"Weird smells, old, but nice staff and clean"
We booked this at the last minute because we needed to layover a night for a flight out of PDX. They have a shuttle which is nice, but seemed a little far to be called an airport hotel, (no biggie though, it was free and the driver was nice and prompt). The lobby was sorta nice and the agent was very accommodating. The outside premises seemed rather […] pleasant but inside our building, it had some weird smells to it and was really musty. Also, confusing hallways! The neighborhood seemed pretty sleezy but not outright dangerous. Nearby is a bar and gaming room (?) and a Vietnamese lounge restaurant down about 10 minutes by foot. Our bed was very uncomfortable, and the mini fridge in the room would keep buzzing kind of loud and I was only able to shut it up by giving it a light tap every hour or two into sleep. The bathroom and sink was pretty clean and updated which was a pleasant surprise. They also had a pretty big morning selection of coffees, juices, and pastries, and a little dining area. We couldn't find a spot outside except what seemed to be log chairs with a plank table...? Either way, we didn't fit and it felt like everything was gonna fall off of it. All in all, not horrible, but not a place I would recommend if they're willing to spend a little more per night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
rooms small, nice continental breakfast, laundry was filthy, desk staff not super friendly, room staff better, awkward stairways into/out of building, pool nice addition,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"perfect for our needs"
comfortable and clean - in the perfect location for our purpose. the breakfast was good but VERY busy in there, and they ran out of some stuff, but overall a very good stay - the pool was nice. we will stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for!"
Booked this during a 50% off sale. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel while attempting to look updated was in a surprising state of disrepair. Loose or poorly attached fixtures, an outside door that wouldn't lock, and all the floors smelled like public restrooms due to the Fikes air fresheners.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Loss of electricity"
I wish staff had made more effort to make us more comfortable, check in on how we were doing or make some compensation for the situation. It seemed they took the stand that the less said the better. That does not feel like hospitality.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice and small good for practical people. I didn't like the bathroom but it was alright.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Portland Airport"
I have already stayed here. Discounted room rates. Good breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"At least they refunded"
I needed WIFI for work. Their's was pathetic. "Timed out" constantly due to such low connection speed. They moved me to a different room to try to improve. No help. I called their Matrix tech support and was told that they have a severely limited network connection and that it was beyond maxed out. They were nice enough to not hassle me when I checked […] out immediately and Expedia refunded and found me another hotel. I was actually glad to have the reason to not stay there. It was pretty run down, noisy and packed. HOWEVER the rooms did smell mildly like disinfectant which while unpleasant was at least a good sign. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Cheap but close to airport"
You get what cha pay for.....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is not great. It's cheap and decently located. If I could have found a better hotel for the price I would have stayed there. The room was clean and they use this super pungent deodorizer. The room had 2 queen beds, like I booked, but they were really small. The biggest issue I had was the bathroom. You had to hold the handle down when you […] flushed, so you had to stand there the entire time. Personally, that grosses me out. The shower had a HUGE bathtub. If I was a person who enjoyed bathes it would have been great. The shower, on the other hand, was pretty sucky. It had this weird slanted wall and was made for people shorter than me, and I am not a tall woman. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"$55 for 2 phone calls"
Overall it is likely a person will stay at the HJ because it is cheap - and it is. The rooms are worn to the point it would be hard to make them clean. TVs are ancient was the shower and carpet. What got to me was a bill on my credit card for $55 using the in house phone service as I lost my cell phone and it was being sent to me. That $55 was for […] 2 phone calls totaling 8 minutes. I know those in house hotel phone systems aren't cheap but this was taking advantage of people not expecting a rip off - there was no signage warning of the usurious fees. Staff seemed pleasant. Restaurant was excellent. There were a lot of sketchy people who appeared to be living at this hotel wondering the grounds. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Affordable and clean"
Friendly staff and very affordable room made it perfect for my layover. Room was not the newest, but very well-maintained and clean, everything was shiny and spotless. Great job, house keeping & maintenance. Could use central a/c instead of wall unit but it did the job fine. Hot breakfast was nice too, waffles, bread, cereals, eggs, coffee, juice, […] tea etc. Nothing fancy but sufficient. Only issue was that bananas were too green, I tried hard but couldn't peel or eat... I would recommend this hotel and stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Noisy and dirty hotel"
Checked-in late. Hotel room was extremely noisy - walls and doors were very thin. Sticky substance on the hotel room floor. There are other hotels close by at the same price - I'd recommend staying somewhere else.Genuine Expedia guest review
"not great but could be worse"
Front desk was very helpful and friendly. The hotel was not as nice as I've seen from a Howard Johnson. Its not close to restaurants or entertainment. The one restaurant on the property is namaste buffet. Room was surprisingly clean compared to the interior hallways. I called for a shuttle from the airport and they arrived quite promptly. Overall it […] was good for the price but I would find a hotel in a more exciting area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old, but clean."
We stayed here one night for medical appointments. I would prefer something a little nicer if staying more than one night. Hotel was clean, but it's so old that the furniture moves when you walk across the floor, sort of giving the feeling that they aren't too stable. We slept well and felt that it fit our needs for the one night. Continental breakfast […] was adequate as well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good for the price"
The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel was clean but showing quite a bit of wear. Bed was ok, not great. The perfumed deodorizer in the hallways is unpleasant, but at least the room had a window that could open and the weather was nice enough to allow this. For the price is was a good value. Breakfast was available, but busy and the food choices […] were limited. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A nice airport hotel for stay and fly occasions."
I stayed at this property when I traveled to Cancun recently. This hotel was a great option for my stay and fly needs!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and comfortable"
For the price, I was somewhat apprehensive -- would this be an acceptable place to stay? I was relieved and very pleased with what I found. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable, everything was quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. What more could you want?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was an unusual room. The bathroom area was huge with a tiny toilet in the closet that you just about couldn't fit in. There is no privacy in the shower area. Shower controls were confusing. The beds were hard.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for a night's sleep"
I needed a place with a shuttle bus for 8 hours. This place did the job for a decent price. I'm not picky...Genuine Expedia guest review
"It's a HoJo"
The gentlemen at the desk were helpful and friendly and the room was great and very clean. The only downside was the balcony view of the algae-riddled pool, which I would not get into in during summer knowing what it looks like now! But it's a HoJo and it more than met our price range and guest needs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel, good rate, on the beach!"

"Picutes are deceiving"
Photos look great but, reality room are small, old and out dated. Heavy incense in the lobby and room. We had to open our window to air the room out. This hotel doesn't represent Howard Johnson's name wellGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Howard Johnson's is poorly represented here!"
In response to my comment that the room assigned to me was "quite a hike" from where I was to park, the clerk said I only needed to walk up five steps to get to where my room was. Actually it turned out that after the five stairs was a door that opened outward to the top of the small stoop, then another dozen or so steps (some safety treads were broken […] and ill fitting) to the top floor, and through a heavy steal door that slams shut! Then into the hall filled with the strong smell of pot smoke and heavy incense smell which I presumed was an attempt to cover the smell of the pot smoke coming from one of the nearby rooms (the room I was in did not smell like the hall, so because it was late and I was tired, I stayed the nigh)t. I followed the sign at the top of the stairs which stated that the ice machine was in the basement (three flights down). The ice machine wasn't working and had a sign on it that said it was broken -- back to my room to complain and inquire about a functioning ice machine - I was told it was in another building -- left to myself to locate it. Later the "out of order" sign was placed over the sign on my floor directing people to the basement for ice. Later in the evening I discovered that the mini-fridge was warm - turns out it was unplugged and the floor was wet around it. Before getting in bed I noticed that the carpet felt damp to my feet - ick. In the morning I discovered the in-room coffee/tea packet contained one sugar pkt and one cream pkt. "Clean & Quiet"
I have stayed at this property a handful of times. I have always received a clean & comfortable room and a restful night. The hotel building and room are a little worn, wifi access is slow, TVs are old and non-flatscreen variety, and breakfast is as basic as it comes. But this HoJos delivers on basics - a comfortable room and quiet night - at a consistently […] fair price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Outdated and run down"
Cheap 70s decor. Ridged beds with super thin pillows. Loud A/C unit. Sounds like it is ready for take off. A Super 8 would have been much better. Take your time when exploring options online.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice staff. Had everything that was needed."

"Ease of flight & car arrangements"
There was trouble with their key system the night we stayed and so we were unable to get a key and had to be let in by a hotel worker. They did upgrade our room and give us a good deal on arrangements for our car to be parked in their hotel lot while we were gone, so we appreciated that a lot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for everyone"
I arrived around midnight, the girl at the front desk was pleasant but that's about all that was pleasant. I went to plug in my cell phone for an alarm an none of the plugs were working. A maintenance man came up about ten minutes later to check it out and didn't know what the problem was. So I had to pack my stuff and move to another room. Oh I forgot […] to mention that non of the key cards were working, so the maintenance man had to meet you at your room to be let in. I suppose if you are a single man, you could take a risk and stay here if there were no other options but I would never stay there again. It also appeared that none of the furniture or bedding had been updated since Nixon was in the White House . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We flew into PDX & had to overnight. I chose this hotel because they had a shuttle service & were close to the airport. Our flught was late arriving @ 1:05am. When iI called the hotel they said the shuttle ended at 1AM & that we would have to take a cab. There was no mention of specific hours for the shuttle & the hotel was only 2 miles away. The shuttle […] driver was still at the hotel and had to get us extra towels. He was not the desk clerk, but a 2nd employee on staff at night. "Awesome !! In this price, it's excellent"
Stayed one night. Every thing was good. I've not tried room service though. They gave free complementary b'fast which had lot of good options. Location - Pretty close to airport (Of-course not walking) They also provide shuttle to airport on request. Parking - More than enough parking space is available. Bus stop - Its just next to bus stop. So, you […] can take bus easily if required. Staff - Staff was very friendly. Specially, one receptionist from fiji, was very friendly and co-operative. Room - Room was very clean and have everything expected. Food - Its next to a Indian restaurant, so you can have dinner/lunch there if you like/ok with Indian food. If I'll go to Portland again, I'll stay in same hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Clean & comfortable - no frills - but adequate"
Last minute booking - went smoothly - Staff very helpful. Only complaint was a 40 min wait for the shuttle. from PDX - called 3 times - 11pm - not a busy time - should have been a much shorter wait. Its 5 min away from the airport.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Dont waste your money"
I booked a room stating that I needed 2 queen beds as we ha 3 adults and one child. We received our key and went to room and was rather surprised to see the sign next to the door saying "Executive Suite". Wow! Until I opened the door. Very out dated and the beds were only double beds. Décor was from the 70's and the spa tub I swear was definetly from […] the seventies. It was clean so we stayed and all other hotels were booked anyway. The Wi-Fi was so slow I could get online but couldn't really bring anything up due to very slow uploading. Then the next day I looked at my checking account and there was a 25,00 charge. When I called to ask about it I was told it was a "deposit" and would be refunded after room was inspected. Since I had booked a room for another couple as well..I had 2 25 dollar charges...one has been refunded....one not,, altho he told me that both had been inspected and found to be fine and to "watch" for the other deposit in a day or so. I have stayed in Portland hotels before and usually pay around 80 dollars a nite and they were more updated than this 90$ room. Not only will I not stay here again..I will tell all my friends to avoid it if at all possible. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
