"Great hotel with a lot of personality"
The staff was extremely kind and helpful. They had great suggestions for places to eat and were more then helpful when I told them I had forgotten my computer charger. Best experience I have ever had!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quirky and Fun"
Hotel Monaco is a fun, quirky hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. The hotel is decorated in bright colors and a mismash of styles. The rooms are generously sized. The hotel had a breakfast drink bar in the morning and snacks in the afternoon - perfect for a quick drink/bite before heading out. Location is great for downtown access -- and is right […] by public transportation stops. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We love Kimpton and have never been disappointed. Really loved this place and such a great location. No view, but great stay nonetheless!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lots of Perks at the Hotel Monaco"
Fun stay while sightseeing in Portland. Comfortable room, friendly people and lots of perks. "Wine hour" each day included wine, beer, or a vodka drink and a small Hors d'oeuvre. On our last day it included an array of Voodoo Doughnuts (last Thursday of the month we found out) that was definitely worth spoiling your appetite over. Also coffee in the […] AM and an ice-cream bar in the afternoon is offered in the lobby, and bikes! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best stay ever!"
Hands down the best hotel experience we've had to date. Arrived late after a long drive and we're upgraded to a suite - beautifully decorated, clean and enormous. Only spent one night but we felt like kings. We took out a couple complimentary bicycles in the morning and took a ride to VooDoo Donuts and the arial tram before checking out. Parking is […] pricey, but this hotel is amazing. We hope to visit again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel Monaco-----pretty disappointing"
I asked to stay on a higher floor in a quiet room. Instead, I was given a room on the second floor that was not quiet at all. Each morning before 5 am there was a lot of loud noise (I think trash removal or something going on with loud trucks). This made sleeping quite challenging for me. Also, the hotel did not feel well maintained or very upscale […] to me. I will not stay at this hotel during visits to Portland. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Really expected more given other reviews..."
My girlfriend and I spent 4 nights at the hotel, and for lack of a better phrase, the room and our experience was very OK. We stayed in a regular room with a queen bed. There was little to no space to put our things. Besides the closet, there were a total of three small drawers to store all of our things that were not meant to hang. There was only a […] small table in the room (which was covered with a variety of brochures, coffee maker, and other standard hotel items) so we struggled to find adequate space to put our things. The bathroom had the same problem. There was essentially no where to put anything. This resulted in a constant shuttling of toiletries in and out of the bathroom every time someone needed to get ready. This is addition to the fact that the bathroom had no ventilation/fan, so you had to leave the door open when showering in order to not fog up the room. Further, the bed was not very comfortable; i.e. springs jabbing into your sides. This was in addition to the terribly uncomfortable down pillows... We requested, and received, foam pillows for nights 2-4, but they were just as bad. Add in being woken up at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday by some very noisy and drunk guests, and my take away is that I will look for a different place to stay on my next trip to Portland. The icing on the cake was a person at the front desk who was quite snippy when we asked about a place to grab some quick food before we left for a hike and stated we wanted something local, not Starbucks. "Great location, great service"
My husband and I thought that the Monaco was fantastic. We were able to check in early, no problem. The service was great, the staff was friendly. They loaned us a couple of bikes free of charge. The room was clean and quiet (which was a big plus after our last stay). We also got a really great deal on the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful hotel with elegant and unique décor. The evening wine tasting was a very fun addition!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good option for a stay near Seattle airport."
Efficient and freindly check in. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Go for it if you do not mind staying in a 'no brand' hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"2 Stars at Best"
This hotel was not anywhere near a 4 star hotel. The hotel was old and shabby. It smelled old. Like a flophouse converted to a luxury hotel. They just forgot to add the luxury. I was very disappointed and will NEVER stay at a Kimpton hotel again for fear that they under deliver on their promise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent place to stay"
During the check in process there seemed to be a mix up with Hotels.com. They didn't have our reservation but that was no problem for the wonderful front desk staff! Our room was upgraded to a premiere suite, free cocktail coupons and free parking. If that wasn't enough they sent up to our room champagne and chocolates for our 25th anniversary. We were […] treated like royalty, an experience we won't soon forget. So many restaurants within walking distance. Close to the riverfront and the weekend market too. Can't say enough about Hotel Monaco. The most elegant hotel we've stayed in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent Service, pet sitting available"
The staff is wonderful. From the Valet, Bell Man, Front Desk. these people are fabulous. Cleaning staff came through and cleaned the carpet in the pet friendly room which made a huge difference with my dogs reaction to the room. The hotel is located right near everything, shopping, great restaurants, easy walks. The front staff will pet sit your animal. […] Great, no worries about putting my pet in the car, no worries about barking. He had a great time. Almost a shame to leave. I was upgraded to a room with a hide a bed couch but truthfully the arms were so low on it and the back pillows so large it was strictly for show. The only negatives again was the carpet, which was addressed immediately. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Free bike use, great happy hour"
Excellent staff. Helpful in every way. Great location. We parked the car and walked everywhere or took great public transport a minute away. Kids used hotel bikes to explore the city. Happy hour was fun and relaxing. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I wanted a little weekend getaway and I live about three hours away. Chose Monaco because of the fun looking interior. I had never seen anything like it in other places (it's so kitsch!) and thought it would do well for the ambiance of going to weird Portland. I decided to splurge and get the king premier suite and I was not disappointed. LOVED the […] room, there are lots of great details. Felt like I was in a Wes Anderson movie or in Anthropologie or something. Location was great if you just want a weekend to shop, I stayed for two nights and had a lot of fun staying there. Took more pictures of the room than anything else, haha. Reccommended. Bad stuff: parking is 40 bucks a night, you could probably find something cheaper? The restaurant downstairs was so/so, a little bland. No free Internet. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun hotel right downtown"
We stayed for a long weekend in Portland. The hotel is conveniently located right downtown, 2 blocks from MAX trains, 2 blocks from food trucks. The hotel has a fun vibe when you walk in including a welcome board for any dogs that are staying in the hotel. We had a queen suite that was very comfortable. The sofa was a little too soft to sit on but everything […] else was perfect. A small refrigerator was nice to have to store some fresh fruit/snacks. Apparently you can get a pet goldfish for your room if you plan ahead and ask for one. A yoga mat in the room is a nice touch. The wine/beer reception was a lot of fun with donuts from VooDoo donuts as a special treat. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful hotel, a must"
Loved our stay at Hotel Monaco. The one in Portland is extra special. Our room was a suite, and beautiful. Make sure not to miss the wine reception at 5 to 6 in the evening. "Conveniently located, Nice Portland Hotel"
We had an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Monaco in Portland. Location is great and it's easy to get around. It's a very nice hotel and the rooms are very spacious. A couple of gripes: As someone who typically looks forward to hotel beds, this one was a little hard and the pillows were large and awkwardly shaped, but it wasn't uncomfortable by any means. […] Also, we flipped the coffee mugs over to use them in the morning and they were extremely dirty and had dried up residue all over them. Definitely did not expect that type of thing from such an otherwise nice property. Finally, $38 for overnight valet parking is a LOT. Way too much, if you ask me. I'm sure they're trying to be eco-friendly and encourage guests to travel by transit, but I shouldn't feel like I'm being punished for driving. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Rough Start turned into a Wonderful Stay"
We arrived early, so our room wasn't ready. The lobby is a pleasant place to wait. When the room was ready, our key cards failed to open the door. We got new cards four more times, still not able to gain access. Meanwhile a staff member kindly got us in with his card, but we could not leave. Finally, a new room was made available. When we returned from […] an outing an apology letter and bottle of wine awaited us. All staff were very helpful and apologetic. All else in our stay was wonderful. We stayed at Monaco for two days and the overall experience was very disappointing. The normal check-in hour for the hotel is at 3 but our room wasn’t ready until 4:45. The hotel staff wasn’t friendly. The bathroom fan isn’t working and the setup of the hotel looks outdated.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Everything I hoped for....and more"
The room was great. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The rooms were clean and very accommodating. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The giant Jenga, the afternoon wine and beer service.....it was the best hotel experience ever!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun hotel, appalling parking fees"
The vibe of the Monaco is very fun, with a great lounging area in the lobby with a lively happy hour. The only sour taste left in my mouth is because of the exorbitant parking rates, truly unconscionable when you're already paying a small fortune for an upscale hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed one night after flying into PDX. Arrived an hour early and we were lucky/surprised that our room was ready. We had a King Suite (king bed with sliding partition wall and Queen pull out couch for 2 teen boys). Crazy decor! Not sure how it all came together but it did. High ceilings with tall window. Very clean. Plenty of room for all of us. […] Staff was really friendly and amazing. So many awesome extras- I'm not a lounge person but the common lounge was great: Cool furnishings and infused water, coffee in morning, Popsicle hour for kids, etc... We loved the bar close by (walk out head right and go to next corner- Kell's?)... looks a little divey but it had more people than anywhere else we went that day. Awesome vintage motorcycles hanging from the ceiling. Seems to be more of a local place. The rate at the hotel was a little high but I am so glad I chose this place. It was worth it for the amazing atmosphere. Be careful with Valet. The guys were soooo nice but we think our bumper (rental car) was nicked/marred by them. We didn't notice until our first stop so it was too late to say anything. Finally... location was good. We walked a circuit by food trucks, Powell's, then waterfront. Pretty central. Lot's of homeless people as we expected but they were harmless. Felt safe but we weren't out late at night. This would be the same at any hotel however. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A nice hotel for a staycation!"
Stayed at this hotel to celebrate my son's birthday and to attend the annual Blues Festival. The decor is quirky--keeping Portland weird. We had selected the Suite with 2 queen beds, on the hypoallergenic floor. The room was clean and very comfortable. Wine tasting is offered at 5:00 pm, daily. It was very well done, and many hotel quests were in attendance. […] The staff was very friendly and accommodating during our stay. But the best part of our stay, was the surprise that my son received, from the staff, for his birthday. The front desk had a bottle of sparkling wine and a huge slice of birthday cake delivered to the room while we were out. My son and I were very touched by the staff's thoughtfulness. A shout out to Jenna and the rest of the staff, at the front desk! I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable, clean and convenient"
We stayed at Hotel Monaco on a overnight visit to Portland. We wanted somewhere in downtown Portland that would put us within a walkable distance from several good restaurants and Powell's. When booking the stay online, we specifically requested two adjoining or adjacent rooms. When we arrived we were told we couldn't get the room locations we wanted, […] though we were on the same floor. The front desk staff offered us free drink coupons for their evening happy hour as an apology for the inconvenience. Overall, we found the hotel to be clean, attractive, and convenient to all of the places we wanted to go. The rooms were very quiet and the beds very comfortable, so we both slept well. We liked the hotel's efforts to be ecologically aware, and we liked the availability of complimentary bikes, though we didn't have time to use them. We had a tasty breakfast at the adjacent Red Star restaurant. We appreciated the complimentary coffee set-up in the room but hated the chemically laden, artificial creamer with the coffee. There is a refrigerator in the room. Why not supply real cream? (BTW, the Portland Westin supplies real cream with its coffee. I stayed there for a conference and was struck by this little extra touch.) The parking was not complimentary ($38 for the night) and the mini-bar items were overpriced. Would we go back? Sure, if we could get a good online room rate and the adjoining or adjacent rooms we requested. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but they have no Public brand bikes"
No Public bikes. The hotel was nice, but one of the main reasons that we chose this hotel is that we love Public brand bikes and were looking forward to exploring Portland on Public bikes. Not only did they not have Public bikes, but the bikes that they did have were pretty crappy and we had two flats, far from the hotel, of course.Genuine Expedia guest review

I loved my experience at hotel. The hotel offered fun things like wine and piano music every night. Ice Cream choice in the afternoon and Starbucks coffee everyday. "Great location for tax free shopping!"
Hotel is really well kept. I happen yo love Kimptons. The summer ice cream treats and evening happy hour are nice touches. And location is close to downtown shopping. "Great staff and amenities."
Clean and quiet room. Nice size suite conducive to working. Bed could have been a bit softer but more than adequate for a 2 night stay. Bedding was nice. Lovely blackout curtains. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were given a complementary upgrade and an early checkin. Rates were less than surrounding hotels in area. The workout facilities […] are also very nice. I was disappointed there is no pool. The fantastic coffee and bakery in the area more than made up for it. Would definitely visit again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Monaco is a great place to stay"
One of our favorite hotels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I love the Hotel Monaco. Their decor feels elegant yet whimsical, with surprises and smiles at every turn. There's great local art, loaner bikes, free afternoon snacks, and a friendly staff who helped with every detail. Can't wait to go back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Visited Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR for my sisters bachelorette party. There where only four of us so we opted for two queen beds and a sofa bed. Staff was friendly upon arrival, however, as soon as we entered our room we noticed a strong odder of dog urine. We informed the front desk and they sent someone up with aerosol to spray in the room. The […] smell persisted through the night. It also took 4 hours and 5 requests to get additional robes and coffee cups sent to us as well as a toothbrush. The next morning the front desk graciously moved us to a "hypoallergenic" floor and a new room with the same accommodations. If you are not bringing your pet I would recommend requesting to be on the non-pet floor. I would say this hotel was very modern in décor, but nothing really set it apart from other hotels. "Quirky place with a fun staff, perfect for pets"
The hotel is... "interestingly" decorated, like many Kimpton properties. The staff, however, are top notch professionals. With a liberal pet policy, the hotel was swarming with dogs, which we quite enjoyed. The location is pretty central and convenient. The restaurant was decent and only moderately overpriced for breakfast, as hotel restaurants usually […] are. There are a zillion food trucks nearby for a quick lunch or dinner option. My only complaint was the shower - water pressure was mediocre and I didn't love the shower head (no massage setting). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A fabulous hotel!"
This was our first time staying at the Hotel Monaco Portland. We loved the decor; the staff was friendly and helpful; the room had great character, decor-wise, was spotless and quiet. We knew it was a good hotel when we wanted to hang out in the lounge/lobby area - it was so inviting and comfy. The water with infused grapefruit and herbs, the morning […] coffee/tea, and the evening wine reception were very nice touches.
