Westin San Diego

The hotel is a bit older, and due for some renovations - there is a managers letter in the room stating so. The rooms are a bit dated and our corner room was small, but comfortable and very quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The room had a couple of problems with the phone and internet access, and now I see extra charges on my credit card that should not be there. I will have to phone the hotel to see what that is all about.

I am not usually the 4-star type, but this westin is 2 blocks from amtrak, where i needed to be at 7:30 am. beautiful lobby and room (complete with bathrobe and TWO shower jets for my aching neck), attentive and helpful staff. so why would i take a star off this hotel? Service was quick, unfortunately they quickly sent me up to a room that reeked of cigarette smoke, in a non-smoking hotel. Housecleaning never noticed? After a call to the front desk, I went back down and was met with a new room key and offer for free breakfast. I visited the hotel on a business trip in December - unsurprisingly, groups were holding holiday parties at the hotel. Around midnight, the remainder of one of those parties came down the hall to the room beside mine for another hour of drinks and laughs. Great, more power to them, but I needed sleep. I didn't call this down to the front desk as I didn't want to spoil their fun, so took a sleeping pill and passed out. My point is the walls are sorta thin for a nice hotel. This is a old hotel with a coat of paint - original architect tried to pack as many rooms into the space as possible, resulting in strangely-angled hallways and rooms. I wouldn't think twice about staying again. Overnight parking at $32.00 per night was a surprise and it was high I thought but we managed to find a spot accross the street in the metered parking area and since it was a Saturday night, it only cost me .50 so I treated myself to a glass of their best scotch. Very pleased

It's a Westin, the room was large and comfortable and so was the bed. It's close enough to the waterfront and gaslamp district for easy walking but there is also a trolly right behind the hotel. Like many high end chains (and unlike lesser chains) they charge extra for wifi. I ding them for that.

The Westin is one of the best hotels in the Gaslamp! Very close to everything. Great bar downstairs. The service in the cafe left a lot to be desired but that did not ruin the trip as the rest of the staff was wonderful and very attentive.

My room did not have cotton swab or tooth paste. I find it highly unaccommodating when a hotel does not provide those items. My bathroom sink was clogged. The view in my room was the hotel roof and walls. I know the front desk could have given me a better room. I find the hotel parking expensive and surrounding parking very discouraging.

Hotel needs a complete renovation. I felt like the hotel was past its prime. Disappointing that the room had plastic cups instead of glass cups. One good towel, while the other had a blood stain on it. The staff was friendly and accommodated your needs. Reasonable rate. Overall, hotel was good but needs a overhaul.

I believe since we paid for the discount rate on Expedia, we were placed in a very old room. Chair in room was dirty/old and smelled (large black spots and worn arms). There was hair in the bath tub too! Yuck. The room overlooked the pool and hot tub area so we could hear people chatting. We got in very late traveling with a 3 yr old. Would have appreciated […] Front Counter staff (at late hour) to be more helpful. He was not. After cleaning bathroom, we felt better about giving our little one a short bath before getting her down for the night. Not a fun task after a long plane ride. So the reader knows: parking at hotel is only one option, valet @ $32. After putting up a stink, Valet Mgr opened the public lot (directly across from hotel) which is same lot they use to valet cars. Walking distance to Gaslamp District, Midway Museum and ferry pier. Super friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is scheduled for internal remodeling soon and is in need of it. booked a 4 night stay on thanksgiving week with the wife and 2 kids (5 & 3) ... got a room with 2 doubles on a SPG floor and had somewhat of a bay view. was looking forward to this trip because of the 'heavenly bed' which ended up being a disappointment because we had achy backs every morning when we woke up -____- pillows on the other hand, were awesome.. […] and the heavenly shower head was amazing as well ... not sure if the beds were just already old and lumpy, but we had higher expectations.... we previously stayed at the sheraton symphony suites and we were just totally plastered to our bed, also because all the rooms were suites. we felt so claustrophobic in the rooms... kids were whining and bored... so we had to cut our trip short. paid 4 nights and ended up staying for 2 ... sigh. next time, we need a suite...and toys... and a nanny for the kids. one upside though was that employees were so nice ... they even gave us the Westin Kids Club package (had crayons, maps, coloring postcards and hats) ... kept the kids quiet .. but not for long. all in all, it was a pretty ok stay ..... biggest upset was the comfort of the bed. My only complaint about the cleanliness of the room was that there was a massive hot pink stain on the carpet right by the bed (like someone had dropped a bottle of hot pink dye). We were a little concerned that it would spread to our stuff so were really careful about keeping all our things away from this area.
