When you think Westin and pay $200 a night, you think this will be awesome. Unfortunately that was not my experience. The guy that checked me in maybe looked at me twice and didn't even crack a smile. In my room was a memo stating that the hotel was under going some remodels and I hope it does because there was mold in my shower, the thermostat fan […] was crazy noisy, the whole blow dryer was caked with like 5 yrs of hair spray and sticky, so no drying my hair those 2 days. The wall paper was peeling from the wall in a few spots and here's the kicker my king size bed had its pillow top unzipped and gone to be replaced with a queen sized pad of some sorts, it wasn't very comfortable. I made sure to take photos also. Their gym is in serious need of some TLC Oh and my view was of the jail, but it was in walking distance of seaport which is great to walk around. "Don't waste your money here"
This was our first time at the Westin in San Diego (downtown) and I have to say that I am very disappointed in our entire experience there. I have stayed at other locations before and have always had a pleasant stay but sadly I cannot say the same for this location. Starting with the valet service where customer service must not exist in their world […] since the older looking man who came up to our cab to help us was rude and seemed to be in a rush. Parking is $32/night which I was willing to pay because I was expecting great service. Hint: You can find street parking or park across the hotel for $20/night. Front desk people were okay, girl up front looked like she hated her job. We get to our room, and I thought it was spacious for a bed suite. However, the dresser was damaged and would not stay in so the drawer was hanging out. Called front desk to tell them and to request for extra glasses and they said they would send someone up in a few minutes. We waited about 20 minutes, and our glasses were delivered. Waited another 10 minutes and still no service person to look at the broken drawer. We were hungry so we left and walked a couple blocks down for dinner. Pros: Food from room service was excellent Cons: Customer Service, Small Pool, Parking Fees, Customer Service has got to be the most important thing in my book, so if you are a consumer like myself, look elsewhere. I really enjoyed the Westin. The only piece of somewhat negative feedback is the Valet policy. They told me I did not have a choice but to valet my vehicle and that the charge was $32 per day. The benefit here was that it was with "in/out privileges". If I valet my car I hope they would return it to me, and if I have no choice, why do they make me pay? Valet parking is a joke, especially since the hotel uses the public parking area adjacent to the hotel. The room while quaint needed updating, our toilet had a "patched" hole in the basin that looked like someone kicked it. Checkin/out was a breeze. The staff was very friendly and polite. They make you feel like royalty at this hotel. The staff was very tentative and even recognized I had children and gave me a room close to the elevator. In addition the heater was broken and they sent a maintence man right away to fix it. Reserved a room a 10 days before arrival. Needed room about 1.5 hours early to attend an important event at convention center. Hotel would not accommodate me with the 1.5 early check in. "Good Location, Weird Rooms"
I am not sure if the lower floors are like this, but the 20th floor and above seems to have the weirdest shaped rooms. Our room was a triangle, which is an odd shape to put anything in. It was humid the whole time and there is no way to open the windows so there was no way to solve the issue. (AC didn't do anything to the humidity.) Our sheets felt […] moist the whole time as a result. The bed was very comfortable but the humidity distracted me from being able to really enjoy it. (I blame the whether.) There were gross yellow stains on the wall and ceiling of our room and bathroom. There was a broken section of the wall under the window with visible particle board for some reason.. It just didn't feel like a Westin to me, not the quality I expected for the price. I have been in other Westins and the rooms were much nicer. The other problem was that despite the fact that the rooms are all smoke free now, our room smelled distinctly of cigarettes. It's like the smell is embedded in the room forever? Either that or the previous resident of the room stank strongly. We were really busy the whole time so I never complained about these things since they seemed like ridiculous nit picks but my overall impression from the room I had was that the place was just "OK". The staff was really really nice though, the parking was outrageous ($32 a night) but convenient and the location is great. "Great anniversary trip"
After having a not so good beginning of our trip to San Diego, the Westin staff made us feel at home and special. The bartenders were very kind and personal, and even the coffee stand crew made us feel like they were glad to have us there. The room and beds were fantastic, and the stay was wonderful. We very much look forward to staying there again. "Nice hotel, great staff"
We had a good stay, beds are comfy and the staff here is excellent. The rooms are pretty small and weird shaped for a premium hotel. While our stay was very good and no real complaints I would probably stay somewhere else next time mostly due to this hotel being right next to the court house and there are quite a few homeless people around, although […] none were in front of the hotel, just too close for my taste. it is really close to the train station so that is very convenient if you come in on the train, plus you can walk all over gaslamp and to petco park nothing is too far.
