For the second time, we stayed a week or more at DGH while visiting family nearby. Our room was good, but not great. My main problem was a funky smell, which may have come from an old carpet, an air conditioner unit, or the use of a vacuum with an old filter. We were put into building 600 where they are doing massive construction. When we arrived on a Friday afternoon, they were using jackhammers, so keep that in mind. Our room faced the parking lot rather than the water features. The room was renovated, large, and clean. BUT - what's the big deal with this hotel? It's not that great, just a renovated (in […] the process mind you) older hotel that consists of six or so separate buildings connected with some strange, 60s-type water feature. The poolside dining only had one waitress when we went for drinks on Friday night. We ended up only staying for one because that's about how long it took for her to take our order, bring us our drinks, for us to finish our drinks, then waited about 20 minutes for our check. We ended up just guessing the cost and leaving cash on the table. I chose this hotel because of the deal on hotels.com that brought the over $300/night price to around $140/night, but I do not believe it is worth the discounted price. Read more

The attention to detail at this hotel is remarkable. Whether you book online or directly and call to query about your room, they make sure you are booked into a room that suits your needs. The restful ambience both in the garden surrounding the pool area and in the lagoon area even includes meditation pools, statuary and giant koi. I went to the hotel for a single night, to have a photo shoot. We stayed in the Bali - Lanai Suite. The room was very interestingly decorated, even though not really "Bali" themed. It was more like "pan asian" themed. The conditions were definitely dated, I'm think the room itself hadn't been update since the 70s, but it had a charm to it. The fireplace […] was in an awkward place, but the two flat-screen televisions were fabulous. The bathroom was immaculate with cool, spa features, and the hotel staff was very accommodating. Not to many late night delivery places near by, but it's a college town, so... The garden had a beautiful asian theme with huge koi. I stayed in this hotel because of it's location near Stanford. I found it to be comfortable and in a very convenient location near not only Stanford but also shopping and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again! The apples and chocolates in the room each day were a nice touch!

I learned to swim in their pool over 50 years ago and I have eaten countless breakfasts poolside but I have never stayed at Dinahs until this trip. The family is working on renovating the dated furnishings in the rooms but the quiet ambiance of staying in a rain forest right next to the hustle and bustle of El Camino remains. Thankfully the family has taken back the poolside restaurant and continues the tradition of the preparing the world's finest omelettes--there may not be a finer venue for breakfast on The Peninsula than this spot. The Location and the exterior of the hotel was very nice. The water around the interior of the hotel was comforting. Unfortunately the "queen" bed was more of a double and was pretty hard. The water pressure in the shower was really low, even after we had maintenence look at it.

This is a 1950s hotel disguising itself as an upscale hotel. Sure, they've tried to update the room decor a bit, just like every other establishment in the hospitality industry. However, that kind of superficial window dressing cannot mask the fact things are old and decaying. The rooms have tile floors with big area rugs, which you would think is nice […] except for the fact the tile is dirty and sticky and the rugs are probably never cleaned and rarely vacuumed. Plus, parking outside your room is all but impossible. There simply aren't enough spots. The heating and air conditioning is controlled by a unit attached to the wall next to the bed, and it runs like a Mack truck. The water is white, not clear . . . honest to God. It is disgusting beyond measure. The shower head has two settings, it either drips or pummels you. The phone is from 1985, as are the fixtures. There are no elevators between the first and second level, so you have to drag all your luggage up by hand. If you are on the first floor, you hear the constant sound of fellow guests wheeling their roller bags along the pebbly walkway outside your door. Outside, the overall theme looks like a cheap bar in the Carribean -- Tiki torches, palm trees, etc. -- but with a giant Eiffel tower-like structure lit up like a Christmas tree year round. You'd have to see it to believe it, and not in a good way. The pillows and the flat screen TV were the only things I would rate as good. Read more

Everything was great about the hotel the only thing was they had no breakfast in the morning. It's also set back far enough from El Camino that you don't hear any of the cars. The actual hotel is beautiful with plants everywhere. The lobby is also really nice and unique.

Currently there are no restaurants within walking distance due to renovations, however the staff is helpful on finding places nearby.
