vacation. We chose this hotel based on the beachfront location, suite style accomodations and general proximity to sites. We arrived before check-in time, but were told we could use a cabana at the pool. We were told to see the pool manager - who cursed when I arrived & told […] him the front desk had sent me. He cursed some more as he called the front desk. Finally we were shown to the "cabana"- a roll up door storage unit near the pool. It was not clean and it took 30 minutes to get a cursory cleaning. An hour past check in time,back to the front desk to ask if our room was ready. They claimed they called my cell phone- no attempted call showed up on my log. Finally at our room - the cleaning lady was still there- she needed another 45 mins. The room was filthy, w/ a broken curtain & a massive leak from the A/C that flooded the floor. At the front desk - I was accussed of being too picky & asked "how flooded" the carpet was - as if we should deal w/ wet carpet, mildew & filth. After 20 mins at the front desk - sent to the new room - again cleaning lady at work (now 2 hrs past check in time). This room was equally dated, dirty, & low end furnishings - not what expected in the price range. Room was pre-paid, we were stuck. Next morning we got a call at 11 & told we were late to check out & would be charged $30. Check out was clearly printed in all materials as 12. DON'T STAY HERE! Read more

They need to do a lot of work in maintenance and cleaning. The corridor rugs need a deep cleaning, and the room cleaning service needs a lot more supervision. I found dirt from at least two previous visitors. They clean up every day as expected but not well enough.

One word...GROSS. The hotel is in dire need of renovation. The room had a horrible smell and we were unable to walk on the carpet with bare feet due to a sticky feeling. Housekeeping never came the entire weekend despite being on our floor both days. We enjoyed a beautiful day at their wonderful pools, hot tubs and beach area. It was a beautiful suite with lots of room and everything we could possibly need. Everyone was very nice, professional, and helpful. There were hotel pool toys for everyone to use that our children really enjoyed. I had read some reviews about the hotel after booking and was really upset, feeling I had made a mistake. Comments were made about it being rundown and not very clean. I'm not sure what hotel they were talking about because it wasn't this one. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We had an oceanfront suite with a 230 sq ft balcony allowing for […] unfettered views of the Atlantic. The furniture was modern and comfortable. Walk-in closets and drawer space was in abundance. Dinner at Shula's Steakhouse was grand. The service from Mark, our waiter, was on par with that of the finest eateries. The pool and beach area was fantastic, although beach chairs and umbrellas should really be part of the room fees. For my sister's 25th bday, my cousin, sis and I wanted to go to Miami. We wanted to stay in Miami Beach but not too far from South Beach. The room was much more than we expected! On Expedia we had th eoption o f a king or 2 full but when we got their it was a full with a full bath on one side and a room with 2 twin beds with a full bath on the other […] side! It had a full kitchen and a beautiful view! It felt like a home away from home. If we had 1 complaint it would have been housekeeping. They didn't clean/straighten up as we were accustomed to. They came at different times each day. One day we cam e back one of the bathrooms had no toilet paper and we didn't get new wash cloths! However, don't let this issue deter you from staying here. We stayed at The Alexander for 4 nights, the hotel itself was very nice. Big biggest flaw was the service or complete lack there of. In 4 days our roomw as only cleaned once which was on our last day. Even then we had to call to have it done twice one that day. We wont be staying at The Alexander ever again.

The rooms are very large and suited our family. The pools are beautiful and clean. The place is quite dated though and there is nothing walking distance - not even a full grocery store or mall. The pools are large and very family friendly but they could clean the surrounding decks more thoroughly.

Great suite hotel for families. We had a deluxe two bedroom suite and there was plenty of space with 2 bathrooms, lounge area and fully fitted out kitchen. Would stay there again.
